ZV-E10 still kills it. The iPhones are always so oversharpened, but they have improved, especially in background blur!
Not just the sharpness, they overprocess the image in software as well.
The background blur is a bit of a double edged sword as the aperture is fixed, so there are some disadvantages for landscapes, sunrises/sunsets (the sun will always just be a blob), etc.
Thankfully this is equivalent to around 24mm f/6.4 full frame or 16mm f/4.2 APS-C so it's not too bad for your average quick snap.
"iPhones are always so oversharpened"
Not with the log
@@vlcthefish Log impacts colours and contrast, not sharpness. It's better being able to reduce the contrast but it still looks over sharpened, including in this video. Look at the jacket and also stubble, hair and skin. You can even see the sharpening effect in the out of focus bricks in the background.
@@DigiDriftZone False. Multiple reviewers all stated the log format turns off the excessive sharpening in previous iPhones. Jordan Drake from PetaPixel stated this as many others.
The testing from users on Reddit Cinema subreddit saying the same. Example from today;
"aMac_UK
11 hr. ago
So I’m in the middle of testing the 15 Pro’s Log and ProRes footage at the moment and my biggest observations are that the Log mode turns off two annoying properties of the iPhone’s video recording:
Over sharpening and automatic tone mapping.
That clean image also doesn’t have any post sharpening applied, and it’s great. The ProRes is undeniably and obviously better at keeping small details so it’s not as necessary compared to shooting in h.264/5 or otherwise."
Awesome! You have the best comparisons. Straight, simple, clearly named and edited. Thank you! 🙏
I love the clear side by sides in this. All the filmmaker comparisons I've seen so far do quick cuts and grades which mask the difference rather than show it.
Yes - unfortunately a lot of people are watching these quick cut vids and overestimating how their footage will look
dude im so glad you're doing these, i trust you so much when it comes to camera! you ARE THE BEST
You know what they say - "always trust a comedian to do your camera reviews"
I deeply love my little ZV-E10; you have helped me so much! Thank you Mark for such great content!
Love your work mark! I watch all your videos…you clear all my confusions. Thanks for mentoring us.😊🙏🏻🙏🏻
I have to say this is one of the best comparisons between a camera and a phone.
And the styles that you do your videos are top notch... such a pleasure to watch.
I appreciate that!!
Thank you, Mark. As a new TH-camr who is learning about cameras and lighting, this video was incredibly helpful and informative.
As a mirrorless cam user, I could say the iPhone's camera quality is fantastic especially with its smaller sensor. I can only imagine the camera tech advancements that camera phones will have in the future that might probably close the gap between camera phones and actual cameras.
we are reaching the limit of whats possible already.
Most of what the phone is doing is ai.
First video I have seen of you and the sequence starting at 3:39 immediately gave you a new subscriber. Looking forward to browse through your catalog and to new videos.
Wow! I love this review! This made me realize how amazing the ZV E10 and what it's capable of. 🙂
This is the standard of a comparison review! Well done!
Thanks for this comparison video Mark. I love my ZV-E10
Amazing video.. cleared so many doubts ! Keep it up 👍🏻
Thanks for the great comparison! Gives some good insight on whether I should
Upgrade my iPhone. I shoot with a “Little Duggy,” on a Sigma Prime like you’ve suggested and LOVE the results. My friends are blown away with the professional results that I get.
man i love your reviews. i am slowly trying content creation, video recording etc and i got close to 0 information. the way you deliver information with these videos are so clear and professional, i appreciate it a lot.
Glad I could help!
Great comparison! Recently got the ZV E-10 with Sigma 16mm and this is very helpful.
Thank you for doing this. This is a very good comparison as I own both! Very informative. :)
An outstanding video Mark. Considered, natural, but the material was so clearly presented (and useful!)
Many thanks!
Thnk you very much Mark, great analysis man.
Hello,
I recently came across your channel while I was searching for the best camera for TH-cam. After watching your first video, I became a big fan of your content.
I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.
Best regards,
Jan
Thank you Mark, you just made it clear for me to choose the ZV-E10 :-)
I'm so proud of the ZV-E10. I bought it a few months ago, and this channel convinced me to do so. Thank you very much!
How it is in terms of performance without add on lens
Fantastic comparison! With all the iPhone 15 hype I'm surprised (and as a ZVE10 owner, honestly relieved 😅) how much better the Sony looks. I'm also really enjoying learning/using a "real" camera in having more control over the image. Looks like I certainly need to upgrade from the kit lens though!
Yes - get that Sigma 16 or the Sony 15 for studio videos!!
I use the sigma 30 all the time! Wicked sharp en great image, also how much you see is very good, I like it for interviews and such. The standard lens, you should throw it away, it’s terrible
@@fabian3265 I’ll check it out thanks! 🤙🏻
@@fabian3265 Same here. My Sigma 30mm has never left my Sony A5100 since 2017, and until now it's still generating pictures that are way better than any Apple of Android flagship.
Same!!
Awesome! Exactly the comparison tht im lookin forrrr
Brilliant comparison Mark…thanks 👍
Thanks so much for this video really helpful!!!
another time you answer questions I didn't even know I had 😆thanks for this video, will pass upgrading my iPhone for another year I guess.
Tony Northrup tested this, resolution wise, the 15 Pro resolves around the same detail as an 8-10 megapixel camera (i.e. less then the 12 megapixel A7S III once you remove the artificial sharpening). As for the lenses, you are getting 13mm f/10, 24mm f/6.3 and 77mm f/24 (120mm f/21 on the Max) fixed aperture equivalents to full frame.
This is somewhat academic but I found it quite fascinating. Despite the sensors and technologies seeming like they couldn't be more different on paper, in practice, you can apply the same crop factor calculations. You get an image uncannily similar to taking an image on an A7RV at 35mm F/21 and then cropping 70% of the image out to match what the iPhone's 15 Pro Max tele lens does. 70% because the crop factor here is roughly 3.54x.
Similarly if you take an image on the wide lens on the iPhone at iso450, it should equal 24mm f/6.4 at ISO3200 on FF - ISO formula is ISO*(CropFactor*2) - and wow, it does! - same exposure, same field of view, same depth of field, similar detail (if you resize the FF image down to around 8 megapixels and upsample to match the same image size), though iPhone has more aggressive noise reduction out of the box.
So there's no inherit advantage in DOF, or resolution or low light performance or anything else. But knowing this, if I do want a lot of DOF I set my 24mm on the ZV-E1 to around f/6 (or f/4 on E10) and 12 megapixels still resolves more detail than 48 on the iPhone :)
Thanks for the math!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Also forgot to say, fantastic video as always! - really appreciate your take and tests, it's very helpful :)
The video is extremely interesting as useful as always, although I've missed a zoom comparison as well. I have the E10 + Sigma 18-50 (around 1000$), it's just an example of versatility among other possible combinations.
same here but I've buyed used (3 mont old) at 750 euros! lucky me🤩
I really love your intonation and speech! English is not my native language and I listen to you with high attention to your technics
And video is great as always! Thank you
Great review, thank you!
Great and well done 🙌🏼
Great comparison. As someone with a ZV-e10 and about to buy the new it would be great to hear how you combine footage from both in a project (e.g. what settings on each to make it easier to match)
Great question!
I have the same setup
Perfect video quality. No banding or artifacts. So I'm getting the ZV-E10! That was very helpful.
Great comparison. ❤
Excellent comparison! I'm actually going to pick up the iPhone 15 Pro in a week or two and will be building a matching LUT for it to make life a lot easier :) The Blackmagic Camera app is the key to maximising quality, that's for sure! And as a bonus it supports viewing LUTs as well. Thanks as always! Cheers from Osaka, Japan :)
Great fun! Brilliant! Insightful and just fun. Keep it up! x
Great video! I'd say the iPhone definitely looks great especially with the color graded pro res log shots. I'd definitely rather the zv e10 overall for content though. Not only does the overall shot look more natural but I definitely wouldn't be looking forward to uploading, editing and exporting an average 30 min long 250 gb file for TH-cam
The exact video I needed
Very well, explained and well-edited! I would really like to see how things go with DOF adapter on the iPhone 15 pro. The Beastgrip one, in particular.
ProRes log totally tempers the sharpening. Love it.
Excellent review - and congratulations on your delivery! Very engaging. I thought that in the earlier side-by-side comparisons that the highlights on your cheeks were more acceptable on the iPhone. Theyy seemed a little too bright on the Sony. However, that might just have been a difference in the grade...
thank u for the useful video👍❤😊
❤&respect from GB
Awesome comparison that i didnt know i needed
😀
Ur videos..., can't stop watching them till end 💖
This is the correct way to view them 😀
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis to fully understand... Yeah 😅
Very helpful and well done thanks
Just found your channel and you do so many of the comparisons I've been wondering about and you explain things in a great way. Thanks for the help !
Glad you like them!
I love my zv-e10, added a 24-70mm gmii before upgrading to a A7iv. But the iphone can hold its own in many situations (not low light lol). The main plus for iphone is the stabilzation and uploading for social media. So both are great just got to knownl your use cases
I like the calibration or adjustments you made to the Blackmagic camera app. You are going to share how you made the adjustments?I loved it
thank you!great video!
Hey I'm back, but I just wanted to say thank you for all the effort you put into these videos. I can definitely see you've improved a lot in the way you make videos and the detail you put into each video. Like around a year back, some of your videos had small things that were not supposed to be there (like "Sony 24 GM f/1.4" text still being on when you were vlogging with the ZV-E10 and Sigma 16mm), but now I don't find anything like that!! Great job; keep up the great work.
One thing I do want to say, is if you could put a little fade at the end of the music, like when you finish the comparison footage, and then put a little fade so it transitions a little more smoothly to your talking head shot. Don't know if this is making any sense, and it's totally up to you to decide if you wanna do it!
thanks for the feedback - will do
I was just thinking of this thank you
I just recorded 4 study sessions voor church with the E10. Super camera! ❤️
Muy buen video .Esperaba está comparativa.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Good one! Thanks Mark.
Definitely prefer all ZV footage over the iPhone footage. Thanks for comparing them, saves me a purchase 😀
So awesome this video. Let's do a comparison with FX30!! iPhone looks great only during daylight.
Brilliant review.
Great video. Would have loved to see your studio recording with Apples own app. I've seen quite a lot of Blackmagic stuff and it appears to me not to fully take advantages of the new LOG-format.
I like the way you share
First of all great comparison, love your videos!
I don't understand why so many comments mention "hype" in a negative way where clearly you can see by this comparison how far the smartphone cameras have come, especially iPhones in the video department. So small lenses and sensors and I think they still generate very crips and in most scenarios natural videos. And being nervous about it beating a larger camera to justify your purchase of a dedicated camera is not necessary lol.
I think phones and especially iPhone are a great opportunity for people who want to shoot nice videos and still have all the features a smartphone offers.
I have a Fuji's camera which shoots an excellent quality video, super crisp and natural, but I mainly still use iPhone 13 PM for everyday use because it has many advantages in terms of image stabilization and ergonomics.
Such a strong vid I had to sub
This is a great video. I am thinking of getting Sony ZV-E10 for my podcast. The iPhone makes you look more pink.
Another awesome video.
Great comparison, waited for it! By the way, how do you record your voice throughout the video? After you showed mic test, I was wondering where your best-quality mic was placed
Hey Slippin' Mark! that's another great video! ZV-E10 is not just a camera. Its a Legend..
Thank you for this Mark.
One question. What picture profile did you use when recording this footage?
Very nice video thx!
I wasn't a big fan of how you recorded/graded the iPhone footage (I know I can get a better result out of it, especially for the studio), but overall you have done an amazing job comparing these cameras! Very good video, thanks!
I’m starting my web content creation and I was looking for some camera’s and definitely I think the zv-e10 still better even with the cheep Lents, the color is sensibile more natural then iPhone! And with sigma is more and more better! Tnk for you’re review
I use my Nikon Z30 as a studio camera, iPhone for quick video footage, and GoPro for longer video footage. Oh, the Z30 is a great little camera for still photography.
ZV-E10 of course, thank you, you made me appreciate my Sony more :)
I’ll stick to my ZV-E10 but for vlogging the iPhone is very acceptable. Thank you for this test, no frills and right to the point! Thank you.
Interesting, I suspect some will prefer the extra-sharp iPhone footage, but for me the ZV-E10 footage is the way I want my videos to look.
soon they'll call us dinosaurs for not exclusively using phones - lol
You and Mark both are great. You both make great informative videos
finally somebody testing different scenario.
Nice video! I am just in the process of deciding whether I should buy the new Iphone or invest in this camera. Which is the next best lens you would recommend, if I can't afford this Sigma lens right now?
Great video!
Most waited video for me thanks buddy
Thanks for the cool video Liam Neeson!
Great job on the video Mark! Thanks for making it.
Thanks - this one was tricky!!
Thanks for the great video's, Mark! Any recommendations on a lens to cover the APS-C 50mm to 200mm space? (I've already got the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 at the moment!)
Check out this tamron 70-300 amzn.to/46auzJ9
What lens would you recommend for just vlogging Landscaping Jobs. A lot would be on tripod but I would also like to get close up and do slow motion and all that good stuff. Would it just be standard ? I want to get a camera for jobs I will be doing because all the space and memory it will require. Thanks !
Mark, what do you think about 120mm lens in iPhone 15 pro max? Will you be able to demonstrate it?
thank you!
I’m looking for a camera that does well with photos/videos of the moon, night sky and northern lights. I’ve looked at a lot of options including the lumix g7 and cannon m50 but also heard about this one. Do you recommend of those ones or something else?
At the beginning part of the video and the background blur on the iohone looks good. However, still prefer the zve10 with the nice lens
What's your recommendation for recording video playing guitar or streaming video?
Thanks for the comparison Mark!!! Btw, any news about the ZV-E10 mk2?
They usually wait 4 year to update a product - it's only been 2 for the ZV-E10 - so I doubt it's coming anytime soon - just a guess
Great comparison! For a make up artist who finds it more practical to take videos on iPhone. Yet I struggle with adjusting white balance while shooting. Skin becomes yellow or burnt orange in day light.
Any solution to that prior to filming?
thank you that was very informative helpful and fun to watch
I feel like they are 2 very good tools to have, for different things, but they can do a decent job of what the other can do in those specific odd situations.
I personally carry both if I can
indeed!!
Nice video. Next week im gonna get zv-e10 for 600$ kit lens as my first camera. Probably will buy some lens in the future. Could you recommend me any budget friendly for shooting mainly Gym and cooking content? I wanna get that nice bokeh as well. Thanks!
Please don’t stop making content about ZV-E10 Mark gorgeous
never!!
Hello Marcos, let me congratulate you for the great comparison video. Without a doubt the best I have seen so far on these devices. I would be very grateful (if possible) if you could do a tutorial on how to configure the ZV-E10 camera for photography and video (I would like it to be similar to your video). Also, could you explain to me here how you configure the "Cine2" mode? I recently bought the camera and since I am not a photographer, nor have I studied an audiovisual career or anything about it, I am learning only from videos on TH-cam to take good photos of some products and record content. Thank you again for your video, congratulations
Great video! I’ve wanted to buy a camera for years and have watched hundreds of videos about cameras on TH-cam. However, on Instagram, people are like, “OMG, the iPhone 15 Pro is even better than full-frame! There is no need to cameras anymore …” I didn’t want to believe this. This video showed us how good the little ZVE10 is, even though it's a crop sensor :) Thank you so much; you saved us from falling for these marketing shows.
Yeah - the iPhone is a great piece of tech - but it's not replacing real cameras anytime soon for pros. There are a lot of people talking about how the phone is amazing, but very few of them will actually film their channel with it.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I totally agree.
I think the iPhone pro max 15 is much convenient compared to ezv10 that you would need to spend couple times before go ahead. I'm concerned about the iPhone upgrading or deteriorating their phone every time they release a new iPhone; that's why I'm considering ZVE10.
I'd be interested to see how the iPhone compares with a the black magic app, apple log and a T Series Moment lens?
Absolutely awesome video. I too have the same camera and have ordered a 15pro 256gb, and i was wondering how this very expensive piece of communication stacks up against our modest doughy. Not bad for a phone, though doughy is better. Can you do a vdo on step by step way to do vdo in pro res mode with colour grading, that video would be equally helpful especially to a decades old android user whose using the iPhone as his main work phone for the first time. Cheers and regards.
Hi Help me, i am having zve10 + sigma 30mm1.4 what is the best settings for my insta reels. I am editing only through my phone with VN editor advice me
Would LOVE to see a comparison between the pro and the zv-1 mark II since that feels like what a lot of folks will be deciding between!
tis true
