    6:11 It is really crazy how much better the dynamic range is on the iPhone when both devices are in auto. Just look at the trees and the atmospheric detail between those houses in the background, how it is visible on the iPhone and completely washed out / overexposed on the ZV-E10.

    • @Gtech-ny5rd
      @Gtech-ny5rd 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's a smartphone for you. Most cameras require editing, because most smartphones have crazy AI that does the work for you. It's exactly why people don't have to edit after taking a video or picture with a smartphone. It's as expected because the target consumer is someone who generally isn't into cameras, editing, or film to begin with lmao

    • @fifthgear93
      @fifthgear93 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Gtech-ny5rd Sure but what percentage of ZV-E10 or similar low budget camera users actually shoot in log format in order to pull dynamic range and exposure? I would guess the vast majority of budget camera users do not, and use those cameras in a non-professional setting, but rather as a point and shoot. For vlogging and hobby purposes, not professional workloads.

    • @Gtech-ny5rd
      @Gtech-ny5rd 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@fifthgear93 you'd be surprised how many low budget filmmakers actually use low budget cameras to create films and content. Not every filmmaker/content creator can afford a camera that is capable of extensive color grading.
      Another point worth noting is that while you're right that a lot of people use low budget cameras for "point and shoot", that still furthers my point. While yes, these cameras are also targeted for less professional people, you have to keep in mind that smartphone users use smartphones mainly quick edits and uploads, all of which are social media centric. Cheaper cameras CAN do these things, true, but it's solely not only for casual use. It's also used for film shoots, events, and more, hence why the option is generally still there for editing (and even if it wasn't, cheap cameras have more professional settings that could be tweaked more than what a smartphone can offer)

    Good informative video. 👍 I watched through all the ZV1 / mk2 /F /e10 videos, as I've been looking at replacing the Iphone for shooting some videos. I shoot in a workshop, so there's low light situations, confined spaces where the iphone is fully zoomed out, and a lot of sparks from welding etc. How would one of the sony cameras handle that? It is important to me that I can zoom out almost as much as the Iphone, but I also need to use uv filters as disposable lens protection, as welding sparks embed themself into the lens quite easily. Also filming inside wheelhouses and under the car is low light and wide angle. So this leaves me with a question of which ones of the sony cameras I should pick? e10 for replaceable lenses? (I also do some urban photography, and film some motorsport) zv1-f for small size and disposable filters? is there a way to protect the lens on a mk2?

    The image out of the ZV-E10 trounces anything with a smaller sensor, even my Pocket 3 (I have a recent video comparing the two). I do wish Sony would provide a firmware update for the ZV-E10 with at least better/newer color profiles. It always seems to put a green tint on skin tones. I doubt that will happen though. Damn dude, the ZV-E10 is gorgeous for that price. I'd love to get my hands on it! I want to start streaming (as well as make pre-recorded/edited videos) off an old iPhone but man, it's a pain to be having to do that through Software that can randomly start to lag by a couple seconds and then go back to normal. I had it setup through El Gato EPOC CAM and it looks great but at times, not so much. Not even wired and wired still produces random lag spikes it seems. I'd love to be able to just shoot from a normal Camera like this.

    The iPhone 15 Pro can be supercharged if you buy the Beastgrip Pro and their DLSR lens mount adapter that allows you to use full frame EF mount lenses on your phone. When used with an iPhone 15 or Galaxy S23 and recording in log/raw you have a pretty serious little cinema camera.

    • @munthohar8963

      why spend more money on a smaller camera sensor? with lowlight capabilities that are lacking, the dept of field is less capable😂

    • @03chrisv
      @03chrisv 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @munthohar8963 The depth of field isn't less capable because of smaller sensor, it's because of the tiny lens used on smartphones. You can easily achieve excellent bokeh blur/depth of field with a small sensor so long as you use the appropriate lens (something that MFT photographers know about) which is why using the Beastgrip Pro and full frame lens adapter will give you excellent results. Just search for Beastgrip DOF MK3 adapter, you'll see for yourself.
      Also, smartphones are getting better and better in low light performance every year as some of them use big 1 inch sensors or use double stacked sensors effectively doubling low light performance. For example a Galaxy S23 Ultra has better low light performance than my Canon T5i with an APS-C sensor using a f2.8 lens. A lot of people don't want to admit that phones are catching up to "real cameras", but the truth is in some ways smartphones have already surpassed them. A $600 smartphone has a lot more processing power than a $4,000 camera and they're also several years ahead in the implementation of AI enhancements and corrections.
      Dedicated cameras will always have their place but a modern smartphone with a good lens kit is good enough for most amateur cinematographers, content creators, and youtubers. If you already spent $1200 on a high end phone, might as well repurpose it to be a pretty cool cinema rig and save money in the process. Unless you're a professional that shoots for high end clients you really don't need an expensive dedicated camera.

    Your way of testing is way off. That add on lens is not showing the phone justice. Just get a ND (filmic pro or BMC) and log. That’s the only way to compare. The colors are all off too. This isn’t a good video to show the potential of the phone. I know this is aimed for beginners yet the iPhone can punch way above the example work shown on the video.

    I have been using my e10 for nearly a year and here is what I have to say about it lets start from the worst thing.
    1. Stabilization - It's awful, micro jitters and distorting bending image with the slightest of movement. I run everything through catalyst browse and that means I need to use 4k and I have a wide angle lens 16mm sigma 1.4. However. This will make you a better camera person the limitations will make you more creative.
    2. Battery - It doesn't last very long which can limit how often you have your camera on and you will miss out on a lot of shots. However I believe all dedicated cameras can suffer from this.
    3. Yeah that's it. This camera is great and you will grow with it, you will not grow with the iphone so much. You can remedy the two major negatives somewhat with a lens with stabilization or by adding a cage to the e10 and putting 1kg of weight on it as a ballast. Also you could run an external battery on that cage and now your shooting all day, get a huge battery and that can become your ballast.

    • @thefilmalliance
      @thefilmalliance  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know what you mean. I recently released that The ZV-E10 is made more for hand-held (still) filming or headshots. Not walking with it. What do you think?

    • @clarkdef
      @clarkdef หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@thefilmalliance I think it is actually the best for handheld because it's so terrible! Maybe because you have to get creative to get around it, which means you will make a more meaningful video. You could make a balanced cinema rig for it showing that you understand balance and damping. You cannot afford to develop bad habits when using it. And you have to consider post editing more like if you are going to have enough in your frame after you run it through Catalyst browse etc. And then I guess if you get something better you would of earnt it and appreciate it more.

  • @wikitheonlyone

    I can't help myself. In absolute all compares, the iPhone makes a waaaay better video. It is sharper, lighter, much more details due to the higher dynamic range, the video is absolute smooth (where the Sony is shaky like a earthquake), I don't know why the heck I should use a Sony or a DSLR Camera with obsolete technology. Bokeh effect? Yeah, there are lenses for it and it's just a question of composition settings :) even without LiDAR and Portrait/Cinema mode.
    And also I don't agree that the iPhone limits your creativity - HELLOOOO there are limitless Apps with limitless creative ways to shoot videos. Show me a DSLR where you can install Apps or extend the firmware with new functions. My Nikon DSLR has 10 creative modes, that's it, and the highlight is tilt-shift (wow, thats really sad). So my both DSLRs are catching dust for years.
