I've noticed the majority of Spider-Man poses have points of tension, where parts of his body are in a sort of wound-up configuration. The most famous examples are his trademark crouching and when yanking a webline taut while swinging.
In my opinion drawing Spider-Man and not over exaggerating his heroic body structure and drawing him in perspective with bizarre camera angles is both difficult and unique.
CATMAN! Hahaha You got me with that one! You are a genius, man. This video is incredible, never seen your videos before but I am 100% subscribed and am actually excited about drawing again. Thank you!
loving your work man ^^ helped me a lot figure out my artstyle i wanted to ask if you can ever do one on french illustrators like Gustave Dore and such? had that thought ever since William Blake video
Thank you! Oh, you're the one that watched the William Blake video.. lol I hadn't heard of Gustave Dore but his art looks impressive. I have plans for videos on non comic book artists. Stay tuned..
I’d say for me McFarland Larsen and Bagley are probably I would say in my opinion in the top three Spider-Man artists. Like McFarlane Perfected the way, like how Spidey moves and swings. And I like the way how Larsen used his sense of lights and highlights with his older work looking a lot better than his newer stuff.. when it came to Bagley that guy really nailed it on Spidey and he also illustrated the original run on Ultimate Spider-Man in the 2000s which to me is like the best interpretation of the character. Plus I’ve been been trying to draw a character who has some black on his costume and I gotta say drawing the black on a costume is pretty tricky You got any tips or advice I could use?
I'm always a bit surprised when people list Bagley in their top. What a task he had to fill the Todd and Erik void. I stopped buying Spiderman when the whole parents coming back / clone thing happened.. He deserved better stories. For the black parts it sometimes works to have a line go from the non balck into the black and change into a negative. A bit tricky to explain with words, but a long hatch could start as black but then turn into "white" when it goes across the black part. I'll show it in an upcoming video, I don't think I mentioned that yet, thanks!
@@retrosuperheroart2202 and thanks for the video in fact , the examples you displayed on how artists did Spider-Man’s black costumes was very simplified and still very well done
My favorite Spider-Man artist is Todd McFarlane, and you can recreate his style completely amazing! I loved it. (Could you make a video about Mark Bagley's art style in Ultimate Spider-Man too, when peter was more skinny)
Thank you! Yup I read those McFarlane issues to shreds. You're right I didn't do skinny Spider-Man yet. I've got a list of videos in the works but I will double back to Spidey eventually. Thanks for the tip!
Can you look at the art of Bernie Rietzen (I’m not sure if I’m spelling correctly) he was the artist on Batman The Cult and his style has that perfect merge of gritty and super heroic that you want on Batman
