Interesting fact: I wrote to Huw Merriman, my local MP and as it happens a Tory. I asked 1) How many national and local election results had been swung as a result of electoral fraud?, 2) What % of all votes cast are thought to be fraudulent? and c) Can he be 100% sure the ID requirements are equal to all voting groups?
He replied within a day (credit where due and all that), ignored point three, said he'd have to ask colleagues about points 1&2 and would get back to me. He hasn't.
He did manage to vote for these reforms however, seemingly happy to change decades old voting requirements without having any facts to hand.

And increased salary in compensation for having been exposed to improper opinions. Police will be called in to investigate, with intention to correct public attitudes towards those in authority. Arrests are anticipated across the town and surrounding area. • @vivienclogger
    @vivienclogger ปีที่แล้ว +33

I work in a place where we occasionally have to check photo ID, which usually takes the form of a driving licence. The really odd thing is that when young people get their licence for the first time, it's often taken from a passport photo - which may be from several years ago. As a result, the photo on the licence may be that of a 13 year old child. I guarantee that this election will be full of reports of young folks being astonished/outraged and refused the chance to vote because they no longer look like their 13 year old self. Oh, and the addresses are occasionally out of date as well - which will be another issue that people won't get around to updating until it is too late. I'm just glad that I'm not a polling election clerk. Their job is suddenly going to become a lot more confrontational.

    • @endintiers

    Let's look at this:
All members of the Europaen Union have some form of national identity card, which can also be used instead of a passport inside the European Economic Area. Only the UK never had this, while they were a member of the EU. Labour wanted to introduce an identity card, but this was scrapped by the Tory gouverment.
Now after, leaving the EU, having so much more national sovereignty, the Tory gouverment introduces now an indentity card through voting rights, as a back door?
    That's really taking back control...

Priceless Matt - thanks. I think that if you have a tory party membership card, that''ll do nicely at the polling station, plus the card would also get you an nice juicy very profitable PPE contract when the pandemic re-appears in October. They abolished automatic voter registration (which impacts renters, students, and the young - who coincidentally tend to vote Labour), and now this (which mostly impacts renters, the poor, and the young - who coincidentally tend to vote Labour). Also, let's not forget the boundary redrawing that would see almost 50 parliamentary seats (which weirdly seem to be mostly Labour ones) dissappear.
I'm so glad we are being led by such a trustworthy government that has such a strong belief in democracy. I am sure there are absolutely no alternative motives behind all of these changes.

Don’t forget that people who use postal votes need to refresh ID every 3 years.

Um I'm now worried that I will need photo id to vote? I don't have a passport and I don't drive. I wasn't even allowed to take a maths exam because my passport had expired. I pointed out that it was still my photo and when I started to raise my voice in a middle aged lady way they backed down. 😐 But now I am really worried that I am meant to have photo ID! I can't even get to a post office with a form, as I say, I don't drive! 😱

I think you can use expired ID to vote (bizarrely!) but if you would like a voter ID you can get that here: www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate

Stopped voting decades ago when I realised what a total scam it is. Spent my time productively working for a social revolution ever since. Works out about the same in my wasted time but at least I feel like I am doing something constructive for the common good.
I have ID but would refuse to show it on principal 😂

I have to admit to voting in two different constituencies on the same day against Thatcher. My friend's vote would have been wasted. Made no difference.

HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE....................Here in the Netherlands, carrying an ID card is mandatory. As is domecile registration. Of course you have to show your ID when you vote. I think this is a similar to most if not all of Europe. In the UK there is no mandatory carrying of ID of domecile registration. So this means that no-one knows who's in the country or where they are. It is extimated that, by studying supermarket sales and sewage processing that there are around 10m more people in the UK than is officially stated. YOU CANNOT RUN A COUNTRY LIKE THAT. When I tell Dutch friends they are speechless. "How can you run the country right then?" they say. Ah Ha, striaght to the heart of the matter. YOU CAN'T !!! UNTIL THE UK FIXES THIS, AND DROPS FPTP in favour of the more representative PR, the UK will continue to be the basket case that it is.

Interestingly enough, although you need to produce your birth certificate in order to obtain a passport or a bus pass, the certificates are not good enough to prove who you are. Surely, handing in the named poll card sent by the local authority which advises when and where a person on the register of electors may attend would have been the better system. It saves having to have a haircut, a perm, a tattoo disguise, a beard trim and/or to remember those gigantic out of date spectacles when you present yourself to the presiding officer.
