  • Anderson Paak is so good in this tiny desk concert. Playing the songs Beauty and Essex, On Sight, Gidget, and Eternal Light. Guys, this was super fun. I am so glad that in my old age I am now open to different music from when I grew up. I can appreciate it so much more. These guys are so good and let me tell you, Anderson Paak is what makes everything. His smile, his personality, and his voice. There are musicians in the world and then there are musical talent front men and women. The one person that brings it all together and makes us want more. That is Anderson Paak.

Any drummer/singer is already super impressive, be it Don Henley, Phil Collins etc.
But to do it with hip-hop syncopation is just...wow. That level of rhythm is staggering.

The Tiny Desk series took place in the lobby of NPR, National Public Radio. There is an employee library and staff members noticed the acoustics were perfect when a star came to do an interview and just started playing her guitar in the lobby. There are many of these mini concerts that have gone down as legendary but none of them are more popular than Anderson’s.

Oh man, I’m right there with you! He’s so damn good. I’m 67, and Ive been listening to this for a while. I introduced my daughter and her 20 year old daughter to Anderson. They play his music all the time now. There is so much jazz in this music, and then rhythm and blues and some rock in stuff I’ve heard him do. His live concerts are great! As a matter of fact, he got a Grammy for best Rhythm and Blues album, I think in 2020. Someone will know.

Your reactions made me happy :) As others have already mentioned, the genre is pretty much Neo Soul, which is like a blend of Soul/R&B, Hip Hop and Jazz (to varying degrees). To me, the queen of Neo Soul is Erykah Badu, you should check her out! :) Btw, you might wanna correct the track names in the description? ("Come Down", "Heart Don't Stand A Chance", "Put Me Thru" and "Suede") ;)

Great reaction as always man! Would love the tiny desk concerts to be available on Spotify. Anderson is so good, he is thinking of song lyrics , maintaining his vocals, listening to his band, matching their rhythm, drumming, and carefully playing low. All at the same freaking time. Hope you check out some more music from twenty one pilots soon, I recommend their songs The Hype or Ode to Sleep

Anderson Paak reminds me of the great Curtis Mayfield. Anderson's music is a mixture of two types of music, rap and contemporary jazz. Sometimes his music is more of one of these two types, at other times it's more of the other of these two types of music.

I listen to kpop and alternative since like i'm 14 and also like knew few other pop artist like bruno mars, troye sivan, adele, one direction etc. What you said is true. I start to open up to more genres when I was 18... at the age when I'm finally meeting more people outside from just my neighborhood & school, going through some ups & downs during my college days, through people that I have meet during my colleges days i start to seek more music that outside my comfort. Anderson's music mainly covers RnB/neosoul, and of course he raps, so it's a little bit of fusion but it's all genres based around the blues :) A similar artist who actually writes for many modern RnB/hip hop artists is Thundercat. He is a bassist/singer who has even collaborated with Kenny Loggins, and also Michael McDonald, who sang for Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers!! His song "Them Changes" samples funk classic I'd Rather Be With You by Bootsy Collins and I'll drop a live link here: th-cam.com/video/Sa0upTDZDYQ/w-d-xo.html

It's funk man funk it's only the best genre Rock fusion so kinda Rock kinda jazz which ended up being called funk most say James b was the first but🤔 you know chuck berry fats domino ray Charles it's just a groovy ass rock jazz sound and if you aren't listening to funk oh God you're missing out because everyone who dives in well.... you don't swim out you just become a funk head lol but it's so much fun and so much talent and variety to the genre I personally am a massive parliament funkadelic/ Stevie wonder fan but every funk head has their favs these dudes though ....They definitely catch a good groove and keep it going I love how much they all feel it and jam out with the listener but that's part of funk /jazz fusion. The funk jazz world is alive and well and survived all the way from funkadelic and Marvin Curtis Mayfield which is who he sorta reminds me personally of maybe Curtis and definitely bill withers omg yeah but anyway you should check out their grub hub set lord it's a longer set full band and sound and wow incredible they just keep their sounds so tight together so neat and it makes for a fantastic listening experience.....no wonder silk sonic is so good
