Anderson is just so effortlessly cool. I'm so happy that Silk Sonic introduced me to him, because every time I watch him, I have a constant stank face.
Also, one of my favorite musical phrases is "Once is an error, twice is jazz." haha

The thing I love about Paak is that his drumming is *tight* while singing those lines. He’s as talented and distinctive as a drummer as he is a singer. So, so, so hard to do, then at the same time? Like Don Henley, Dave Grohl, Chris Cornell, all stepped away from the kit and picked up a guitar instead to sing lead.

Wonderful! I am so glad you are doing a reaction of a Tiny Desk series artist. AP is so smooth. I find the rabbit holes I fall down usually begin with Tiny Desk, PMJ, or Daryl's House performances, that lead to discovering artists for the first time. So glad I found your channel, it is a delight to watch your reactions.

Fun Fact: One of Anderson's first gigs was to be Haley Reinhart's touring drummer, he was known as "Breezy Lovejoy" then. Unfortunately, due to a major shake up in management at Interscope records, over 30 acts were dropped during the shuffle. Haley was one of them, so plans for the tour to support Haley's debut album was unfortunately scrapped.

The lead singer, Johnny Hawkins, used to be the drummer until they realized that he has some killer pipes. It’s a trip watching you react, cause of your musicianship & skill set, you pick up on so much & the music radar is like stimulated goin bonkers! 😅 You might be the 1st I heard mention Andy’s subtle (& intentional) pronunciations in spots, & ‘rhythmic integrity’, so important. Lots of folks comment on his distinct tone quality, but that’s kind of obvious & he wouldn’t be the 1st. Even Jermaine Jackson had a similar tone when he was like 13. One point though, the word he was twisting a bit was ‘all’, not ‘on’. I’ve heard it quite a bit from Andy on the Silk Sonic records like, Smokin Out the Window, where he says, ‘One thing’s for ‘sho’ (2 X), instead of sure; also Love’s Train: ‘….a when it ring-a-lang, it only mean one Thang’. 😆 That type of pronunciation could be heard in o.g. Soul r&b singers like, Bobby Womack, Teddy Pendergrass, & Mavis Staples to name a few. I know it’s very much associated with southern dialect. The ‘ugh’ he does in the space, classic James Brown, which is where Michael Jackson also got that from. That example comes in handy when trying to convey the importance of felling the space, to make it funky. Ain’t no space? Won’t be no funk. That said, I’m sure Anderson beat boxes, being an amazing drummer & such a charismatic rapper as well. Great reaction, even though you cut before Andy’s comment after that song…’tiny desk, big heart’. 😁👍

Elizabeth, you do a great job. Thank you. You’ve already reviewed Corey Taylor but I have an idea that could be refreshing (not that your channel needs refreshing but hear me out), different and fun. Corey (who I Believe is underrated as a hard rock/metal singer) is the lead singer of two very different bands, Slipknot and Stone Sour. I think it would be interesting to get your reaction of his different singing (and styles) in both bands and share your thoughts with us! I would suggest Nero Forte from Slipknot and Song #3 from Stone Sour. Thanks Elizabeth. Cheers.

If we're talking about singers who also drum, Hail the Sun's vocalist does this too! I got to see them live and it was incredible. Recommend "Relax/Divide" by them!!

Sohyang has a stack of amazing you have to experience yet, fwiw. Not sure you even got into some of the head voice magic yet. Long amazing phrasing that is just different than others. Home and Breathe from masked singer are two of them. Dream is amazing too. It's just ridiculous actually what she has out there. I'm sure the temptation to stop after doing a few is there but trust me... it will make you smile and probably cry. Over and over, like who else does that on this many performances. Misty from begin again korea is so stunning too. There's just so many.

Another great tiny desk is The Roots w/ Bilal. Bilal's voice is so good.

I’d love to see your reaction to Empty Head by Screaming Females. They aren’t very well known but Marissa has such a wild and unique singing style and I think you’d love to analyze it.

Another Band / Song that I think you would enjoy is Emerson, Lake and Palmer's ballad called Lucky Man
Since you also like Tool...you might want to delve a little bit into Primus as well. Wynona's Big Brown Beaver, My Name is Mud, Shake hands with Beef, Tommy The Cat

Loved the video, I always enjoy your perspective! A good song to react to would be either Not Today or Slave the Prey by Sevendust. Can’t wait for the next episode!
