I worked with Dan for about three months in a woodworking shop in Pensacola called CDC Woodworking . He was a very kind and gentle guy who'd buy lunch or bring in bar-b-que leftovers almost everyday . We worked by ourselves in a separate building , him a fabricator and me a spray finisher . One day I went outside to sneak a smoke break and seen a P.P.D. cruiser in our gated facility just chilling in the cars A/C . When I went back inside , I mentioned to him , " Hey , I'm not sure what you've been doing , but there's a P.P.D. tahoe out there checking out our building " . He turned pale for a moment and replied , he's probably filling out paperwork . Within a week I came in and was informed by a supervisor of his arrest . Even though we got along great , you never can tell exactly whom you're working with .

Dan smoked cigs but not often, about six a day . Marlboro red short . I'd get on him about smoking in the building cause I didn't want to get blamed for it . The unmarked detectives were in fact following him for a couple weeks .He was driving his Jeep after work and flipped out a butt and they retrieved it and got the DNA . His brother had been in trouble and had to give a DNA sample and all are ran here in Fla . at least . His brother came up very close to a match and that's how Dan got involved. I believe it was the first familial match ever in Florida .

I'm always curious as to whats going through these perpetrators minds while they sit in that seat, decades later, thinking maybe the police are just grasping at straws.
@RB-ej8wk I'm glad they do though. So, so many innocent people have been vindicated and released because of DNA evidence and detectives going through old cases. My favorite are these though, the perpetrators *always* forget to ask why they're there. I've only dealt with a detective once, and he said innocent people normally tell him to pound sand and don't come in "to talk"
His body language is so interesting. I would love to hear an analysis because he is protective, thinking, hiding his mouth, protecting his bollocks etc etc
He looks exactly like someone who would commit this type of crime, and I bet my life that there are way more skeletons in his closet. If you pause on his mugshot, you can see it. I've been analyzing the facial features of a specific type of criminals (the ones who commit the most heinous acts), through countless mugshots, and what I've noticed is that they all have the same depraved look (their eyebrows are angled downwards towards one another, their eyes are close to each other, and their noses and mouths are structured like they're smelling a foul odor, with their lips usually curving in the opposite direction of a smile, almost like a permanent frown). There's a biological reason behind their facial appearances, but it would take me 5 pages to explain it. I'm not saying we should "judge a book by its cover", but if I saw this person, without knowing about any of his crimes, I would still be cautious and observant.
@@victoriousjoy9338 Very interesting response. This "look" is actually developed through committing wicked acts, on a regular basis. I say this, based on my personal (but objective) observation and research on countless criminals, along with my knowledge of the biological changes that our bodies experience (including the cells responsible for shaping and reshaping our facial features), throughout our lives. I'm sorry about your experience, I hope you're doing better.
I've seen other comments on group mugshots (ie Jan 6 mugshots) that point out fetal alcohol syndrome facial characteristics. Very interesting observation.
Here's the thing, though... I don't really remember what I was doing on NYE THIS PAST JANUARY! There ARE a few NYEs I remember, but none of which could I tell you what year they were. Sometimes I feel like these questions are absurd...
Aside from the Reid technique, and placing the suspect in a corner, having a detective dressed in a black suit and with a high and tight military haircut adds to breaking down any guilty barriers.
Up here in Canada we mostly pocket our smoked cig butts. There's a huge culture around "snipes" here. It's where you find a fresh enough looking cig with some left to smoke and you light her up. They smoke pretty good and hey, free tobacco.. I haven't done it in years tho.

When I was put on probation my PO did the DNA swab and said that they do that so that if in the future there's a crime committed and I throw down a cigarette butt or anything with my DNA it would lead them straight to me. I smoked cigarettes at the time and was so afraid of leaving a butt ANYWHERE even though I wasn't committing crimes lol
Your biggest scare shouldn't be a cig butt, instead "touch dna" which is left everywhere that you go. Any item you touch or brush up against has your dna on it. Most the time cops don't print a firearm, but instead they will swab it for dna. I'm also a felon and I was riding in a car with 3 other guys. My friend had a gun which he put in the glove box everyone else touched the gun besides me, they swabed the gun for dna and all 3 of them were arrested since we were all felons. They were all charged with possession of a firearm by a felon since no one admitted to it the dna came back and everyone got prison time. I was glad af I didn't put my hands on it.

I think he finally cracked because it's been so much time **AND** the calm demeanor of the interrogators gave him the false sense of a light sentence (or that everything was "ok")... plus he had all the weight on his shoulders finally lifted after finally admitting it, but he's still toast.
Here is what your thought process should be: Police bring you in and start questioning you about a person- there are only 2 paths you can go down: 1- you are the perp and they have you there because evidence led them to you, so say nothing and demand a lawyer. 2- you are innocent and have no idea what they are talking about so you are in over your head, so remain silent and demand a lawyer. Either way, say nothing. Demand a lawyer.
Her son is 100% correct about him being a coward for committing suicide and not standing trial and answering for what he did. But there's some good in it as well, like the fact that there's NO QUESTION about his guilt. I was born in 1985, and her son was 18 months old at the time, so we are close in age. I cant image not having my mother all these years. And now having a son of my own, it breaks my heart to even imagine myself not being here for him. Honestly if I were to be diagnosed with some terminal illness and told I was going to die in 6 months, its not even my own life being cut short that I would be devastated over. I would be devastated for my son, because I know the pain he will have to endure when Im gone. It would destroy him. Not because Im some fantastic human being - because Im his mom, and he means the world to me, and I mean the world to him. In a way its almost better that her son was so little, because he didnt have to grasp the reality of his mom's death.
That lying piece of garbage knew exactly what happened that night and knew exactly what prompted him to commit such a horrific act of violence towards that young woman. He couldn't admit it even after he confessed because he was, as her son said, a coward. God only knows what else he did over the last 35 years.
It’s remarkable to me that these people get caught decades later and the tools we have today can get evidence from that long ago. These people probably think they’re never going to get caught. It’s unfortunate that it’s too little too late and who knows what other crimes they could have committed in between.
If he just asked for a lawyer they wouldn’t have been able to get him. They didn’t even have him until the second he changed his story and confessed. It would have been impossible to prove that just because he had drunken sexual relations with a girl 35 years ago on News Years Eve that he murdered her. Guy got what he deserved in the end. It’s just fascinating to see how good detectives are at their work.
It's so crazy how a guilty person reasons. How can anyone remember what happened on a specific day, 35 years ago unless it was a memorable day?! The normal answer would be "how the heck should I know?!!" Also answering questions FOR AN HOUR, without asking why you are there is also ridiculous. I can't wait for an hour without complaining for any reason
People really think they are smarter than they are. Especially the criminal mind. They take on that risk when they do what they do, and sometimes they are lucky and never get caught.

Very interesting observation. That is the look that my ex developed after years of living a secret double life.
@@victoriousjoy9338 Very interesting response. This "look" is actually developed through committing wicked acts, on a regular basis.
