    Excuse me but how did the last guy not get life? Just because she didn't die didn't mean that the intent wasn't very clearly there. As far as I'm concerned, attempted murder should result in the same charges if they had succeeded.

It blew him off of the top of the tank and after he landed he crawled over a mile with 3rd degree burns on half of his body. Waste of government expenditures keeping someone behind bars beyond 20 years. I doubt he was released without being thoroughly assessed repeatedly over multiple years to determine the risk the public may face with him in the community. @@gSWG3R There have been SO many people who were, not only given light sentences to begin with, but returned to continue to commit even more horrific crimes . I’m curious if you sincerely believe that such criminals are carefully assessed and thoroughly monitored during and after incarceration ? I hate it when people who disagree with other commenters sling ugly replies at them … So my reply to yours is well-meaning and genuine . Trying to keep this short ! But the system in the U.S. is so broken, it’s shocking - if you are actually paying attention . One of the main reasons being that they have privatized ‘prison’ to the point that just about anyone with a modicum of training or background can enter into and hugely profit from subcontracting in the business of jailing their fellow man … . Personally , I find that super scary. There’s little or no oversight, in ANY department . From feeding inmates to monitoring the mental health of them during or after their sentence. Sam Shelton was released 3 years early in April 2024, having served only 17 years of his sentence. He was granted the earliest release possible. This man strangled her with a belt so tight the belt broke. She had to relearn how to eat and drink after having her neck broken. He went line dancing after she was abandoned in the woods. When they found her 30 hours later it was 2 am and raining. What an outrageous misjustice. The problem with "you're lying if you don't keep eye contact" is only a half truth, anyhow. It all depends on the situation. In the first case, her avoidance of eye contact was also motivated by the fact she knew she was done for. So she knew there was no hope despite her refusing to admit the truth.
      HOWEVER, in a lot of cases, when the person is actively trying to fool you and they think/hope they have a chance, they will make MORE eye contact. Psychologically, it apparently has to do with them watching your face and reaction to make sure you believe whatever BS they're saying.
      TL:DR body language isn't cut and dry.

      For every “tell” in an interrogation, theres also context. These “tells” arent special on their own. Interrogators cant actually inexplicably know you are or are not lying, thats why they gather information outside the interrogation room and ask the suspect tons of questions. Theyre building a case, one answer at a time.

    • @TheRabbitsnest
      @TheRabbitsnest 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      A skilled interviewer will baseline your behaviour first: if you are not making eye contact on low stakes questions, that's your baseline. If you change your behaviour on high stakes questions, that's what they use. So someone who doesn't make eye contact suddenly going out of their way to make eye contact is a tell. In the first case, the woman was making eye contact in the beginning with police, then suddenly avoided it. And for the record, it's not normal to constantly make eye contact with someone. Try it on some random person and watch their reaction to it.

    Yeeaaaa... Am I the only one who doesn't get the sentencing difference between 1st degree murder and ATTEMPTED murder? I mean, as far as that guy knew the girl was DEAD, right? So in HIS mind he was already a murderer. He knew what he was doing and knew what he did.
    Then he finds out, "omg she's alive", and simply because of the fact that the victim SURVIVED the murderer gets a reduced sentence?! WHY???
    What he did was STILL a heinous, violent crime! 20 years isn't enough for someone for INTENTIONALLY tried to murder someone. And just because they suck at murder doesn't mean "oh, let's give them a break."
    I know the law is the law, and you have to charge people accordingly under the law. BUT.. there needs to be SOME type of loophole for stuff like this. Like, if you intentionally TRY to kill someone and legit think they're DEAD, then you should be charged with murder in the 1st or 2nd degree even IF you find out later that they survived. Their survival should mean nothing for you other than the fact that IF they can talk then they'll blame you. Other than that, as far as your murdering ass is still concerned you still killed someone and are going to be tried for it.
