Never in a million years did I think I’d be watching a video on this channel about a girl I knew. Jill Walker, Emma’s mom, was one of my elementary school teachers growing up, and her daughter and I were the same age. They lived just down the street from us. I remember Emma being so incredibly sweet to everyone she spent time with, even if we had only met briefly a few times. When the news came out about her death everyone was devastated. She was such a light to the entire community. Those boys are heroes. Emma, I still remember you sweet girl ❤️❤️❤️
Just because you weren’t best friends doesn’t mean an incident like this doesn’t effect you! I’m so sorry… Just knowing something like this can happen in your town to people you see on a regular basis is enough to mess you up. I hope you’re taking care of yourself!
@Zed-ti9uj A bad friend is being an unrelenting yes man to anything he does. People who willingly strive to validate and agree with everything you do arent good or healthy people to have close. Making sure their friend faced the consequences of his actions, especially for one as serious as murder, is the sign of friends who value accountability. Those are people I'd want around me, people who wont blindly side with their friend just because they said so in a case as serious as this
@Zed-ti9uj There's a big difference in supporting a friend who's going through a hard point in life, to actively assisting him in disposing of evidence and agreeing to lie in court incase they got caught. Last one isnt being a good friend, it's being a good accomplice
Constant eye contact is a sign of dishonesty. Looking away is a sign of dishonesty. Damn I really hope I’m not ever falsely accused of something. I’m going to be over analyzing everything and seem guilty lol.
I was, and still am, a pretty shy person. As a kid, I found making eye contact extremely difficult, so my mom drilled it into me that it’s impolite to not look people in the eye when conversing with them. She also said that I couldn’t get a job and function in the real world if I refused to use eye contact. So I practiced using eye contact because I feared the repercussions were going to be as drastic as my mom told me they would be. As a result, I never break eye contact in a conversation and notice immediately when the other person does. I have, indeed, found an excellent job and function just fine in the real world. However, my mom definitely made it much more drastic to a kid that couldn’t have been more than nine or ten years old at the time, but I don’t begrudge her too much. She was raised in a very strict family, violated many of the societal rules of her generation, then had me and my twin in her 30’s. While she never went to the extremes her parents went when raising her and her three sisters, she did want her own twin daughters to have good moral character. If, in those days, making and maintaining eye contact was a sign of respect, then her girls would do it. Edit (because I accidentally hit “send” before I finished): In hindsight, I don’t think my mom ever meant that getting a job and functioning in society was defined by one’s ability to maintain eye contact in a given conversation. I think she meant it as a gateway to adulthood. Maintaining eye contact does show engagement. It helps people who work in retail/customer service, some of the first jobs teens and adults get. You can’t perform well in entry level jobs if you can’t converse with your customers on eye level. If you can’t perform well in entry level jobs, then you’re certainly not going to perform well in higher positions. It makes me wonder what the science was about eye contact back in previous generations. As interrogation videos show, eye contact can be a red flag. Was it considered one by investigators back in the day? If so, why was there a higher emphasis on it by people like my mom, grandparents, and teachers? So much to think about! Since so many people have seen videos like EWU’s where they break down the interrogations down to the minutest details, I wonder how many people look at me and my unbreakable eye contact as a sign of deception…?
What makes me *so mad* is how he wanted Emma for himself so bad that he literally ended her life so she could be with no one else, yet he claims to have cheated on her before. This is the stuff that infuriates me. You want to claim someone as your property, then show them no respect as your partner. Just narcissism and evil in his heart. edit: if you want to see some incels in action, just read these comments
Ugh, her mom's panicked call to 911 was rough to hear. Poor lady having to find her child like that, that must be one of the worst human experiences there is. I hope she finds happiness and healing.
There's no healing from that I suspect since I'm not a mother. But I do have a wonderful loving mother and to think of having a child at any age being murdered their heart is shattered and part of them died with that child. Even when a child dies of natural causes, most mothers will never be the same again.
we hear a lot of murder and people dying but most people don't give a shit, but man, it was rough to hear what that mother said, it's really difficult just to hear, I can't even imagine what she was going through
I don't know why, but when the mom said "her tongue is hanging out her mouth" i felt shivers down my spine, I mean, imagine trying to wake up your daughter and she doesn't respond to anything you do and when you try to lift her head her jaw just drops her tongue hangs and her eyes are lifeless, truly terrifying.
Yes I feel worse for her mother than anyone else involved. It must be indescribable to go wake your 16 year old up for school and find her dead. And it sounds like they actually did everything right. As soon as he started showing red flags they forbid them from seeing each other and even tried taking her phone so she couldn't talk to him but in the end it was all for nothing because the little psychopathic baby couldn't stand being dumped.
This is my absolute WORST nightmare. Her mother’s call to 911 has me bawling rn. I still check to make sure my 12 year old is breathing every night bc you just never know what could happen😢 this is just soul crushing. I can’t imagine the pain her family is enduring no matter how long ago this happened. My heart is broken for them. 💔
I was already suspicious as soon as the narrator was talking about how "picture perfect" their relationship seemed I am honestly not shocked. I knew the dude must have a lot of issues behind the scenes.
@@paulsmith4118definitely possible not saying she deserved what happened but too often abusive relationships are painted as one sided where one partner is doin all the abusing but often their is a abuse/toxic behavior from both parties

Fock that.... human beings throughout history dealt with much worse as teens or younger..... Your mentality supports fragility.... fock that my good sir.
I like the stories where friends uncover the truth. Putting morals and their own friendship to the victim above loyalty to the criminal. I’m so glad these teen boys cared enough to instantly go to the police for Emma and to protect anyone else that Riley might have hurt.
once someone has commited murder it becomes much easier to do it again, they weren't just doing it to be mature they were smart to stop this killer before it became worse.
My ex shot someone in the head and talked the police into thinking it was a suicide. When i tell you shocking is an understatement. Especially since he never let his guns leave his house except for when someone died the 1 time it did leave his house. Sooooo yeah
i know most people today are naive and have no clue what happens in this world Family usually murders their own majority of the time victims know their killers!!! @@kukukaka968 That right there is so true...it seems the Justice system barely punishes people for Huge crimes, while people who commit smaller crimes such as drug related, will get almost as many years or even more than someone who murdered someone else. Recently found out an old HS friend was arrested for attempting to shoot his landlord. Weird that he did that because wtf but tbh I'm not surprised lmao.
Those kids are so lucky. As said, he reached a point of no return and nothing to lose. Sat in a car, holding a gun, next to two people who betrayed him. It's remarkable they are both fine.
I think they picked the exact right time. If they let him get out of the car with it they risk losing their only evidence. Inside the car he isn’t likely to resist and he also had already mentioned the gun, bullets and magazine being separated.
This wasn't a trained criminal or thug gangster, just a random dude with a gun. His life has never been on the line and he's had to fight his way out. His fight or flight instincts where not trained by real life scenarios or intense training. In every opportunity at every corner, he was going to freeze up no matter what

"I don't have any enemies, but I was kidnapped 4 days ago by two guys in a van. They didn't ask for ransom, they just dumped me at my ex-gf's house." - -- I empathize, happens all the time...
In a sense, it is easier. They are still figuring out what relationships are and how they work, and in their first couple relationship many non-abusive teens themselves do things that could be perceived as abusive or creepy (e.g. stalking your crush from school with no malicious intent), before either realizing that its wrong, or happening to be on a receiving end of similarly ignorantly innocent behaviour, and deciding that "huh, i don't want to treat others like that". That's why genuinely abusive relationships between teenagers are so difficult to pin down - its hard to tell genuine mistakes / learning experiences from actual malicious abuse.
if my partner died, i’d be hysterical trying to talk about their death or set up a timeline.. it just blows my mind that these killers don’t realize how unnerving their nonchalant behavior is
@@ATF_official that’s retard logic, some people don’t cry bc it’s part of the way they grieve. Has nothing to do with “it will happen eventually” she was 16.

100% They was actually really good at what they did? They woulda had me fooled. Maybe the should consider a career in law enforcement...Hero's all the way 😚👌🏻🇬🇧
One thing I've realised after watching so many of these is that basically almost everything we do in an interrogation room is seen as suspicious and red flags one way or another lol. There are genuinely nervous people who would show so many of these red flags just because they are nervous or get anxious or afraid etc. Basically no matter what you do you are going to look suspicious. Eye contact, body fidgeting, staying still, picking fingers, touching nose, the list is endless 😅
Exactly what I’ve always thought watching these videos. If you are being interrogated in connection to a murder investigation I think you’d be extremely nervous regardless of if your guilty or not.
What you have to take into account is that there’s an *environmental baseline* for everyone. A person who’s naturally nervous/anxious whatever, will be that way throughout the interaction because it’s their baseline. What you want to focus on are “hotspots” which will be *deviations from the baseline behavior* - either an *increase* in behavior or a *decrease* in behavior. A person who’s naturally fidgety and anxious, in response to certain questions, may actually either *stop fidgeting,* or show *even more fidgeting and then go back to their normal baseline.* This is how you know when you’re on the right path of questions - you use an hourglass method: you start off very wide, cast a broad net, and ask simple non-intrusive questions, like their simple background info to just gain a feel how they act during routine talking, then you start narrowing down things, and when you hit hotspots, you know those are things, items, places, times, etc you need to focus on. You can widen back out and change the subject, then hit a hotspot area again later and circle back with another question that relates to the subject and see if you get another deviation in behavior to confirm it. The behaviors themselves aren’t indicative, it’s the *deviation from their normal baseline behavior* that makes it an indicator.
@@natsumi9331 It's one of your RIGHTS. They can't say in court " he asked for a lawyer B4 he talked to the investigators therefore he's GUILTY ". THEY CANT USE YOUR RIGHTS AGAINST YOU!
Oh, I didn't realize that police needed this confirmation to establish sufficient probable cause. I was wondering why they got in the car with the killer and the gun, thinking it was unnecessary to put themselves in danger there. That's very brave indeed! But also very risky by the police. What If he had snapped and exacted revenge on the boys when he realized they gave him away?
@@LRM12o8Someone else had mentioned he had already disassembled it to make it harder to find but yeah def would’ve been very scary being one of his friends in the car with him
@@LRM12o8 It's why he asked to hold it. He wanted to take it away from Rylee. Once he confirmed having it away from Rylee, he gave the signal "Whoa, this is a real gun". He was likely instructed to keep possession of the gun until Rylee stepped out of the vehicle, that's when the officers tells one of the passengers to move his hands away. Once the cop sees he asks him again and "you understand?". I am honestly impressed by his friends ability to bullsh17 Rylee and just go along with his stupid plan. Some good guys.
@SubvertTheState the narrator made it sound like Rylee had the gun and might use it when the cops showed up. You're saying that's not how it happened? I was really displeased with the cops rushing in as soon as Rylee had the gun. I thought that was very foolish and lacked concern for the safety of the other boys. I thought they put the boys in extreme danger by doing this, but if they waited until one of the other boys had it that makes much more sense.
@@SubvertTheState Good point. When I heard this I thought that they were merely confirming the presence of the real gun, instead of a decoy, because Riley might have brought a toy gun just to test his friends' loyalty. But when you say that was also probably the sign that he had somehow disposssessed Riley of his gun I immediately accepted it. That must have been it! Although I still think they were trying to confirm to the police that the actual gun was there.
When the mother described finding her daughter with her tongue out of her mouth was the saddest thing I can ever remember hearing. RIP to those still living and have to carry this grief forever.
And omg- the terror in her voice hit me hard. And her poor brother crying in the background... I don't know what it's like to be a mother, but I know what it's like to be a sister, and I can't imagine. He's also a teenage boy, so if he's sobbing, you know it's bad.
@@michaeld4137t 100% does take courage. You clearly have never been through an issue with police involving victims or a serious crime. Within coming forward, they opened themselves up to being investigated, they opened themselves up to having to depositions, possibly go to trial to testify. All that 100% does take courage. It takes a lot of bravery to come forward against your friend and give info on them to police to get them arrested, based on your own words and actions. I’m absolutely shocked at the ineptitude of the police. Instead of intervening at numerous incriminating but safe times, they let the situation become extremely dangerous, and then idiotically put the innocent teens directly in the line of fire when they surrounded the car with the person they knew was armed. These cops should literally be charged with reckless endangerment. Absolutely stunningly inept police work.

As someone who was stalked by an abusive ex for over a decade, I just would like to say - that when one of these people is suicidal, beware, they are homicidal too.
Yep. My ex kept sending letters and threatened to take his life if I didn't show up on a certain day. I didn't show obviously and what do you know? Another letter came. Narcs don't take their own lives usually
Suicide is the last redoubt of a man/woman without hope. When you have no hope, you stop looking at the world through the lens of "what do I have to lose?" and start evaluating things through the lens of "what wrongs can I right in the time I have left?" For some people, the wrongs they wish to right are friends or family not receiving as much as they are owed. This is the cause for the common behaviour of suicidal people to give away prized possessions to close friends or family. It's actually a very important warning sign that someone has given up on life and is preparing/planning to end their own life. For others, especially those that have suffered injustice (or what they believe to be injustice) they will fixate not on ensuring the people they love are 'taken care of' prior to their demise, but instead on people who have wronged them getting what they deserve. When someone has committed to ending their own life, they are at their most dangerous. The only thing (apart from personal ethical codes) that keeps people from striking out against their enemies is fear of consequences. If you're already committed to ending your own life, there are no consequences left for you to fear. You're already going to do to yourself far worse than anyone else could even threaten to do. This is why a lot of suicides express feelings of 'freedom' right before they act. They feel truly free, from all consequence, probably for the first time in a long time. Woe betide crossing their path if you've wronged them (or they believe you've wronged them.)
They probably already thought of him as odd since they knew he was prone to making things up and lying. A normal person doesn’t do that. I don’t think they had to think twice before turning him in.

I have never heard of a time where being salty, stalking and harassing your ex has made them fall in love with you again, it always pushes them away faster to the point where they are literally fleeing your presence. Just imagining anything bad happening to my girlfriend makes me tear up, if I were in a circumstance where something bad ever did happen and the police were interrogating me, I wouldn’t be able to keep my composure for days and weeks. The way Riley was so calm during the interrogation is such an obvious sign that he’s not feeling any emotions of loss, sorrow and horror because he had already known all the facts. Absolute monster
The first second i saw that so called "boyfriend" in that interrogation room, i knew he was the killer, he acts like he is buying a car or maybe trading for something, absolute 0 emotions. Imagine losing everything, a someone you love, it's such a gut wrenching thought that i can not even comprehend the sheer pressure from it. If he actually didnt killed her and cared for her this dude would be like a fuckin terminator, prepped to make his own investigation and sacrifice his life just to kill the son of a bitch who did it. Meanwhile there is no emotion or sorrow of any kind, what he cares about most is getting a hot pocket.... Well he got a "pocket" now, i hope it's cold and he will rot for the rest of his miserable days.
Actually, that is not true at all. Many people (myself included) handle grief without any visible or audible tells, outside of sudden and extreme outbursts when I am behind closed doors. If I were innocent and in his position, I would have been 100% detached from emotion and thinking about the situation in much the same way as he is. "I bet I am a suspect because I am her boyfriend. I need to use my head right now and not say anything stupid that makes me look guilty." Turns out, that makes you look guilty, but it's not something I would be able to turn off and suddenly start being emotional for show. I just can't feel difficult emotions in front of others.
She had also broken up with him at the time. It's very common that people vilify their ex in order to cope with them not wanting you anymore. It was recent too, so the hate would be excessive. You can' compare your functioning relationship to a recently ended one.
I've heard a lotta 911 calls, but that one hurt, not only the mom's panic but if you listen closely around 1:42 after she says "she's 16" in such a heartbreaking way, you can hear a man crying loudly, the father, and that cry sounds absolutely devastated. I am so truly sorry for these parents. While I can never relate fully and personally, I have lost a loved one who took their life with a gun and was the first to find her and had to call 911. I could not imagine if it was my child, and worse to slowly learn it was a murder and worse still it sounds like the parents already had an idea of it being a murder and who it was. I am so sorry they went through that. You never heal from loss and trauma like that, time and help can make it easier to manage but it will always be a traumatic experience that effects you lifelong and I wish that on nobody.
I know how you feel and I'm too sorry you've had to find someone like that. When my grandmother aunt my grandfather passed we all in the house kind of found them at about the same moment my grandmother had died suddenly in the little hallway connectt the some bedrooms in my parent's house. And my grandfather passed away in hisuddenly as well. It is never easy to lose someone let alone find them and see them. And then watching them take their body weight is so much harder because now you can't even just see them now they're just gone and after that if you see them you'll see them in a casket. My heart goes out to anyone losing loved ones or who has lost loved one I'm so sorry
My sister was murdered and that’s one of the things that stick in my mind so much, seeing my dad and my brother break, but then to hear my mum cry herself to sleep every night, my mum eventually took her own life, he killed everyone of us, we will never recover, so many heartbreaking scenes stay with you, it’s exhausting

When the narrator said "Cleary Emma's death hasn't effected the suspects appetite" as the suspect commences to chow down fast food after eating hot pockets I was literally thinking the same thing 😂
Good thing you said “literally”. I’d hate for anyone to think you were speaking rhetorically. Or ironically. Or hyperbolically. Thanks for making that distinction.
For him to go to the side of the house where he knew exactly where Emma laid her head at night and shot the gun is horrific. He wanted her dead. The way he was explaining the different places where she could be shot, but still scream for help was disturbing. He didn't deserve that precious girl. He was an overbearing jock and when he didn't get his way, he took her life. Thank you to the 2 young men for being stand up men and doing what you did. Your parent's raised you right.
Based on it being just 2 shots I don't think he did, he probably wanted to scare her or hit once(remember how he goes on about bring shot once wouldnt kill u which is stupid but its what he thinks). He wanted to probably manipulate her into having him protect her from the "mystery" man. It was never gonna work but this sociopath isn't exactly logical. He was probably going to actually murder her at some point i just don't think he wanted to that moment necessarily. Either way it's unfortunate but it's good he's gone for life.
I bet everyone that was familiar with the victim and the murderer knew right away that this guy was responsible, especially the detectives when he started telling that ridiculous kidnapping story.
Yup, most of those nonverbal cues seem like hindsight overanalyzing that anyone could do if they were nervous. Once he started making up that ridiculous kidnapping story, though. That was a dead giveaway that something was up.

Everytime something very weird happened in my life, the first thing I do is to talk with my friends to tell them some different event other than the ordinary life... like a car accident, a fight, a robbery, or a kidnap ... At first, before you laid out who he really is, I wanted Riley to be innocent. But then, once his true colors were revealed, I was left feeling sick, and deeply saddened for Emma, her family and friends. I wish this world didn't have such violence in it, such hate and selfishness. It hurts to think how many kind people have lost their lives in cruel ways because the sick person in their life didn't want anyone else to have them. Just awful.
@@chaddrusso8850 I would agree that many young age gaps are red flags, because I've met numerous boys who fit that mold, but two years while in highschool isn't something I automatically jump to as a red flag because I've met dozens of fantastic, healthy couples who started dating as 11th & 9th graders or around that time frame.
Him posting/saying "that's my Emma" after news spread that she died was weird AF and shows it all, it's like he's cheering her on that she achieved death
Her poor parents...I watch these for the entertainment (and learning, I guess) value, but hearing Emma's mom and dad in tears at the beginning just rips my heart out and I feel like I'm invading their privacy somehow.
It's almost as if capitalizing off of the suffering of others is a terrible thing to do. I'm sure her parents would be so glad to hear how many people treat the murder of their daughter as entertainment.
@@bubrub5564 It seems you may have confused "entertainment" with "comedy." No one here is saying the video was funny or entertaining in that way. If anything, this video has brought attention to a tragedy and helped solidify her name in history. Obviously the creator is going to profit off of it, as they have put in a lot of work on this video. There is nothing but respect, dignity, and empathy being directed towards the victim. If there is anything morally wrong with this video, of all things, then the bar has fallen *very* low. A better word for Steve to use probably would have been "interesting." People enjoy the true crime genre for the same reason they stop and crowd around to fights in public. Often, these situations offer a lesson to be learned. It's a part of human nature to pay attention to the bad stuff happening around us. It's just interesting... it's really not that deep.
@@thebigsleepjoe If they wanted to do this purely out of respect, they would send all of their earnings to the families that were affected and drop the dramatic eccentricities. We are told over and over again that “we’re worthless” “we deserve this” “we can’t find anyone better” “no one would want us” and so on. It’s absolutely not true but you hear it so much from someone so close (cut off from anyone else) and get called all the names that cut you deep and you’re completely at their mercy
The integrity showed by his friends is the type of integrity we all should have and teach our kids. I applaud those kids for doing the right thing to give Emma justice.

Why do the detectives not immediately question Riley as to why he drove back to campus at 1am and cried in his car for 2 hours? Imagine all that Emma could have been, could have done to help other people... Riley didn't just take away a young girl's life, he made the world a worse place to live for everyone.
Yes. Kind of like the butterfly effect. She was going to be a neonatal nurse. She could have helped to save lives. Makes you wonder if babies lost their lives. this guy technically killed her and the babies she could have helped to save. Every choice you make in life has a consequence. Good or bad, to you or a stranger. So sad
Not saying this could have happen but just hypothetically imagine that the victim of this case would have become a serial killer in a nursery like this woman in Britain who was killing babies in a nursery then just maybe life could have some twisted ways to avoid certain thing. Just a theory of course but since we don't know the true nature of our reality we cannot be certain of how thing happen. I often had dreams of people getting murder and i saw that in their previous life they were also murderer's so that would be like some kind of karma, maybe i am completely wrong but who can truly say they know for sure.
His story about being kidnapped is so ridiculous, and unbelievable. Its kinda shocking that he thought that this is the plan he came up with to 'win her back '...
Right? Its demonic: 1. demon of jealousy was in him. 2. he killed Emma at 3AM - its that demonic timing. People need to choose JESUS in their heart. When you have JESUS as your LORD.. you are love and happiness that finds love and happiness. When you have devil as your lord.. you are obsession and jealousy. Obsession and jealousy leads into a depressing demonic case.

Individually those things mean nothing, to rly determine someone’s thoughts like that context matters huge

Going through an abusive relationship is extremely difficult for an adults, can’t imagine how harder it is for a teenager.
@@alextrill1746I can tell you from experience-no. It isn’t easier. In any sense.

Nah they're just fake friends.
Yep, that’s why if you are ever in an interrogation room and 100% innocent, you still ask for a lawyer.
A person who’s naturally fidgety and anxious, in response to certain questions, may actually either *stop fidgeting,* or show *even more fidgeting and then go back to their normal baseline.*
This is how you know when you’re on the right path of questions - you use an hourglass method: you start off very wide, cast a broad net, and ask simple non-intrusive questions, like their simple background info to just gain a feel how they act during routine talking, then you start narrowing down things, and when you hit hotspots, you know those are things, items, places, times, etc you need to focus on.
@@familyof1052 Isn`t it also look suspicious too? asking for a lawyer😮

"This is a real gun!!" was the code word they had arranged with the cops to verify they had SEEN the weapon, so the police could move in.

And her poor brother crying in the background... I don't know what it's like to be a mother, but I know what it's like to be a sister, and I can't imagine. He's also a teenage boy, so if he's sobbing, you know it's bad.

As someone who was stalked by an abusive ex for over a decade, I just would like to say - that when one of these people is suicidal, beware, they are homicidal too.
Basically “if I’m going down I’m taking you down with me”
If i cant have you 😢
NO 🎉 one can 😮
Yep. My ex kept sending letters and threatened to take his life if I didn't show up on a certain day. I didn't show obviously and what do you know? Another letter came. Narcs don't take their own lives usually
Suicide is the last redoubt of a man/woman without hope. When you have no hope, you stop looking at the world through the lens of "what do I have to lose?" and start evaluating things through the lens of "what wrongs can I right in the time I have left?"
For some people, the wrongs they wish to right are friends or family not receiving as much as they are owed.
Ya if their life doesn't mean anything neither does anyone else's. That's why you get the mass murder followed by suicide

When my dad die I didn't cry or express any emotion. Doesn't mean I wasn't feeling anything.
That's a valid point.
You never heal from loss and trauma like that, time and help can make it easier to manage but it will always be a traumatic experience that effects you lifelong and I wish that on nobody.
wow i never noticed that before but now i actually hear it during the whole thing

You see the left detective stop taking copious notes at that point, lol. He knew it was BS.

These channels dehumanize the victims and make a spectacle out of their murders so that they can get a quick buck. Channels such as these have created communities which romanticize these events and has desensitized people into viewing these murderers no different than movie characters.
