while upgrading the tuning machines and bridge is never a bad idea with baretta specials i think you'll find the nut is often the most likely culprit and an inexpensive mod for a barettea special i recommend a 1 and 11/16" graphtech nut

I have a tune o matic locking bridge with roller saddles by Guyker on my Epiphone SG. It is also nice for fast string change without taking off or it falling and damaging the finish of your guitar.

My recommendation if you are replacing hardware. Locking tuners, graph tech nut (works fantastic on my crazy Dean headstock) and if you don't mind splurging a little, Wilkinson locking saddles. You can buy the Wilkinson bridge with them on it, but less expensive to just buy the saddles. I know Pete Thorn loves them.

Sounds great. I also have a Kramer Baretta, finished in the purple. I do plan on getting another, in the Ruby Red you have. Would love to get the new Bumblebee Yellow but I'm not paying almost 1200 Canadian. Not happy about the price gouging from Kramer on that one, maybe they'll eventually lower it to a more sane price point.

hey jake questiion for you! i noticed you used a vintage style truss rod cover (looks badass btw) thinking of doing the same but getting the old school black and gold ones that say baretta, how do they fir / cover stay on with only the one screw? any trouble?, ive used 2 /3 screws on a epiphone les paul truss rod because it didnt line up right but never just one! thanks for your help

The angle that the strings goes through the nut could present some issues

Yeah that’s a big part of the problem the angle that the B and high e come out of the nut even with a perfectly cut nut they can bind you can wrap the B and E backwards on the tuning peg to get a straighter string pull over the nut. I’ve pretty much done everything Jake has done with mine except I have a graph tech nut a Wilkinson vintage bridge and Gotoh locking tuners and mine stays in tune better than any non locking tremolo I’ve ever played the bridge saddles and the nut are the main points as Jake said. Even with the graph tech nut I still use nut sauce and it helped a lot with the e and b binding. The trick is if you know which strings bind after a dive you can bend them after the dive bomb to get it back in tune.

I had a nightmare experience with Guyker when they first showed up on the guitar parts scene. 5 years ago?
I ordered a set of locking tuners from Guyker and the machining on them was atrocious. They looked great. It's like they spent more time on the external polishing and plating than they did on the machining and quality control. They looked beautiful.
The problem was the machining on the locking pin. They were almost impossible to turn. It was the threads. Defective machining on the locking system. One of the pins was coming out of the string hole because the hole through the string post was drilled off center. Only one machine was able to loosen up a bit with penetrating oil.
So I complained to the seller and they sent me another set. The same thing was wrong with the new set. It held up a build I was working on and I was pissed off. Now, I have PTSD from Guyker! Maybe they are getting their QC down now and had a bumpy start. I'll give them a try again with something small.
    Regards Jake, John...

Where’d you get the 5150 above the nut? I forget what you call that.
