I know you’re a Gibson fan but they haven’t built a decent guitar in a long time. 90% of the epiphones are Asian crap. Never ever have seen anyone taking apart gibsons really Chibsons” today. And honestly a boost, roll back the volume for cleans it will do it all. Something all these too many knob amps still can’t do.

This amp does what Marshall claims. Marshall builds a budget great sounding amp for people who cannot afford the over priced Dream amps. And the snobs complain. They never claimed this was a 1987X. They never claimed it was an all purpose DSL. It is just one of the best sounding amps under $1,000. And anyone who thinks a joyo or amp in a box is better sounding has never heard a cranked plexi. The solid state amps sound like shit compared to this. Is it perfection? No. But best bang for your buck amp if you’re looking for a real oldschool amp. Origin😊Love seeing honest reviews. You praise the good points and pic at the weaknesses. I hate the reviews that say “great for the price” what kind of review is that. Good job with the honest review. Like the Plexi it has to be cranked. Love it. I love modern metal but these new metal amps that is all they can do. Everyone in the amp and pedal market still chasing the plexi. I have the 20 Origin combo ( for home & small club gig use ) for me its LOUD ENOUGH on the LOW setting ! 😂 , It gets those ACDC - Zeppelin - 60-70s OVERDRIVE - CRUNCH Rock tones perfectly !

I own a few first act guitars and I use them in my gigging herd. I love it when I see people who just laughed at first acts that are now asking me if I nodded them. I own 7 and only were molded only because the pups was dying. I love cheap guitars and how they can be worked on to sound great and play like butter.

I had the combo amp, and it took me a long way! Honestly ppl like to talk crap about the spider. But honestly good starter amp, also for practice by yourself or with a band. It does have its fall backs, but it still holds a piece of my heart. And mine had those “secret settings” too. Not sure if all models had em, sure they probably did, but helped make it sounds better too. Hold tap button and turn some knob( I forget now) but it was like adding a stomp box in front of. Honestly that was better than putting the regular gain higher, and sounded way better in my opinion than the stock presets.

Those MG cab speakers have tiny magnets but they still sound great. I use my Origin 20 on it and it sounds killer

Can totally relate. You definitely habituate to it. At first it’s more shocking, understandably, and we give it value. We think it’s something we must “fix” because it’s like a siren which we associate with danger!! …so the brain attends to it more!…but sometimes you can’t fix it. Once you accept that to a large degree you can start to adapt. Now I let it soothe me, which is a trip. It’s a constant that I know will be with me 🤷‍♀️🤣 so I make it my buddy..😅 I mean… it’s better than being miserable. I went through that for a while. And yes, I can hear it over many things… even outside. I teach piano and guitar… I’m just hoping the diplacusis subsides so I can get back to my students 😭 Day 6 now and everything is a half step higher in the right ear. Thanks for sharing your story!

Finally someone who is smart,For the loot you can’t beat those Marshall origin amps, they can be had for cheap if you look around yeah there not a JCM 2203 or a Plexi but they are a decent tube head,I’m 60 years old and I have a JCM 2203 and a Marshall JCM 900 mark3 2100 ,and with the right pedals the Origin is close enough to those amps especially for a Garage or bedroom player!!!

In my opinion.. if you come across a piece of gear that makes you love playing that instrument.. then freaking play it, regardless of brand or model. Who cares what anyone else thinks. Especially, if you can get a unique tone with it.. and it sits well in the mix, then use it. In most cases, if you record a guitar track with that Spider II and then dual track it and record a bass track and drums and then vocals and all that.. I'm certain that 90% of people listening won't listen to the track and say "Oh, that sounds like a Spider II amp, therefore I don't like your song.". Only the very versed in gear people will say something like "hmm, that guitar tone sounds kinda different... what did you use?". They don't have to like it of course.. but, people tend to judge tone by what the label says as opposed to what they hear.

Did you ever bother learning about the hidden controls? Like the built-in boost that is always on unless disabled manually, or the noise gate... I believe you can also control the effects parameters if you can manage to hook this up to the old monkey software... The EQ on the spider series was completely passive as well, meaning they don't add anything and the volume cuts out if bass mids treble all at zero. So you have to do what's called "EQ by subtraction" and start with the EQ all the way up, and subtract what you don't want from the sound, since you can not dial it in the same way as non-fully passive EQ amp designs! I think this is similar to those classic Mesa Boogie amps, when they had to add the 5-band EQ bands after the pre-amp as the normal EQ knobs only controlled how much of each frequency range goes into the amp from 100% down. In all the years I have been playing guitar I have never once concerned myself with which guitar the next man is playing. That being said, the only thing wrong with Chibsons is that they have Gibson printed on the head stock. If they would drop the deceptive branding there'd be no real issue. Find a guitar you love and play it. Period.

I have the Line 6 Spider IV. It was a combo but I chopped it and mounted 1/4in input jacks and hooked it up a my 212 with Greenbacks and it sounded like a completely different amp. I love the way it sounds now. You'd never know it's a Spider IV if you hear it. The 210 stock speakers were horrid! Very harsh highs, and not much mids. I actually like it more than when I first bought it. It sounds almost just as good as my Orange and 412 cab. Nothing beats an Orange imo. Just further proof that all the voicing is in the speakers, not pickups.

It's a great amp. Most people complaining about them have never heard one in person, let alone dialed one in and played through one. I got one for a crazy deal at GC a few years ago and paid $429 or $449. Crank it through an attenuator and it crushes, excellent sleeper amps.

I never knock anyone for the gear they have, I had a shit amp when I was a kid but that’s all I could afford. This amp and 412 would have made my day back then.

😂 The head unit isn't that bad, it's the little combo amps that suck but the spider 2 head unit does sound ok. I used one for a couple practices and it was ok. But not bad !

The Origin 50 is so misunderstood. I don't think it helps that it's got way too many settings that allow you to really easily push it into spikey overly bright uncomfortable territory. If you spend a few minutes dialling it in though and adding some pedals into the mix it's super versatile. It's a mainstay on my recordings and cuts through in a live situation too. People definitely shouldn't be sleeping on them.

You could at least miced the darn thing up with a proper mic and not just go the easy way and let us hear it thru the crappy cellphone mic.

Having built dozens of amps, it sounds like it has cold solder joints.

These were cool for the fact you could own a JMP styled Marshall for really inexpensive prices. It gets ballpark, but, it’s lacking the depth of the older JMP line- which varied considerably over a range of a few years during its roughly ten year reign from plexi to aluminum panels. (Roughly 67-77) Certainly, for the attractive pricing these came out at, if you wanted a tube Marshall amp to bleed the ears and piss off the neighborhood - these were/are a great bang for buck. A lot of great 70’s rock band sounds recorded were not in a gainy amp range. If you wanted cheap gain that rocks, get a Bugera.

Bro, I have a Marshall running through a Randall 4x12 cab but, I saw a Kustom Quad 100 HD head @ my local cash America or pond shop for $99 bux & dang son does it absolutely kick asp!!! I have tried my (Marshall MG 100fx) 2 or 3x since getting the Kustom but, I can dial in all or no bass without all my setting going into some auto mode. I hate the fact that when I turn a dial, I lose my settings. I purchased a line 6 series 3 spider 150 or 175 watt 2x12 & it sounded great to. Then one day it developed a hum so I took it back & they exchanged it, No questions asked! I am more than happy with my $99. Kustom Quad 100 HD running through 4x12's 😊

Those are good cabs after you swap out the crap speakers and put some Greebacks Creambacka or some V30s in there .

Green metal channel is the best. It sounds best with decent speakers.
