  • In this video we will model a complex cabinet pull, duplicate and resize it to build a full counter, then texture, light, and animate to match marketing images. This is an unrehearsed video with a live look at the modeling, lighting, and animation process. If you are in a rush this is NOT the tutorial for you. Sit back and enjoy the process.

Just got off work from my night shift work as a critical care nurse and I just saw you post this video. I have to tell you this in case I’ve never said it, your channel makes me feel like i may have a shot at learning blender. Thanks for these detailed blender tutorials. I truly appreciate.

      Do it! Learn that blender!

you so do! I've been making stuff on my computer for years and I've always found helpful guides and resources online but starting Blender especially since 2.8, the community and the tutorial makers have just been so helpful & generous. The thing that inspires me about blender is the real time results, you could slap a backdrop and a couple of lights on the default cube and make it look amazing.
I'm not saying give up your day job if you're a critical ICU nurse but in the words of the man himself Learn that Blender!

You can't go wrong with Blender. It can be time consuming at the beginning, but the reward of seeing a single vertex or a polygon become a real thing/product/model is hard to explain. For me, it's incredibly satisfying.
I say go for it, learn Blender! There are many channels to learn Blender, but I have to say that Derek is the BEST tutor I've come across.

Love how you keep it real with the missteps and whatnot. That's the best way to learn this stuff and it makes for some good wisecracking too, which keeps it lite and fun.

    Derek, I love your work.
Your 'internal' monologue cracks me up, but its nice to hear others worrying about details and then parrying those thoughts with: THIS ISSNT GEOMETRY FRIDAY.
Personally I get bogged down in the details, but seeing the images you are able to create in your tutorials lets us all know that details are just that, and the bigger picture is where its at.
    Thank you!

I love that you left your whole process of actually figuring it out, this is so much more helpful than when it's completely pre-planned. I did get frustrated that you didn't move that one edge on the "handle" a bit more inward on the Y axis, you even mentioned that lip in the beginning of the video!

A tip I have for when you’re trying to straighten out vertices, instead of snapping your cursor and doing an axis scale to zero, you can just set your snapping from increment to vertex, then you can do a move, locked on the axis you want, then ctrl click to the vertex you wanna align to. It’s helpful to keep the snapping toggle off so it only snaps when you hold ctrl

When watching you creating that handle cutout I want to help you by introducing thinks like snapping to vertices (temporarily with holding Ctrl) and edge sliding with double G (and extending the edge slide with Alt). I was also wondering why you didn't press A when using the knife for angle constraint. But I'm still happy 😊

    WIN + SHIFT + S
A handy screenshot hotkey. You can select whole window, screen, or draw (rectangle or free form)
You can then CTRL + V it into apps like Discord, PS, Word... Anything. Or just save to desktop (it'll go in the Action Center, the bar on the right of the screen, where the BlueTooth, Wi-Fi and other quick setting and notifications reside.
So you don't need to keep using Snipping Tools.
Also, great workflow show-off / tutorial. I love learning some lesser known techniques to speed up my workflow, such as the scale vertices to median/3D cursor and quick fill.
