Instead of scaling in the seam or similar things, I like to move with "individual origins" and "normal" fixed in the Z axis, so all points go in evenly
@@DerekElliott not to keep you here but just so you know since I posted this I've watched so many of your other tutorials. I just like your style. Sometimes even when I'm not actively using blender. Big fan. Learnt a lot. Thanks. And I do go for walks when you tell me!
@@DerekElliott The command is for 'Shrink/Fatten' - very useful for scaling anything evenly along its normals. Sometimes if something else on your PC has already mapped Alt+S, Blender will replace/remove that shortcut and you will need to re-add it manually. Check your Keymap config in preferences (Keymap > Mesh > Shrink/Fatten). I hope this helps! Keep up the amazing content Derek!
For the seams i usually bevel the loop cut more than one segment and then i select the central loop cut, i usually use alt s instead of s to scale evenly from all sides and turn on proportional editing to affect the near loop cuts! Overall clean and really good tutorials as always!
To say you are an underrated artist is an absolute injustice! You have a simple, amazing, unique and unmatched style. I watched your presentation/class on BCON22 and I got amazed by your work and minimalist workflow philosophy. Therefore, I had to explore your channel. I don't think you realize how intuitive and educational your workflow is. I work with Blender (ArchViz) for about 3 years. In this video, I've learned the easiest way to create procedural textures for walls and fabrics. God bless you for sharing your knowledge and energy. Thanks!
Really chuffed I found your channel...you work exactly like I do...a little hacky lol...been trying to retrain in blender coming over from Max and you kind of just made that process a whole lot simpler with this tutorial....Love furniture Friday
Had not watched the video yet, now i did... Furniture friday, toiday is saturday ;) Would love to see a video about your furniture render on one of channels. Its that green environment, for the MUUTO brand. Thjey are so nice! PS what a lovely brand, they have so much download data available. Really love that. It helps them also getting their products across more people as we can use them in renders. Those models on his own site, the single color version, looks way nicer than the 2 tone version with the black framing.
Client - "Ahh wow, great model man!" Designer (thinks) "Yeah, don't look too closely...." ^ This perfectly captures the life of a designer for sure... What the eyes don't see the heart won't feel!
Sometimes solidify works good with complex mode. And for seams instead of s to scale we can hit alt s to scale along normal (no need for bevel weight, trust me 😁)
This is exactly what i needed, thanks! As a sugestion, i'm often struggling to get a good setup to make still images of furniture for catalogs, a tutorial on how to get a pure white background with a small shadow would be great.
thank you, i followed your steps, and also get nice result, thank you! I would like to see tutorial how to make iphone 14 and how setup nice lights and get nice reflection
What software do you think they used to originally design this chair? As from what I’ve heard, Blender isn’t indicated to manufacturing, but how should you develop such complex forms with other software?
I believe you missed a metal part on the chair. The one that goes under the seat. It's kinda hard to explain through a comment though. Edit: Nevermind you caught it!
@Derek Elliot Can you please explain how your drew the vertices and then stretched the tubing for the back of the chair? I can't figure it out after googling it. Thx
the most important part is the presentation and you did it in 4 minutes, please tell me you have done this once before 🥺, because I spend like 1-2 hours just for the presentation
I am following the fabric shader bit on my own chair design. It looks ok but not as good as those in the video. How do I gain mastery of this fabric shader creating skill?
Derek uploading more in 2022 is what blender community needs. :D
@RealTimeX Wow. Even your work is good. I subbed to you too. :D
This! Is the Tweet!!!
yeah, true
Derek one of the blender revolutionary, Furniture Friday will be the greatest gift for blender user, thanks for the effort 👌
please continue to do furniture Fridays. it would bring much needed joy to my life.
Instead of scaling in the seam or similar things, I like to move with "individual origins" and "normal" fixed in the Z axis, so all points go in evenly
This is the ultimate channel for a product designer interested in learning blender. Thank you for making this for the community.
Thank you Benjamin
immediate subscription. its like being shown how to do it as if you were just hanging out. not overwhelming or convoluted
also sometimes when you quietly trail off it makes me think of the whale from 12oz mouse.
I do tend to trail off. I'll have to watch

@@DrLazerbeam haha nice keep up the blender AND the walks!
Tip: "Alt + S" is the better version than "S" when working with fabric seams ;)
PS. loving the idea of furniture friday, thanks for sharing, Derek!
I feel like there is some inside joke where alt s works for everyone but me lol

I genuinely enjoy how lengthy and informative your tutorials are! Thank you so much!

Good workflow thank you
Thanks Derek, one of the best tutorials I found in YT. Saudaçoes do Brasil

A Bauhaus classic, that has simple geometry and just looks super cool.
Definitely a classic... TOO classic?!
the way he said my favorite designer and then he mispelled his name, derek is a legend

Enjoyed the approach. Learned some new tricks, looking forward to more.

Haha never want to get tooooo caught in the details
Please continue furniture friday!
the Togo couch seems to be everywhere rn, might be fun to try
Good idea I'll have to think about how I'd do those folds!
please keep going this was a great watch!
Interesting!! this looks like something i think i could handle. The running shoes were way way above my skill level.
This is definitely a little easier of an object but with a little less explanation probably! Give it a shot
Love it man. Keep them furnitoriels comin'.
love your vids man- i would really like to see an eevee lighting set up similar to your thumbnail / intro anim
More furniture friday, love it! Very nice pacing and technique!
Really love your technics, smart and very adjustable, thank you so much for sharing, I learn a lot with you, your tutos are gems !
Thanks for massively needed content, Derek! Looking forward to furniture fridays! How about some of Ron Arad stuff? Or Zaha Hadid maybe?
Great ideas, love zaha
48:55 hahah, I was waiting for this. When will you notice the missing part.
Derek is the man 👍
And again a great video. You are so relaxing to watch.
great video thanks Derek
I’d love to see more of these from you!
Sometimes solidify works good with complex mode. And for seams instead of s to scale we can hit alt s to scale along normal (no need for bevel weight, trust me 😁)
thanks for sharing videos. i have learned alot...
Nice project Derek👍
Stay Continue👍
These damn long videos are damn awesome!

Yes there are some videos out there on this but I need to make one!
Really love your tutorials! Great style, natural, keep it that way👍
Scaling the box in the N panel is way easier :) I would also simply copy the ref plane so i hardly would have to any scaling
You are awesome :) Really thank you so much for these detailed explanation
Thank you❤❤❤
Many many many thanks for sharing
Truely amazing work! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Am still bummed how easy you made the fabric by just using the magic node :D
Magic fabric is best fabric
Great tutorial! Thanks for sharing!
thank you, i followed your steps, and also get nice result, thank you! I would like to see tutorial how to make iphone 14 and how setup nice lights and get nice reflection
awesome tips sir... keep up the good work.....
Hey Derek, do you know anything about the legality of selling furniture 3D models from different brands?
Congratulations on new house :)
I don't know how much to thank you...
fantastic work as always.

huge thanks :D
We need more video's! 😃
More furniture Please 😍😍
Hi Derek, How r u? .I am a big fan of your work...I am new in blender. Please do a basic video about Object mood. Thanks in advance

good job
Super!
helpful as usual
thank you for this video and is so helpful
thats mega dope
thx man
I believe you missed a metal part on the chair. The one that goes under the seat. It's kinda hard to explain through a comment though.
Edit: Nevermind you caught it!
Did u use Alt + s to scale? Sometimes instead of cltr s? What is the difference?
Wanna see some shelve with some stuff in future =)
Agreed. I want to do other non seating furniture/homewares!
@Derek Elliot Can you please explain how your drew the vertices and then stretched the tubing for the back of the chair? I can't figure it out after googling it. Thx
Ctrl + click (or right click?) Will extrude to mouse position. Then I used a skin modifier
Wooooww, cool
Hi, what addons you use to see dimensions on objects ?
It's a built in feature in overlays options
What does Ctrl+A do in edit mode? It's the first time I encountered that in a tutorial
the most important part is the presentation and you did it in 4 minutes, please tell me you have done this once before 🥺, because I spend like 1-2 hours just for the presentation
I am following the fabric shader bit on my own chair design. It looks ok but not as good as those in the video. How do I gain mastery of this fabric shader creating skill?
Sometimes I think if I have mistaken by deciding to stop doing 3d. I for sure love it a lot but only as a hobby.
Fine to keep it as a hobby only! It will always be at least a hobby for me
