@@sterobson - hi, great to hear you were the pacer 😁 I just couldn’t keep up that day. I was surprised to see the pacers as other events usually do the last Saturday of the month.
Glad to see you both enjoyed your visit to York. We did the first ever event there when such things were encouraged. It's fast on paper although quite congested at the start. Good luck with the 40!
We’d seen a few videos where the start looked tight, but they were filmed over the wetter months and puddles kept the spread quite narrow. It wasn’t too bad for us as with the grass being dry, we had room to take in a wider start. It’s the same at Arrow Valley. Once the verges are dry it’s so much easier for everyone to get a better start 🙂
The watch is back up and running fine now luckily. We wouldn’t want it to fail on another run 🤣 I don’t know why I’d even pretend to think I’m going to go slow. I just know it won’t happen 🤦🏻♀️😁
Hi, thank you! Yes, it was probably the best course we’ve been to for speed. I think when it’s wet they get a few puddles and I bet it’s a different story with a headwind 😁
I don’t so much mind the cooler winter weather, it’s just the rain 🌧️…. which shows no signs of stopping 🫤 Sunny days are lovely though, hopefully we’ll get more than a couple of days soon ☀️
@@racheld1844 I think 90% of my longer runs were in the rain, so that’s probably why my dislike is coming from! The sun is nice for shorter stuff… Not so much for midsummer marathons!!
Yet another Parkrun that is on my list as well!! Even though I'm nowhere near you and Rory's level, I've been really struggling with the heat lately. It never gets warmer gradually it tends to be freezing one day, heatwave the next!! Great running especially when you not 100% looking forward to the ultra video.👏
Hi Neil. I completely agree, 1 minute it’s baking, the next it’s rainy and cold. Then it’s back to square one getting used to the sun again 🤦🏻♀️ Hope you’re keeping up with your tourism too? 🙂
Yes, thanks, Rachel, I did Burgess in London on saturday. I'll be doing another London trip in early June, then hopefully Humber Bridge and I'll be making another attempt to go to Aston Hall soon. I do love the tourist ones!! Hope you and Rory are back to feeling 100%🤞🤞
@@neilsumner6440 London is its own micro country of so many different events. I’ve yet to venture that way. Humber Bridge looks like a fun one to do. I’m pleased that Aston Hall is still going, hopefully you can get that one done before too long. Enjoy your adventures 😁
I was in Yorkshire recently and decided to do the North Yorkshire Water Park parkrun which was fun with a hamstring injury. I will do York next time I’m in Yorkshire.
Yes, there are a good few to choose from around York, which is nice. We ran at Skipton last year, the day after we ran the Yorkshire 3 peaks. If we head that way again we’d love to do Fountains Abbey. Hope your hamstring is feeling better now 🙂
Even though you were under the weather you still put in a blinding performance! Still faster than my fastest parkrun 🤣 kudos to you Rachel. Great running from Roary too. 😎🤘
Sorry to hear that you were both not feeling your best for what looked like a fast parkrun course! I also picked up a cold a couple weeks ago and it may be a minor illness but it really takes a toll on running. I hope you're fully recovered and ready for your upcoming race!
Hi Chloe. Luckily, whatever we had has now all but gone but it just dragged on for soooo long. Think this’ll be my lowest monthly mileage in a long while. Hope you’re feeling better too? We were just pleased we hadn’t picked it up a couple of weeks earlier or that’d have been the end of a fast marathon race 🙂
I love it -- Rory is supposed to do 10 min / miles and gets sub 24. Typical and I'd probably do the same. Hope you all get over that cold you are both having. I know something is going around here as well. I think I've seen the York course on some other YT channels as well -- seems like a popular one. Fantastic time for you as well despite being under the weather!
We were just kidding ourselves that we could just take it easy 😁 Both of us didn’t do too much damage though. Yes, York attracts lots of tourists as York itself is a great place to visit, plus it’s one of only 2 parkruns to start with a ‘Y’ in England. So it has a big draw for those wanting to complete their alphabet 🙂
@@racheld1844 I can't tell you the number of races I've done where I've told myself "I am taking it easy" or "I am not racing this one". I think I was mildly successful last year on a very hilly and hot half marathon... At the end of the race I was half telling myself, I wasn't racing and at the same time disappointed with my time.
It is so good to have the sun out isn't it, but agree we're not used to it yet! Any more southerly parkruns on the plan soon? I need to start planning my 300th, probably end of July.....
Hi Gary, no, no plans as yet for any other parkruns. We’ll probably be staying local for a bit while we shift our training over the next few months. I’m not sure there’s any stand out parkruns on the list but if we head back up to Yorkshire at any point, we’d like to do Fountains Abbey I still think Severn Bridge is the highlight…. perfect for a 300th 😁
The curse of York parkrun 🤣 I think we probably had it before the Walsall run. Neither of us tested so still none the wiser to what we had. We’re feeling much better now thanks 🙂
It was a shame we couldn’t go full pelt. It was definitely fast. One thing I’ve never done is a 5k outside of parkrun. I do wonder if I’d run any different to a Saturday morning. I keep meaning to book one (or even find one 😁)
Shows it’s a fast course. That’s what we’d have hoped for but not this time unfortunately. We still had a great weekend visiting all the sites of York though. So much to see. Least you can say you’ve ran sub 20 😁
@@racheld1844 I know! As I got into the last km I told myself if I kept going and went sub 20 I’d never have to do it again. Dry heaved at the finish line and had to wait 24 hours for official confirmation of time as they lost a timing machine 😳
@@conradburdekin722 - That’s something that’s in the back of my mind too. What if the official time comes out different or worse still, they void that weeks results 😱 Bet you were relieved when the results finally came through…and confirmed you’d gone sub 20 😁
@@conradburdekin722 - my watch at York said 21:38 but official was 21:30. The amount that were crossing the line at the same time got manic. I’ve no idea how they kept everyone in order.
Hope you didn't adversely affect your performance at the ultra. Sensible thing would have been to give it a miss; but us runners are not known for being sensible are we? Hoping you both feel better soon.
Thanks Peter, yes, we’re both feeling back to normal now. I thought my cold was just going to be around for a few days and then clear up but it decided to linger a lot longer than I hoped. It was a close call on whether to do the ultra but we decided to give it a shot anyway 😊
I was the 21 minute pacer in this video, it really was a hot day so well done for putting in such a great effort.
