Hi, my name is Rachel and I’m a lifelong mover, I never sit still! I mainly run and strength train but sometimes cycle, swim and walk or basically anything to keep me active. I love to test myself to see what I can achieve and keep adding new goals to my list.
I run anything from 5km to 100 miles ….and everything in between and I like to train hard to get the best out of myself. I’m not a club runner and I’ve never used a coach so I’m pretty much self taught. TH-cam is a great source of information and motivation for me and decided to add a few videos of my own.
Thanks for stopping by to read and watch my videos 👍

How much speed have I lost training for 100 miles? - 5km Fitness Test
Just 7 days out from my 3rd 100 mile race, I decided to run an all out 5k effort to see how much speed I’ve lost during the summer’s ultra training. I returned to Edgbaston Reservoir parkrun to see what kind of shape I’m in compared to peak marathon training from earlier in the year.
Tracking link is now available. I’m 3rd on the list of names, race number 156 and my full name is Rachel Davies. Tracker will start at 9am on Saturday 12th October.

Did I run my fastest Warwick parkrun? - chasing pbs
มุมมอง 1.1K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
For the last 3 weeks we’ve been revisiting some local parkruns with the aim of beating our course pbs. The first 2 have been pretty close but not quite quick enough to be a pb but today we venture to Warwick Racecourse parkrun to see if we can beat our best times. There’s an update on training since The Bridge Ultra and an announcement of a race coming up next week. Thanks so much for watching ...

You've got to love park run with its runners of all speeds, dogs and push chairs
Realised there had been no vlogs in a while. Hope you are ok and have a great Christmas.
@@Runner_Emma Hi Emma. Yes, just having a break from videos at the moment but I have my 100 video still to get out at some point. Hope you have a great Christmas too 🙂
Always useful ❤
@@Mack.Tracks - see you later 👋
I wonder why they called it the Lickey Hills ?! Good to have targets
@@paulclarke7130 The Lickeys always seem to end up on daft place names lists 😂
Looked like a largely flat course in amongst the football pitches
@@paulclarke7130 - this was our temporary route while they widened paths of the old route. We didn’t know that at the time but it was good to get back to the paths round the lake.
Watching this has inspired me to give the track another go. I used to go regularly when i belonged to a club . The track can be a little intimidating. I liken it to the gym weights room as you will always find others who are far quicker and stronger . You just have to remember that we are only competing against ourselves, really.
@@paulclarke7130 the track will definitely improve speed for sure. It’s hard work but the results are worth it. Unfortunately I don’t run on the track any more. I got put off when I pulled my calf one session, wearing spikes. There’s that, plus it was always a mission for motivation to get there. Most of my speed sessions are now just on my regular routes.
We all need a little variety in our lives i would never have guessed you'd bought a scooter.
Nothing Freudian in the size of that obelisk 😂 . Personally, I'd like to run every day, but i now build in 2 days rest a week just to recharge the body battery.
Well i hope you have beaten your 3.15 marathon goal i guess i will find out if i keep watching im only 4 years behind! I never got better than 3.29 at London Marathon
Love the t shirt, novel idea 💡
It's a simple but good idea for a challenge. I wonder if it's still going on strava for 2025 ? Couldn't find it so perhaps 🤷 not. Anyway good running speed bound to suffer with all those miles in your legs
Myst admit i would have turned back when i saw that river to wade through 😂
@@paulclarke7130 - I probably should have turned back too 🤣 maybe waterproof socks next time 🤔
If you prepare well for anything it can give you some confidence but if its your first time doing a distance its a step into the unknown.
@@paulclarke7130 lockdown definitely played a part in me getting all the extra miles done. I got probably some of my best long distance training in back then. The race itself went ok, I finished but didn’t feel great from the start. Still trying to crack the secret of a good 100 😅
The things we did in lockdown 😂 Like a hamster on a wheel . Well done 👏
@@paulclarke7130 - people thought I was crazy… but I loved doing this 🤣
It's almost 2025 and in my madness im watching from the beginning of youtube journey 😅 There are still people out there who deny there is any climate change but the reality is flooding is here to stay.
Like you, I've always thought running to be an investment in my own health. Of course, it's a fine line between peak fitness and getting injured, so rest days are important as well.
@@paulclarke7130 - I can’t even remember what I said in this video 🤦🏻♀️ but yes, it’s definitely an investment and I’m really grateful that I’ve been able to run so well for so long. Probably most proud of my motivation. It could have been so easy just let running take a back seat but I look at all the benefits its brought and it makes it all worthwhile, and hopefully will continue that way 😊
Looked interesting unfortunately they dont have a strong presence in East Anglia unless ive missed it on the map
@@paulclarke7130 - In 2025 the ldwa’s main flagship event is being hosted by the Norfolk and Suffolk groups. Every year one region puts on the 100 mile event and next year it’s called the Sulfolk Flower 100. This year was in Scotland and last year was The Elephant, The Bull and The Bear which passed a lot of trails near me and got as close as 5 miles to my house. It’s all tracked so I went out to watch a few of the front runners pass through. I still really rate their events, even now. I’m keen to try some of their other events a bit further from home. It’s just trying to fit everything in 😂
You've summed up how difficult it can be to find time to run whatever your circumstances. Never put it off and remember how lucky you are to be able to run.
The smell of chocolate is very tempting, i imagine. Where i live in Bury St Edmunds, I come across 2 smells when running ! Sugar beet that's sweet and sickly, far better is the smell of the brewery Greene King. Sadly, the canal system never quite reached my home town before the railways came.
@@paulclarke7130 - I don’t think I’ve ever smelt sugar beet before, or if I have, I wouldn’t have recognised it. I have a sweet tooth so would probably quite like it 😁 I’ve only been to Suffolk once before, to a village near Sudbury. I had some friends that way about 20 years ago. No running though so didn’t get to sample any routes 🙂
Talk about loneliness of the long distance runner I don't recall you passing any other people on the hills! Very descriptive and entertaining video. You should be paid by the local tourist board 😉
@@paulclarke7130 - thanks Paul. Running in quiet places is a real treat. The Malverns tend to be quite a popular place to visit but going later in the afternoon/ evening meant a lot of the crowds had gone. I keep meaning to go back and retrace this route but haven’t had chance to fit it in (yet) 🙂
Well done, Rachel, I was there as well ran my second half marathon 🎉🎉
@@yvonnesekati9929 - Hi Yvonne, thanks 🙏 Nice to hear you ran too 😁

"Do you want to go back?" - that sent me 😂😂😂 Also, massive shoutout to that bag pipe player at the end. How wicked of him to just stand there by himself and cheer you guys on.
@@MrSmokedTurkey - hi, yes, the bag pipe player was a pretty memorable part of that race. He (I’m assuming it was the same guy) was there this year but was having a moments rest when I passed so I didn’t get to hear him play 🎵
Great to see. I feel it’s such a tough sport, as 52 yo guy I just trained for 8 weeks and am still struggling to beat 22 mins even though 5 years ago was sub 20. I wanted/want to get to sub 20 again but it seems miles away, can’t mange 1k repeats anywhere near 4min/k pace. What ever your fitness level though it’s always a pain game! Good motivation watching your vids
@@Wksfr - Hi, thanks for your comments. For me, I was able to build into a really good couple of years training and races after this video but I have a feeling my peak fitness may have passed also. Even maintenance now is hard going, let alone seeing any improvements. I try and reframe my expectations and look at where I am now with my times and if there’s an improvement on, say last month, then that’s a bonus. Looking back on best times can take the joy out of what the achievements are now. Also, I like to start each new year with a clean slate of times, so that then becomes my new benchmark for the year. Hope you manage to get comfortable with 22 mins again and then maybe head towards a sub 21. My biggest gains outside of running definitely come from strength training. Something I really don’t enjoy but know it’s the one thing that keeps my run times from crashing. So, if strength work isn’t something you’re already doing then I can definitely recommend adding some sort of program to your training.
Is there a button to take the picture in the stick?
@@lucas16dns hi, no there’s no button on the selfie stick to take a picture or start the recording. You can link up the camera with your phone, via the app, where you can control the camera.
I’ll give this a go this weekend, if everything goes to plan. Cheers for showcasing the course!
@@Mack.Tracks -everyone raves about this one 😁 I like it but it still has a mini ‘hill’. It’s fast so expect a good time…. Good Luck! Plus, well done at Stratford yesterday 🙌

@@BeeHappy-xj5ze Hi SJ, luckily I’m actually really ok about not getting to finish. I’m more pleased that I stopped than carry on with the race. It certainly hasn’t made me want to give up trying. I did look to see if there was anything I could enter this year but time has run out for 100 events. With hopefully Rory back on board training, then we’ve got some plans for the first half of the year and we’ll see how that goes. We’re really hoping to get to some different LDWA events for sure. How is your training going? It’s not long till your race now is it? 🤔
I was trying to spot you everytime i got to a turnround point. You were looking fresh on leg 2! There will always be another Autumn100.
Yeah, unfortunately I wasn’t turning around 🙂 Disappointed I didn’t finish but not unhappy with my decision to stop. How did your race go?
Yeah you will know what's right for you, those decisions are hard to make and you have to go with how you feel at the time. It's so easy to over analyse later on and make yourself feel worse. I managed to achieve the sub 24 and a lot of that was due to having a pacer who kept me moving during the night.
@@NazirKorimbocus - brilliant 🤩 well done on your time! I’d hoped that picking up my pacer would have helped me get through leg 3 but didn’t even get that far 🙄 Hope your recovery is going well and planning what’s next. I know I’m already looking at new races 🙂
