  • A former Catholic priest pleaded guilty to sexual abuse charges involving two boys. David Poulson faces up to 14 years in prison for incidents that happened between 2002 and 2010. He's one of only two Pennsylvania priests to face charges since a grand jury report identified hundreds of abusive clergy. Nikki Battiste spoke with two victims who confronted another priest with hidden cameras.

Marrisa Dominguez I can’t agree more. Sexual abuse is something that takes years to face in some cases. And when it happens the victims go threw a guilt of looking at their actions. And questioning if they did something to cause it. And if the person is strong enough to report it immediately then they get questioned by the police in the same accusatory way. And rape and sexual assault seems to be the only crime that becomes a case of the accuser needs to defend their actions. It is horrible.

It never goes away, no matter how hard your try to forget it, or stay busy. I’ve learned so much about dealing with my traumatic experience as a child, and it absolutely sucks because while your left to deal with anxiety, depression, sadness, your abuser is fine because they are sick in the head and enjoyed what they did and see no wrong. What I have learned is forgiving is the key. People say they will never forgive, but for me it’s truly helped me to let it go and not try to continue to hide it or cover it up. Again it doesn’t go away, but your not chained to the trauma anymore plus my faith in God and knowing one day we all are going to be held accountable for what we have done here on earth.

Most Catholics in the United States welcome these kinds of news reports. In fact, we are begging for them. Please know that we are fully aware at the corruption of our bishops, but we are powerless to rid our church of them. We need the help of journalists, news organizations and the US attorney's office. Please continue to run these stories, and please start to do in depth ones. Follow the money trail. Start with the archbishop Catholic appeal that goes on in every archdiocese. Show us where that money actually goes.

Michelle Gersic Catholics are not powerless in the church! The people hold all the power if they would only use it. The money comes from the people. No money, no church. I know well that it is complicated because people send their kids to Catholic school. I not only went to Catholic grade and high school but went on to earn 3 university degrees in theology. I loved my schools. But the fact is that the schools may have to be sacrificed, for awhile, in order for the Catholic people to demand what is right. Stop giving money to the church in any capacity and the bishops will have no option but to listen and change. The only other option for them would be to see the church shrink and eventually disappear. Please don’t ever say the people are powerless. They are not. Who pays for the priest to live? Who pays religious orders to survive? Who pays to build the church buildings and schools? Who pays for retired priests to live and have medical care? Come on stop this victim crap. I mean those who think they have no power in this institution. Theologically you may not have power. That is most regrettable and can be changed. The Church is not God. It is only a church. One of thousands. Check your priorities and your loyalities Then get about the business of making hard decisions and clean up YOUR church!

I'm still Catholic. It's not all of the preists, just like not all high school athletic coaches are abusers. The bigger problem is the bishops who cover it up, just like a principal who covered for a sexually abusive coach would be a bigger problem than the coach.
I'll never trust priests blindly again though, I'll tell you that. I don't run from them. But I keep strong boundaries, and I'll be teaching my children that if anything ever happens, I will believe and defend them, and fight to protect them (both with priests and with coaches).

They are trying to do that now! You could have been molested as a child... And then 30 years later you're triggered by what have happened to you! When I was a child a boy had molested me and many others! One of my family members were molested by him for five years! I am 58 years old and my family member is 60 and when he and I spoke just recently he broke down and told me how this has affected his life! Throughout the years I have tried to find this person without any results! Until recently I found him! I went on the sexual offenders list... Without a doubt I knew I was going to see his face! I was shocked he wasn't on it! So what I did I called the police department in his state and spoke to the detective who is in charge of pedophiles! He was very sweet very understanding and got on the case! After a few conversations with the detective he called me back and told me he has never been charged with any misconduct of sexual abuse! Though in the same breath he stated many pedophiles never get caught! I was ready to throw up! In this whole process this man at sexually abused me and many others and has gotten away with it throughout all these years... Sickens me!!!

There really has to be some sort of lay oversight in the church. My son went to a fantastic school in his junior years. The teachers were fantastic , the principal was fantastic and most of all there was a dedicated band of parents who did a tremendous job of supporting the school through the PTA . We had fetes , quiz nights , pamper evenings , dog nights , etc etc etc . Always something on the go. Everyone at the school was focused on the job at hand . It was a great school and a happy little school. Even though it was a poor school. Anyway not long after my son left it turned out that the 'trusted' school book keeper who had been left alone to do her job had embezzled a fortune from the school. It was only then that I realized that in spite of all of our hard work and very successful events that the school was always short of money. And parents were always being asked to chip in for this and that. And I did not think about it . And neither did any of the other wonderful parents. The board of governors was a dormant rubber stamping body . If members of the PTA had been given just a little bit of oversight and the power to ask questions none of this would have happened. And so it is with the church. There are many many wonderful good decent honest members of the laity but they have no power to demand answers. The job of preaching and teaching must of course always stay with the priests and the bishops . But as far as the running of the church ordinary lay members must have the ability to demand answers to questions. my pennies worth.
