The grand jury report details allegations against more than 300 predator priests in six diocese covering more than 1.7 million parishioners. Nikki Battiste sits down with several victims who are speaking out together for the first time.

Old news... this has been going on for CENTURIES!!!! The church paid off my ex husband's family in 1983 when a priest from a Catholic HS in San Antonio molested him... He died at 50 from alcoholism.. in 2015.. Father Jim, Antonian HS SA..... Oh and this priest was promoted through his career!! They just move them around...

I was raped when I was 5, didn't have the guts to say anything until I was 13 when my tormentor came back, that's when I started getting panick attacks, one day I told my teacher. Everyone got involved. Police said that due to statues of limitations, nothing could be done. When I was about to get married, I had to go confess. I told the priest I had hate in my heart, and had mental health issues due to what happened. He said "Obviously you are over it since you're getting married, say 10 hail Marys and you will be fine"..... Needless to say I am no longer a Catholic

If you watch the docudrama Spotlight at the end of the docudrama there is a list of Diocese throughout the US of crimes committed against children.There are hundreds of Diocese listed in cities all over the country. These are cases where large numbers of children were abused.

This is so horrible. As a devout catholic I am deeply sorry and ashamed to know that this is happening in my church. Real Catholics do not condone these evils. The catholic faith does not teach this. Yet, this is clearly a very real problem systematically. I hope to see big changes and I hope that these evil men end up behind bars. This is truly wicked and appalling that anyone could let this happen. My prayers go out to the victims and their families.

As a devout young catholic ( also alter server), going to church makes me feel sick to my stomach. I still love my faith but I can’t help but wonder where else this is happening, and whether or not I am safe.

Surely those names will come out eventually. In this day and age, everything seems to come out. The Catholic Church certainly needs to make sure they are no longer in positions in churches. I understand, by their faith, that if you confess your sin, you are forgiven by God. But, I think they should have to confess their sins to man and serve time.

I am Catholic. I feel for these victims and want their abusers to be punished on earth for their crimes. I want this scandal to be a message to my church, a warning to never hide evil and cover up abuse-only breeds more abuse and drives people from the church. I can't nesessarily say I blame them if they walk away from the church, even though I believe my church is the way to eternal life in heaven. It is important to remember that the church is made of human members. Our first pope, St. Peter, comitted apostacy, yet Jesus still made him pope. I pray for God's mercy for those priests and that God console the vistims of abuse, and I hope to see swift and intensive consequences for them here. I remember the words of Jesus: "it is better that he tie a millstone around his neck and be thrown into tge ocean than lead one of these little ones astray." These priests, both who comitted abuse and who covered it up, will have to answer to the Lord for their crimes. May the victims receive healing and consolation.

When I first told my mother that I had been sexually abused (by a trusted and loved) family member, she looked at me in stark disbelief. As I expected her to. I've spent my life NOT being believed by either parent. Or I get, "what did you do to deserve that?" When she had regained her composure, she managed to blurt out, "well you can't go back there again," like it was something I had done. A few months before she died she announced that life had kicked me too many times, she shouldn't have married my father and she shouldn't have had children. And people wonder why I suffer from depression...
First, let me say this is horrible and disgusting. No priest should get away with this and I hope everything possible is done in the Church to fix this. However, this doesn't mean the Church's teachings are untrue. It doesn't mean Jesus didn't create a Church and it doesn't mean that Church isn't the Catholic Church. Although not by a catholic. I am also a child rape survivor for 3 years before I was 13. My prayer is for protection, healing, understanding, and forgiveness for the victims.
Forgiveness is the hardest. To forgive does not make the offense ok but it did make me right with God.
I had to learn to forgive my abuser in order to find love and trust inspite of my past. Now I can't be harmed in mind from the past by remote control by my abuser. I refuse to let him have another moment of my life.

Most Catholic Bishops will never be honest about this, or care about the vicims of priests and bishops who enacted their lust on innocent and vulnerable targets. The pain of such a thing never compleately goes away.

This is old rehashed news. The church already dealt with this in 2004. Read the John Jay study and you will find out the real numbers and how the church is vindicated. Most of this was caused by priests who shouldn't have entered the priesthood, they didn't want to be drafted during the wars. Still, most cases were in fact dealt with properly by local bishops. 99% of priests have not been accused of any improper acts. That is an incredible number. However, 1% can hurt numerous people and did back in the last century. This century, the church is much more thorough and transparent in how they are running the semanaries and how they deal with accused priests. But those numbers have dropped since 2001 dramatically. Let's focus on Christ our creator and savior.

The effects of sexual abuse don't have a statute of limitations why do abusers ?
One of these people was 2 years ahead of me in high school, but I learned that fact only a few days ago. The victim was one of two who were abused while in 9th grade in a Catholic high school. The other victim complained to the school administration, and was expelled for her pains. The evil priest responsible for this abuse is still alive.

I think that the statue of limitations should be eliminated. Many people do not even remember until later after therapy what has actually happened to them. If you are sexually abused it affects your entire life and how you look at yourself for the rest of your life. AS the result of the statue of limitations people are not held responsable for destroying the person they abused entire life.

It’s not the Catholic Religion that is the predator, but it’s those who proclaim them to be Catholics and go on and take advantage of it. Please don’t blame the religion, because the religion itself is very beautiful. It breaks my heart that many people assume that since the people who run the church makes the mistake so did the religion itself, but that’s a really wrong reasoning because religion is a way to practice your Faith.
I was raised as a Christian and believed it. After studying about the origins of Christianity and the history of religions, I realized religions were the products of humans. However, anyone should be able to realize Christianity, as well as other religions, are simply superstitions. If you believe in an all-powerful, all-knowing god, then that god must watch while children are raped, tortured and must see their suffering yet does nothing. Don't bring up "free will" because children have no free will. They obey their perpetrators; they have no choice. All religions control their victims with fear, guilt, shame and empty promises of life everlasting in paradise. When any good has come from religion, it is because human beings can be good due to something called a conscience. Think about it!

My condolences to the victims. I too was a victim... but when I got old enough, I fought back. A strong youth can fight like a raging spirit. Don't just take it . Fight , bite , kick and scream. janette Zuniga .....calm down.....you can read the bible for yourself....read it slowly the NIV version....you will find that salvation is by faith not works a gift by the grace of God....faith is defined in Hebrews 11:1....I am sure of what I hope for >salvation provided by the work of Jesus...& I am certain of all he did including rising from the dead even though I did not see it....pray to the holy spirit to get the faith....accept Jesus personally as your own Lord & Saviour....then keep the faith because who is like the Lord? >no one!....you cant keep a maybe attitude (I will go to church & hope its all true)...the only work God gives us is to believe in Jesus > that's what Jesus says....God Bless you!
