love RTD ♥
Takes Bain & Armstrong a month to write an episode and Russell T as little as 4 days. And you can see the end result. What shall we watch tonight, Peep Show or Torchwood? Uh, let me think.
@graemeoliver84 but steven moffat wrote that clip. "I like bow ties, bow ties are cool"
@th4397 Case in Point: "Parting of the Ways" vs "Love and Monsters"
@LondonPride25 Subjectivity is a wonderful thing.
@omgsrslolz To be fair, it's often easier to give advice than to follow it. I'm not the biggest RTD fan, but it does highlight how difficult it is to write good dialogue, even when you already know what makes good dialogue. Like all writing, really.
I don't think he's in a position to talk about bad dialogue, unless he's talking about his own scripts.
@LondonPride25
but what would the majority be more likely to watch??
He finishes scripts in half the time and probably earns double....
I'd personally rather watch Peep Show but there's a lot more who'd watch Dr.Who or Torchwood
awake the behemoth
@StetsonsAreCoool Don't mention Coldplay
My stepbrother calls me sis..
Hate is a strong word. I hate very, very few people, especially not some TV writer I've never met. I was just giving my opinion, as you've given yours. I think you're wrong and you think I am. C'est la vie.
talk sense
@StetsonsAreCoool Well okay you mentioned Coldplay once, but I gues you got away with it. But I'd like to remind you that Coldplay is a sensitive issue for most people in mainland Europe.
@peanutbutterbummer There are also a lot more people who'd rather watch the X factor than Peep Show. People are (sometimes) idiots.
Yeah, after watching RTD's Doctor Who episodes, I pretty much ignored everything he said here. I've never seen more cringey, expository dialogue and plotting than in his episodes of that show.
Ditto. I don't understand peoples gushing over the RTD era. All the sets look like they came from Eastenders, and the dialogue is hammy as fuck. Before people say it was related to budget, it wasn't. Watch anything RTD has had his paws in. It's just what he gravitates to for whatever reason
I mean, just look at where they're saying in the clips here. "There's a banana grove there now. I like bananas. Bananas are good." *cringe!* To me RTD just sounds a bit hung up on whatever screenwriting theory he's learned and it makes his writing stilted.
Check out the writers tale, it's excellent. RTD considers screenwriting theory books to be useless
Rusell T Davies is so inconsistent! Writes brilliantly and then writes utter shit!
Russel T Gayvis giving tips on writing?
Where's all this RTD hate come from? Besides, Peep Show is nothing special whereas Children of Earth was fantastic.
