Exactly. I was a young kid and really didn't have sense of time yet so one episode really did feel like a movie to me. I miss the old shows. Shows where everyone made nights of it. My cousins shouting to come because A-Team is coming on later or Night Rider. Hell even the old wrestling matches with Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior and Andre the Giant. Good old Days.....

Very few shows in television history are like that: Miami Vice and The Cosby Show for the 80's, Twilight Zone in the 60's, All in The Family for the 70's, Seinfeld for the 90's and The Sopranos for the 2000's. These shows didn't just define their genres but defined their eras and influenced most of the other shows and pop culture in their eras and beyond.

Michael Mann had such attention to detail in everything. The clothes weren't matchy matchy, but look closely and you'll see something in everyone's clothes that coordinates. Also, I read that if they were in a room with walls that clashed with the clothes, they'd just paint the wall. He was a perfectionist.

When the pilot first aired. Watched every episode every Friday night after that. There was nothing like it back then. Michael Mann basically fused an action buddy cop genre with music, the styles, and colors of the 80s and produced an hour long music video each week. It was pretty groundbreaking for TV back then. There were a sprinkling of appearances for fans back then but if there were fan conventions like today, the cast would be mobbed.
I'm not sure there's a police drama today that rivals it. Sure there are good cops shows today but they don't blend all the components of the current era the way this show did in the 80s. It made a pretty big mark on pop culture back then. The clothes, the razor stubble look, the flashy neon, the pastel colors, and the music. Because of how the music was incorporated, Miami Vice grabbed the MTV audience when it used to still play videos. It was like watching a music video every week.

I was 9 yrs old when Miami Vice first aired on Friday nights at 10pm on channel 4. My dad would pick us up on Fridays and he didn't ever tell me I couldn't watch it. It wasn't for kids lol. I usually fell asleep before the hour was up. However I did end up seeing all the episodes eventually. It still airs on cable every night at 11. I love it then and now. I was infatuated with Crockett.

Miami Vice, Literally a series that was ahead of it's time. What an era. The nostalgia is real man. Been re-watching the entire series these past months, and what a time. Don't think any show can come close too it these days. Sad that the era, is long past. Iconic storyline, themes, instrumentals, characters and so much more. Legendary. What makes me appreciate the show even more is that they used some of Collin's music, truly iconic. What a scene, and who would of thought how iconic this duo would be.

The 80s mate. The BEST time of my life period and Miami Vice spearheaded that wonderful decade when people still had love for each other regardless of ethnicity, nationality etc....
And the MUSIC Was just in a class all its own.
All those incredible artists from the United States and especially the U.K.!! The UK had no limit to the talent that was coming out at that time. It almost seems like Magic when describing that Era. When ever I think of that period a smile comes to my face and my heart ❤ because in my view that was the best time to be a young man growing up and getting out into a world that was so much simpler then and was not anywhere near as soulless, angry, intolerant and hostile like today.

Very well said! I graduated from high school in 1981, and was in college during the time Miami Vice came out, I remember it so well on Friday nights...whenever I see these videos I always get nostalgic for that period of time, the 1980s... I just watched the video here titled: "Lieutenant Castillo’s First Appearance | Miami Vice" , the scene where Castillo walks into the Police station past all the cops Crocket and Tubbs are at their desks, note there are NO COMPUTERS anywhere to be seen....that scene alone will make you very nostalgic....

And I was in front of the TV 9pm Friday night never missed an episode and watched until the final episode... I immediately gravitated to Ricardo Tubbs... The Brother was Bad and Smooth.. And Being from The projects in East New York Brooklyn you needed those two qualities.. Next to John Shaft I mean Richard Roundtree.. no offense Samuel L. Jackson.. I just dated myself again... Lots of videos of Miami Vice here and there that I'm receiving in my feed last days and I've to comment... Saw this show in Italy for the first time when I was a teenager around 15 and was startled by the intro: so "new" at the time, an iconic, very different approach to filming, incredible music and songs that accompained every single episode, "fresh air", litterally. Instinctively perceived it as a piece of art or something that would have been remembered in the future. I was spot on. Every actor here seems to be born for this series ...and that white Testarossa... everyone I know of dreamed and (secretly) continues to dream today to drive one in linen clothes and sunglasses going high speed towards the sunset...
