This is true, I discovered Miami Vice in France, probably at the end of the 80s. This TV series is clearly the point of origin,of the fascination who exist in France for the city of Miami.

One of the great things about this show was it extensive use of hit songs and song writers to create the perfect atmosphere for the scene. This scene for example use almost the whole song for this scene alone. Nowadays that would cost the production a huge percentage of the daily budget in copyright fees just to attempt for just one song. Thats one reason why a great TV show like this will probably never happen again😞

I love how Miami Vice would play entire songs sometimes. That's one of the reasons this show will go down as one of the best. Constructing a scene around the entire song - awesome writing/ directing

It's ironic how, when Phil Collins appeared on Miami Vice, he played kind of a goof ball character, he was funny! Yet, his songs he did for the show were so intensely serious. Phil Collins is one of the all time great musical artists.

Miami Vice is a classic just as Magnum PI was. They did things that were never done before. And have yet to be done again. Miami Vice took a dead section of Miami and glammed it up. Made South Beach HOT. A place to be seen. The Sonny Crocket character inspired a fashion trend. And they used the right music to set the mood. Pop songs. And rock.
Interestingly they also used a Ferrari for Magnum PI. And was also partly what made that show stand out. A PI driving a RED Ferrari. :) Different tone of course.
A show like Miami Vice...surprised there was no nudity. Was there blood? Have both shows on DVD. Full seasons. Would I buy them again if they remastered them for 4k w/ Dolby Atmos?

I got this series on dvd for Christmas last year and just now got around to watching it. The way Tubbs is sitting at Castillo's desk with the dark sunglasses on is very well done and you can tell that he's still struggling emotionally from what happened, and then for extra moving effect, Long Long Way To Go kicks in. I love all the tiny bits of attention to detail here, Castillo checking his watch at 0:58 to make sure they leave for the funeral on time, Crockett lingering just outside the door at 1:01 waiting for Tubbs and how everybody walks out of the squad room together and how whoever the other detective is briefly puts his hand on Tubbs's back for a few minutes. The sheer audacity of Orlando Calderone sending flowers to the funeral made me angry for Tubbs's sake. For once, Zito and Switec weren't messing around or pulling pranks, they were there to support Tubbs.

The way Sting comes into the song is perfect. You know it’s him. Who wouldn’t. This song is the 1980s for the show of the 1980s. Anyone who doesn’t love the 1980s is not a good American.

There has not been a show like this since it came out. The music and the direction in these episodes says it all. We, as people are still talking about this show in 2021. That is how good the show is. We are still talking about it, today.

The scenes, the actors, the clothes, the cars, the music. It will be amazing if anyone can ever put this type of show together again.

Whoever picked the artist and there song for each individual scene during the whole Miami Vice run is a god!

They weren’t afraid of SILENCE Mann realised that more can be conveyed by eyes and facial expression. VERY VERY brave. This is basic drama school 101.

You’re so right. The silence in this show is as powerful as any dialogue

Compare it to CSI with dialogue overload.

The use of silence in Miami Vice is a trademark of this show. Sometimes adding is destructive

There was never a show like Miami Vice and there will never be again unless it returns my all-time favorite cop show Miami Vice
