Adam,I think that you can highlight to us that the buying of a machine is only a small part of the portion of the cost to start machining. I am constantly amazed at the amount of tooling that you use, for measurement, for work holding, and for cutting (especially consumables).
After seeing Adam using the 5c collet fixture I purchased one for my CNC lathe. I have been able to dial the runout to under 0.001 with the 3 jaw chuck.
you can also get sealed collets and tap the back ends of those bars (if they are hollow) and run TSC drills... no pecking needed! We retrofitted a staubli stainless quick connect onto our ROMI toolroom CNC lathe for coolant and have slowly converted every tool we run (in a CXA holder) to through tool coolant with a small pigtail that hooks to the coolant supply. Surface finish change, tool life, and drill performance is night and day.
@@jackjohnson6074 weird reply.. okay. believe what you want. It's what we did to run through tool coolant with a CXA type qctp.. works for us (albeit messy)
That collet chuck has a unique “dead length”design that I haven’t seen before. The collet is closed by a forward acting cam and doesn’t “draw back” when the part is clamped. Thus the part length is fixed and doesn’t change with small variations in stock diameter like other collet chucks that pull the collets in.
I use the iscar version of that part off setup. Main differences is the blade on the iscar tool has 4 pockets and I think the insert design is better because each insert only has 1 cutting edge instead of 2 edges. What you may find with that type of insert having 2 cutting edges is once you get to a certain cut depth the back side of the insert in the back of the pocket starts rubbing as your parting off leaving a bit of a bad surface finish which is why we went with the iscar part off tools.
I think it would be great to see you make a multifix tool holder for the pacemaker on the CNC. Nothing like using new tools to make tools for old tools😊
G'day, Adam. Excellent video of the various products for the CNC, which could be adapted for a standard lathe. It's amazing the tooling you can see & use compared to, say, 20 years ago. Considering you have the time & money you can make just about anything
I use the next size up of the iscar version of that parting blade, and it really is a game changer. Twice the surface speed, twice the feed. The only differnence is the iscar one has coolent to the insert.
Adam, an idea for a future video could be to cover the basics of carbide insert tooling (solid carbide cutters too) for us "home shop hobbyists," i.e., non-professional Machinists. I've never had to select the shapes, grades, etc., that go into choosing carbide insert tooling for my lathe or mill, but am interested in learning about it.
Hey Adam, you asked for suggestions: one from the past, SNS331 was a bind to watch. With you're new Flex Mill, would the journals and a line bore setup be the best way to repair that project? Appreciate there's shipping to consider but what do you think?
4:35 150 mm iz about 6". Also, you say 'turrent'. Therez no n in the word turret. (just trying to help here. And I'm a fine wun to tok - I'm 64 and didnt notis the first r in turmeric till 2021!)
LG. Herbst
I for one appreciate it. Not because the old music was bad or anything. No, because it started playing in the left channel and I would wonder if my headphones had developed a loose contact.
The moral of this video, don't send gifts because he won't even remember your name, even with a gift worth more than $500. Actually, if he cares, he could've put a post it note with every gift with date and name of the person who sent it. Or at least maintain an Excel spreadsheet of gifts and who sent them and when. And then pretend he remember the person, but he didn't even bother.
@@ydonl I've never claimed that I am perfect. And there is no future prediction here, just watch the video and you will see that he doesn't remember the name of a person who sent him a $500 gift, and didn't remember another person name too.
@@Vancouver2010BC I don't think he expected to lose track of who gave what; people just started sending him stuff as his popularity rose, because they wanted to say "thank you" and help him along. Lots of things! He used to go through the latest batch, with names, until the batches got too big to keep track of. Knowing someone's name is not really all that meaningful if you don't know the person it belongs to, and there's no way he could know it. If whoever sent the thing to him did it with the intention of being publicly thanked in a video at some point, they probably should have checked before hand. If they just wanted to help him, the name was not necessary. In any case, I'm not sure I'm his judge about it all; I've never lived through it, and I can only speculate, in speculative hindsight, about what how I might handle it. I think, in general, that standing in judgement of someone, especially without really thinking things through or knowing all the circumstances, is not a good thing. And, obviously, I'm a hypocrite in that regard!
@@ydonl Thank you for explaining your thoughts. However, I disagree with what you said about the intentions of senders. One should treat them all with respect and assume good intentions. It's impossible to look into their hearts and discern their true feelings or genuineness. How can one judge their intentions? Additionally, while I agree that mentioning the name may not hold much significance, it's essential to consider how the sender feels. Anyone who sent a gift of $500 would appreciate a thank-you and acknowledgment of their gesture. It's the least one can do for someone who extended kindness and wanted to help. Even if you were to pretend remembering the name, having read it from the notes, it would still be more thoughtful to mention it. Finally, I've been watching this channel for years and used to view every single video. However, in the last couple of years, I rarely watch it because the channel shifted from machining videos to promoting various companies and their products. Watching a video from this channel several years ago would highlight the stark difference. Therefore, these gifts could be from a time when individuals genuinely wanted to assist, rather than leveraging his popularity.
I still can't wrap my head around the fact that there are corporations and men (manly men, even) talking about instagram and facebook - services designed for women to spread gossip at the speed of light.

yes DoGrip is limited under 3mm.. TangFGrip for the win!
No N in turret. lol, I do it too. I also seem to like saying blesh you when people sneeze.
My wife says turret wrong too. :)

Only because you would always want to borrow tools from him.🤣
Milling and grilling. Yeah, I would say Adam would make an excellent neighbor.

I like the parting tool, not sure about the dual contact idea but I like the shorter indexable blade though.
Let me know how you like that AddForceCut, I have been thinking about upgrading to that for my shop
Great tools❤
Tungaloy mixing imperials with metrics, good luck to the salesmen xD
I come back when you test your wonder parting tools... maybe it sings like hell
Nice tools thanks for sharing

I could use some information on threading internal AN threads with the o-ring
I'd like to see the tools being used too.
Always enjoy these videos Adam, always interesting toys and can't wait to watch you play with them...
How about the different ways to hold/use a dial indicator.
Хороший инструмент таким прыятно работать
Can you please please do toolboxes tours watching from South Africa
love it
Interested how much the Tungalloy tooling cost you- you didn’t mention a price? I’m in the UK so appreciate there’s taxes.
New here?
Nope
I think your the next QVC spokesperson, your hand positioning, merchandise detailing expertise are a win
th\anks for sharing
Im wondering if the cut off holder could be adapted to the manual lathe
It certainly can be yeh
Iscar Tang5Grip.. 5 pockets
Thanks for sharing your tools.
pardon?
Nice one Adam!
I see chips what you been cutting 👀👀
What a new tune... :D :D
Very interesting
Tool Tuesday!!!!!!!
9:05 - what? 2 thou is 0.05mm. it is totally unacceptable for a collet. good collet must be somewhere in 0.01-0.005mm range.
The price is totally unjustifiable for a runout of 0,05mm. The chinese can do better than that for 100€.
I've never understood why CNC lathes have the tool pressure trying to lift the turret.
Abom said its a turrent so it must be fact.
@DirtyRobot Yeah, a lot of people do. Some also say ashphalt... oh well.
omg that's funny@@DirtyRobot
