  • I haven't seen many reviews on the Victorinox Boatsman. I've had this one for several years and decided to show many of the uses and possibilities with this tool.
    We paid $127 a few years ago.
    I've used this knife/multi-tool more than a hundred times.
    So, did we get our money's worth?

    Thanks for doing that opposite of the kind of reviews that you describe early on - this is much more informative because you use the knife to actually do practical tasks.

      Much appreciated. I've seen so many of the other kind. Some call it unboxing, which is fine. But, others call it reviews but they basically tell us what's written on the box. The only partially helpfully review of the Boatsman that I've seen is in Spanish. And, my Spanish is quite rusty.
      Again, many thanks.

    Thank you, even now there are not many reviews of the Ranger Boatsman MW Grip. And you showed the Ranger being used!

    I'm watching this in a hotel in Geneva. The Swiss Army Knife Flagship store opens 10 oclock tomorrow. I know I'm getting a Rangergrip but not which one. This has been really helpful mate. Thank you. Subscribing was easy decision 😁

      I am so glad to hear that. The whole purpose of doing these videos was to help people make decisions so that they would be happier with purchasing something that is of a good quality that they might not know about. I wish I was there at that flagship store myself. Unfortunately I'm not so I'm just sitting here with a smile on my face glad to somebody's going to get a really good time out of this. Take care and have a wonderful day.

      You are welcome. I hear the price skyrocketed up to $230.
      Good tool for what I paid. But $230 - SMH.
      Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Good video. And you're right about the price. As you say, even at hundred dollars it might be considered too expensive. I like the feature set, though.

    The corkscrew can obviously open wine but can also be used in conjunction with the keyring to lash the tool to the end of a stick

      Very true. Felix Immler shows that on one of his SAX videos. Thanks for watching.

    I never understood why most Americans don't drink wine. They all say that the corkscrew is great for untying knots and that they don't drink wine... Dude, wine is great over a meal. 🤣

    • @MasterYoist
      @MasterYoist  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Enjoy the wine. I haven't tasted one that I like. My other family members drink wine. I try it when they offer it, but I haven't liked it yet. Take care.

    Hi, thanks for the video, great job!
    I think that all of the „big“ SAKs are able to take bits as all interieur parts are standard. So all deviders or spacers have a hexagonal hole at the same spot. If You take of the scale You could drill an extra hole in Your handle. Get fancy with a file to shape it. There is a Video on Felix Immlers Channel where he does this mod

    • @MasterYoist
      @MasterYoist  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      True. I made a later video showing a very easy way to expose the bit driver and have it look "factory". Thanks for the tip as it may help other viewers. And thanks for watching.

    Great video. What do you think of the locking mechanism ? Do you think it's possible to accidentally push it while working ?

    • @MasterYoist
      @MasterYoist  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching and asking. I have two other Ranger grip knives that use the same locking mechanism as the boatsman. All three of them are pretty stiff for pushing that button. I really don't proceed accidentally pushing it and getting to locking mechanism to disengage. I think it's a very well thought out design. I've taken the scales off to check and see how it looks on the inside and they had a really good concept and they made it very well. Again, thank you for watching and for asking. Take care.

    That was a great review I love Victorinox that is a rather large knife are you able to carry it in your pocket

    • @MasterYoist
      @MasterYoist  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a little bulky for the pocket. However, it comes with a nice sheath for the belt. Does she comes with a pair of screwdriver bits. So it's going to be switched out to anything you want. The tool itself is not very heavy and goes very well on a belt. Thank you very much for watching and for commenting.

    Late to the party. Would you recommend getting it still now that it’s supposedly on the discontinued list? I can’t decide between this and the workchamp.

    • @MasterYoist
      @MasterYoist  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've never tried to work champ, so I can't actually compare the two. However, the boatsman is a solid performer. I don't think it would disappoint. Thank you for watching and asking.

    You should be able to just run a Black Sharpie marker over those measurements marks and then wipe the surface clean and the marks should be easier to read.

    15:08 man, the tight knots, once you got a marlin spike, cork screw is just an inferior tool for knots, otherwise you right videos about victorinox boatsman are sparse, good to see a tool in action :)

    • @MasterYoist
      @MasterYoist  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are 100% correct about that. I like having a corkscrew but will choose the marlin spike if I can only have one. Take care.

    $230 now :(...

    • @MasterYoist
      @MasterYoist  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For me, it's worth the $127 I paid for. I use it almost everyday and it pulls its weight for what I use it for. However, I don't see this is worth over $200. At that price I would find alternatives. And, there are plenty out there.
