    I have made the BEST crazy quilt toppers out of my scrap fabric bits. My grandmother taught me the no waste pf materials policy because she grew up in the Great Depression. I am 57 and still have the very 1st crazy quilt she made for me when I was 8 years old. I use flat bed sheets, just like she did, for the underside of the topper. I hand tie like she did. Every single crazy quilt I have sewn has been a treasure to give away to someone special. I think of Grandma being so pleased that I became a quilter and seamstress just like her.

      I also think this is more in the true spirit of quilting.i am a beginner and have watched so many tutorials about being precise during cutting ,and scant quarter inch seams my head is spinning. I have my great great grandmothers log cabin quilt and it is made of scraps of clothing and the only consistent color is the center block. I think it’s kind of a shame that so much perfection and pressure is placed on a quilter it hardly seems fun or relaxing. This is both!

    I have been doing this for year's and love the interesting results I've obtained. My scraps I start with are much smaller than what your video shows you using so I know it can be done. I generally do not use one color but prefer a very varied approach. My only size restriction is that at least the scrap must be 1/2 inch wide (or long) since with 1/4

    • @cynthialeffler5456
      @cynthialeffler5456 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Inch seams none of the scrap fabric would show of the piece was smaller. My seams are never as bog as that though, I make them as narrow as possible to hold together but use as small an amount in the seam allowance as possible. I've had a lot of fun using scraps and creating fabric and from the comments I've received others have been impressed as well. Just an idea to share, using as small as possible scraps that would otherwise end up in landfill s or otherwise unused. BTW any scraps that I do not use due to it being too small are utilized by going into a dedicated cotton pillowcase. When the pillowcase is full, the end is sewn together and the piece donated to an animal shelter for a good sized, very soft and comfy and washable doggie bed. No scrap to be thrown away. Reuse and recycle!

    Those are all so cute! Thank you for showing us how to do this technique! Until now, I've only ever seen how to sew scraps together in a sort of spiral technique, which I'm not too fond of because it reminds me of a spider web and because the pieces start small and keep getting bigger as you go around it. With your technique, I don't see a spider web pattern and they're beautiful. I love how they all turned out! I hope to try this when I have some scraps. Thank you again!! 🙂

My TH-cam pet peeves are videos by presenters who think they are auditioning for a Hollywood movie. So wordy, so chatty. NOT ON AN INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO! Just demonstrate, clearly and minimally speak, which you've done masterfully. We don't want to hear kids in bkgrnd, phones ringjng, the dishwasher going, age old stories interesting to nobody except the presenter, etc. My attn span for those types of videos are usually 5 seconds or less. Not exaggerating. Anyway, I've subscribed and look forward to more creative ideas. Thank you.

    love it! great idea and tutorial. is it okay to use different kinds of fabric together? thanks for sharing.

    • @CreatewithClaudia
      @CreatewithClaudia  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, you just have to watch what kinds of fabric you are using. For example, if you are using a knit alongside a cotton quilting fabric, you want to stabilize the knit.

    • @blowitoutyourcunt7675
      @blowitoutyourcunt7675 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Match similar weights with similar weight, otherwise the heavyweight fabric Will Survive while the thin friable fabric will get ripped apart, it needs stabilization with fusible webbing or some such to even out the weight between the Fabrics

  • @Kayenne54

    Actually still hanging on to some "failed patchwork" I started, never finished. It'll make great "fabric" for other uses. Got plenty of left-overs to add to it too.

    Just found your video and I really love it! ❤️ I would like to use this technique for knit scraps to create fabric for garments. Do you have any ‘rules’ related to grainlines?

    • @CreatewithClaudia
      @CreatewithClaudia  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't have any rules for the grain lines although I have only done this with 100 cottons so I don't know how it would work with other fabrics. If you try it I'd love to know how it worked.

    I am new to sewing, learning in my senior years. Like this idea of no waste. Could you explain why you use that little piece of fabric at the beginning of your sewing?

    • @CreatewithClaudia
      @CreatewithClaudia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching. I sometimes use a small piece of fabric when I start sewing to help the thread go thru so it does not jam. The machine I used in this video is an older one and sometimes the first piece can get jammed. This tiny bit of extra weight helps with that.

    • @ladiehawk
      @ladiehawk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CreatewithClaudia Thank you for explaining the use of the little piece of fabric. I have noticed a few times my material getting bunched up when I start, your idea will certainly help with this. I will enjoy continuing to watch and learn from your channel
