Ah LOVE the idea of layering a sheer neon on top of the patchwork!! Can’t wait to see what else you make, my friend ❤ I’m about to start working on a quilted valentines dress 😅 wish me ALL DA LUCK
I just discovered you today! I watch a lot of sewing videos, so I guess the Algorithm Gods smiled on me. :-D I absolutely LOVE your style - I just really connect with the whimsy and patchwork.... the whole vibe. I'm a lifelong knitter, but I guess I'd call myself an "advanced beginner" sewist. (I've made about 10 dresses, 3 quilts, 5 or 6 handbags, an apron, and tons of mending for my boyfriend :-) You are inspiring me to create with even MORE whimsy than I already do. (I'm 50 - am I too old for whimsy?) Oh, and I'm currently working on a babydoll dress - inspired by a floral-print border print fabric of which I bought two yards on clearance for a whopping $4.
oh hey!!!! thanks for being here!! you sound like a natural creative !!! you're NEVER too old for whimsy!!!! That's what I reckon! Oh I love it, I hope it goes well!!
I love how the organza brings everything together, it’s almost like over-dyeing all the scraps but it also protects everything from fraying at the same time! Very nice!!
The outer lime-tulle layer was such a smart idea! I've done patchwork stuff before but never thought of that and it really gives you two huge benefits over not including it; I love how it "contains" everything, so any fraying or unraveling over time wont cause catching on stuff and it creates a great unifying "filter" so you can really just use any fabric together and it will all blend. Thank you so much for sharing this project, I feel like you really opened my eyes and now I want to "tulle" something. Not sure what yet, but it's such a great idea!
Thank you so much! It does keep everything neat & contained - it's so ideal!! and yes I totally agree about the filter!! Good luck with your future projects!!
Carly!! I love that you are branching out to youtube. You are so creative, and overall just a rad and genuine person. Thank you for your joy and for sharing it with all of us
You sew girl! I love your recycle/reuse fabric scraps! Great for the environment and planet. I started using my scraps from quilting to make yardage for homemade teddy bears. now I can keep making yardage to make clothes. Fantastic idea!
so excited to see more from you here on youtube, love getting a glimpse of your wild creative process! plus the quality of the video is amazing, wouldn't have guessed this was your first video
This is so lovely & kind. Thank you for watching & appreciating the process!! ( hehe) My little brother helped me make it look all professional - all him!!
Hi Carly! Thank you for your video 🥰 I make pieces fabric also using this technique. The first time I made it using my wedding viel , over 120 years old. I love using embroidered vintage fabrics from table cloths, etc. I use whites, creams and pastels and the result is so lovely with the veil. I also place bits on top of the veil for even more added interest. I love your dress, very cute. This material is also great for bags.
Everything about this video was amazing 😍 Love all the close up shots and the camera angles and all the cuts were just the right amount of time ☺️👌🏻 This is definitely not first video vibes! Matt did an incredible job editing this tutorial too ☺️👌🏻
I absolutely love this tutorial!!! When you were finishing it up with the sleeves I was curious how it would come out. It looks fantastic. If you have time to go into detail how you did it that would be amazing!!
Its so great to see you expanding into a new medium! If you're taking video ideas it would be really cool to see you do something about how you draft patterns and where you get all these beautiful fabrics
I’m new at sewing , I’m currently working on a dress made from a button up shirt for my toddler , I would love to see a video of your machines. Also the dress is fantastic! I like the hints of sparkle from the scrap sparkle fabric and the color of the organza makes the dress look like it’s glowing. Amazing work , can’t wait for more! 💕
OMG you are beyond adorable and so talented! I don't know why or how the TH-cam algorithm brought me to you, but I'm so glad it did. I absolutely want to try this method of making fabric. It would amazing for sofa throw pillows as well as the bucket hat and jacket you suggested. Thank you for the vid. I will be spending today (Sunday) finding other vids you've done and following you everywhere on social media. Proud to be a fellow Aussie!
Aw thank you so much!! Thank you for watching! It absolutely would be - it's such an interesting and eye catching textile! Take care & thank you for taking the time to comment
Hey Carly, this dress 👗 is lovely and so are you. You are such an inspiration to me in my sewing journey. Now I’m going to search for your video about the Juki industrial. My late grandmother had one and I was always in love with looking at it but now on TH-cam when I see people using the Juki, the sewing sounds and looks very smooth, it’s very satisfying to watch so I dream of getting one some day 😄 love you content ❤
aw thank you so much!!! The sound is DELIGHTFUL from the Juki - one of my favourite functions besides the actual sewing quality and speed!! Thanks for watching
¡Hola! desde Mexico , que hermoso trabajo, me gusta mucho la costura solo que a veces me causa mucha frustración. Seguire en la lucha, gracias por compartir, me has inspirado mucho. 💫
So excited you are on TH-cam now!! Congratulations! 🥳 Thank you for sharing your process of making beautiful dresses! I love your style and your creative spirit! And I’d love to hear more about your industrial machine! 💚
Ellen! Thank you so much. Thanks for taking the time to watch too! I will absolutely rave on about the industrial machine very soon ( you don’t have to ask me twice haha!!)
I've followed you on instagram for quite some time and I love everything you make, so I hit the subscribe button in seconds 😊I love love love that you're promoting upcycling too and cannot wait to see more!!
id really love a video on how you self draft your patterns because im in love with everything you make and im so inspired but when it comes to drafting a pattern its like i get hit in the head with a coconut and have no idea what im doing 😭 gorgeous work 🫶🫶🫶
What a lovely video! Echoing some of the other comments here, the quality is so good I wouldn't have thought it was your first! Keen to follow your creative adventures in this new way 💕
I cannot wait for more!! I always wondered how you did these dresses and you've made it look so easy (although time consuming). The end result is amazing!!
I have discovered your channel through this video and am so excited!!! I absolutely love finding fellow Aussie sewing lovers and am really wanting to get into making more garments for myself this year so cannot wait to watch and support your channel!! Would love to know how you go about making patterns (if you do) or what brands you like using? Best wishes, Jemma x
Ah that is so cool! Thank you for clicking & taking the time to watch and comment. I will definitely do a video on this in the future! Although I mainly use my own patterns, some of my favourites are from Etsy (Hubbading & VikiSews are great) and DIY Daisy has a great book too!
heya! suuuper excited to see u here, when i first discovered your insta i was sad not to find you on youtube -- glad to see thats changed! loved this tutorial, super easy to follow along, except for how you made the bias tape and facing -- i am glad for the video's that you linked to and will def check them out, but i wouldve liked to see you go into just a liiiittle bit more detail, so that an intermediate sewer could sew along if they paid close enough attention to the video. I wouldn't want you to go into great detail, there are, indeed, seperate videos that already explain these things in detail, but a few more lingering shots on you making the bias tape wouldve been really helpful! right now its juuuust a bit too short for me to figure out what you were doing during those shots. anyway thats just a small thing, all and all im just super excited to see you here!
thank you so much for following along on Insta and now on TH-cam too! So kind. I did kind of speed through that part, I hope the linked videos help fill in the blanks. I'll try add more detail in future videos for sure. Thank you for the feedback!
I enjoy your content on instagram so much although I dont do sewing but your vibe is just so good and motivating! It really keeps me going for what im doing so im so thrilled to know you're now on TH-cam! Wohooo❤
Love it how the glitter patches glimmer in the light. Really beautiful dress and what a wonderful idea in general. Oh, and you seem to be such a cool, creative, kind and cheerful person, I just watched a few of your videos and immediately subscribed!
This video came up on my home page, so I thought I'd check it out, and I'm so glad I did! Had a look at your Insta as well; you are extremely talented, and I love how this dress turned out. Looking forward to seeing more content from you in the future. P.S You did so well with the filming and editing here!
I wonder if you were to use a type of interfacing, like a pf44, instead of the cotton back, to make it not as heavy 🤔 but I like how it has that corset effect to it
Ooh glad I came across your Chanel I think you will give me a lot of inspiration for my daughter, she has a quirky style too and loves sustainable clothing 😊 hope to see more 😊
Congratulations on making your first youtube video. I hope it won't be your last! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽P.S. A washable fabric glue stick might be really helpful when trying to place the various scraps instead of pins.
Please do tell us all about your Juki. It is MY DREAM MACHINE as well! How much was it? Where did you buy? Did you have o set it up? I am thinking of getting a used one.
The neckhole facing would show if she reversed it, but if instead of that she'd finished that and the bottom hem with bias tape as well, the dress would then be reversible, yes.

I was not expecting this to come together this well!!! It looks so good, especially with the top you paired it with.
Aw thank you so much!!
Just wondering if you ever did updates on this dress after washing and drying it? I would think it would be softer and not as stiff. I love this idea.
I would love to hear more about your sewing machines 😊
oooooh yes i will definitely do a video on this soon!
Would love to here more about the industrial & what the difference is❤️ so glad I can now watch your content on TH-cam aswell as instagram 🥰

Hello! Can you make a tutorial in making long skirts? Kindly include the pattern also. Thank you much! I hope you'll notice. ✨💓
This is genius!! What method is this called, if it has a name?
Ooh I have no idea!! I guess it's like a scrap sandwhich!!
What kind of material is the sheer outter fabric?
I used a sparkling organza but any sheer & lightweight fabric would work great. A lace or chiffon would be cool too!
@@fromcarlyb Thank you!
Where to get the pattern?
This pattern is self drafted but hopefully the video helps with the pattern making process a little bit!
In reality, you made a reversible dress, right?
The neckhole facing would show if she reversed it, but if instead of that she'd finished that and the bottom hem with bias tape as well, the dress would then be reversible, yes.
It's ugly.
You should've dyed it instead of putting that sheer fabric on top then it might have a chance.
Okay! Thanks for sharing that!
Si no es en español no me interesa
I love how the organza brings everything together, it’s almost like over-dyeing all the scraps but it also protects everything from fraying at the same time! Very nice!!
