Maybe acoustic guitar just lends itself better to soft vocals than yelling on electric guitar. Everything grohl does doesn't have to be psycho analyzed into him being influenced by Cobain you people are weird just let the man live without being reminded he was in nirvana

Who else is here from the new video of Dave explaining all this? Interesting to see the development. Never seen Dave sound so much like Kurt as he does here tbh.
The greatness of Kurt for sure. Like the beauty being in the simplicity of the riffs and the lyrics, the underlying deepness. But this was very much Dave Grohl, being Dave Grohl. It was a sad but optimistic song, and Kurt Cobain didn’t quite have that vibe.
This was from March 18, 1998 on the Howard Stern Show. A legendary performance that Howard asked him to try to do on the fly. Would have never happened without him. Thank you, Howard!!
He was originally going to play "for all the cows"; stern didn't like the sound of that and asked him to play one of his hits. Baba booey suggested everlong and Grohl decided to give it a shot.
This performance makes me feel such a visceral connection to the past and the future. I’m not explaining the sensation well, but I feel so old and so young at the same time. It makes me mad and sincerely at peace all at once. Thanks Dave.

Watching every video of theirs, after I’d already spent all day yesterday listening to them on a road trip with my best friend who also loves them. When that same friend told me around 10pm that Taylor was dead I just sobbed. Such a loss to the world of music, I’m lucky I got to meet them backstage in NYC at MSG in 2008 I believe. Taylor couldn’t have been nicer despite probably being exhausted. RIP Taylor.🖤
I remember when I first heard this on the radio. I was 19 years old , hung over and headed to work on the bus on a rainy morning. I had my head phones on and was drifting in and out of sleep. As soon as Grohl finished the song and Howard said wow that's great I woke up in time to get off at my stop. I remember walking into work wondering if I dreamt the acoustic version of everlong lol
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. And performed acoustically it's absolutely amazing. The song evokes real love, that feeling of shyness, yet excitement, like the first time for anything. It's a feeling that is so strong that you want it to last forever.
This is essentially the way Dave Grohl intimately let his emotions loose when he was writing this song. Its amazing to see such a huge song go back to its beautiful and blissful origins - a heartbroken guy dealing with a breakup and pouring those emotions into a song which would become Everlong.

@@haroof Same
Video has been up for 2 and a half years, never had a dislike. Then you make a comment like that basically asking for it. Now 5 dislikes in a month. Good job pal!!
Rest In Peace Taylor . You will forever be missed :(
Baba booey deserves credit for this. He suggested everlong after Howard couldn't name a song for them to play.
Baba Booey that's Tata Toothy.
So handsome. “Gotta promise not stop when I say when.” 🥰
“I’ve never had to do this acoustic” we need more talent in music these days, true musician right here. The acoustic version of this is my favourite song.
And just like that... a classic was reborn
This was and still such a great performance
Holy moly that just blessed my ears up
He also said he wrote the song on acoustic so I doubt this is his first time doing this song acoustic. It's my favourite acoustic version of a Foo song though, I love it.
Agreed! He probably meant that this was maybe his first time playing it live like this. :)
@@shanecorcoran8225 I think first time in this tuning.
It's pretty obvious he didn't write it on the piano.
He just released a story on the song and confirmed this was his first time playing it on acoustic.
@@PedrosGarage Pretty sure that was mentioned on the show.
I remember listening to this live on the radio and just being in awe of DG. just goes to show that magic had always occurred on the howard stern show, proving all the naysayers wrong
I remember dloading this off limewire and realizing it wasn't the studio recording. Fell in love with it and it's the best version of the song ever recorded.
LOOOL at 1:38
That background before the breakdown.
Edit: but seriously, I heard this live when he did it on Stern on the school bus on my Walkman on the way to high school. Thank you thank you thank you for bringing this back to me, what a time
That's actually pretty cool! 👀
Excuse me, do you know what exactly Dave say at the 0:04?
@@stephenblack6454
I think Dave said, "first time," meaning that he never played it on acoustic guitar before. This is the opening conversation as I heard it:
Grohl: Oh, this'll be interesting.
Stern: Yeah, see if you can --
Grohl: I've never had to do this acoustic.
Stern: Alright, well let's try it.
Grohl: First time.
(song starts)
Cheers, my friend! Hope that helps. 🙏
My heart aches for the 90's and early 2000's.
I found this track on a mini disk my dad burned back in the 00s. 1/2 is Jimmy Buffet and the rest is gold. This was the last track on the disc and it hit me like a bus.
This and Times Like These acoustic are amazing!! ❤️
Just like the recording!
And just like that... a classic was reborn
This has no dislikes. Let’s keep it that way.
why did you comment other people’s comments word for word lol
milxss look through the comments. They all are.
