Hi Elena! Thank you so much for being vulnerable and sharing your week 🫂 As a person diagnosed with adhd, and wondering if I’m also on the spectrum, this was so valuable. The way you described your life experiences is so similar to my own. I’d love to see more content like this ❤

I never felt so understood. Geeeeez. Those years of being undiagnosed and/or diagnosed poorly (often times misdiagnosed) are for me somehow lost. All my struggle seem to be clear now, these are just autistic traits and now it’s time to get to know real me…

I can't stand to be sweaty after a run, I run to the shower and you were able to film 😅😊

Thanks for sharing. I agree with you volunteering is a great confidence builder in terms of employment. I have volunteered before and really enjoyed the experience. Had a temporary job recently that I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by a great colleague and a really nice workplace. The job itself with anything interesting but the people made it really experience. I’ve been thinking about reaching out to one of my old colleagues and see if he would be open to my doing some volunteering in a creative writing capacity of the organization, I’ve been debating it but you’re words about your volunteer experience make me think that maybe I will give it a try.

Asperger's includes superpowers. Identify your superpowers. Aspies have qualities highly sought after.
I have so enjoyed following you over the past decade, watching you grow, from teens to 20's. I missed you when you disappeared for half a year. Then to learn you're aspie like me.
You like helping people become the best version of themselves. That's a special gift. The world needs you.

Your more filmic videos have always been wonderful! There is nothing 'imperfect' to cut out, since seeing the raw cut of what life is like for you is totally the way to go :) I absolutely love these style of videos from you, especially your videos on your 'autistic' house from a while back :)
On a more serious note: it seems you had some week of people giving you grief about autism across social media, and even in real life, yeah? I was a bit worried about that over the past few days actually, and I hope those comments didn't have too much of a negative impact on you. A lady in the comments of your last video said to me that the #1 thing for us neurotypicals to do in this societal effort to bridge the gap between us is to "stop the bullying and stop going along with it". Your friend waiting for you to give the guy you were talking with a correction is a fairly common thing poeple do, but if I could give your friend advice, it would be for him/her to intervene, at the very least because you don't like conflict. We neurotypicals probably can also explain things more succinctly in the moment, helping to get these people to see the reality of autism. On that note: it is absolutely worth setting asside any anger or resentment and trying to reach out to people and show them a better way. In my experience, If they don't come around after 2-3 back and forths, then they are lost. Of course 'how' an autistic person can approach this is another story, but I just wanted to convey that sentiment for now :)
That being said, I have so much more to learn from you of course, but what I know now is enough to explain to people who don't understand, be it "you don't look autistic", or otherwise :) I am so grateful for your videos the past few months, especially since I was in the camp of "Well you don't look autistic" when you made your announcement video on it a few years ago. Boy! the feeling I have of knowing how wrong I was lol
I have to ask though: What is the proper way to refer to autistic people then? I thought 'on the spectrum' was the proper way. Also, I have heard the label "has the 'tisms" before used in an endearing way, but I have to ask if it is considered a slur?
On you returning to a place where you have a lot of bad memories, and feeling uncomfortable: that is totally normal. It is a trauma thing, and is quite common in people with PTSD. If you ever want some help with that or know more about it, feel free to ask me, or you could reach out to that community :)
On following the rules of the road: Yes please share your thought processes! :) It REALLY helps us neurotypicals understand things. Another thing to give thanks to you again for bringing awareness to all of this is that I saw a video the other day of a autistic person talking about how "if - then" decision making is hard for autistic people. It was really interesting, and enlightening! I deal with process design in my career, so I could try to explain why rules are broken sometime if you like? For now, I think a rough and simple explanation is that there are a lot of rules that are IMPLIED (yes that thing you all have a difficult time seeing and understanding) and simply aren't mentioned. For example: it is implied that you will do something for self-preservation and it would be ok to run a red light if you need to avoid danger, and running the light would be 'safer' to do. Sometimes people ignore the rules for no reason, and othertimes people just make mistakes.
There is sooooo much more in this video which would be fun to talk about, but I hope some of what I said might help you or other people who come across here :)

This is so relatable, but I’m not diagnosed because I can’t afford it and healthcare doesn’t listen.

@@Taoscape Thankyou, I’ve been down so many routes and no one will listen, there was a minimum 4 year wait list but they took me off it for some reason

    • @Taoscape
      @Taoscape 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@RyantankerYeah waiting lists are bad these days. For that reason I would appeal the decision to take you off the list. Again I am not sure where you are, but I am in Canada, and that sort of thing is appealable here. We can also file a human rights complaint against the health authority too (which would be free of charge for us to do). Hopefully you could do something like that if all else fails.
Hopefully you get some better luck!

I wish I had found this and you 10 years ago. But I am SO grateful you are doing this , thank you. It's like you are describing my life and my daily struggle to a T. Whatever this 'version' or 'level ' of autism is , I have it too. Thank you Elena really.

Unemployed autistic female is a description of me now. And it's frustrating a lot, but a relief too because I can restore from casual burnout that I get from jobs. Yet volunteering was a lifesaver for me too. Some days feel better than others, some are just for chores, and others for the rain like today in Kyiv. I'm just restoring myself in the solitude of my home, not pretending that it's fine. Elena, thank you for your honesty and openness, I feel you and really can relate as I had most of that experiences myself.
