A beautiful exposed spot - reminds me of the Outer Hebrides. Great to see the orchids and yellow rattle surviving, despite being blasted by the salt air. And more to those walls than meets the eye! They'd be considered very wrong up here in Northern England, but they work and stand the test of time - made by skilled, resourceful people with limited materials. And I've never seen boats like those - again a workmanlike design fit for the conditions! All these things and the past stories they tell. The working heavy horse was a gem.
Never been to the Outer Hebrides and would love to go. Yes it is truly stunning out there, and the trip out to the islands is amazing as well along the coast. You see the Cliffs of Moher as well as you sail! Glad you enjoyed this one mate.
Hi Colin... great video, amazing pictures. Thanks for sharing. I agree to your philosophy one camera (M11), one lens (50 Summilux) to catch the essentials. Looking forward to see more of your work. Udo
I hope you subscribed, noticed a lot watch and are not subscribers but come back anyhow. How’s the 50 lux, bit of a goldilocks lens? Stop it down it’s like a cron, portraits open it up. I’m eyeing the 35 lux for the distant future!! How’s the m11? Where you based?
I have the exact same setup - the M10R with a 28 and a 50 mm ! Great combination but alas due to ill health recently unable to use them. So this was really nice to see your outdoor adventures with them. thanks for sharing !
Hope you get well soon and can use your setup mate. I’m really glad you enjoyed this video. I’ve plenty more adventures on the way so hopefully you enjoy those too. What Country do you call home? Keep in touch
Thanks Kirk. I changed the thumbnail to the wreck in the end as for me it's sort of something you even see as yoru approach the Island. :) Hope you're well there. it's getting cold? you been out with the M-P recently? Cheers
@@colinosullivan yes just watched it and commented too. Good idea to be somehow an historian taking pictures of scenes which will disappear. I am very impressed by the quality of your Leica III. I just bought one (I think older that your one). I need to test it and buy a light meter.
Thanks for visiting. Oh it really is, as j said in one of the other comments. You need the weather but we got very lucky. Makes it even more special. I could see myself spending a few weeks or months there sometime. Magic
Beautiful captures Colin. Gateways is so good for the soul. I really like those captures of the ship especially in black and white. It transcends such an historical mood. Thank for sharing your vision. ✌
Thanks buddy. Well your black and whites inspire, so here you go ;). Glad you enjoyed it. A late post but slowly getting through the archived video footage from a chaotic summer. ;) Next up Seville!!!!
Thanks Vincent. I’m glad you enjoyed it. It was a lovely weekend and some much needed down time. Hopefully the chilled vibe came across. Special places.
Lovely work, Colin. I thought the framing on the videos of the fields and walls was particularly good. Lots of converging diagonals. Hoping to get out to the islands myself some day.
It is a fantastic Island. Easiest to get to (closest to the mainland) and yeah I mean the bike is the way to go if you can manage it. I mean we struck gold with the weather! The forecast was mixed and it ended up being spectacular really. I can only imagine it in a storm!
Thanks and I’m glad you enjoy the lack of slow motion, rock Music and drone footage hahaha. It gives you a chance to see a location maybe as it really is. 😬🙏
Randomly bumped into your channel from TH-cam recs. Really enjoying the way you've put these together. I'm across the pond in New York City, where the setting is just a the most stark contrast. That said, your videos somehow feel how I feel when I walk in the city. Something about the peace of being where you feel like you belong, maybe? Either way, look forward to going through all your videos over the next few weeks!
I’m so glad you enjoyed this video. Definitely subscribe as a few fun videos on the way. New York City is a special place and can’t wait to go back. I think your right, when it’s me and the camera I always feel I belong no matter where I am. 🙏 I hope you enjoyed some of the other videos. A video from Seville tomorrow and a couple from Austria on the way. Cheers ☘️
Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed it. It’s a nice spot and it’s rare to get it in such amazing weather. Right now it’s be a different story with amazing storms.
Hi Colin, love the video and love the West of Ireland, although I haven't made it to the Arran islands yet. I agree the one camera one lens approach, i use an M10, but usually 2 lenses! Can you tell me what software you use for your B&W conversions on the M11? as they look great.
I'm glad you've enjoyed it. I've a few more from the west on the channel if you subscribe. :) The M10 is superb, I am using the M10-R right now. yeah I had the 28 but I think I only stuck it on for a couple of interesting portraits not in this video. :) I am using Lightroom classic, the latest version, I tend to just switch over to back and white and then make some minor adjustments. I almost never spent more than a couple of minutes on a photo unless it's a one I intend to physically print or put in a personal zine. What lesnes do you shoot if you don't mind me asking. I'm glad you liked the B&W. I find those stone walls lend themselves to it. Thanks for stopping by. I've a nice video from Seville next weekend if you're interested. Cheers
Lovely video Colm - I’ve recently moved to Galway so I really should take a trip out to the islands one day. What am I doing with my camera? Mostly walking up and down shop street snapping whomever/whatever interests me. Your video has inspired me though to get out in to nature and try something different.
I’m always glad if I can inspire to head out onto nature. I do a lot of people / life photography and I think it’s also fascinating, it’s just a little harder to shoot videos in places like that when can’t leave the video camera away from me safely! Very lucky to be in Galway.
Good morning Anders, Thanks for watching firstly and I hope you sub. for the last 13 years I've used the same lenses. My two main lenses and what you saw in this video are my two Zeiss lenses. A Zeiss zm Planar T* 50mm f2. Basically Zeiss' answer to the 50 cron! And a Zeiss ZM Biogon 28mm f2.8. Which is Zeiss answer to the Elmarit 28mm. Except the Zeiss can focus down to 0.5m if needed. Both are amazing lenses. for years I have looked at some other lenses. I'm in the market for a solid 35mm. A cron, summilux (but it's a bit pricey) or Voightlander ultron f2 or the LLL 8 element 35mm. I do have a Voigtlander version 1 of their 35mm 1.2 which to me makes stunning images due to it's not perfect rendering. I sort of think I'm more into character lenses now as I age ;) I hope this helps. Can I ask you waht you shoot now?
@@andersphansson M11 would be amazing but as a user of the M10-R I would say it's more camera than most need! Pretty amazing and very reliable as it was at the end of the M10 run.
Well even for those not religious at all the old Irish sayings have a nice ring to them. ;) hope you enjoyed the video. Another one on the way next weekend so subscribe :)
Thanks for stopping by, I’m using the Zeiss zm planar f2 50mm. I guess you could call it the zeiss answer to the sumimicron! I’ve had my copy for 13 years and it’s had some crazy usage and still perfect. Hope this helps.
Thanks for watching. Good feedback, I’ll have to rewatch this one. Possibly because this trip came at a time when chilling and relaxing was the priority. Hope you check out some of the other videos. Cheers
Wow ; lovely rugged place , and peaceful ... No cars 😌 quiet ... .♥
Yes, properly amazing. Found a nice cozy pub as well and having a pint there on a stormy evening would be pretty epic. I'll be back!
