      Cheers mate. Indeed I love this camera. Given the age of them you make be advised to talk to Leica classic stores in wetzlar or Vienna as they often service and add a 12 month warranty on items which gives you some protection. Also I’d it works for the first 12: months it’ll likely stay going. Hope you come back for my new videos on the way. Cheers

      Hi Luke, firstly thanks for taking the time to comment. Glad you enjoyed this one. I love this quiet remote spot and I might head back up there again now autumn has come around. Well the M8 is a wonderful camera , I’m using the M8.2 here. Same just black paint and slightly quieter shutter. Given the age of the M8 I’d suggest getting this from a reputable wherever you are based, usa? Keh camera, in Europe the Leica classic stores offer a cla and short warranty. Let me know if you do it. I absolutely love my m8.2 and even though I’ve the m10r as well the m8.2 has a special place in my heart given my trips around the world with it.

    Oh aye, you're right - just like Northumberland! In fact those looked like two of my sheep at 2.15! Reet hell on if they get in the Sitka (fleeces get caught up on the branches). Well, I thought that fence photo was very good - I have a bit of a thing for a fence (and drystone wall) pic! The low winter light often works in B&W. A hint of warmth in the morning/evening brings out the colour in the decaying grasses, bog and moss and that can work in either or BW (just enough tonal variety). But not a lot you can do when the sun won't climb into a plantation! Blaaack!

    Great Music. great Video, great Camera! If I use mine for BnW Shoot, I use only UV Filter (to protect my frontlens) but not use a UV IR Filter. It increases the BnW photos in my opinion.
    Have fun to shoot with the great m8.2!

    • @colinosullivan

      I totally agree with the filter mate. 👍 uv only and it sings. I love throwing on my imperfect 35mm 1.2 and just shooting black and white! It’s truly magic. So cool you have one! Mine had a shutter issue so in for repair. Using a m10r in recent videos but I can’t wait until o get it back later in the year. I’ve a fun video on the way roaming the back country lanes appreciation of our hawthorn trees. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but come back and check it out. 🙏

      @@colinosullivan your shuttersound in this Video sounds perfect to me. Hope you’ll get the m8.2 back as soon as possible. Mine does actually not sound so smooth by turning the shutter back in position. It sounds a Little bit slower as it used to in earlier days. After a few pictures the sound is better. That are some issues belonging to the age of the m8.2 I think. The m8/m8.2 has some great abilities; Infrared, BnW and CCD Color like an old Kodak Film. Great Camera until now.

      Ireland sure is scenic, I mean it's been stormy for the last 6 weeks straight but I guess that's why they call it the "wild" Atlantic. :) What country are you from? I'm glad you like the commentary, it takes some getting used to but as I did my commentary while I was shooting there it made it a lot easier to add it in as, well I was just chatting as I shot! I think it's the ideal way to do it when you can! I'm editing the next video which is long overdue now. Curious, did the shutter sounds annoy you at all, as I had feedback on my Vienna video it was too loud?

      @colinosullivan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Roger. It surely is. I think actually people at the time obsessed with a true full frame maybe looked past some of its abilities. It demands a little patience but it's a wonderful camera. it somehow managed to still feel very mechanical (for a digital). I am 95% done on a video of Vienna in the snow which will probably go live tonight. It took a while to cut as I had to develop 5 rolls of film, scan etc. I think it was worth it. hope you enjoy it. Cheers, C

    I noted the hot mirror filter on your Zeiss lens, which is perfect for color, but have you experimented with B&W without the filter? The additional spectral response to red and near-IR can give some special results in B&W.

    • @colinosullivan
      @colinosullivan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea for about 8 years I never used the IR cut and I often did black and white conversions. On fairness it was always great. I always thought it made my shots off the DSLR that had cmos sensor and antialiasing filter look like dirt. I have standard uv filters for protection instead of these ir cut filters when I know I’m gonna shoot black and white.

    • @LeicaM82
      @LeicaM82 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Likely with your 8 years using the M8 you’ve also tried using an IR-pass filter to take near-IR pictures. I bought a couple of the vintage Leica IR filters to experiment with that thread and was encouraged by the results, albeit for B&W. The false-color IR is less pleasing.

      Alan. I’m various curious about the m240 for the slightly lower light improvements, also tjsy sonnar looks amazing for portrait’s. This was shot on the zeiss zm biogon 28 f2.8. Small and sharp. I quite like it. Of course on the m 8 it’s a a 35mm equivalent so for you on the m240 it’s a true 28mm. I’d like to try some Leica glass when I get the chance. A 21mm super elmar 🙏

    Stupid question about to get the same set-up. Is the IR filter just for BW shooting?

    • @colinosullivan
      @colinosullivan  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi mate, there are no stupid questions. :) so the M8 / M8.2 came with a very thin Infrared filter over the sensor. It led to some interesting side effects! That being in colour photos the green turn sort of yellowy. Also Black synthetic clothing like coats look magenta! or a purple tint! so to get more standard colours people tend to put on an IR Cut filter. However, if you know you are trying to shoot black and white you should leave off the filter! The reason being is IR light behaves differently to visible light, materials that absorb or reflect IR light strongly appear very bright in the final image. It can happen with say leaves or trees or water. Also I find skin tones look better on the M8.2 as I think maybe the IR light smoothens out blemishes and skin for whatever reason. I always find in my landscapes on the M8.2 that the distant hills and mountains are stunning. I think maybe the haze isn't picked up. So I guess you could do this, Colour put on the IR cut filter. Black and white use a standard UB filter just to protect your lens! I hope this helps explain it a bit!

    Greetings from Wicklow. Really enjoying your videos making me keen to get out more with my aging M8. Sorry to hear about your shutter issue hope the bill from Germany isn’t too painful. By the way what tripod do you use? I’ve an aging manfrotto that’s too heavy for the hills so looking to replace it. Regards John

    • @colinosullivan
      @colinosullivan  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi John, Apologies for the VERY late reply here! I usually try to reply to everyone as soon as comments come in as you've made the effort to stop by and tune in! My apologies. I think the key to not getting this issue with the shutter was to shoot more often on it! Sounds counter intuitive. but I left my M8.2 idol for quite some time when I was shooting exclusively film on my Leica M4! and I believe like any old object, use it to keep the parts moving! I use a carbon legged manfrotto and basically for our wind down here in Cork which is constant it seems these days, I just throw my camera back over it sometimes to stabilise it. I do have another larger video tripod and it's carbon but it's a beast!
