      Compared to Fallout 4 this place is nothing. In Fallout 4 not only do the Children Of Atom have the Bomb Impact Site and the surrounding Glowing Sea, but they also have the Nucleous and the majority of the Far Harbour.
      This place is child's play in comparison.

    This site is almost certainly based on the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in New Mexico. WIPP receives medium level transuranic waste (mostly clothing and materials contaminated with plutonium from weapons work) and buries it in caverns excavated from salt. Over time, the caverns will slowly collapse, burying the waste in a matter that should keep it out of the biosphere. There are miners on site constantly digging new tunnels in the salt. During the time that FO76 was in development there was a couple of incidents at WIPP including a partial roof collapse in one of the waste cells and a fire in in one of the machines used for mining the salt, which may have been the inspiration for this site. So far there have no been any fatalities at the actual WIPP plant.

    Say what you want about FO76 and its lack of NPCs, but it is an absolute master class in environmental storytelling. In what other game can you read so much from the clues left behind. I've been to this location a dozen times working on my mutations, and never thought to find out what happened, not to mention tie it to the West-Tek experiments.

      There is something to be said that you had visited this site dozens of times and not until the story was painstakingly dredged out of the minutiae you even realized there even was a story being told there.
      How good is the storytelling, environmental or otherwise if you can't tell it exists without sending an exploration team ready to do a forensic archeological study to figure out what it was?
      I'll answer my own question, it's garbage. A hot, smelly dumpster fire of rotting garbage. It's the joke that needs ten minutes of explication after the punchline for anyone to get it,.. It's grandpa's rambling storytelling that jumps from subject to subject, time period to half forgotten memory. It is the lamest, weakest barest shell of a story you can possibly have and still call it such. Every upended garbage can will tell you something about the people who filled it,... It doesn't make it compelling or good. It's just a curious heap of garbage. Try not to get any on your shoes,..

    Maybe the smell of burning body’s would attract attention. West tek is on top of a mountain so the smell would flow down into the valley causing a ruckus and bringing the news to the source and replacing the news isn’t viable because people would notice. So disposing of them by barrel with toxic waste would give them cover and allow them to replace the workers if any fell out of line. It’s smart but also horrible! So I’m glad the apocalypse happened in the fallout universe we’re the only bad things from the old world are the undetonated bombs/ rads and super mutants and some ghouls

    • @Oglush1
      @Oglush1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not only would the smell attract unwanted attention, burning the bodys would have been a waste of rather unique materials that could be hard to come by. I mean one town beeing poisoned... Sure that could have been a freak accident if it ever came out to the public, but two towns raise more questions than Westtek was willing to answer.

    I was quite lower level when I went in there and quite proud of sneaking around and getting the mole miners when finally got to the bottom, I was not in power armor either and the Death Claw burst out of the ground. I embarrassingly admit I screamed like a child and was nearly torn to bits before I managed to run like a feral on jet up the crawl space side passage. Once I managed to change my underwear I then realised my ammo was low, my main heavy weapon of a gatling gun was broken and all I had left was some shotguns from the miners. Yeah that fight took me about an hour lol

      @@miafillene4396 I have to say that since this versions introduction back in FO4 they really did a good job on not only the overall look but its mannerisms as well. Unlike with FO3 and NV where they would just run up to you smacking their claws together like they are giving you a standing ovation, these ones act like a real powerful and terrifying creature, jinking side to side as they run at you, clawing dirt and rocks before grabbing and holding you up and roaring in your face. They are great to watch, preferably from more than minimum safe distance. They are definitely one of my favourite monsters.

      @@Kross8761 i actually feel both of you are right. the government was cheap and west-tek wanted to make as much money as possible. However nuclear waste can't be burned safely and i believe it is the same with FEV. It builds off of radiation and due to the rads you get from it i can all but guarantee that the corpses of those victims were radioactive as well. If that is the case then burning the bodies would indeed spread radiation to a gigantic area of the US due to it also getting into the water cycle and food supply and could have potentially spread FEV in a completely uncontrolled manner

    I’m guessing that they were not incinerated to avoid making the FEV airborne since they would have no idea what it would do in that form, if anything. One thing I know is that West Tech was keen on infecting others, not themselves, so they chose a site they knew would collapse so the evidence and that “batch” of FEV would be buried. Great Vid! Oxhorn, I think them being fired would be a blessing in the Fallout world. Normally for complaining about military or government places tended to have you classed as "Anti American" or a "Communist Sympathiser". So that will either be sent to have your brain taken out for a robo brain, FEV experimentation, other medical experimentation, sent to Big mountain for various other experimentation or simply disappeared.

  • @Foreststrike
    @Foreststrike 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I mean... Vault 87 had incinerator rooms for FEV strains... why did West-Tek skimp on incinerators? Budget problems or were their funds being diverted to the construction of Vault 87?
    But then again, West-Tek WV didn't need incinerators because of its' original design purpose: Exposing plant life to the Virion Project.
    They were only equipped with rooms that could incinerate plant life, not human life. Which means they had to dispose of their test subjects SOMEHOW when they switched over to FEV.
    I guess they never expanded to include an incinerator room, which again, leads to probable budget cuts to divert funds to Vault 87, or any Vault that experimented with FEV.

    It’s story telling like this that Bethesda is really good at. Ox really gave me an even greater appreciation for the Fallout games by going to each area and really diving deep into the lore. Fallout 76 was certainly not up to expectations but in some places, Bethesda has done a great job with the lore and the way the story is conveyed, hopefully this element is carried over into Fallout 5 and beyond, and attention is given to other aspects that the fan base isn’t so keen on.

If they burned the bodies the FEV would be in the air and when it rained where ever it fell people would get affected and there would have been no way to predict where the rain fell to then quarantine the people affected

  • @LairdWackyla
    @LairdWackyla 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm guessing that perhaps they were worried about the traces FEV in the super mutants being released with the incinerator's smoke.
    remember in fallout 1 the glow was directly hit by an atomic bomb, yet the FEV still survived that level of heat, and in doing so it became airborne.

    "Since when did they burrow?"
    Fallout 4. There is that deathclaw you encounter when you're helping out Preston take care of the raiders very early in the main questline. Though I think that's the only example of them digging themselves into and out of the ground in that game.
    Honestly if they were made to do it more, it'd add a whole new layer of fear to the games. Mirelurks popping out of the ground is bad enough but Deathclaws? It'd make me more hesitant to explore.

    This is unrelated to Emmett Mountain Disposal Site; but I was scavenging in Harpers Ferry and came across a mystery that drove me crazy all night. I found the body of a vault dweller on a couch (couldn't see the number on the jumpsuit) and another body across from her. They seem to have shot each other, but with no explanation to who they were or what happened. But what really peaked my interest, I could hear "Hail to the Chief" playing in a loop. I couldn't find a radio. I checked the radio frequencies on my pip-boy... nothing there. I tried to follow the sound. The loudest "sweet spot" was outside in the middle of the street (I believe it was Washington Street). And that's it. Dead End. Is this part of a quest I haven't started yet? Has anyone else found mystery music playing from nowhere? What's going on here?

    Logically, with the number of people infected with FEV from West Tek, incinerating bodies leaves quite an obvious trail from both the smell of burning body parts as well as the vast amount of smoke generated which would have raised a lot more questions. By disguising the body parts as toxic waste barrels, not only are they buried meaning easy disposal, but nobody would be stupid enough to actually open the sealed barrels and reveal what was truly inside for as far as they knew, opening the barrels meant serious radiation risks meaning hiding super mutant bodies in waste barrels was a lot more discreet an option.

      vore_master_77 you may need an older version of Windows OS to run it, a game that old (probably) wouldn't recognize windows 10 as a Windows OS because the architecture is so different from the operating system it runs on.

  • @Jarethenator
    @Jarethenator 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would assume they are being dumped as opposed to burned because they are probably a bit radioactive. And if you're going to incinerate that much it's going to require quite the operation and quite the smokestack, which would put a lot of radioactive particulates into the air...not that people in the Fallout world seem to care about such things from a humanitarian/environmental perspective, more so that would become a pretty noticeable operation.

    This might be a long shot, but this may be a reference to 1985's "Return of the Living Dead" as the government might be afraid of burning the Super Mutant bodies in fear of spreading the FEV via airborne gas much like what occurs in RotLD, as well as, the body parts found in the barrel being a nod to the infamous Tarman of the movie. Granted there's no ingame lore to suggest the government was afraid of burning FEV bodies, but the movie does start with a "government experiment gone wrong" that was put into barrels to be buried but were accidentally shipped to a medical facility, where two poor workers stupidly opened the barrel.

  • @ericnox2069
    @ericnox2069 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's all a part of the FEV/Super mutant experiment. You said it yourself, studying the long term effects of radiation and passive FEV exposure. Seeing if the change in method and random nature of the disposal could produce better strains or ones with less negative effects.

  • @totoro1381
    @totoro1381 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think maybe they didn't incinerate the body's as to not draw suspension. The need to vent off the fumes would cause a terrible smell, and eventually raised suspision once people started going there and then not coming back.

  • @adamlewellen6612
    @adamlewellen6612 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A possibility why the company desposed of the super mutant bodys there in a way a win win situation one they get rid of the parts and in time the area around it would cave in as planed it would be cheaper just to dump the parts then to burn them and they could study how the parts reacted to the radiation and how it would efect the workers as well.
