In Re: the Responders and forgiveness, I would like to share a real world incident that happened in Oxhorn's home town of Seattle about a week ago.
Two firefighters responded on an ambulance to a call for a patient on drugs. When they were with the patient he flipped out and assaulted them, beating both quite badly and breaking one firefighter's ribs. The patient then went into a state of excited delirium and suffered a cardiac arrest. Those two firefighters, one of them with broken ribs, then performed CPR on the patient and saved his life.
I think that says all you need to know about what real responders would do.
What a waste. He probably killed 3 people by now for drug money.

Really sad to see the game is still buggy. But Bethesda never fixed any of there games, its always modders that fix em. To bad they didn't hire a few to fix it for them.

I'm really amazed that nobody else managed to survive in Appalachia. I know that the game was designed like that, in order to allow players freedom. But the lore and the choices that many people made astonishes me. I too would consider a cave for a good settlement. But the inherent dangers that converged in the surroundings made it a deathtrap and a harsh place to live. That's what saddens me most: that despite their beliefs and plans, almost everybody perished for them. The few rest that survived, became literally inhuman monsters, not capable of reason.
metalchono notes indicate that ghouls left in order to join a community they heard was forming in a museum in Washington. I wouldn’t be shocked if many regular humans left in search of a better place to live after the people around them got the plague.

I'll be honest I liked that part. I hate on horror movies and the like when the characters do obviously stupid things. When the characters are smart make good calls and still die that's a better setting and story. At least to me.
The half sunken church in Charleston has a coffin with pastor vestments and a note saying "these aren't mine anymore, may they bring you the comfort I've lost. -R" first note from R as far as I can tell
while the main quest can seem pretty lackluster if you just plow through it, the environmental stories really flesh it out with meaning. More of a "this is how we got here, now see it through" narrative. it's a plus for those who seek it but i get the letdown in those who don't. personally i like the puzzle-like nature of the 'whole story", IMO.

To be honest I skimmed over the journal pages when I first found them... I feel stupid now for missing so much lore. So thank you for covering this place! Can't wait for you to do the Brotherhood as a whole in 76.
Issac is Issac Garrahan, either son or maybe a weird uncle of the family. (I think son. Wasn't Penny Hornwright implied to be enamoured of the Garrahan heir?) It's implied, in my opinion, by the chemistry station with chemistry station workbench plan (as if a beginner/amateur hobbyist had taken it up) near the cages that the Mega Sloth didn't just evolve randomly, but Issac held up his promise of 'protecting' them by making sure they could survive in the post-apocalypse. I think, speculating from the types of mobs that spawn, the Hornwright's were killed by the miner riots the day of/days just before the nukes fell (hence the Strikebreakers that spawn in Hornwright estate) with someone portion of the family escaping to the Summer estate. The Garrahan's survived the apocalypse and went ghoul along with their staff. Issac clearly went a bit off somewhere in between and started experimenting to save his pet sloths.
And yeah, I think the copy of the tape at Big Bend is an error, but it MIGHT be explainable by saying Issac had to get his sloths from Garrahan Estate to the Mire at some point.

You made a small mistake at 3:16. The terminal entry "Big bend off limits" is dated BEFORE the terminal entry where she sends fire breathers.
Fun Fact! I LOVE trains, and West Virginia is rich in railroad history, and still full of trains today! Big Bend Tunnel is a real tunnel!! It's inactive today, but it was formerly operated by the N&W, and it carried trains to the mines!!
I tend to feel that anyone who genuinely regrets their negative actions to the point where they would avoid doing the same again is already redeemed.

Killing a thousand people and feeling bad about it doesn't redeem you. I get what you're saying, but there's a limit.
Pretty sure those two entries at the beginning from melody are in the opposite order of what oxhorn presumed. First they figured out big bend was dangerous and declared it off limits, THEN they sent in the team at a later date to clear it out. The wording on the notes makes much more sense that way.

Nice lore vid that ties together some of the different factions. I wish there was some timeline of the in-game events for Fallout 76. A lot of stuff happened, but it’s hard to put everything together into one coherent flow.
Thank you for doing lore videos on this despite many not being interested in the game. I don’t have the ability to explore the games myself, so its always a treat and makes my day when you post lore. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say we’re thankful that you didn’t skip this because of its bad publicity. Once again, thanks.

As soon as I heard of the flood I started trying to figuring out what happened. Now I wanna know how robot rose exists she’s obviously based off human rose. David must have been a bit off. (I totally could have missed something it happens!!)
I found it intriguing that despite supposedly not having any visual or audio link to you while you're inside she cancels the final quest just before/as you would see the body and realize that Roslyn wasn't killed by the Responders but instead died in the flood if you looked any closer. I feel like there's a missing moment in there where she realizes Roslyn was captured and puts two and two together, and somehow that realization is the real reason she decides not to screw you over.
LowbrowDeluxe I really hope they add to her story. It seems like they will due to how she speaks to you. But I feel there is more story with a lot of the factions. I’m curious about several named people I can’t find bodies for too. Jeff Nakamura, the husband of the mistress of mystery frank?, and several others. I can find most bodies but they don’t have one (I’ve even checked the wiki.). I’m thinking they (and the overseer) will return in Wastelanders. Makes sense. Nuke the scorched, nuclear winter, wastelanders return. (Fingers crossed).
@@meelia6214 Nathan I'm willing to bet is planned for future content if they get a chance. He falls out of the story too completely for a character in a Bethesda game. They don't always close every story arc completely, but he just sort of disappears entirely when his reaction to his daughter destroying his wife's life work and then killing her seems kind of...big. My pet theory is that he'll show up as the first Mechanist in some future content patch, based on his gadgeteering, and with a real mad-on against raiders.
Missing Frank really bugged me. He's so prominent in the holotapes, but as the order begins to crumble, he just disappears. What happened to him? It is never explained.

That poor man probably first believed that he survived what was basically the rapture, saw the lowest and highest points of humanity and the collective human spirit, then watched as "evil men" prevailed despite the hope the survivors had.

The Christmas flood is one of the most interesting recent events in fallout 76 to me. I found myself checking out the entire dried lake bed.
I am kind of upset Bethesda doesn't ever put a M1 Garand and it's progeny into their games, the original Springfield Armory went out of business in the 70s so I doubt copyright would still be an issue

Hey Ox, just wanted to say I particularly appreciate the 76 lore content. The first Fallout was the first game I stayed up all night playing, and I comb through them for every little crumb, but with 76, I never feel like I can do that because of the multiplayer nature of it. This video in particular was one I was hoping for from you, because I only found two notes when I was around level 30, stuck my head out the other side, had a pack of level 68 scorched waiting, and ran away. Given that everyone is sadly dead in game, it lends itself well to your methodological approach, so I appreciate you taking the time to cover the lore. Looking forward to the main story videos, particularly the Brotherhood stuff. Thanks again, keep it up!

Carol’s remorse and desire to seek forgiveness lead her to gaining her deserved redemption when fighting the Scorched.
I was here once with one of my characters and at the time I was only level 18. Luckily I was on a team, but I still died a lot.
Thank you for more FO76 lore, Ox. This was an area even I hadn't explored much (Due to a misadventure at a MUCH lower level).
It's what I like watching best, but at least I don't go to OTHER videos and moan about "where's the coverage for (insert game here)?" like so many others do...
I think it's what Responders do. They probably would have been pissed to find out who those people were BUT after helping and having a relationship with them for so long I don't know that they would have done anything.

last time i was in that tunnel i got a 2 shot exploding mg42 (it was 3 star but i cant rember the 3rd legendary) It was glicthed but hilarious. given its an mg42 before i sold it i called it "hitlers boom saw" i was not speced into heavy guns but it sure was tempting. when ot wasnt glitched i just melted everything. Also I find the lack of John Henry refrences disapointing. He would fit the man vs machine theme perfectly and this is where he beat the steam drill at the cost of his life.
I don't think anyone is above redemption. The honest fact is fear and hunger can make even good people do terrible things. some people can come back from that, some cant. Survival is like war. it never changes. and the fact that they managed to find at least a little peace, even if they were part of the Cut Throats. is something that you have to admire. As for the responders. From what I've seen and heard. they are selfless. People need help, they step up. That's what they were built to do. that what they pledged themselves to do. Yes, I could understand a few people, if they knew, having reservations about helping the former cut-throats, but from the notes. it sounds like the people in the tunnels, genuinely regretted being part of that tragedy, so I doubt someone who chose to join the Responders, and selflessly thrust themselves into danger. would refuse helping them, at least not after seeing how remorseful they were about what happened. No. I think they might not have known. But would it even be relevant had they known? would selfless people, police, fire fighters. whatever, refuse to help people when they were in danger of being over run by Scorched? no, I think the Responders wouldn't care. The danger was real, the fact these people, made mistakes in the past wouldn't have mattered. In my opinion, The Responders lived by a simple code, if they had the power to make a difference. Then you have the responsibility, to use it for the good of mankind.
Idk how you do it Ox you have your live streams that you have been doing almost daily and on top of that you have fallout 3&76 content being released and LA Noire. You do great work and I love your videos

Guys I have been meaning to tell some people about this but I put it off. About a month or so ago, I was exploring down at the south end of the map by the black bear. I found a nice pond with streams leading off. I followed the side of the pond on the left, until I came across a tent surrounded by supermutants. Once I took them down, I was surprised to see a woman's preserved body. After looting her body I collected a note about joining the responders. I went back to the spot today and there was no camp, no body. Please let me know if this has happened to anyone because I know I'm not crazy.

Go for it! There are hundreds of You Tube and Twitch streamers with not so great voices. Just takes time and practice to get that radio voice. You can do it.

a little off topic but i always find it neat that you pronounce some words just slightly different then I'm used to. its rare but it always piques my interest and I know they're both correct and just kind of a regional thing but its cool.

Oh man I was hoping for an episode on this place!
At near end the Fire tried to kill all scourges. On last they gave up and made an operation to blow up both sides of tunel (if u look u will find many mines near the entrace). That operation failed as u see the 3 major dead leaving the scourge nest intact.
This is the second best quest of the gave and one of the best rewards (mods for any weapon).
Carol Sweeney was remorseful and repentant. Once a person turns away from the evil they do, they are a new person in a very real sense.
That doesn't mean that all the wounds they caused are healed, or that all the things they destroyed are restored. Redemption is all about paying your debts (or having your debts paid for you), and we don't see any of that from Carol. Sure, she felt bad. Sure, she turned away from doing evil. But I don't see her trying to make amends to the responders. I don't see her giving herself up. There wasn't even an attempt to reach out and explain. Had we found a message from her somewhere in Morgantown, it would be a very different story.
In the end, her self interest won out. She didn't lift a finger to rebuild any of what she tore down. She refused to face justice. When the chips were down, she was a retired raider--not a good person. Who knows how things might have turned out if she'd had more time. But I suspect she'd have taken the truth to her grave.
I really hope that your videos will help people get over the rough start. This is a really good game, and I absolutely love it.
Have to say, you did an excellent job (as always) tying it together between the different story threads. I never had a problem doing so in game, but judging by reactions some people just couldn't stand actually piecing it together themselves. Personally I found that to be really engaging, but I guess some people aren't interested in that sort of story-exploration.
I doubt they had the attention spans to do so, sadly. I often team up with younger players, and tell them the lore of the area we're in. They think I'm making it up (The "FO76 has no story" group-think) until I show them the notes/holotapes as proof...
@@deadpoolshitlist8510 Yeah, which is just so weird to me. It is, overall, no more effort or reading/listening than it would be if it was a cut scene or delivered by an npc. Abbie for instance, you could stick a warm pixel body in her bunker and have her die at the last quest of some wasting disease caught in the mire and her story line would be exactly the same, except for being able to stare at a handful of pixels while the dialog happened. It's just infuriating to me.
@@LowbrowDeluxe With a bit of thought and four months of playing (and talking with other players) I think many of the "haters" were disappointed that they couldn't go the "evil" route and KILL the NPCs (and loot their bodies).
Or maybe it just constant server crashes and bugs that got rid of them.

I know Rigo Prado, there's no point to anything, there are no survivors because there are no npcs. Boring.
It's awfully lazy storytelling
The appeal is in finding out HOW they died over whether they died (e.g. the Raider died because the automation of the Whitespring forced the staff and guests out and so had choose how to subsist after that. The various gangs show many strategies to this but ultimately were too busy stealing and killing others and themselves to realise the Scorched were the real threat that needed dealing with) and it tying into the theme of the Vault Dwellers of Vault 76 (i.e. the players) picking up the pieces of these fractured factions and deciding how to use them to rebuild America, whether that be nuking Scorchbeasts to keep them at bay or falling prey to the vices that ripped the pre-war and post-war factions apart. Plus arguably human NPCs would just be the same as the robot ones only with less personality and no robot voice filter over their voices. And that's saying something when one of the robots is Zack at Camdem Park who is a Mr Handy with no personality matrix.
No living human NPCs was a stylistic choice made for this particular game.
Now, since the sloths are now Giant Sloths in 76. Does that make it de-evolution? Since in our world the sloths evolved from giant sloths.
No, if they've reformed you save them. If you can. (in this case you can't)
I'm sure some of the Responders knew who they were. If you've faced raiders at Fallout distances, you can see faces. But, if someone turns away from evil...well, if you've got your hands full already, you leave well enough alone.

"Investigate for survivors" This game would have been great rather than meh if they put some npcs with dialogue in it. Its a missed opportunity, hopefully they will change that in the future

FRAG MINES are set at the mouth of the tunnel...or did you miss them? They were next to the Firebreather bodies. They were setting them to blow up the tunnel.
I have watched your videos and you don't typically pick up mines and grenades, so maybe you did not really pay them any attention.

I am hitting up this place today. Gonna be fun at level 56....level 68 scorched hit HARD. I have a theory about the Scorched and how they came to be...I will reply to myself so if you are curious....read more below.
See, I believe AMS accidentally created the Scorchbeasts with its subterranean detonations of nukes used for mining which mutated the bats via FEV which trickled into the underground via Huntersville. Big Bend tunnel and the Fissure Sights gave the SB's surface access. And the rest is bloody history. I wonder where the Scorchbeast KING is located, hmmmm?

Random answer.....You’ll want to make sure the tractor is parked on a level service, and that the engine doesn't have any power. Disconnect the spark plus wire in order to be safe whilst replacing your transmission belt. Then set the deck-height lever on the tractor to the lowest setting. From the left side of the mower deck, open the idler pulley using a 15 millimeter wrench. Pushing the wrench forward will take the pressure off the transmission belt. Remove the spring attaching this pulley to the transmission belt. You should then be able to slip the transmission belt off of the idler pulley and transmission pulley. This is best done in a rolling motion. Next, place your new transmission belt over the two pulleys. Re-attach the spring to bring tension back to the transmission belt. Release your wrench from the idler pulley. You can now reconnect the spark plug to the spark plus wire. Turn on your lawn tractor in order to test to see if the new transmission belt is working properly
