    What helps flow efficiency, increase good oil pressure psi that doesn't necessarily rob power due to increased windage
    We discuss the blueprinting mods we do that lets you improve oil pressure without the need for running too thick of an oil
    Also we touch up on a common misconception on shimming and what not
    and why side clearances matter on the oil pump gears

    This is something I never thought about, I knew people would put a washer to shim the pump to increase oil pressure by a lot but I didn't know that was actually a bad thing, no wonder 4piston racing don't do this, they port the pump instead which makes sense. So in conclusion porting the oil pump is a much wiser decision than shimming it but the thing is not everyone knows how to port the oil pump and an easier way more is just to add a few washers and get 100 psi of oil pressure 😅 happy to know this knowledge, I appreciate it, great video

    2jz oil pump have a straight shot and turn 90 degree’s exactly like this. One mod those guys do that really increases oil pressure is close off the motor feed and weld a fitting where that straight shot is, from there use a hose into the motor and feed oil that way.
    That less aggressive turn (using a hose) will increase pump performance allot. some supra guys even get too much pressure that way.

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yes! Angled turns really kill a lot of flow and pressure it’s why most AN fittings are curved pipes that’s superior

    Greetings from Portugal :) nice to know you speak Portuguese as well
    I'm kind of confused here...
    I have a b16a2 pump and a b18c4 pump from an mb6 civic (ukdm) but the b16 pump gears are in fact a little bit bigger than the b18. I noticed it when I tried to switch gears between pumps and the b16 gears won't fit in the b18 pump housing so maybe it is an aftermarket pump gear with a modified housing?
    Now I'm rebuilding the b18c4 but the pump is in really bad condition compared to the b16 I have
    My question is if there is any difference between b16 and b18 pumps regarding oil pressure and flow? Presuming they are both stock

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Greetings man! :)
      the pressure difference should be minor,
      on both oil pump u should see a “number”
      Engraved on the outer cover the one that faces the back of the pulley when the pulley is installed ? The higher number was sought after… like a 9-10 or 11 was preferred than a 7 or 8

    What about a h22a4 oil pump? Im about to do mine and am curious about it. Ill examine it amd see if there is anything that i can recognize from your explanations, but would there be anything in particular?

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They’re actually “visually” similar to the Bseries
      not sure if I worded it well enough back in that vid but the “cover”’or back side usually gets worn vs the steel gears and more sideplay there eats up pressure and oddly enough accelerates cavitation or in essence makes it happen sooner or worst so the almost no sideplay is always better…
      Almost always it’s the back cover that gets worn cuz that’s aluminum, unlike the steel gear
      (This something that’s easy for you to do actually)

  • @TrackSol
    @TrackSol ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Does the "back plate" wear more than the main housing? Also, are any of the aftermarket B series vtec pumps any good?

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      sometimes… and even if the main housing gets worn it’s harder to resurface it and so the backplate atleast reconditions “half” of it

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The ACL ones I’ve seen and held one is mint actually

    • @TrackSol

      @@SRDmotorsports Since the oil pump is running all the time, what is a mileage interval to check or recondition the pump?

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TrackSol that’s a good question but quite hard to tell I mean… it also has the gears submerged in oil, but locally anything that’s over 90,000km in the odometer I def check even the last series the VTi while not worn it did benefit from blueprinting it hence u see on start up before it even runs as we crank it oil light turns off ftw

    How about K series Type R and Type S pumps? Toda Racing actually shims and recommends shimming the K pump. One would had thought Toda being a big company involved in Honda tuning for decades and has their own R&D and manufacturing, would had know better?

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No actually on the K series it might be different and I haven’t researched as much on that yet mainly cuz on k24 ? Upgrading to k20 TypeR pump solves a lot including cavitation and even better on s2k pumps…. it might be different in a sense that the oil pump is belt driven? I know some brands offer some mods that slows the rpm of the oilpump thus moving the cavitation limit higher or away from normal rpm reach hence shimming might be an effective safety margin

    • @SRDmotorsports
      @SRDmotorsports  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Toda is the real deal so they for sure got some good r&d on that hence I consciously didn’t include the K stuff , until I got 101% research 😎

    • @antonc108
      @antonc108 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SRDmotorsports Thank you so much for the thoughts, yes K oil pump motors are chain driven, not sure how it differs in this sense, but if you look at Toda products under their K series oil pump/balancer shaft delete kits, they mentioned they increased the spring pressure by 15%. In another old instruction sheet from Toda about upgrading the lower block, they recommend, shimming the K oil pump with 2.5mm thickness worth of washers. The K pump's valve likewise relief back into the pump path within the pump, instead of outside the pump and into the oil pan, but I wonder if the valve internal design is the same and if shimming will actually reduce the 'supercharged' oil flow for the K pump motor. Would you investigate further if you have the chance next time for a K pump porting project or something?
