    Hey man, great overview! I started using Saphir products back in 2012. A handy thing if you don't use your products as fast and want them to stay good is to store them in freezer proof ziploc bags. They last a few years longer. When you have a toolbox full of as many shoecare products like you and I do it doesn't hurt to do so.
    If you're ever back in the greater Spokane/Coeur d'Alene area sometime it'd be great to meet up and talk boots or what not. I'm a local and just don't get out all that often. Over in Coeur d'Alene we have Craft and Lore if you haven't checked them out yet and a couple of other leather workers that are pretty cool. Craft and Lore has done a few collabs here and there.
    I have my first pair of Frank's on order and have to say they nailed my fit a bit better than Nick's did. Still have great things to say about both though. Thanks for your reviews!

      Appreciate that tip for sure. That fit thing seems to be a bit of an ebb and flow thing. Certainly tough when you start spending hundred to not be completely satisfied, but glad to hear that Franks Nailed it!! I'll be back in July/august so I'd love to meet up. Bakery by the lake at Parkside is a favorite stop in for us. Cheers man.

    I have Saphir Medaille d'Or Renovateur. It is a great conditioner for dress boots and shoes. It is water based with beeswax, mink oil, and lanolin. Saphir has other great products to use on work, hunting, and hiking boots that provide excellent waterproofing. They have Medaille d'Or Dubbin, HP Dubbin, Ouraline Dubbin, and the famous Everest Vegetal Dubbin. I have and use those as well and all are excellent products. By the way, Saphir Medaille d'Or cream and wax polishes are considered the best in the world.

    Definitely my favorite conditioner. I use it on my John Lofgren Engineers Natural CXL , Wesco Mr. Lou black tea core horsehide, and my Nick's Urban Logger W&C veg Tan. Also, I put it on my shell cordovan wallets. It does darken my Natural CXL, but not really dark.

      I gotta say, this stuff is going to be a staple in my care kit. Albeit a huge and growing care kit. That's ok though... Thanks for watching and I'm enjoying hearing about your collection. Now I gotta get me a shell cordovan wallet!!

    • @WelderVp

      @Gentleman's Journey Ashland Leather website, you'll thank me later! I have shell cordovan wallets from different tannery, and horween shell is by far my favorite. "Ashland Leather " Johnny the Fox wallet in horween Garnet shell. It started out redish, and now it's black looking and crimson. My sweat caused one side to get very dark, plus the indigo from my selvedge jeans darkened it also. So cool, I love it. I can't wait to see your next content. Thank you!
      Ps. The saphir renovatuer actually helps with little scratches on cordovan. I'm not sure about really big scratches and cuts, but the little ones I get on my wallet from time to time seem to disappear with it.

      @carlos prieto ah, that is a great choice. I really wanted to order a pair with that leather. I would recommend Venetian Shoe Cream or this Saphir Renovatuer. But don't use any until you have them broken in all the way, or at least a little

    On your experience with different conditioners, is there one I can use on my patina boots without changing the color or darkened them up? My boots after years of service are cleaned and put away on my collection. ❤❤❤🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

  • @UnknownUser-rb9pd
    @UnknownUser-rb9pd ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would not use the same brush to shine the boot that I used to clean the dirt off the boots.
    It will have bits of dirt and grit in it which can scratch the leather. Better to use a separate brush.
    Saphir Renovateur works better for dressier footwear as it has the waxes so effectively it conditions and adds shine. It seems to work best on traditional calf leather.
    However it can make dye run on some painted leathers which have less permanent finishes. So your burnished toe or factory applied patina becomes a streaky toe.
    Finally, don't be fooled by products which are "all natural". If you look up toxicity of natural turpentine it is more hazardous than turpentine produced as a by product of the oil industry.

    • @GentlemansJourney
      @GentlemansJourney  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Don’t over think it, same brush is just find guys. Thanks for watching buddy

    • @Vultain
      @Vultain ปีที่แล้ว

      You are referring to analine leather. A lot of vegetable tanned hides have it. It's where instead of spraying the dye in they soak and immerse it. Typically dyes are more natural. Great when you want a patina. Not so great when you want to polish. Even a neutral cream polish will slightly remove the dye.
      That type of leather is more built up for Nappa Balm from Saphir. Use something like Gentle Cleanser to clean or just damp water. Less is more like anything.

    • @thedragon356
      @thedragon356 ปีที่แล้ว

      What you said makes sense, but screw it it’s a boot lol.

    • @UnknownUser-rb9pd
      @UnknownUser-rb9pd ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Vultain Analine leather is one category that can be affected by Renovateur. As you say, it is only surface dyed at the tannery to bring out the natural leather grain. However there is also crust leather which is undyed when it is supplied to the shoe manufacturer and the leather is dyed by hand/spray gun at the shoe factory. A lot of manufacturer's also add burnishing to analine dyed leather shoes to give them patina and an aged look. All of these can be affected by Renovateur.
      For info, if you can track it down, Avel, the parent company of Saphir. also do a Renovateur/Renovator which they market for furniture, leather jackets etc. This comes in neutral but also a few colours. The only difference I've found is that this has more waxes and adds a little more shine, and is designed as an all in one solution. Even the smell is the same. And the real advantage is that they typically sell 250ml for the same cost as 75ml of the stuff they market to shoe people.

    • @UnknownUser-rb9pd
      @UnknownUser-rb9pd ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thedragon356 I agree up to a point but why bother with all the boot care in the first place then. Personally I usually run the boots under a tap or use a wet cloth as I live in a place where it rains 200 days a year and the ground is wet nearly all the time and covered with leaf mulch, rather than dusty and dry. That's about all I do except for a condition maybe once a year but only if they are feeling dried out from repeated soakings.
