    Plan for A LOT of extra time depending on location. The 3 hrs install time is for a perfect scenario. I installed the 2 sun tunnels over my stairs. So the setup and positioning of ladders took over 30 mins. Going up/down from the attic is not easy in my house. Lots of mins just moving between attic and 2nd floor. The area in the attic where the tunnels are located was probably in the tightest space up there. Not as simple as the video with lots of standing room. And of course, you need to be careful and ensure you are supported on the beams and not the drywall. Cutting the hours was not so simple. I have a double drywall ceiling and guess what. When cutting the holes, I came across wood strapping for the ceiling. Grab more tools, more time needed. Installing the fixture took a lot of trial and error. The hole recommended does not factor in the tabs. I had to cut extra 1/2 inch notches at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock positions. I concur with others, the defuser is nearly impossible to put on especially on a tall ladder. And if your fixture is too tightly installed, it will warp the shape and make the install of the defuser impossible. My install time didn't even include the roof work. This was done by the roofers when I had my roof redone. Oh, by the time I installed the defuser, it was so dirty from the handling that I wanted to take it down and clean it.... :-( Not the best DIY experience but glad I could could finish the job.

      It is even worse now.
      The lower fixture does even have holding screws or any predrilled holes.
      In 2012 I installed 6 skylights. It took one day for the first time, and half day each for each subsequent ones.
      Now there are no holding screws, no cardboard template marked on box, and very thin flair.
      I have already spent 2 days for the first one.
      Returning all of them back to Lowes.
      Velux is no more the pioneer it was 15 years ago.
      NOW IT SUCKS
      How d

    At the summary an important step was missed-- marking the location in your ceiling where you want the most light.

    Conecting the tunnel to the defuser ?? Pretty dumb

    My diffuser is two pieces of plastic and a rubber ring that seems to simulate a double pane window for insulation. I took it out for cleaning and it's near impossible to put back. Any tips?

    • @veluxusa
      @veluxusa  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nils - Thanks for the question.
      Once you have diffuser discs inserted into the rubber gasket, you will notice that one edge of the gasket has a frilly edge (like a small bump out in the gasket) and the other is smooth. Insert the rounded or smooth end of the diffuser into the opening. You may need to apply a light coating of liquid dish detergent to the outer portion of the gasket so that it will slide more easily into the ceiling housing.
      If you need further assistance, please call VELUX Technical Support @ 1-800-888-0361.

    Is there heat transfer? I'd be concerned about bringing in extra heat in the summer

    • @veluxusa
      @veluxusa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there, Sun Tunnels have design features such as thermal breaks and gaskets that reduce the risk of condensation in colder climates such as the northern US and Canada. Generally, they do not have issues with condensation in warmer climates, for example; during the Summer with air conditioning. For heat gain, we offer an optional energy kit that reduces Solar Heat Gain to as low as 0.26 Btu/Hr-ft².

    The company who installed my sun tunnel put the tape on the inside is this correct? Shouldn't the tape be on the outside like in the video?

    • @veluxusa
      @veluxusa  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We recommend that the tape provided with a Sun Tunnel be applied to the outside of the tube for better light quality, ease of installation, and potential service issues. For visual confirmation you can send images to velux.solutions@velux.com. Thank you.

    How to install weather lock and underlayment around sun tunnel? I just bought my sun tunnel, but worries about leaking

    • @veluxusa
      @veluxusa  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      While VELUX does use an ice and water shield in the flashing and installation of our skylight products, the Sun Tunnel Skylights require a slightly different installation method requiring the use of a roofing mastic to create a waterproof barrier. If you have any questions about this method, please feel free to contact our technical support team at (800) 888-3589 for assistance.

    • @veluxusa
      @veluxusa  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the question. The cost ranges from $650 to $2,150 to install a single Sun Tunnel skylight. The cost will depend on the roof pitch, the height of the roof and the distance from roof to ceiling. Thank you.

    Is there a minimum high for installing

    • @veluxusa
      @veluxusa  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sharon - There isn't a minimum based on reflectivity, but for connectivity you need at least 6 inches of tunnel to reach the ceiling ring from the pivot ring of the flashing.

    The video is terrible. What screws go where? How do I measure the solar tube to determine what needs to be cut? Lots of details left out. The instructions are also worthless on what to do with the solar tube itself.
    The solar tube is too short, so I use a elbow and now it’s too long. Do I need to use another section and cut to it? Or do I use the elbow and cut down?
    Poor instructions are stopping me from completing the project because I don’t know what I’m doing. Thanks Velux.

    DIYers Don't buy this product. The light diffuser is very poorly designed and extremely difficult to insert. I have followed the directions every time, but something always happens before getting it seated properly. The diffuser discs collapse together most of the time or one edge will go in but not on the other side. Calling support won't help either. They will repeat the directions and tell you it was shipped to you with the diffuser inside the ring, so it should fit. Of that I have no doubt, but I have spent several hours of my precious time on this without being able to insert it while on a ladder with 2 people trying to position it without the same success as the robot did in the factory under ideal conditions.

    I got a good laugh from the statement about roof pitch from 15 to 60 degrees. Roof pitch is given as a ratio to 12. 4/12, 5/12, 6/12, etc. It's obvious you've never framed a roof in your life.

      I understand what you are saying but I believe that anyone measuring in potato heights does a better job than some people working in /12 if that's all they know. Don't laugh at the beginner, cause their second work may be better than you potential!
