    This video series features the complete restoration of a 1972 CL350 Honda Scrambler motorcycle. The videos should help anyone whether working on a cafe racer build or a full-on original restoration. I'm definitely not an expert so please refer to your manuals for proper disassembly and assembly instructions. Please leave comments if you have any questions. I'll be happy to help answer questions if I can confidently provide solutions. Again, I'm not a professional. This is my 2nd Honda motorcycle restoration and I'm learning every single day. I'd love to hear your tips if you have better ways to do things. I hope you find the series useful and entertaining. I strive to show as much detail as possible so that the videos can be used as not only a how-to resource but also a reference for the placement and original set up of parts and systems.
    If you don't have one already please get a manual for your specific project. There are many available online for download for free.
    Common Motor Collective, from which I source many of my replacement parts, has a fantastic resource on their website: bit.ly/CBManuals

    Keep on wrenching, Friends!

    Great stuff man. Got a 1980 CB400T Hawk that I need to replace some of the gaskets and fluid in the forks. Very helpful video.

    Just found your channel and I’m binging on this series. I would say those tubes are fine as long as the part that goes though the seal is fine. That rusted part is hidden anyhow. Whenever I would pull a fork out we would put a flat screwdriver in the slot after the bolt is out to open it up just a bit. Makes the tubes come out a lot easier.

      Totally! Just be really careful with that triple tree as to not flex it too much. Those things are not cheap. So breaking one of those mounts would be heartbreaking. I tackle the full fork rebuild later in the series. Glad you found the playlist! Enjoy and don’t hesitate to comment and ask questions. Lots of great suggestions and tips come in the comments.

    Your did a great job Brian! Definitely too intimidating for me to do that to my cafe 350. Can you recommend anyone in the Atlanta area that would do a great job switching out my front forks?

      It’s not so bad. Keep in mind this thing was a rust bucket. It should go a lot smoother. I’m not aware of anyone in the ATL area. I do think this is something you could get into.

    Ended up here because I'm dealing with the exact same thing and wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some trick. I ended up pulling the triple trees with the forks still attached because I knew the bearings needed replaced anyway, I guess once I get that done I'll be beating on the forks like this. Also, I agree with the poster who said they should be fine as long as they're not gouging up seals--did you end up reusing these tubes?

      Tubes were fine. Sometimes it’s easy. Sometimes not so much.

      @@KeepOnWrenching I finally got my forks separated from the lower triple tree - one was bent like a banana and the other was nearly completely rusted through, so new tubes for me. :(

      That sucks! It’s hit and miss with these things. Don’t let it discourage ya! Go get it.

    Good stuff! Thanks for sharing. That fork looked pretty hairy to work on!

      The fork and the whole darn bike at this point! Lol. Good luck. Man, those were stuck on. Just careful to not break those clamps on the triple tree.

    Hey Brian Another great video. Question, that little rubber cushion cover at the very top of the fork you said to not lose towards the end of your video. . . well the bike I bought is missing just one of these rubber covers on the left fork side. Do I have to completely take apart the fork like you did just to slip a new rubber cushion cover on the very top? Thanks

    • @KeepOnWrenching
      @KeepOnWrenching  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should be able to loosen things up on that side and slide the fork down to slip it in.

    When you were rotating the triple tree after the removal of the fork tubes what did you feel that indicated the bearings were shot?

    • @KeepOnWrenching
      @KeepOnWrenching  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bearings could likely be cleaned and regressed but it just feels gritty. It’s dirty. Hard to explain but it doesn’t go smoothly.
