Racer X Films: 1992 and 1993 Honda CR500 Builds

- In October 2017, Justin McMurrich was diagnosed with cancer growing along the nerve in his jaw. This required a radical surgery removing a large portion of his jawbone and 17 rounds of radiation. To occupy his mind and hands, he found and purchased two Honda CR500s to work on when he was fighting to survive during his recovery. This led to a discussion with me about rebuilding 500s and a garage build project. After all, the two of us grew up racing together in Arizona and we’ve both since become firefighters. Cancer within the fire service is rampant due to the exposure to carcinogenic materials on the job, making this project something very personal to both of us.
When Justin got the bikes, they were pretty beat up. We had to tear them all the way down to the frame. After reviewing the needed parts and getting a list together, parts were ordered. We were ready to get down to business. The frames were repainted and the bikes were rebuilt from the frame up. This was a three to four-month process to complete and really helped Justin to deal with his serious health issues. One of the bikes Justin plans to keep and ride as a reminder of the single most difficult thing he’s ever had to deal with. The other bike he wanted to auction off for charity and the folks at Road 2 Recovery were our non-profit of choice. The bike is currently up for auction on the R2R website: road2recovery.com/event-view/....

#BikeBuild #1992CR500 #1993CR500 - กีฬา
Unbelievable that someone would give a thumbs down 👎. Totally disrespectful to this gentleman and the fire service.
The world has its fair share of fuckwitts..that’s for sure
Dude it's their own opinion. Why should they not give their honest feedback on this content? Just because they disliked don't mean they don't have respect for fireman and specifically the one guy who won the fight with cancer. Maybe they thought it was too much yap not enough braap
God I miss the sound of a gate full of 500’s! Just the sound of them during a moto! I raced a KX500 one season...1987 I think....it’s was ridiculous, I was about 130lbs and had only raced 125’s since I was 13😂😂😂good times! Ping is an appropriate nickname riding these beasts! Ping a ding ding!
Awesome! I'm in the process of rebuilding my 93 cr500 that I've had since high school. Great resource for available parts. Thanks!
Awesome bikes guys! I’m digging the white ‘92, both really but I like the way the white plastics stand out. Glad you were able to beat the nasty cancer, good luck and prayers going forward!! 👍✌️
Those are beautiful beasts!!!
Had an 85 CR 500. Made a man out of me,....quick! Really nice vid.
Total respect and awesome job!
Great job guys and way to represent your respective fire stations! Thanks to all those sponsors and something that I will consider will shopping for my rebuild!
Wow best CR s. That I’ have ever seen..... Absolutely stunning !!!!! Well done guys 👍
Beautiful Bikes!!!👍👍
Bikes sound awesome! Can almost smell the premix...
Sweet Deal guys! Keep up the great work! Justin glad you have been on the road to recovery buddy!
Those bikes look amazing!!
Well done 🤘
Thanks for the share! Was great to hear what created “braaaap”!
Top Class work.
I knew you were a fireman!! The handlebar mustache gave it away, standard equipment on many fireman!
Sweet bikes!
The last big change for the Cr500 was in 89 new frame and fork 91 was sub frame air box and plastic after that is was bold new plastic till it died , I owned one of each but I liked the 90 the best I'm so glad I kept it .those 500s look amazing !!!!!!
93 got different gearing for 4th and 5th, 96 got better front fork, 98 got better rear shock
'94 got a beefed up frame ('92 & '93 had frame cracking issues) wider spaced 4th & 5th gears, '95 the rake was slightly relaxed, '96 had new suspension (forks), '98 got a new shock, then it was BNG untill the end.
I got an 88 CR500 that I just got the stator replaced on. Only got to ride it about 3 times since i've bought it before it went out. Been watching 500 videos all week itching to ride this weekend.
That would be a fun project!
I WAS SUPPOSED TO BUY A CR 500 A WHILE BACK , GREAT BIKES LOVE THE 500'S WE HERE RIDE XR 650'S .
How great would it be to see like a 2025 Honda CR 500 or KX 500 come into production with modern suspension and geometry, they'd sell out in weeks. My dad showed my photos of the old factory 500s from back in the 1980s. They looked so good and the old videos of guys like David Bailey tearing around on those bikes was super gnarly.
Great stuff justin 💪 👊cancer
I'm, rebuilding my old 93' CR500 now. Used it for off roading. The most brutal are to ride it was slow rock strewn creek beds. 1st gear stuff. Ping, ping, ping and it would lurch forward on every ping.
In my opinion - CR500's make really good of-road bikes. As long as you are good with the clutch in the slow stuff, they can get along really well. Many people fear them, but they are really big pussy-cats! I regretted selling my '95, and just recently picked up a '93. It needs some work, but 1 ride, and it all came rushing back. That power! That vibration!
Now that's some show ponies, great job boys
The White 1 is🔥
DREAM BIKES💯🔥👍🏻👊🏼
I’ve never ridden a 500. That power must be insane.
Very torquey, yet very smooth. It isnt pipey like a 125.
A tad less power than today's 450s. The CRF450R makes 63hp, the CR500 was rated at 55.
Great cause. Only first responders I respect, firefighters, true heros.
Why dont you respect police and ems? Not trying to be an ass just asking
@@claireelliot6846 b/c police just try to control ppl and don't follow the law. I was attacked by police for going to.a public meeting, it's on my channel. I still have a separated sternum that won't heal. I have had numerous encounters with police, state and local, as had ppl I know. They tell just as many horrific stories. My case is still going on in Lebanon, it has destroyed my life.

My 480 and 500 that my father left me were stolen. I’ll never be able to afford another bike I sure would do anything for one of these bikes!!! 😞
😍😍
Might change up the color combo on my '96 again...
Raffle it !
Did you guys race professional before? For not being on a 500cc for 20 years you still have skills on the bike, wasn't exactly giving it death but not many people could thrash a 500cc round a track. Both ur riding was smooth can tell you used to race, just wondered at what level?
Pingree raced professionally from 1993--2004 and held several factory rides, and also won multiple 125 supercross main events. He raced at the very highest level!
Dude kinda sounds like Joe Rogan
Ruined it with the 04 fenders
Actually it’s growing on me
