Donn, magnificently made, a true from the grounds up builder/fabricator, now for a real thrill, build a small sand blasting box, like that would be a real brain freeze after all you've already done, a walk in the park. Good things happen to good people, your good at what you do, thanks for the ride !!
When i first saw this build i thought you were going to shorten the axel adapt cv joints and have a rack and pinion type system. I was really excited. Ive been toying with that idea for an amphibious vehicle. Years back we made a 6 wheel atv from a corvair using brakes for steering. It required constant maintenance and adjustments. The inline brake system youre doing is genius.
Hey Donn a simple solution for no blast chamber is a Dremel with a wire wheel this will get you into the small tight areas. WOW, outstanding craftsmanship, your skills are in extremely high demand in the USA, you could make a very comfortable living here.
Great project. The only thing better than the project is watching you do the work in the shop that you rebuilt. ANOTHER great project. Thanks for sharing your work, it's informative and inspiring.
Hey Donn coming right along and great job on the Oops. Nice save on the pistons, glad they weren’t ruined. Really liking all the remanufacturing you are doing.Shows the skills and patience you have learned and to make the boo-boos right before going on. Thanks for sharing with us. Keep up the good work and videos.
With all the wrecked vehicles in the world could you go and pick The grungiest set you could find. But if that’s all there is that’s all there is. Good job cleaning them and rebuilding them. Look forward to watching some of the other videos.
The tyre valve that you mentioned is called a, Schrader valve. A man named A. Schrader invented it. Just food for thought. Love your vids, your quite the inventor, and fabricator. You need to make some trials bike riding videos, that style amazes me. Keep up the good work!
Good idea using a valve stem o maintain pressure in the caliper. Good work. Don't forget to paint the brackets you made. Looking forward to more videos on this project, at least you found some use for a Lada lol.
I don't know how it is in Lithuania but here it is much more economical to buy a rebuilt caliper and use the old one as the trade in core. By the time you buy individual parts and or rebuild kits you are at the same or more dollars. Always like to hear your commentary. Take care. Doug
Awesome project. You should try soaking rusty parts in unrefined molasses and water. 9 parts water, 1 part molasses. It works great and gets into every nook and cranny.
With your skills you could build yourself a blast cabinet in a day. You also need a parts bath with a recirculating pump and filter - something else that you could probably build in a day with your skills. There is a product, POR15 (Paint Over Rust 15th Attempt). It's pretty good for painting over rust. It hardens and prevents air and moisture from reaching the rust while at the same time preventing the rust from spreading.
Sos un capo loco....me re cuelgo viendo tus vídeos...haces lo q todo el mundo quiere hacer...jajaja...almenos a los q nos gusta estar inventado y reformando cosas....abrazos desde argentina
I just found this and it looks like I’m WAY late to the party, but that’s ok. That only means that now I can binge watch this stuff! YES!! This is better than ANYTHING on TV by LEAP YEARS!!
Fantastic progress on the amphib my friend. I love what you are doing with the shortened diff. I look forward to every new episode. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Hey there Donald, Greetings from New Zealand, I have just watched all your videos and I am very impressed with your work ethic, love watching true craftsmen at work rather than somebody who just buys and fits parts, I suspect a plasma cutter and bead blasting cabinet are on the to get list too. keep up the great work Carl.
If you had a bucket, could've filled with evapo-rust or diesel fuel and let soak over night before working on those parts. Would've made them a lot easier to come apart for ya. Always use air to remove those brake cylinders, so much easier on everything, not going to hurt anything either. I'm looking forward to seeing how this all comes out in the end. Good work so far. Cheers :)
Nice job! You're giving me some inspiration! I want disk brakes on my 66 Pontiac but I don't have alot of money. I'm thinking about just fabricating brackets myself
I word of caution - I'm using this solution on an off-road vehicle that moves really slowly. I'm not saying converting a car from drum brakes to disc brakes can't be done but I reckon there's much more to consider when doing so. Just from the safety aspect. But the idea behind the aftermarket conversion kits is the same so go figure... I've converted an ATV like this before but again - it's an off-road vehicle.
Great videos. Great editing. A suggestion... A video with your back story ... Where you are from. How you came to have all of your amazing talents and skills... Show how you make your videos... Your video equipment ... Video editor. Thanks
I have to say I have learned more about differentials and brakes watching your videos then I have actually working on them. Awesome job!! Love how you fixed your mistake. I was saying to myself, I would weld it and trim it again. Great minds!! LOL
So if you end up having to re paint these i suggest investing in a dremel with the wire wheel attachment and also suggest investing in some rust converter paint and what that does is it actually converts the rust into a paintable surface and also acts as a primer for the paint. Just my thought hope this helps
Dont know where youre located but i bought a wonderful benchtop bead blaster from Matco tools for under 100.00. I got it specifically for redoing the brakes on my car in the picture on my email address. Topped them off with gold leaf paint. All 8 calipers were beautiful. I felt ashamed to block their view with wheels. So i had them gold plated.
Donn a transformé un essieu arrière de Lada (freins à tambour) en un bloc de direction à différentiel pour son engin chenillé (freins à disques provenant d'un Peugeot Partner)... Pas mal fait !
Donn.might want to see if the LADA ever came with a limited slip differential. That way when not turning you will have full power to both tracks. Just a suggestion. Great build so far.......but......knowing you from your previous build videos it MOST CERTAINLY BE GREAT!!!!
One way of dislodging a rusty brake piston is by using Grease, install a Straight Zerk Fitting Grease Nipple Fittings in place of the bleeder or at the hose and pump it with grease
Really good stuff! Just have to point out one thing: Consider using a grease gun for pushing out brake pistons. It´s both easier and safer. Or at least, use some wood or something if you use air. Anyway, love your good work. :)
Awesome that was another great video. I love all the things that you're fabricating they are so professionally done keep up the good work. Greetings from Phelan California USA I can't wait for the next video.
Excessively thick caliper mounts. For example, the rear drum brakes are mounted on a 1.5 mm thick shield. like! (Излишне толстые крепления суппортов. К примеру, задние барабанные тормоза крепятся на щитке толщиной 1.5 мм. Лайк! )

Yes, a sandblaster or maybe soda blaster would be even better for smaller things.
1. Nice way to explain by captions in english.
2. Good to listen original sounds instead of music.
3. Very nice editing of video.
I totally agree with your comment about the sound.

You're going to be a good person in machanic of creating a such vehicle. You're working on very carefully part by part.

Awesome, inspiring work. Very lucky with the pistons; no rust, no pitting.
Yup, for sure. Seeing the pistons from the inside made me think they're the same on the outside. But in the end all worked out okay.
No fuss no bother. A wizard engineer. Great job.
With all the wrecked vehicles in the world could you go and pick The grungiest set you could find. But if that’s all there is that’s all there is. Good job cleaning them and rebuilding them. Look forward to watching some of the other videos.
O man all the tools looks like a dream shop to me !
You have the skills to build your own sandblast chamber! I can’t wait to see you build it!
In the future for sure!
I love this series! I also love how silent your drill press is.
By the way. Great job at showing the detailed work on all of this without making it boring as hell. That right there is is an art.
God job !!.. you are the best!.. Sal. from New York!..

Watching you wire wheel brushing the caliper. I could smell the rust!!
😀
Good idea using a valve stem o maintain pressure in the caliper. Good work. Don't forget to paint the brackets you made. Looking forward to more videos on this project, at least you found some use for a Lada lol.
Why does a Lada have a heated rear window? To keep your hands warm when you have to push it.:-}

I like watching your videos because you don't have all the fancy tools that many other people have.
I don't know how it is in Lithuania but here it is much more economical to buy a rebuilt caliper and use the old one as the trade in core. By the time you buy individual parts and or rebuild kits you are at the same or more dollars. Always like to hear your commentary. Take care. Doug
Lithuania? I don't know either. I'm from Estonia.
@@DonnDIY Sorry. Been a long while since I watched the video where you gave your country's name!! At any rate it might be the same for brake pricing??
Hey man you are the best at building anything. You keep getting the tools and you will be even better at your builds
that's a nice tap handle looks like an antique
It belonged to my aunt's husband who was a machinist.
Awesome project. You should try soaking rusty parts in unrefined molasses and water. 9 parts water, 1 part molasses. It works great and gets into every nook and cranny.
Great series of videos. I love the way you dont hide oops and show how to fix them. Real world stuff. Please keep the videos coming.
Continued impressive work given lack of a more fully equipped machine shop. Rock on Sir.
I have to imagine with your mechanical ingenuity, You could easily build yourself a nice sandblaster bench. :)
I like the way you think. Good work too!

Excellent modification exprties,good engineering.
Very neat project you utilized the tools readily available 👍
Красивая работа , показано всё по этапно !!!!!!
Fantastic progress on the amphib my friend. I love what you are doing with the shortened diff. I look forward to every new episode. Thank you for sharing it with us.
New episode in this series next Friday, August 30. Thanks for watching!
This guy is nothing else than a genius !

Well done starting to take shape great video again thanks
lots of respect to your engineering skills!

Your back yard skill amaze me.!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never seen a tap handle like that in the US, I like it.
I've seen that one before.
@@clydebalcom8252 Do you know who makes them?

Can always use Electrolysis for the rust in hard to get a spots. Get an old stick welder and run it around 40amps, works quite quick.
Awesome! One note, might want to do a plunger setup with the caliper or only the pads on the piston side will work after a while.
Pure genius at work!!!
You are a very smart and talented man.
great work on those caliper mounts look machined

Good information. Thanks! I'm obviously no painter. 😁
Trust me that rust converter paint has saved me so much time instead of trying to paint over it
Класс, люблю когда делают всё супер.👍
Air pressure to center is great idea. Thank you for solution
Fantastic work as always.
all looks good when you give it love and attention ! nice work
I respect you for how you use an angle grinder. You are extremely patient and crazy :D

Não entendo, mas aos meus olhos. Essa peça está aprovada. Da para fazer um cart monstro 😎👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Next toys, metal bandsaw and sand blast cabinet. Well done.Did I spot a wedding ring?

Donn, as good of a Fabricator you are, I sure wished you lived next door to me.
One way of dislodging a rusty brake piston is by using Grease, install a
Straight Zerk Fitting Grease Nipple Fittings in place of the bleeder or at the hose and pump it with grease
Remember to put in the break bleeding valves with a little bit of copperpaste. You wont regret it in a few years.

Hopefully you've discovered vapor blasting by now, superior to any other dry blast process. Easy convert any sand or bead blaster to a vapor blaster.
I have, I'm currently following a vaporblasting equipment manufacturer and contemplating getting a booth.
Very nice video
Good job. ...👍💟💝💞💝👍

Been waiting for this video, looks incredible! Following the project!
Excellent fab work this episode Donn!
Nice work Sir. You can get small wire wheels for electric dremel they work well for getting into tiny places.
Yup. The dremel we have doesn't work anymore that well. I'm thinking about a soda blasting chamber for this kind of smaller parts.
