Alot of cons already do this which people who aren't inherently furries are the ones who pass the laws so of course they are going to be incredibly ignorant and not know that this is a thing
*Oh no! that's absolutely horrible, what kind of cruel, sick government would do such a thing?* "The State of Florida made it illegal..." *Oh, that makes total sense*
They made this law because the furry fandom is extremely open to queer identity and it is an easy avenue to test out identity, with created anthropomorphic characters/sonas. The law is as obvious as the ‘litter boxes in schools’ myth, with their respective purposes; they are attacks on the queer community, specifically trans identity, where-in furry is the easiest attack since most people already think we are odd. They are trying to keep kids away from supportive communities, where they can learn more about themselves. That was the point with attacking drag. That was the point of attacking therians and conflating their spirituality, with somehow transitioning into a literal animal and “demanding” litter boxes and shorter lunch tables. That is the point of making these cons +18 and connecting all those who go to these conventions, as kinksters - combining open queerness with voyeuristic intent; on-top of villainizing and making kinksters out to be deviants who can’t control themselves, in public spaces. The solution is simple; if a con has no explicit need to be +18 only, then there shouldn’t be an issue if it’s for all ages. Parents and Guardians will likely grab an events broucher, so simply put in it explicit after dark hours and what it entails, so they know not to bring their kids out. I personally prefer +18 events, but I would’ve grown up way less isolated and miserable, had I the option to explore my queerness (and weirdness) in an open community and made friends, who were just like me.
From what I've experienced personally, is that I've seen kids and parents that have accidentally stumbled into a 18+ area or people dressed with little clothes going to those areas so it's easy to put this into restrictions plus the politicians get the parental vote. Like I've seen a youth sports event clash with the furcon (ofc they were hosting prior) so many teens got to see groups with suggestive attire and of course these kids were making a shocked fuzz about that more than the regular fursuits. I think it's got much more to do with just signing bills over parent support over LGBT. In the end putting a higher restriction on these events only hurts kids sense of exploration and getting out of their homes. Only leveling factor would be for kids to be accompanied by a parent/guardian if they want to be sure they are safe.
@@ri0tgh0ooul89 the law actually never says anything about furrys. It says minors are baned from adult entertainment events. Just ban kink from furcons and enforce holtel rules in public spaces. It's that simple
I went to indyfur Con, and they had any adult panels n such closed off to those who couldmt show real identification that they were over 18. Each panel that was mostly for adults was clearly marked for 18 plus only and monitored. The rest were open to all ages, and nothing went wrong. I even saw a child in full fursuit with their parents. In my opinion, it should be up to the conventions staff on if they should make it only for adults or not. The government shouldn't be stepping in to try to control it.
I hope I go there someday :) I’m still practicing masks. And when I grow up older I hope I get to make a suit! Btw I’m a teen so you don’t think I’m young asf 0-0
just let kids and teens go to conventions with a parent/guardian, then during the 18+ hours they shouldn't be walking around the con space, simple as that. furry conventions are for EVERYONE and the government needs to chill the fuck out.
Blame the governor of Florida for that mess. But the reason behind it does make sense as to why they did that. It's to protect minors from "harrassment" for reasons that I will not say here.
@@koda_dawgg Conventions are not for everyone. Since adults GREATLY out number children by a massive amount at conventions the conventions need to consider the greater number of people aka adults.
Furry cons are no different than comic cons and anime cons. Minors shouldn’t even be going alone to any big con like that and just like any other con there’s restricted areas for adults
The difference is how these communities were founded, comic con was founded by groups who had a love and interest in characters within comic and super hero media. And the minors that were attending also knew those characters so even if they were in more scantily clad outfits the minors would know that's just representation of the character. In the furry fandom it was founded by people with a love for anthro animals, but it was all adults so adult based content became heavily normalized and integrated into the fandom right off the bat
Thats interesting, Defiantly funny to make news out of something like this -- So they call fursuits drag now? Im actually for that vs. the people thinking we are trying to make another gender pronoun or actually believe you want to identify as that animal lmfao Not sure whats going on in the news lately but the questions I get IRL about the fandom cracks me right up
That's common in Europe! XD so many cons are 18+ only. And they thrive! In fact, more people want to come because it is 18+ only. They often have One Open Day where people under 18 are allowed to visit, but not access the dealer's den and some parts of the con. But the cons usually arrange something fun for them to watch and interact with.
I can get behind that showing the locals that furry is not the bogyman but keeping kids out of adults hair who just want to enjoy the furry con brat free.
The bigger issue with this law in my opinion is that it pushes "furry" as specifically sexual in nature and "dangerous" to kids which is just full on old school homophobia. I think cons deciding if they have the ability to safely host minors is a different conversation too because age verification for certain panels and stuff can get logistically tricky but a law specifically stating a hobby (which for many isn't remotely sexual or whatever) isn't safe for minors is absolutely government overreach. Funny that it's all "parents rights" when it's about health education curriculum, banning books, and fighting about homeschooling but hobbies where you already need a parents permission to even get a badge for the event suddenly it's not safe for parents to choose. Interesting how all of these things have hate from religious nutjobs as the connecting factor.
@@AveragePikmin1 for little kids, maybe. most if not all shonen series (one piece, jjk, demon slayer, naruto, dragon ball, jjba, etc, even attack on titan) are made for children and teenagers, ie, minors, aka, not an older audience. there's plenty of seinen series if you want to talk about animanga for older audiences
I got into this fandom when I was ELEVEN. ELEVEN YEARS OLD. I've done a fine job of being intentional with my social circles and content consumption. Even as a child watching anime/going to cosplay conventions, I saw more age-inappropriate content in THOSE spaces than I did from furries. Teenagers- early 20 somethings in anime/comic cons my entire adolescence were very openly indecent or sexual and it was always, for me, something I was able to just walk away from or let my friends enjoy while I stood off and politely declined. I shouldn't have been exposed to it, for sure, but I handled myself and these spaces pretty okay. I've never felt that fur cons needed to be age restricted any more than any other event. We have sensual or downright sexual ads and plots in our every day lives, including in teen and young adult media. The internet is next to impossible to truly age restrict. Kids are going to see it all no matter what. Hell, I had kids my age making y!ff jokes before I even knew what that was, and I was the one drawing blue huskies on all my notebook pages. Let kids be kids and let them enjoy the things they enjoy. Require parents like every other con. It's not hard.
@Squirrelstar I went to Anthrocon 2024 this year as my first con :) Those memories are going to last forever, I loved Pittsburgh, I loved the convention, I got so much cool shit from it and even if I didn't get anything the memories are going to cheer me up for the rest of my life. The only sexual things I saw were weird body pillows at the Dealer's den, and a horse with a very huge bosom (but everyone knows her) which was more funny than anything. The furry fandom is amazing.
Totally agree with your stance: keep the kink out of cons. Just keep it in the bedrooms. Kink has nothing to do with being a furry. It's about floofy animals. Folks of all ages have a right to and can enjoy that. There's already plenty of 18+ cons. Vegas is the right city for that.
"Kink has nothing to do with furries" Why furries lie so hard to everyone and themselves? When more than half of the attendees goes to the "after dark" market, when there's fetish gear and org*es in the rooms (don't deny it), when sites like e621 exists, when you have specific s*x terms like "yiff" and "murrsuit", THEN YES, it has a VERY BIG sexual side, and there's nothing wrong about it, just be honest about it
THIS. I'm a minor and even at "sfw" hours of a con I went to I saw much nsfw, especially kinky things for sale (art and harnesses etc). Like that was my first ever con and my mum was there, I don't want her to think being a furry is a sexual thing! Not to mention it did make me uncomfortable and I felt less safe after seeing that.
@@_Iemonboy.Absolutely agree on that. It's sad because the vast majority of furries are not even interested in such things when going to a con...worst part is, there is now a "wave" of furry youtubers that are actually normalizing kink in furry cons and claiming that it is inherently a sex thing. Which it isn't. It makes the rest of us look really bad. Most of us ain't buying a 2000+ suit to do dirty things. Most of us ain't wearing kink gear out in the open like that. That's just not what the furry fandom is supposed to be.
I love how people keep yapping and trying to sanitize the fandom, as if Convention 0 didn't have a goddamn Dominatrix show as it's main panel and people walking around in harnesses and other gear. The entire thing spawned for paraphillia, quit trying to pretend it isn't heavily listing towards adult oriented content.
4:06 this fursuiter may have a disability that is relatively close to Astasis (where you can't stand at all) but you can stand for short periods of time.
this crushed me. growing up, it was a dream to go to a furry convention with my sister, now that's just not possible. I hope this law gets revoked, it's just stupidity.
There are some positive things to living in the UK. The cost of living in the UK is definitely not! I really feel for you seeing what it actually costs to live in the UK.
this is more of a Hatred lgbtqia law. Not Licensing laws. it's call "Don't say Gay act" put this way. he made it to be illegal, to be lgbtqia and he believes, if young children are around them , they might turn into lgbtqia themselves.
I agree that the government shouldn't have to step in(not really sure why they did in this instance), but there should, I.M.O , be some form of regulations or rules(at-least enforced by the community) that if a convention is NOT adults only, then the explicit / kinky stuff needs to stay home. or at the VERY least, the organizers need to clearly state on whether or not that stuff will be permitted at their con. because not even all adults are comfortable with some stuff, and i don't think its too much to ask for a clear warning. I think this is a fair compromise, what do you think?
The law is specifically anti-LGBTQ and doesn't just target furries. They labeled ANYTHING LGBTQ as "adult only" and the law in question would deny permits and licenses to any group that allows minors into anything the government labels as "adult". In order to protect the con, the con staff decided it was just safer to stay 18+ rather than run any risks.
Absolutely! And here in the other states, that’s how it is most the time. Con’s explicitly state what is or isn’t allowed, and they state the age limit (normally, people under the age of 13 need a parent), but there is also a unique thing where we have an adult only time around 8-11 pm, in a designated room.
I feel that furries under the age of 18 can attend furry conventions, but with a legal adult. It’s a furry con. There will be some in appropriate stuff there and this is unlikely but someone might try to attack a few furries because that how the world is. I believe it is safest for minors such as myself to go with a trusted adult, or at least another person. But minor should not be banned from going to conventions.
Because the law's not just a one-and-done thing about banning minors from one con, it's about the principle and greater reach of the law in how it can lead to greater restriction of minors' and queer rights, if even a simple con is "too sexual" now... like, what's next? Calling any public fursuiting too sexual?
I saw you out of suit a couple of times, but didn't get to see you in suit any time :( Now I wish I'd said hi while you were out of suit 😔 Hope you had a wonderful time at Megaplex!
HII!!! As a Floridian Furry and Minor, This law has been around for too long, I feel they should allow a con for furries who are minors. The only reason it is banned is bc the government believes minors should not be exposed to “Gay things” and plus certain furries being known for finding minors attractive.
This explains it but I guess we can label Florida as the *Fun Police* aka We like to ruin to fun! (No offense at you) I guess Florida has a dark side you gotta back away like the plague!
I'm so glad mega is 18+. Adults have so few places that aren't just bars. Being able to be naughty and goofy with friends in a place where we don't have to worry about someone's kids is fantastically freeing. Keep the kids and drag queens out and let us dress up as animals and just have fun for a while.
Not to mention the harrassment from kids at furcons with fursuiters ESPECIALLY I cannot tell you how many situations I heard where a kid damaged someone's EXPENSIVE fursuit.
tbh i agree with you that more event should be made for 18+ only and must be advertised as such instead of public events with suspicious outfits allowed in.
I partially agree there shouldn't be anything like bdsm harnesses or pup hoods allowed in the conventions that allow younger people to attend, I am probably gonna be torn to shreds over saying that but its just the plain truth.
@@fintherebel5000 I totally agree. If kids are allowed then it must be kid friendly. No kink gear, no alcohol, no skimpy clothing. There are a hundred fur cons where kids can attend. Mega is one of the only ones just for adults.
In my personal belief, I believe that there should be both 18+ cons and non 18+ cons. I think it would be good to have a mix so all ages feel welcomed into the community, as the furry fandom isn't only sexual stuff.
Not true! You can still go to the con venue, the only restriction is that you are not allowed into con space. You are free to interact with furries/fursuiters in front of and around the venue ;)
@@cedarssanity That's the point, you don't have to wait! ;) Feel free to go ahead and do it, you'll absolutely love it! There are LOTS of fursuiters outside the con space at all times! ;) Don't listen to small-minded prude people who act like saints on the internet, and spread bullcrap. They'll ruin everything for you! Go out and enjoy the world ;)
I think maybe instead of making ALL of them 18+, they should just require the ones that have nothing nsfw at all to be labelled as family-friendly and the ones that have suggestive/nsfw events, panels, and areas be 18+ even if it isn't nsfw-focused. It just makes it easier to keep kids away from the nsfw areas since they could still sneak in. Although, making it 18+ in general is probably a good thing for safety reasons. Especially for huge cons where it's harder for staff to monitor people's behaviors and prevent any groomers from sneaking minors away. I don't feel like it's a huge issue to wait until you're 18 to go to the con. Yeah it sucks for people who wanted to attend one, but ultimately, it's safer and at least they didn't ban the cons entirely.
Here in Europe, all furry cons are 18+ and I think that is a good thing. If you are 15 years old and are feeling left out, all you have to do is wait for 3 years. That is not a big deal. I really wanted a fursuit, and had to wait for 12 years until I could afford it. Good things are always worth waiting for. I've been in the furry community since 1996, and the NSFW parts have always been a large cornerstone of the community. It is actually less sexual now than it was in 90s. Self expression is one of the most important parts of the furry community, and for a lot of individuals, this means NSFW attributes. People should be less bothered about harmless things such as pup masks, harnesses and BDSM gear.
i think using the word ``hateful`` for an age limit is really strong, it's not that big of a deal. why i think its kinda justified is that as a furry myself who went to a SFW meet event in my small town, i have seen grown up trying to force fetished suits under the excuse of `` freedom`` or its ``innocent`` , the issue within the furry fandom i hate is that we don't put limits or the limits are extremely blurry to the point we start to allow anything if some one whine loud enough.
The law in question is specifically intended to target LGBTQ+ labeled events. The law is hateful because it labels literally everything even remotely attached to being LGBTQ as "adult"
@@Nix_Shepherd age limit is not hatefull...its not only about my experience but the fandom in general do very little to prevent fetishes and kinks to be exposed to the public and we really need to fix that first instead of making up excuses for it...
@@Nix_Shepherd another thing that anime conventions do is at least separate minors and adults areas with badges and I.D must be provided . 18+ cosplay, fan services or items and kinks are only allowed late at night no tolerance policy if you don't have a badge or wear suspicious outfits you are told to go to the adult area or just leave and yes they check every single badge and ID before letting you in these areas and this time i was at a big event.
@@arvurebantra7639 the thing is that the video is specially speaking about furry events and not the law in general that i think should be adressed in another video. ik majority of the furry fandom is part of the LGBTQ but some people just want to be furries as a cosplay hobby and my issue is mostly about the fact the fandom don't do much against the NSFW aspect of the fandom and start to allow anything in Diapers, S. gears, or oversized body parts walking free in day despite the ``rules`` and the worst part is that we excuse it like ``it's not a big deal``....and even like recently pup play that was something a apart from the community we start to slowly allow it in and excuse it..
As someone that worked this conversation this year and has a 12 year old that would love to be able to attend I completely agree! I think making it be that they must be accompanied by an adult is a great suggestion, but I also think taking it one step further and maybe having an adult only time will also help. The conversation goes on every night until 3am or later with some things. Having say a curfew for anyone under 18 after say 9 or 10Pm would also be helpful. Unfortunately the way Floridas laws are currently written it’s going to be real tricky to be able to have anyone attend under 18 without asking for trouble from law enforcement and the state.
Note that the "adult section" of the dealers den was behind an ID check line and visual barriers. So even though everyone is already 18+ they decided to add even more security to ensure no accusations of grooming or whatever.
Just because a con is 18+ that does not mean that everyone in attendance wants to see the 18+ stuff. If I started a furry con it would be at least 18+ if not 30+ and even so everything that was 18+ would still be behind closed doors.
@Donkeyearsa true, but my comment was meant to push back against the narrative by non-furs that a child could just walk in and see explicit material for sale.
I get that. I prefer +18 cons and events, myself! The problem is that it was made ILLEGAL. This is due to the continued attacks on queer identity and how conservative politics have been spreading misinformation about the furry community and linking it with drag & trans issues. See the ‘litter box in gender neutral bathrooms,’ myth. Since furries are already seen as weird, claiming they identify as animals and linking it with gender neutral bathrooms is clearly an attack against trans issues. Think back to pre-gay marriage and how people would be like, “what’s next, they’re gonna let us marry animals??” It’s an attempt to remove humanity from queer identity, and what better target than the anthropomorphic animal community? I absolutely understand the frustration of having little hangout options outside of bars, trust me I’m a recovering alcoholic. But this is clearly an attack on queer people and not an issue of creating more space for adults; in-fact, it’s there to create less space for queer kids to go and learn about identity, while also linking queerness & kink to sexual deviancy.
I find it weird how you just brush past people wearing kink stuff like it isn’t a big deal, it sounded like you was saying it’s okay for kids to be around? (I don’t hate furries, so don’t assume that) You also clearly missed people wearing weird ass shirts like “I love daddy’s” Just because you couldn’t see much 18+ stuff doesn’t mean it’s safe still, they are still going to be creeps, even in a normal cosplay con there will always be creeps, so I kinda agree with the fact most should be 18+ and teens / kids should have there own cons where there isn’t allowed adults unless it’s with a family member / guardian. Just my opinion.
This isn't as bad as seeing shirts and hats being worn by boys in high school saying "I ❤ hot moms", and I have seen that while in high school before. (I'm 19 now btw)
Kink stuff like pup masks? In that context, nothing kinky was going on, no one was doing anything weird, so in that moment, unless you knew what it was, there was little functional difference between it and a fursuit head. As for the "I love dads" shirt, people wear much worse (ahegao hentai shirts) in public and around high schools all the time, as someone who recently graduated. I think, honestly, a kids only one could be worse since it would be easier for a creep to pretend to be a parent or guardian than for a kid to pretend to be a few years older, at least, the consequences would be worse if it happened if my eyes
My take: All cons should be 18+ UNLESS the convention itself EXPLICITLY allows people under 18. It satiates their 'furries are sexual' bullshit, AND makes it less likely for a convention to take such a big responsibility as monitoring convention content, to be taken lightly, while simultaneously not keeping a choke-hold on conventions.
I think it should be 13+ with a parent/guardian, and 16+ can be without a guardian, but no adult stuff, and 18+ can do whatever. I think this so younger kids don't wander into 18+ stuff they don't know about, since 13+ kids already know some 18+ stuff, and are not easily influenced. And 18+ sections should be blocked off and need I.D. to enter. Boom, solution
You are right. 12-13 year olds already saw everything NSFW related on the internet because they already went looking for it. They are biologically mature enough and naturally interested. The only thing seeing a harness can cause them is a boner.. or being turned on... People should come out to the real world instead of acting like saints on the internet and creating drama all the hekkin' time!!
I like the idea there are more 18+ cons. Im 28 and dont want to interact with Karen and her kids. It is fine to leave a few all ages so the young furs can go to something but I like the options.
I agree, Megaplex should not be required to be 18+. However there is value to 18+ cons and I wish we had more of them. Things like Pup hoods should not be a drama starter especially if the person is fully clothed and is otherwise family Friendly.
As someone who use to vend at Furcons, specifically selling adult material, I actually completely agree with this law. In fact, a friend of mine was just talking about how Furcons should be 18+. Here’s why: there are WAY too many deplorable people who either run these conventions or are friends with deplorable people. For example, “Growlie”, a notorious Growlieth fursuiter from OC, California, has been convicted and charged with multiple crimes involving minors. Despite most of the furry fandom from CA knowing this, and being outraged by it, he is STILL ALLOWED AT CONVENTIONS! Why? Well, we know he’s buddies with the people who run Further Confusion in San Jose, CA. Another example is Inked Fur. The guy who runs the company was caught giving advice to other furries on how to groom minors. This was apart of a infamous telegram chat log full of Zoosadists a couple years back. Despite this, last time I checked he’s STILL VENDING AT CONS!! There’s so many other examples I can give. But sadly, it’s the reason why I don’t go to conventions anymore. Being open minded and accepting is ok, until it allows predators to be at these conventions. Heck, even the Burned Furs back in the 90’s called out the obscene behavior they saw in hotel lobby’s around non-furs. Let us not forget what happened at the last Rainfurest. Now, allot of you guys are saying “they should have a parent”. But when your a teenager, allot of these parents allow their kids to go on their own. Not knowing there is sadly a seedy underbelly of the community. Plus, the benefit for the convention is they won’t have to worry about lawsuits if minors are being targeted. And, adults can be adults.
We fight back what we deserve! The government is ruining life's of the people who do what they love😢 and its not fair!? Like this comment if you agree that the government needs to stop! And let us do what we love!
I was there and, yeah personally I think it is nice for the con to be 18+ I know its a bit unfair and, maybe they could do say 14+ or something instead of 18, but as someone who was suiting i am honestly glad I didn't have to worry about young children running about. I loved the con how it was, was one of the best weekends of my entire life
Do understand that fear. After all, my suit rather fights me on looking down. Some kid runs up and enters my blind zone... I'm punting them half way across the room. It does work for a deer, though. Forced to be cautious... and slow.
@@jupreindeer hahahaha I get it! I was a sergal, found out exactly where the "sergal vision" meme comes from, because WOW that thing was wicked to look out of. The friendly cheese callouts from people never got old tho I love that
Has anyone stopped to ask why? What happened that made that even a thought and if so why? Like just think of the nature behind it in general and automatically of there are adult themes or even conversations being had what makes you think that there will be a solid filter between the 2. Posing ot as a dangerous law just because you went to a con doesn't negate the reason the law was made and over exaggerates and miss labels a law to the point of weaponizeing a community against it . Case and point the law isn't strictly a "anti furry law" but rather a law preventing under 18 people from attending anything with 18+ content which you chose to leave out of your post. Which again just invites undo hate towards something making sure kids stay kids
Ok I don't think you understand why minors were banned from furcons. Granted I can admit it's a bit extreme for a full on ban. But I can also see the reasons behind it and can agree with some of it. The idea of a minor being in an lgbtq space is literal grooming, I dont mean like nsfw grooming, I mean manipulating and warping the minor's mind into thinking a specific way. The lgbtq is an inherently sexual community and it deals with a lot of adult topics which minors have no buisness being around. On top of that furries literally originate in adult based content, not to say it's all just a kink, but on its own due to how open furries are about sexuality and lewd topics, it's hard to moderate and keep things 100% sfw when kids are around. This is not me saying simply being a furry is nsfw, as being a furry just means you hold an interest in anthro characters and media relating to them, but the culture the furr fandom was founded on was inherently adult in nature and it's been normalized to the point where it's hard to moderate without someone getting offended. There is also the issue of the immaturity of minors where they will see the suits as a good and positive thing and will want to wear one everywhere, even tho public suiting is very much awkward and in schools they most likely will get bullied for it, adult furries are very much aware of how the furry fandom is treated, but minors will receive backlash they wouldn't expect and it will effect their mental state
as my first furry convention i felt it was more safe having the convention 18+ plus with this year having the night market they kinda had to make it that way but it was still a remarkable experience and i cant wait till 2026 to go again
I’m a 13yr old furry whom doesn’t go to fur-cons simply cause there are none near me, but if I lived in Florida with a fur-con near me I’d be fucking upset, minors can start thinking their hobbies aren’t ‘normal’ cause they have restrictions like this. Lift this law.
Finally FINALLY!!!!!❤ here in Germany you have to be 18 to get on a furry convention 😋that’s soooo normal and it’s good that this is now in this state so 😌
After travelling around many places. I can say with experience.. 18+🔞 furry conventions are so much more fun!😍 The number of adults hanging around with adults. No kids around to be needing supervised or everything being censored. They are much more fun. Should it be illegal? That is stupid. But they should have a fair few options to choose from. The acceptance of the majority of all fur cons should be inclusive of all ages. Is not a good thing. When it comes to understanding the furry con experience & culture. Bouncing around from Europe & and the USA. I find lots who experience an 18+ will prefer them more so. Not all, however, a higher number.
I don't know what the issue is, all european cons are 18+ for the legal headaches that you don't need to worry about if you were gonna have minors there.
As a 12-year-old who is a Therain, I think maybe kids can go if over 13 and have an adult but I think this is a better way than banning all under 18-year-olds
honestly, i went to MFF in December. there was honestly too many people in kink outfits there. like, it was nice to see some of the outfits, but there were so many kids there that it made me more uncomfortable than interested in them... no hate to anyone there, but a bit too much lewdness.
I believe the issue is (and I stand firmly with this because there have been many stories and examples in the past) there's secret sexual things that happen in these cons behind closed doors and not everybody checks other people's ages when they're in the suit. They just *assume* that they're over 18 because they're there. I believe there should be a separate con ran by parents/guardians that will keep things safe for anyone *under* 18. Not everything is so black and white in these cases unfortunately. The con looks very fun as an adult's POV but in a "keep it safe" POV there's some "behind closed doors" activities that happen that not everybody is fully aware of.
Unpopular opinion, all furcons should be 18+ cause people are gonna wear kink gear every hour of the day despite rules and cons regulate that really poorly (no problem with kink gear in the right places/ times). There were people walking around in diapers at Megaplex just whenever, kids should NOT see that, I as a grown ass adult do not want to see that. Just cause the cause was 18+ doesn't mean it's NSFW all day.
As a minor and a furry from the state of Florida, this law is extremely harmful. I’ve always wanted to attend a convention + draw in and participate within the furry fandom, however, since local law has banned minors from even attending these conventions, it makes my parents and family + other adults related to me very wary and be generally repulsed by anything relating to the fandom. If I even dare draw or talk about anthropomorphic animals, I get shut down and scolded, told that it’s an “adults-only thing.” I believe that this could be a direct result of the law and it is harmful to young furs down in the southern U.S. I’d love to attend Megaplex when I come of age, though! :)
Ehhh...I live in Florida and I've got mixed views. I've never been to MegaPlex, personally, but I've gotten an impression on what people I knew going to it had said over time. The specific law is the Protection of Children Act. SB 1438 on the Florida Senate website. It's less than a page to read in full if anyone wants to read it, assuming it's the bill being spoken of here. I gave it a read and it didn't really specify as to how LGBT groups were being specifically targeted. It could apply to any nightclub regardless if it was LGBT-focused or not. My confusion came with how anime cons are run down here in comparison. At MetroCon, Holiday Matsuri and the like, we have rules in place for adult content already. It's up to the hosts (artists, panelists, etc) to take care of that by checking for ids. If it's an adult-oriented con event, they operate by those same standards. That's how the cons I've been to have always run. I haven't heard of any of the cons in Florida change their protocol because of the act ruling. I thought this was how Mega operated as well to some extent, but it's only been Mega that did so as a precaution? And it led me to wonder if there was something that happened for them to reflexively make it +18. That's more of a conspiracy theory, though. I'm inclined to say it's more of a precaution than an incident. Could be a financial incentive as well. I think it may be worth noting that prior to this law, Mega has always had a rule that you could wear kink gear with a condition. I'm not including "harnesses for the sled dog+fursuit", because that's not what I mean here. You could only wear your leather hood and just that in public on the con floor at any time. Anything more overt for pet play was to be saved for the later at reasonable hours. I guess it created a weird atmosphere where you may have had adults with just their hoods on in their pup headspace interacting with minors in public, but I've never heard of an incident where that was the case at Mega. I'm in the odd camp where I prefer for things to be less vague and feel weird being around kids where kink is over some thought over time. That's probably just my jimmies being rustled. I've never seen them at the anime cons during the day. So this is why I have mixed feelings. On one hand, Mega is now more of a space for adults to feel far more comfortable with engaging with adult stuff. We've always had more adult-oriented furry events in Florida. Like Elliot's. And I think we at one point had a Halloween-themed furry camp con back in....2007-ish? Furloween? It comes at the cost of Florida losing its only dedicated furry con for a general audience as far as I know of. There's plenty of adults who don't want to be around kink gear at furry events, so we have to settle for fur meets and other cons (like anime cons) to meet in the interim for something similar to Mega pre-18ification. If you're in an area where there are no fur meets and relied solely on Mega, the con's decision left you SOL. The only solution I can think of is for a con to form to catch that demographic, which will be an undertaking. And sometimes furry meets can fail you. Especially if they're the kind that say they don't permit any adult stuff, but will make very odd exceptions. I've seen leather pups push to be included in such spaces saying with statements like "I use it to decompress" and "I didn't know pup play was BDSM, I thought it was furry"....despite pup play preceeding the furry fandom by a few decades. 😑
I really don't think this law needed to be enacted. Children can still go to furry cons as long as they are accompanied by their parent or guardian. No offense but, furry cons should be SFW because once we furries protest to get this dangerous law lifted, children will be welcomed back to furry cons and we want to make sure no children become offended or desensitized by NSFW content.
The law doesn't specifically target furry cons, it's more aimed at anything the Florida government deems "adult". And that includes anything LGBTQ+ related.
Megaplex did get better after that law was passed. 18+ and 21+ have been the best cons I have ever gone to. Also to note Megaplex has the most and best room parties of any con I have gone to.
Been in the furry fandom for most of my life at this point and people really try to underplay the sexual aspects of it. IMO minors shouldn't be allowed at furcons. Furry has always been about more than OOOH FLUFFY ANIMALS, and it has always been more unique than any other fandom because it's been something for adults and as much as people like to deny it: for sexual exploration/expression/freedom. Furry IS weird and you should be PROUD to be "weird".
Tbh I don’t see this as a problem I feel like most things of today need a 18+ wall. But as long as there’s an attentive parent that doesn’t blindly send their kid into a fandoms convention. That will also actually pay attention to things within the fandom, and is actively steering their child away from any adult content. I feel like that’d be the only exception, but I don’t believe this is a bad decision.
Its actually not that bad but also bad. In germany it was and i think still is Legal but most conventions do not allow minors not even with a guardian or parent for the simple fact of insurance and risk when something should happen. Also the whole Age checking at entrances to the Dealers Den and other things and alcoholic beverages. Yes it is a bummer but it is in the end supposed to protect minors
As someone who was groomed as a minor by the more NSFW parts of the community, this is a good law. There are parts of the community that a child shouldn’t experience, and until the community actually starts policing itself and expelling minors and groomers alike, more of these laws will be implemented.

I HAVE 2 FUCKING SOLUTIONS BRO 👹👹👹 1. A minor can bring a legal guardian 2. MAKE A CONVENTION STRICTLY FOR MINORS (no alcohol, no clubs, no inappropriate stuff, and so on-)
Yeah, after seeing this, that doesn’t make any sense. As a British furry myself. I don’t see how any of that should be restricted to 18+ when most of furry cons usually have an 18+ area anyway 😅😊😅
This law is all about control and domination of a vulnerable minority (furries) by another minority with power (GOP). As an aside, I totally disagree that removing teen furries makes a furcon better to the point that I chose not to like your video. I am 61 YO and a legitimate retired Boomer, and I want to see them there.
It's actually about controlling LGBT+ people. The law was against cross dressing/drag, furries weren't specifically targeted. Some pride parades also canceled themselves over this. The GOP is absolutely out of control.
Okay, I get why this is a bad thing, especially given context, yet I wouldn't mind having a couple of purely 18+ furcons because among other things it allows you to actually enjoy yourself because you don't have to be "family friendly" of course as I said in this context it's horrible and frankly disgusting.
solution: minors can attend with a legal parent of guardian
Alot of cons already do this which people who aren't inherently furries are the ones who pass the laws so of course they are going to be incredibly ignorant and not know that this is a thing

Uhm what? Some of this seems like a stretch, and some of this seems like a red flag huh??

That's common in Europe! XD so many cons are 18+ only. And they thrive! In fact, more people want to come because it is 18+ only. They often have One Open Day where people under 18 are allowed to visit, but not access the dealer's den and some parts of the con. But the cons usually arrange something fun for them to watch and interact with.
I can get behind that showing the locals that furry is not the bogyman but keeping kids out of adults hair who just want to enjoy the furry con brat free.
you see hes attacking the big stuff when it really only applies to the important small stuff. aka the "wait i don't have to do that anymore exhale"

I think this is a fair compromise, what do you think?
Most cons already have very clear guidelines about what is allowed and what is not. I don't see where's the problem.
The law is specifically anti-LGBTQ and doesn't just target furries. They labeled ANYTHING LGBTQ as "adult only" and the law in question would deny permits and licenses to any group that allows minors into anything the government labels as "adult".

@@arvurebantra7639 the thing is that the video is specially speaking about furry events and not the law in general that i think should be adressed in another video. ik majority of the furry fandom is part of the LGBTQ but some people just want to be furries as a cosplay hobby and my issue is mostly about the fact the fandom don't do much against the NSFW aspect of the fandom and start to allow anything in Diapers, S. gears, or oversized body parts walking free in day despite the ``rules`` and the worst part is that we excuse it like ``it's not a big deal``....and even like recently pup play that was something a apart from the community we start to slowly allow it in and excuse it..
furry con should be split 18+ and all ages, there always have creeps drag everyone into mud.
Adults have so few places that aren't just bars
(I don’t hate furries, so don’t assume that)
You also clearly missed people wearing weird ass shirts like “I love daddy’s”
Just because you couldn’t see much 18+ stuff doesn’t mean it’s safe still, they are still going to be creeps, even in a normal cosplay con there will always be creeps, so I kinda agree with the fact most should be 18+ and teens / kids should have there own cons where there isn’t allowed adults unless it’s with a family member / guardian.
I'm going to agree with him. It should be the Conventions decision to be 18+ not the government. And that should go for any convention.
My take:
All cons should be 18+ UNLESS the convention itself EXPLICITLY allows people under 18.
It satiates their 'furries are sexual' bullshit, AND makes it less likely for a convention to take such a big responsibility as monitoring convention content, to be taken lightly, while simultaneously not keeping a choke-hold on conventions.
YIHFF
Children shouldn't be at those events at all considering the high percentage of groomers in that "community".
Yeah and I thought furries would know that about now.
Wtf are you 12 and only seen the bad side
Sorry to say but there is atleast 1 gr**mer in EVERY fandom
I think it should be 13+ with a parent/guardian, and 16+ can be without a guardian, but no adult stuff, and 18+ can do whatever. I think this so younger kids don't wander into 18+ stuff they don't know about, since 13+ kids already know some 18+ stuff, and are not easily influenced. And 18+ sections should be blocked off and need I.D. to enter. Boom, solution
But what about the kids under 13
No at least 12+
@@DyllinJohnsen They don't enter?...
You are right. 12-13 year olds already saw everything NSFW related on the internet because they already went looking for it. They are biologically mature enough and naturally interested. The only thing seeing a harness can cause them is a boner.. or being turned on... People should come out to the real world instead of acting like saints on the internet and creating drama all the hekkin' time!!
yeah, a sound solution.

Because the furry community is infamous for having tons of predators. You know it's true, I know it's true. Let's not sugar-coat it.
I 100% agree with "ALL" furry conventions being 18+ but its the cons making the choice being 18+ and not the law making the convention to be 18+.
I’m 13, a furry, and therian, and fictionkin, and I must say
*I DONT CARE ABOUT THE RULES!!!!!!!*
Instead of banning kids from a fandom that should be for children why not fix the cons and get rid of the creeps and inappropriate stuff?
kind of hard to when there is a lot of them to look after. A security guard cant be everywhere at once
I agree the decision should be up to the individual cons not the government
That's pretty standard with EU cons. Attendees have to be at the age of 18 or older to reg
We fight back what we deserve! The government is ruining life's of the people who do what they love😢 and its not fair!? Like this comment if you agree that the government needs to stop! And let us do what we love!
As a teen furry I wish I was there. I hope fur conventions exist when I grow up :(
I was there and, yeah personally I think it is nice for the con to be 18+
I know its a bit unfair and, maybe they could do say 14+ or something instead of 18, but as someone who was suiting i am honestly glad I didn't have to worry about young children running about.
I loved the con how it was, was one of the best weekends of my entire life
Do understand that fear. After all, my suit rather fights me on looking down. Some kid runs up and enters my blind zone... I'm punting them half way across the room. It does work for a deer, though. Forced to be cautious... and slow.

All my under 18 furrys👇!

The solution should be don't let people put rules into place for things they don't fully understand
As a furry. Hate it or not. I kinda agree for the law implemented for the state.
Every convention in Europe is 18+ even if they don't have adult themed events/sections. I don't see a problem here.
Sadly 80% to 90% of furry community lead online normal role play to sexual role play
So this law make sense
Finally FINALLY!!!!!❤ here in Germany you have to be 18 to get on a furry convention 😋that’s soooo normal and it’s good that this is now in this state so 😌
After travelling around many places. I can say with experience.. 18+🔞 furry conventions are so much more fun!😍
The number of adults hanging around with adults.
I can see why kids can’t go 💀
I don't know what the issue is, all european cons are 18+ for the legal headaches that you don't need to worry about if you were gonna have minors there.
The law says *adult entertainment events*
I dont see the issue
As a 12-year-old who is a Therain, I think maybe kids can go if over 13 and have an adult but I think this is a better way than banning all under 18-year-olds
1:59: Saw a person in a Midnight Lycanroc fursuit.
I love furries. I don't understand why it should be banned if its just how ppl see themselves.
honestly, i went to MFF in December. there was honestly too many people in kink outfits there. like, it was nice to see some of the outfits, but there were so many kids there that it made me more uncomfortable than interested in them... no hate to anyone there, but a bit too much lewdness.
Bro has a point fr
W opinion lad
For what it's worth, they probably do fursuit parades in mornings because of cooler mornings(?)
finally got a fursuit and megaplex is the only con in my area, only to find out this law was a thing lol
Me who 16: Come on man 💀
Ehhh...I live in Florida and I've got mixed views.
@@arvurebantra7639 Oh, you're right. If it is not SFW, keep the kids out!
@@ResidentRudi Are you saying that being LGBTQ+ is "NSFW"? I am really confused by your response here...

I do find the law to be a bit unfair.
By the way, I went there on Saturday, August 31st. It was my first time going, and I loved it. I came as myself.
Ron Desantis is a great governor for Florida.
As someone who was groomed as a minor by the more NSFW parts of the community, this is a good law. There are parts of the community that a child shouldn’t experience, and until the community actually starts policing itself and expelling minors and groomers alike, more of these laws will be implemented.
2:19 we all know him:))
I dont
Yep :3
it's highly likely 99 out of 100 people who passed that law have never stepped foot in a furry convention
