the way I see it, it a city should not have multiple furry cons a year, rather, it should be spread out to multiple cities within a state, such as cities that didn't have a furry con before, like Austin Texas, which didn't have a convention planned until this year, I feel like if we did start planning more furry cons to different cities, it could be good for tourism of the hosting location and decrease the load for bigger cons like Anthrocon.
Obsoletely! They are more roomy, less stressful I find, and it’s easier to find your friends and do things you wanna do. Thanks for making this video! I went to a first year con in my state. It had just shy of 1k attendees! I hope to go to more meetups and cons in the future, if funds and health allow that is. 🥲 Edit: Spelling mistake.
I was planning to move to San Jose since it was the only city in the United states i knew of that had two furry conventions, as well as being close to a third in San Fransisco and not being to far from a fourth in LA, or from Defcon in Nebraska. It looks like my career is going to take me to Rahway NJ, and i don't think anything would make me happier as a furry to have four or so conventions within driving distance.
As much as it’s nice to say “spread the love” it’s entirely up to the people that live in that city to set it up. You’ll be hard pressed to find someone wanting to start a convention from the ground up in a city/county/state they aren’t familiar with, for a lot of reasons.
Atlanta has two comic-con-like conventions, Dragoncon and Momocon, both are massive and from what I can tell don't interfere with each other, then there's Anime Weekend Atlanta if you want to include that and all three have great attendance and have different vibes so yeah I totally think it's possible for furry conventions to do this. I'll also toss in that yes Atlanta has a furcon as well. Having 4 huge local conventions a year is awesome even if only one is specifically furry.
Half the fun of watching people's videos is trying to see how many of my friends I can spot. At 2:32 is BC Breakaway, who's kicking off a brand new furry convention (CalFurry) in Calgary, AB in 2025, with said con's Mascot right behind him.
I don't care how many of them there are in a year, I just wish hotels and con tickets weren't so expensive that you have to make high end of 5 figures a year to get to go. and I'm saying that =as someone lucky to make 4 figures in a year. The total cost of an entire weekend at one of these events, including hotel costs, whould total to like, idk, 100 bucks at most, and I'm DEAD serious when I say that. Hotels have NO excuse being so expensive. At all. Zero reason, period. I just don't get why travel has to be this prohibitive. Like this issue definitely extends beyond the scope of conventions themselves, but the hotels being literally like half a month's rent for a few days is definitely a part of the issue for sure. Where else are congoers gonna sleep?
Listen, I understand the frustration and the rant but hotels absolutely have the ability to charge that much. They get sold out in a month. If they charged less, it would just be, who can click the checkout button faster. Travel is a luxury, it is not easily accessible, it has never been easily accessible- actually, long distance travel is around as cheap as it ever has been. Going to 2+ or 3+ furry cons a year is just simply not in the cards for most people, it is a luxury, and it is not the world's fault that you cannot do that. People charging less than they can is not the solution. Do you want fursuit makers to charge 300, 400 a partial because that's more accessible to you?
Idk if this is related to the video, (still watching) But I saw someone else talking about the upcoming changes TO Anthrocon- Such as potentially needing to implement an attendee cap. I'm REALLY curious, if that'll change which people push to go to the con? Or if it'll stay the same, and or become a battle about it. To clarify what I mean, is I wonder if the people who can afford everybody and their grandmas cons- Like religiously go to absolutely every single con they feasibly can, I wonder if those people might sit back a little if cons start implementing a cap. Would they chose to sacrifice a couple to free up that space? Would they go the same as usual no matter the changes? I'm curious to see :0
it looks like fun maybe for my own local con, I should do some filing for it(I could use my phone but if I want some equipment to go along with it to help keep it steady) But I want to do more IRL furry content but so far I've done mostly photos, been to some fur meets, trying to grow via social media etc..thinking about making cute stickers of my fursona.
something like a six flags or Kings Dominion should have furry phantom place me some be a good idea I know Disney universal work over there it'll be nice and be safe just maybe 🤔🦺🦺🦺🦺❤️🩹🐗

Vancouver, BC has always had more than one Furry Convention for years...
Howl was an event not a full con before
@@SpamBoar I'm aware... it was on the cusp of becoming one over a decade ago...
During the parade it’s fun to try and spot furry TH-camrs
That con looked like so much fun!! Also Spam got the moves! 👏
Thanks I tried to dance as silly as possible lol

The dancers can never be any worse than the Australian breakdancer
