Well in my opinion I think like you said there should be like designated cons with 21+ or 18+. However excluding is one thing that I think a lot of furs look down upon (including myself) so maybe certain cons don’t have to be age restricted. But at the same time, there should be certain cons that had more higher age range considering that there could be a lot of “inappropriate” content. Idk that’s just me 😅
EF is 18+(makes it easier to deal with youth protection laws in Germany) und tbh? I think it's for the best. Let's face it, adults are still the majority at cons as they have the disposable income. Adults do adult things, sometimes without regard for possible minors around them. as a teen furry, i feel like there should be minor only cons as well (with the parents attending ofc), especially when if your family is new to furry stuff, it’s embarrassing explaining to your parents for “family friendly” cons that you wouldn’t be able to go out certain times bc of “ad hours” and seeing a glimpse of those 18+ sections when i want my family to think positively about the furry fandom, ofc adults can have their own space, i just don’t want my family to think furry = kink.
For this the first question would be who does the "Minor only" rule apply to. Does it also apply for the vendors (sorry I mean specifically the people like the artists and such in the dealer's den)? If not then do the vendors only get to Be Vendors and can't roam the con afterwards. Unless you meant just "PG only con"

Tbh I think we should have some 18+ and 21+ cons, but most should be all ages. I have experience being a teenager in the fandom, and my local con (MFF) was a great way to express myself and have a good time. Even though I'm almost 18 now, I don't think we should take that opportunity away from other people like that, especially if we want to be a fandom of acceptance and diversity. Still, I think we should have some 18+ and 21+ cons for people who want it. What I'm saying is we should strike a balance
As someone who has been in the fandom since I was 12 and am now in my 20's, I think the biggest danger to minors in the fandom is found online. As long as a furcon has proper rules against any kink gear and adult behaviors, children should be allowed with adult supervision. You can go to a lot of concerts and events by yourself being 16+ and I think that's reasonable. I would rather my hypothetical child experience the fandom by seeing fursuits and art in person, rather than by browsing through Deviant Art or FA where they can lie about their age and see 18+ content and meet some awful people. A minor is safer in a public setting surrounded by adults and con staff than they are in a discord server that their parents don't know about. It's up to parents to look out for their own children. I also think having some cons that are 21+ sounds fun for those of us old enough to drink, or who don't want to be around kids. That con looked fun.
Since I had to go to school riding a brontosaurus I have a little more life experience. Its not just creeps that one needs to watch out for as there are adult things that adults like doing that though not exactly should be confined behind closed doors its still best for children to not to experience first hand especially since parents have different ideas of what is acceptable for their kids to experience. Its not a simple matter with saying this is acceptable and that is not acceptable. The next issue is that people who are over 21 are the ones who by the vast majority who finance the convention as they can afford to they are also the ones who run it. The cons are not fully funded by the people who buy the base membership the people who buy the extra special advanced membership are the ones who really make it happen because the con really needs that money to make the base membership as low as it is. If you check the vast majority of the people who are on the board of directors and to a lesser extent the upper staff of the conventions the vast majority of them are over 40 with just a few being between 30 and 40 and you would be hard pressed to find some who are in their 20s though there might be a couple.
I think pretending like minors don’t exist in the fandom and have no place in it is ridiculous. There should definitely still be adult only cons, not everyone wants to deal with kids, but making ALL cons 18+ sets the standard that minors aren’t accepted in the fandom. This fandom saved my life when I was a minor and I don’t think we should take that away from someone else who needs it.
Going to a con isn’t a necessity at all as a minor. I have been a furry since I was 12 and I never went to any con as a minor. Not until I was 22 did I go for the first time
even before watching the video, my stance (as a minor) is that there should be some of both. i love going to cons and have been to a handful, but ive also been to non furry events that had drunk people, which was honestly really scary. i think that having 18+/21+ cons will not only keep young furs away from intoxicated people, but also hopefully keep people from getting intoxicated at minor friendly cons.
Even not being a minor, I also don't enjoy being around drunk people and nsfw stuff. I feel having the family friendly version is nice for adults who want a cleaner environment. Like I want the option to seek either out if I so choose.

As an adult who’s asexual and doesn’t drink, I can see both sides. I personally don’t want to be involved in any adult sides of the fandom because that’s not the side of the fandom I resonate with and want to participate in, but I totally understand adults who do. Sexual themes makes me uncomfortable, so I personally avoid any 18+ areas at cons (when my friends don’t forcibly drag me along), so if all cons went 18/21+, I’d fear that some dress rules would be in constant 18+ range instead of hair during after dark hours, potentially leading to other asexuals like me, or just people not as open sexually or around alcohol, feeling alienated and uncomfortable. My personal stance is if it has a designated space and everyone is consenting and of age then great, but I still want my space where I can be comfortable and still have fun.
All this said, I also don’t want to be around just kids, and would prefer to be around people my age, idk. I honestly think the best solution is to have designated 18/21+ zones/hours, kind of like how TFF did this year.
As a younger fur myself, It's great seeing adults thrive in their own environments! And there definitely should be more spaces made for 18+ or older furries. That being said I still believe there should be spaces for minors as well (i would still like to join the fun, haha). Though considering the comment section I think we generally agree with this lol. Just because theres one or two 18+ or 21+ cons doesnt mean theres isn't already a dozen all ages cons.
I've been in the fandom for about 15 years. I genuinely think that excluding minors is a terrible idea. Sure, I dont personally like interacting with them all that much. But they make up such a large portion of the fandom and arent really hurting anyone. I think Id rather be at an event where everyone is sober anyways. Dealing with drunks is *always* awful.
The point of a Furry is that they like the idea of Anthropomorphic Cartoon Animals with human characteristics, if cons become only for adults, then the future kids won't enjoy Furries anymore, a hobby is a hobby no matter what, it's not a "you can go if you 21+". Leave the furry conventions still at family friendly.
Speaking as a 35year old adult, I don't think all cons should be 21+ or even 18+ I love that the fandom is growing, I never had it as a kid, and I want to see it continue to grow. And if we exclude minors, it might make some of them resent the community and turn on the fandom altogether, because they have to watch something they can never enjoy or participate in for a decade. Now what I would be fine with, is maybe cons implement a curfew, "adult only hours", or maybe adult only sections and panels. Or maybe the con is open to minors the first 2 days, but then the last day of the con is adults only. I know it's hard to deal with the age gaps, but we gotta be fair to our youngsters.
Some people don't understand that if all cons suddenly go 18 or 21+ not only will cons lose a percentage of their attendees, they will lose a good percentage of money due to less attendees also meaning artists/dealers won't sell as much due to half their customers being cut off. Seen people talk about how relaxing it is not having to look over their shoulders for minors when in reality if that's the case your the problem not the minors. Also hate the fact how people say "they can wait an easy 3-6 years to attend" when their the ones who don't have to wait at all. The furry fandom is a place for everyone and for people to try to make the most common thing in the fandom which is conventions only for adults because yall can't act responsible in public.
Of course it should be 21+.. it's literally Vegas... Not really a place for kids when people walk around BARELY covered. There's a time and place when minors should be able to participate in simple furry fun but that is definitely not the place.

I stopped going to cons and meets after 2019. The growing "frat party" and "exclusive friend groups" mentality the younger furs have burned me out. When I first got involved with furry in 2008 or so it welcomed everyone and people would do their damndest to make you feel welcome and like you belonged. Now it's all about he said, she said, throwing each other under the bus for the slightest reasons, and is generally just a toxic atmosphere that overshadows the good and fun parts. I miss the old fandom. 😢
I’m still only 16 but I agree with this so much 😞 when I first joined this fandom it felt so much more accepting and chill than it does now… now there is so much petty and unnecessary drama and toxicity. But I know there are still a lot of good furries out there and I try to have hope. I still plan to go to cons in the future even if they don’t feel the same… but the change does genuinely makes me sad
I don't necessarily agree with that anymore as that's been mellowing down somewhat. There's a lot of new furs after the pandemic, which caused a forcing domino effect of people having to meet new people. There's friend groups (as is natural) but so far as to my perception people just fit in where they feel they belong. There's a LOT of options in the fandom nowadays. At least, that's the case here in Europe.
My opinion on this is that cons could have certain hours or areas for 13+ or even only 13-17 and then have others only 18/21+ so the young ones can still enjoy a convention but also the adults can enjoy it without kids
I kinda like the idea of a teens only con, however, I feel like there should be parents or other chaperones present to prevent any mayhem from breaking loose and keeping the event orderly, but I think it could be arranged and could possibly be a really interesting idea.
Honestly imo, a majority of furry conventions should still exist for all ages or at least 13/16+ to keep the drunkards in line even if they are currently in a 21+ environment. What if my future kid was also a furry and that I wanted to make some memories with him by taking him on a pilgrimage to Anthrocon? Is it that hard to make a good furry convention that’s accessible to the young people??

I think the best option is a mix some of all 3. while it is good to have all ages cons because they allow people of all ages to enjoy the con and the fandom, a 18+ con allows for more mature activities and a environment where older people don't have to worry about younger people or restricting their selves or their fun. I think the same for 21+ cons, just with the addition of not having to worry about people doing things underaged to an even further extent. cons of different ages allow different kinds of fun, activities, events, more and different self expression, and less stress or concern about others and safety at the con. limiting the cons to 18+ or 21+ keeps younger members from expressing themselves, having safe spaces, and experiencing the fandom as a whole. So I say a mix of all 3 is the answer.
as a sober adult, 21+ cons kinda sound like hell on earth. i went to my first con as a minor and i felt safe- i would feel super unsafe at events like the ones you showed in your video.
As a 21 year old, LVFC looks like it would be an uncomfortable experience for me (not super comfortable around lots lf alcohol and such), but that doesn't mean I don't think spaces like this should happen. Having a 21+ con is cool, though I think I'd prefer to have it more on the rare side. Too many of these cons would probably make me feel outcasted from the fandom. The great thing about all ages cons are that by the time people usually start drinking or smoking or whatever, I've already pretty much retired to my room and can choose to not be around it.

The UK also doesn't think it's appropriate to acknowledge same-sex relationships exist to minors either; which is kinda draconian and backwards. Some conventions are kept family friendly , some aren't; but there's a growing push to exclude all minors anyhow.
Should we reject kids in the fandom and pretend their energy and creativity has no place here? Absolutely not. Do I personally give a damn? Nope, don't like dealing with kids, love the idea of a 21+ con and there's plenty other cons they can go to. As a minor (16) i think there should be some all ages events, but also +18 (+21 for the EEUU) cons are very important, even i undestand not everything needs to be family friendly in the fandom, all the restriction of a event to be all ages can really ruin fun to people, but so it wont hurt some more all ages/minors allowed if they are +x age events, sorry for bad english btw
I'm personally all for having some cons be adults only. The one I go to every year, furlandia has had issues with minors sneaking in (most of these kids being 10-13), not paying for registration, not having a legal gradian with them, stealing from vendors, trashing the place, and staying well after the daylight hours had ended. This isn't only shitty parenting, fucking over the con on numbers, literally breaking the law through stealing, but it's also SO unsafe for the kids themselves, yes the fandom is safe most of the time but you never know. I think by having adult-only cons, incidents like these would go down so, so much, and give adults space to be adults without watching over their shoulders to make sure they don't do something around a child that they shouldn't.
Some adults only cons are a good idea but I think we gotta remember the fandom has people of all ages. As with most things,there should be some stuff anybody can go too but also some adults only stuff

I might be uninformed as I've recently turned young adult however while I think there are some cons that are okay being 18-21+ and make sense depending on what's there, where it is and other factors I think just kind of excluding minors is a good thing. Speaking from experience, trying to fit into groups and communities when a lot of them have 18+ policies can really feel alienating... and considering the fact that every easily impressionable kid is going to jump on the "Furries are the worst, they should all die!" hate train then if younger furs aren't even accepted by their own community they quite literally have nowhere to turn to. 18-21+ makes sense for some cons but I definitely don't think all or most of them should have that policy. I also fear that if cons start being 21+ then the amount of people doing sexual things there and way more risqué events and shops will pop up, with that comes more unwanted groping and touching which we know everybody loves at fur cons. :P
I think all-ages cons should exist as frequently as age-restricted cons so younger/SFW members still have a safe space. MFF 2021 was 18+ and that was probably my favorite MFF.
@@SpamBoar Just for the 2021 con, coming off of COVID, they did not allow minors as the vaccine had not been approved for minors to get in time to be effective for the con, so it was 18+ due to safety.
Look, kids exist, they will always exist in fandoms. Keeping cons for adults is always important in my opinion, I despise dealing with kids personally, but I don’t think all cons should be adult only. But there should be separate cons
A whole lot of people are gonna take this the wrong way and immediately assumes that this fandom is only for adults only, and regulate minor’s liberties of being a furry.
IMO most cons should have kids and the cons should be 18+ in general and parents or legal guardian for minors to make sure you can keep the fur con family friendly. But I think a few cons should be 21+ like in las vegas, Miami(or any fur con in Florida) and Atlanta and near Chicago only because these places well know for parties, drugs, booze, gang violence, sex and I don't want minors getting into trouble with things they shouldn't be doing.
Let’s say there’s a weekend con. Saturday should be adults only (have a hangover on Sunday where most don’t work) and Sunday is all ages (and this should apply in places like Las Vegas where it’s already mainly adults). But most should be all ages. Making all cons adults only will just make the fandom seem more like a fetish than a safe community. For myself I’ve been a fan since I was a kid, always wanted to join in the fun but in my town the community is too small to have a con. I’m 21 and barely got a dino mask to customize because I have to put my focus on college. I’d hate for young furries to not ever be able to go to a con till they’re an adult and by then more likely outgrew it. They deserve to have fun. It’s just like anime cons or gamer events.
There should be different cons, some all ages, some adult only, that way, those that wanna do adult shit can just go to the adult stuff. Although I do think 21+ is redundant cuz 18+ is the standard for adulthood. 21+ is an American law invention, 18+ is culture & internet wide assessment.
I'm a furry and a mom, my son is eleven currently and has already chosen his fursona (how a mouse and wolf birthed a protogen I'll never know) I say all this to say that even though I'm raising a young furry I still don't feel like the party atmosphere of a convention is suitable for a minor. There are too many situations that can and do turn sour due to a minor being around needlessly.
Insurance and more draconian laws forcing furcons to be more adult. But we NEED the younger furs to come in, get hooked, and later on become the new old guard as we age age and cant work the cons as staff anymore. So if we can still have furcons as open and all ages while any adult stuff is gated away it should be okay. Heck our con finally did a night market and OH an was it spicy, busy, and chaotic.
having been a furry most of my life the thing most new furs don't get is this was never really for minors and its always been gay accepting, kinky and weird its gotten way more mainstream and hence more minors and has mellowed out in a lot of ways AC having to do a lot of that trying to get it into the mainstream by presenting a kid friendly space I kinda disagree with that approach in hindsight but its what happened but I do think there should be 18+ cons like personally I don't really care but a lot of people want to be weird and kinky so I think it best if some cons allow that and others don't like trying to deny the sex aspect of furry is just absurd its a big part even if some furs want to pretend otherwise its always been a huge part of furry.
contentions should be all ages but i do believe either certain days or times should be for people 18+ or 21+ otherwise hold these conventions at other sides of the convention centre that require strict age verification
I actually started doing millions of sad backflips when I realized that the ONLY CON IN MY ENTIRE CITY DOESNT ALLOW MINORS. I kinda understand if it’s just this one or if 21+ cons exist, but alienating all minors in all cons is just ridiculous

I think that's a bit extreme. The furry fandom is an escape from people's struggles in life. High school and middle school is a very hard time for a lot of people, and I think completely shutting them out of the con experience is against the fandom's idea of acceptance. Still, I think there should be some adults only cons for those who want it

the problem with all age cons is that the inclusion of minors exclude fetishists and kinky furs, even though the furrydom and bdsm community is intreconnected. furries have historically always been kinky and having events inclusive of kink is nothing but good. of course there should still be all ages events and cons, but i think the "im a minor ACCOMMEDATE ME" culture has taken overhand. the amount of minors constantly making fun of babyfurs, diaperfurs, fetishists is anoying. who are they harming? no one. ofc not to say *all* minors are puritans, but its certainly a trend.
I went to a Night Market at Anthro New England for 2022 and 2023 and I have to say it was quite a thrill. I do agree there has to be an expansion of events such this in other cons
As i brit i still get caught off guard at the under 21 bit. When i turned 18 legal was allowed to buy alcohol tabaco get a and was fully open to the law. First thing i did when i got my photo id at 18 was walk to my local shop and grab a ready meal mac and cheese and a bottle of alcohol and just sat watching cartoons. (I had been drinking on special occasions since i was like 12) Now as 24 year old adult. I sit on my sofa in my apartment watching cartoons and have a drink every now and again.
Meanwhile in Germany mostly cons are 18+ except for maybe small cons or private meet ups cause we have some pretty strict minor protection laws like a legal curfew for minors and you can get in so much trouble for child endangerment here. In fact I can't name one con in my area that is all ages. Minor furries usually attend either local renfair type events or public city fairs or tag a long for a furry walk (my local group still requires a legal guardian to join though for...well legal reasons)
Non furry related; but if it's so hard to leave a child with a non legal guardian, can you not hire a baby-sitter, or leave a child in the charge of a 15-17 year old sibling? That seems like it would make life as a parent difficult, especially a single parent.

There should be gatherings and events designed for kids and their families, as well as ones that are strictly for adults---and Las Vegas is the perfect place for an adults-only con! What matters is that everyone can find something for them that allow them to participate in this fandom.
When I meet the furry fandom(2016) as a minor I felt very comfortable and heartwarming, acceptance was great, but as time passed on the fandom begin to intoxicating me like a drug and when I already was a adult it feels like a bad place to stay and looks more like a kink, I'm autistic and thrusting someone is hard so when I unfortunately discover that a lot of content creator on TH-cam "secretly" was doing basically p+rn in other places(with very easy access), I felt VERY uncomfortable, like they are other persons that I met, this make me fill a little sick bc if you has a adult content career and on TH-cam pretends to be family friendly, it's disconcerting and other things like the dramas, the crazy zooprides and so. The phrase "it's not a fetish" doesn't really apply in the fandom since many only use their fursonas to practice these fetishes and erotic things and tendencies 🙍🏻♂️ The furry fandom helped me a lot during a deep depression in 2018, but in 2020 and onwards it started to intoxicate me with adult content and left me addicted, it caused me a lot of harm and today I'm fine and of the many "friends" I had, I only kept a few 4, I currently consider myself a distant admirer of this culture and no longer part of it fully.
I don't think cons should be locked to +18/+21 but these days the fandom it's very toxic and harmful for those just want to make friends and maybe wants a partner without dramas and lies
I’m going to Fur-Eh this year with my mom and sibling (I’m a minor), and I’m worried that my mom might see something innapropriate. I don’t want it to paint a bad picture of our fandom, since so far she’s been supportive and seems to understand it! I don’t want that to get ruined :( I know the con has rules about not displaying 18+ stuff in areas besides 18+ spots, but I’m still worried😭😭 Does anyone have any advice or past experiences that might reassure me?
There should definitely be some adult only cons here and there but I think we should keep most cons all-ages as they currently are. Maybe with adult only events later into the night hours. I think there's room for both while keeping a good balance of fun and safety.

Maybe I'm just biased cuz I'm a minor but like I want to go to a con once I'm 16 I don't think it's a ridiculous age to go to a first con and I would be very very sad if they were all 18+ or 21+ theres so many people who are my age who want to go to a con and restricting it just seems a little silly, its not so hard to keep things kid friendly, you can even have a separation with the nsfw things that need id verification to enter The furry fandom is a very chill place, do you not think people below 18 should be able to chill as well?
I'm 20 now, but I've been in the fandom since I was like 11 (before I even knew what a furry really was, I technically had a sona so I go with that lol) and it makes me genuinely sad to see the amount of adults yelling at kiddos for just wanting a space in the community. Sure, we didn't have a SFW start as a community.. but that doesn't mean things cannot change with time. Personally, my only bad experience with kiddos in the fandom is purely online. Irl, they tend to be pretty well-behaved (at least at my local con) bc their parents are with them, and even then some are just genuinely kinda sweet and excited to express themselves. I really don't think all cons are gonna go this route like everyone is saying either, because I think it's important to have a balance and have a safe space for those with kids who want to go to cons, younger community members (not necessarily young kids, think teens and so on), or even just people who want to attend a con without seeing peens everywhere LOL. I also think people forget that some furries in the community have their own children now, so it kinda sucks that some of ya'll are barring them from their community experience as well just bc they have kids now. Ultimately, this is the con's decision and I respect whatever they think is best for them and the local community surrounding it. I love the idea of a 21+ only con tho, esp in Vegas due to Vegas being an adult friendly city anywho with all the drinking and such haha.
Welp there goes 80% of furcons. Hope kid furs dont mind not forming memories of the furry fandom until theyre adults. 😂 This has been years long coming, furries have been slowly trying to phase out minors for their safety since i entered the fandom AS a kid. Once one goes adult almost all of them will follow suit, you can expect hardly any all ages cons in the future as furries learn their comfort space is away from kids (which i dont blame them for those tails are too expensive to be tugging at)
They could easily convert to 18/21+ one in Florida did (that was because of the dictator governor down there though) that con still had record breaking attendance compared to its other years though.
I would say majority of cons, especially stuff without the size or resources of a FWA, AC, or even EF should be 18+ with more smaller specialized 21+ cons. I think LVFC paves a strong path forward for the future of cons.
I think 21+ is exessive unless it's a bar meet or specific events at cons. However, from my and many others' experience, the fandom has a much higher concentration of sexual predators than average plus many mentally-underdeveloped people even OLDER than 18. I would say rather than 21+ make the cons 18+ at the very least. Still keep the sfw atmosphere tho but highschoolers truthfully have no business at these conventions.
Honestly, That title kinda scared me. I'm 16 as of writing this comment, just now getting more into the furry stuff, even trying to make a partial fursuit for myself. The thought that I might not be able to go to these conventions until I'm at least 18, when I haven't got to do much of anything yet with it? Honestly not a fun idea. I'm 18 years old (I will be 19 years old in August) and I consider myself an adult. However the overly sexual nature of the furry fandom, if not made entirely illegal, should definately be restricted to individuals younger than 18.
HELL YES. this is what the Adults need for the cons. But We Should have Both types of cons. we Should have a more PG con for minors that's more fun and geared to Fam Friendly and has more fun things geared for that. and Adult cons can be for the Adults to enjoy and just have fun and relax for once. i don't vibe with people not around my age group and it feels F-ing weird to have just to hang around folks half my age or younger, not my crowd not my scene not my noise not my style not my monkey and not my Zoo, i want to Relax and let go I'm spending all the Damn money and i want to chill and party with folks and make friends.

So i do think there should be 18+ cons, because theres alot of NSFW material, especially in the dealers den, at regular all ages cons, and while I have no gripes with NSFW content being sold at cons, they should only be available at 18+ cons. looking one way and seeing a group of 15 year olds and looking the other way and seeing furry smut is not the best experience.
I think the major cons such as MFF, TFF, AC, etc etc should be for everyone, and of course there should be dedicated ones for people over 18+ and/or 21+. A lot of the fandom itself are children, and they want to meet other furries as well. So these cons are great places to meet people, i just think there should be some that aren’t for kids. Setting the norm of every con being 18+ will cause the fandom to decrease in people and start making it seem like kids aren’t welcome at all. Even though the original meaning of the furry fandom is finding an interest or connection to anthropomorphic animals, which is SFW *for the norm*. And like what MFF does is give designated badges to minors so sellers can be more aware.
As for cons being 18 or 21+, I think some cons like LVFC should remain as they are. I also think cons that are all-ages need strict rules to protect minors while 21+ need a different set of rules to keep it 21+

I think these 18/21 events should be mostly normal in number with the underage included events be smaller in number. Keep some of those odd ones in the 21 plus events so they don't mix with the minors at all. this is a bit harsh but looking at some of the people in this footage makes me sick and I wouldn't trust them around a child and I hope that isn't just me because I just don't like what I'm looking at sorry.
Adults are typically going to enjoy the adult stuff and others are going to enjoy family friendly cons. Both types can host all sorts of events & games & art that are fun. Remember kids & teens are a integral part of the welcoming community eventually growing up and carrying the torch for future generations. You can't just undo that esp when younger generations crave to be out there physically more than ever. There can totally be both kinds of cons, big & small.

1) saying cons should be for adults only is basically saying the issue of children being preyed upon is such a big issue that we would rather make the victims suffer by kicking them out rather than holding the people who are predatory accountable. 2) saying cons should be for adults only further perpetuates the stereotype that all furries do is fuck and take substances. although it is fine to do these things, this being the only celebrated personality alienates people who abstain from sex or substances, and completely negates the initial idea of this being a welcoming environment.
Although many 21+ cons may be cool, younger furries like myself need their own cons so that they can still participate in the community, although these cons would need to be slightly more curated, but for the most part from the quick looks from the start of the video, not much has to change. I wish we did also have 18- cons with heavier staff supervision so that us teens can connect with others without a parent hovering over our shoulders at all times, preventing us from meeting each other based on our parent's bias.
like some Anime cons That have adult sections and events at night. the day time has stuff for all ages. but some Cons being for adults only yes, like maybe the one in sin city. and for the cons that have adult events at night you would need to be carded. There are many Teens and preteens who are furries but Don't have a community to teach them how to behave. Should some cons be 18+ or 21+?
Well in my opinion I think like you said there should be like designated cons with 21+ or 18+. However excluding is one thing that I think a lot of furs look down upon (including myself) so maybe certain cons don’t have to be age restricted. But at the same time, there should be certain cons that had more higher age range considering that there could be a lot of “inappropriate” content. Idk that’s just me 😅
BLFC and LVFC should most def be 21+, other cons should be 18+!

I have experience being a teenager in the fandom, and my local con (MFF) was a great way to express myself and have a good time. As someone who has been in the fandom since I was 12 and am now in my 20's, I think the biggest danger to minors in the fandom is found online. As long as a furcon has proper rules against any kink gear and adult behaviors, children should be allowed with adult supervision. You can go to a lot of concerts and events by yourself being 16+ and I think that's reasonable. I would rather my hypothetical child experience the fandom by seeing fursuits and art in person, rather than by browsing through Deviant Art or FA where they can lie about their age and see 18+ content and meet some awful people. A minor is safer in a public setting surrounded by adults and con staff than they are in a discord server that their parents don't know about. It's up to parents to look out for their own children.
I also think having some cons that are 21+ sounds fun for those of us old enough to drink, or who don't want to be around kids. That con looked fun.

Its not just creeps that one needs to watch out for as there are adult things that adults like doing that though not exactly should be confined behind closed doors its still best for children to not to experience first hand especially since parents have different ideas of what is acceptable for their kids to experience. Its not a simple matter with saying this is acceptable and that is not acceptable.
The next issue is that people who are over 21 are the ones who by the vast majority who finance the convention as they can afford to they are also the ones who run it. The cons are not fully funded by the people who buy the base membership the people who buy the extra special advanced membership are the ones who really make it happen because the con really needs that money to make the base membership as low as it is. If you check the vast majority of the people who are on the board of directors and to a lesser extent the upper staff of the conventions the vast majority of them are over 40 with just a few being between 30 and 40 and you would be hard pressed to find some who are in their 20s though there might be a couple.
I think pretending like minors don’t exist in the fandom and have no place in it is ridiculous. There should definitely still be adult only cons, not everyone wants to deal with kids, but making ALL cons 18+ sets the standard that minors aren’t accepted in the fandom. This fandom saved my life when I was a minor and I don’t think we should take that away from someone else who needs it.

even before watching the video, my stance (as a minor) is that there should be some of both. i love going to cons and have been to a handful, but ive also been to non furry events that had drunk people, which was honestly really scary. i think that having 18+/21+ cons will not only keep young furs away from intoxicated people, but also hopefully keep people from getting intoxicated at minor friendly cons.

Yes I totally agree, I’m so not comfortable with intoxicated adults, so giving adults their own space is a good way for me to not worry sm abt it.
As an adult who’s asexual and doesn’t drink, I can see both sides. I personally don’t want to be involved in any adult sides of the fandom because that’s not the side of the fandom I resonate with and want to participate in, but I totally understand adults who do. Sexual themes makes me uncomfortable, so I personally avoid any 18+ areas at cons (when my friends don’t forcibly drag me along), so if all cons went 18/21+, I’d fear that some dress rules would be in constant 18+ range instead of hair during after dark hours, potentially leading to other asexuals like me, or just people not as open sexually or around alcohol, feeling alienated and uncomfortable.
My personal stance is if it has a designated space and everyone is consenting and of age then great, but I still want my space where I can be comfortable and still have fun.
All this said, I also don’t want to be around just kids, and would prefer to be around people my age, idk. I honestly think the best solution is to have designated 18/21+ zones/hours, kind of like how TFF did this year.
As a younger fur myself, It's great seeing adults thrive in their own environments! And there definitely should be more spaces made for 18+ or older furries. That being said I still believe there should be spaces for minors as well (i would still like to join the fun, haha). Though considering the comment section I think we generally agree with this lol. Just because theres one or two 18+ or 21+ cons doesnt mean theres isn't already a dozen all ages cons.
I've been in the fandom for about 15 years. I genuinely think that excluding minors is a terrible idea. Sure, I dont personally like interacting with them all that much. But they make up such a large portion of the fandom and arent really hurting anyone. I think Id rather be at an event where everyone is sober anyways. Dealing with drunks is *always* awful.
The point of a Furry is that they like the idea of Anthropomorphic Cartoon Animals with human characteristics, if cons become only for adults, then the future kids won't enjoy Furries anymore, a hobby is a hobby no matter what, it's not a "you can go if you 21+". Leave the furry conventions still at family friendly.

I love that the fandom is growing, I never had it as a kid, and I want to see it continue to grow. And if we exclude minors, it might make some of them resent the community and turn on the fandom altogether, because they have to watch something they can never enjoy or participate in for a decade.
Now what I would be fine with, is maybe cons implement a curfew, "adult only hours", or maybe adult only sections and panels. Or maybe the con is open to minors the first 2 days, but then the last day of the con is adults only. I know it's hard to deal with the age gaps, but we gotta be fair to our youngsters.
Some people don't understand that if all cons suddenly go 18 or 21+ not only will cons lose a percentage of their attendees, they will lose a good percentage of money due to less attendees also meaning artists/dealers won't sell as much due to half their customers being cut off.
Seen people talk about how relaxing it is not having to look over their shoulders for minors when in reality if that's the case your the problem not the minors. Also hate the fact how people say "they can wait an easy 3-6 years to attend" when their the ones who don't have to wait at all.
The furry fandom is a place for everyone and for people to try to make the most common thing in the fandom which is conventions only for adults because yall can't act responsible in public.

I stopped going to cons and meets after 2019. The growing "frat party" and "exclusive friend groups" mentality the younger furs have burned me out.
When I first got involved with furry in 2008 or so it welcomed everyone and people would do their damndest to make you feel welcome and like you belonged.
Now it's all about he said, she said, throwing each other under the bus for the slightest reasons, and is generally just a toxic atmosphere that overshadows the good and fun parts.

I’m still only 16 but I agree with this so much 😞 when I first joined this fandom it felt so much more accepting and chill than it does now… now there is so much petty and unnecessary drama and toxicity. But I know there are still a lot of good furries out there and I try to have hope. I still plan to go to cons in the future even if they don’t feel the same… but the change does genuinely makes me sad

I don't necessarily agree with that anymore as that's been mellowing down somewhat. There's a lot of new furs after the pandemic, which caused a forcing domino effect of people having to meet new people. There's friend groups (as is natural) but so far as to my perception people just fit in where they feel they belong. There's a LOT of options in the fandom nowadays.
At least, that's the case here in Europe.

My opinion on this is that cons could have certain hours or areas for 13+ or even only 13-17 and then have others only 18/21+ so the young ones can still enjoy a convention but also the adults can enjoy it without kids
I kinda like the idea of a teens only con, however, I feel like there should be parents or other chaperones present to prevent any mayhem from breaking loose and keeping the event orderly, but I think it could be arranged and could possibly be a really interesting idea.

Never really spoke out on this much as a teenager who’s a furry and almost 18, but I’m waiting to attend a con when I turn around 19 or until i’m out of high school to truly enjoy myself at a con without any restrictions due to my age, but I also want to be safe at cons. I’ve been in the fandom for 4 years now and I think cons should be something for everyone, but people should be allowed to make those age limits depending on what kind of con it is . I think the best option is a mix some of all 3. while it is good to have all ages cons because they allow people of all ages to enjoy the con and the fandom, a 18+ con allows for more mature activities and a environment where older people don't have to worry about younger people or restricting their selves or their fun. I think the same for 21+ cons, just with the addition of not having to worry about people doing things underaged to an even further extent. cons of different ages allow different kinds of fun, activities, events, more and different self expression, and less stress or concern about others and safety at the con.
limiting the cons to 18+ or 21+ keeps younger members from expressing themselves, having safe spaces, and experiencing the fandom as a whole.
So I say a mix of all 3 is the answer.
as a sober adult, 21+ cons kinda sound like hell on earth. i went to my first con as a minor and i felt safe- i would feel super unsafe at events like the ones you showed in your video.
As a 21 year old, LVFC looks like it would be an uncomfortable experience for me (not super comfortable around lots lf alcohol and such), but that doesn't mean I don't think spaces like this should happen. Having a 21+ con is cool, though I think I'd prefer to have it more on the rare side. Too many of these cons would probably make me feel outcasted from the fandom. The great thing about all ages cons are that by the time people usually start drinking or smoking or whatever, I've already pretty much retired to my room and can choose to not be around it.

The UK also doesn't think it's appropriate to acknowledge same-sex relationships exist to minors either; which is kinda draconian and backwards. Some conventions are kept family friendly , some aren't; but there's a growing push to exclude all minors anyhow.

As a minor (16) i think there should be some all ages events, but also +18 (+21 for the EEUU) cons are very important, even i undestand not everything needs to be family friendly in the fandom, all the restriction of a event to be all ages can really ruin fun to people, but so it wont hurt some more all ages/minors allowed if they are +x age events, sorry for bad english btw
I'm personally all for having some cons be adults only. The one I go to every year, furlandia has had issues with minors sneaking in (most of these kids being 10-13), not paying for registration, not having a legal gradian with them, stealing from vendors, trashing the place, and staying well after the daylight hours had ended. This isn't only shitty parenting, fucking over the con on numbers, literally breaking the law through stealing, but it's also SO unsafe for the kids themselves, yes the fandom is safe most of the time but you never know. I think by having adult-only cons, incidents like these would go down so, so much, and give adults space to be adults without watching over their shoulders to make sure they don't do something around a child that they shouldn't.

I might be uninformed as I've recently turned young adult however while I think there are some cons that are okay being 18-21+ and make sense depending on what's there, where it is and other factors I think just kind of excluding minors is a good thing. Speaking from experience, trying to fit into groups and communities when a lot of them have 18+ policies can really feel alienating... and considering the fact that every easily impressionable kid is going to jump on the "Furries are the worst, they should all die!" hate train then if younger furs aren't even accepted by their own community they quite literally have nowhere to turn to. 18-21+ makes sense for some cons but I definitely don't think all or most of them should have that policy. I also fear that if cons start being 21+ then the amount of people doing sexual things there and way more risqué events and shops will pop up, with that comes more unwanted groping and touching which we know everybody loves at fur cons. :P
I think all-ages cons should exist as frequently as age-restricted cons so younger/SFW members still have a safe space.

@@SpamBoar Just for the 2021 con, coming off of COVID, they did not allow minors as the vaccine had not been approved for minors to get in time to be effective for the con, so it was 18+ due to safety.
Look, kids exist, they will always exist in fandoms. Keeping cons for adults is always important in my opinion, I despise dealing with kids personally, but I don’t think all cons should be adult only. But there should be separate cons
A whole lot of people are gonna take this the wrong way and immediately assumes that this fandom is only for adults only, and regulate minor’s liberties of being a furry.
IMO most cons should have kids and the cons should be 18+ in general and parents or legal guardian for minors to make sure you can keep the fur con family friendly. But I think a few cons should be 21+ like in las vegas, Miami(or any fur con in Florida) and Atlanta and near Chicago only because these places well know for parties, drugs, booze, gang violence, sex and I don't want minors getting into trouble with things they shouldn't be doing.
Personally, I think we needa good mix of it. Some 18+, some 21+, and some all ages. Something for everyone. But hey I am 15 so I could be biased 🤷

Let’s say there’s a weekend con. Saturday should be adults only (have a hangover on Sunday where most don’t work) and Sunday is all ages (and this should apply in places like Las Vegas where it’s already mainly adults). But most should be all ages. Making all cons adults only will just make the fandom seem more like a fetish than a safe community. For myself I’ve been a fan since I was a kid, always wanted to join in the fun but in my town the community is too small to have a con. I’m 21 and barely got a dino mask to customize because I have to put my focus on college. I’d hate for young furries to not ever be able to go to a con till they’re an adult and by then more likely outgrew it. They deserve to have fun. It’s just like anime cons or gamer events.
There should be different cons, some all ages, some adult only, that way, those that wanna do adult shit can just go to the adult stuff.

I'm a furry and a mom, my son is eleven currently and has already chosen his fursona (how a mouse and wolf birthed a protogen I'll never know) I say all this to say that even though I'm raising a young furry I still don't feel like the party atmosphere of a convention is suitable for a minor. There are too many situations that can and do turn sour due to a minor being around needlessly.
Insurance and more draconian laws forcing furcons to be more adult. But we NEED the younger furs to come in, get hooked, and later on become the new old guard as we age age and cant work the cons as staff anymore. So if we can still have furcons as open and all ages while any adult stuff is gated away it should be okay. Heck our con finally did a night market and OH an was it spicy, busy, and chaotic.
having been a furry most of my life the thing most new furs don't get is this was never really for minors and its always been gay accepting, kinky and weird its gotten way more mainstream and hence more minors and has mellowed out in a lot of ways AC having to do a lot of that trying to get it into the mainstream by presenting a kid friendly space I kinda disagree with that approach in hindsight but its what happened but I do think there should be 18+ cons like personally I don't really care but a lot of people want to be weird and kinky so I think it best if some cons allow that and others don't like trying to deny the sex aspect of furry is just absurd its a big part even if some furs want to pretend otherwise its always been a huge part of furry.
contentions should be all ages but i do believe either certain days or times should be for people 18+ or 21+ otherwise hold these conventions at other sides of the convention centre that require strict age verification
I actually started doing millions of sad backflips when I realized that the ONLY CON IN MY ENTIRE CITY DOESNT ALLOW MINORS. I kinda understand if it’s just this one or if 21+ cons exist, but alienating all minors in all cons is just ridiculous

Maybe Thursday and Friday for minors and Sat and Sun 18+ only? Don't know how enforceable that would be though. The bigger cons are SO INSANELY crowded I feel like that's also a way to make the size slightly more manageable. i don't know though. 🤔🤔

I think that's a bit extreme. The furry fandom is an escape from people's struggles in life. High school and middle school is a very hard time for a lot of people, and I think completely shutting them out of the con experience is against the fandom's idea of acceptance. Still, I think there should be some adults only cons for those who want it

the problem with all age cons is that the inclusion of minors exclude fetishists and kinky furs, even though the furrydom and bdsm community is intreconnected.
furries have historically always been kinky and having events inclusive of kink is nothing but good.
of course there should still be all ages events and cons, but i think the "im a minor ACCOMMEDATE ME" culture has taken overhand.

As i brit i still get caught off guard at the under 21 bit. When i turned 18 legal was allowed to buy alcohol tabaco get a and was fully open to the law. First thing i did when i got my photo id at 18 was walk to my local shop and grab a ready meal mac and cheese and a bottle of alcohol and just sat watching cartoons. (I had been drinking on special occasions since i was like 12) Now as 24 year old adult. I sit on my sofa in my apartment watching cartoons and have a drink every now and again.
Well, we USED to have it to where you could at least buy smokes at 18 but that's since changed 😭
Meanwhile in Germany mostly cons are 18+ except for maybe small cons or private meet ups cause we have some pretty strict minor protection laws like a legal curfew for minors and you can get in so much trouble for child endangerment here.
In fact I can't name one con in my area that is all ages.
Minor furries usually attend either local renfair type events or public city fairs or tag a long for a furry walk (my local group still requires a legal guardian to join though for...well legal reasons)
Non furry related; but if it's so hard to leave a child with a non legal guardian, can you not hire a baby-sitter, or leave a child in the charge of a 15-17 year old sibling? That seems like it would make life as a parent difficult, especially a single parent.

There should be gatherings and events designed for kids and their families, as well as ones that are strictly for adults---and Las Vegas is the perfect place for an adults-only con! What matters is that everyone can find something for them that allow them to participate in this fandom.

When I meet the furry fandom(2016) as a minor I felt very comfortable and heartwarming, acceptance was great, but as time passed on the fandom begin to intoxicating me like a drug and when I already was a adult it feels like a bad place to stay and looks more like a kink, I'm autistic and thrusting someone is hard so when I unfortunately discover that a lot of content creator on TH-cam "secretly" was doing basically p+rn in other places(with very easy access), I felt VERY uncomfortable, like they are other persons that I met, this make me fill a little sick bc if you has a adult content career and on TH-cam pretends to be family friendly, it's disconcerting and other things like the dramas, the crazy zooprides and so.
The phrase "it's not a fetish" doesn't really apply in the fandom since many only use their fursonas to practice these fetishes and erotic things and tendencies 🙍🏻♂️
The furry fandom helped me a lot during a deep depression in 2018, but in 2020 and onwards it started to intoxicate me with adult content and left me addicted, it caused me a lot of harm and today I'm fine and of the many "friends" I had, I only kept a few 4, I currently consider myself a distant admirer of this culture and no longer part of it fully.
I don't think cons should be locked to +18/+21 but these days the fandom it's very toxic and harmful for those just want to make friends and maybe wants a partner without dramas and lies

I’m going to Fur-Eh this year with my mom and sibling (I’m a minor), and I’m worried that my mom might see something innapropriate. I don’t want it to paint a bad picture of our fandom, since so far she’s been supportive and seems to understand it! I don’t want that to get ruined :( I know the con has rules about not displaying 18+ stuff in areas besides 18+ spots, but I’m still worried😭😭 Does anyone have any advice or past experiences that might reassure me?
There should definitely be some adult only cons here and there but I think we should keep most cons all-ages as they currently are. Maybe with adult only events later into the night hours.
I think there's room for both while keeping a good balance of fun and safety.

Maybe I'm just biased cuz I'm a minor but like I want to go to a con once I'm 16 I don't think it's a ridiculous age to go to a first con and I would be very very sad if they were all 18+ or 21+ theres so many people who are my age who want to go to a con and restricting it just seems a little silly, its not so hard to keep things kid friendly, you can even have a separation with the nsfw things that need id verification to enter

I'm 20 now, but I've been in the fandom since I was like 11 (before I even knew what a furry really was, I technically had a sona so I go with that lol) and it makes me genuinely sad to see the amount of adults yelling at kiddos for just wanting a space in the community. Sure, we didn't have a SFW start as a community.. but that doesn't mean things cannot change with time. Personally, my only bad experience with kiddos in the fandom is purely online. Irl, they tend to be pretty well-behaved (at least at my local con) bc their parents are with them, and even then some are just genuinely kinda sweet and excited to express themselves. I really don't think all cons are gonna go this route like everyone is saying either, because I think it's important to have a balance and have a safe space for those with kids who want to go to cons, younger community members (not necessarily young kids, think teens and so on), or even just people who want to attend a con without seeing peens everywhere LOL. I also think people forget that some furries in the community have their own children now, so it kinda sucks that some of ya'll are barring them from their community experience as well just bc they have kids now.
Ultimately, this is the con's decision and I respect whatever they think is best for them and the local community surrounding it. I love the idea of a 21+ only con tho, esp in Vegas due to Vegas being an adult friendly city anywho with all the drinking and such haha.

This has been years long coming, furries have been slowly trying to phase out minors for their safety since i entered the fandom AS a kid.
Once one goes adult almost all of them will follow suit, you can expect hardly any all ages cons in the future as furries learn their comfort space is away from kids (which i dont blame them for those tails are too expensive to be tugging at)
They could easily convert to 18/21+ one in Florida did (that was because of the dictator governor down there though) that con still had record breaking attendance compared to its other years though.
LVFC should absolutely be at least 18+, you're in Vegas goddamnit, but then you have ones like AWU which should absolutely be all ages
I would say majority of cons, especially stuff without the size or resources of a FWA, AC, or even EF should be 18+ with more smaller specialized 21+ cons. I think LVFC paves a strong path forward for the future of cons.
I think 21+ is exessive unless it's a bar meet or specific events at cons.
However, from my and many others' experience, the fandom has a much higher concentration of sexual predators than average plus many mentally-underdeveloped people even OLDER than 18. I would say rather than 21+ make the cons 18+ at the very least. Still keep the sfw atmosphere tho but highschoolers truthfully have no business at these conventions.

The thought that I might not be able to go to these conventions until I'm at least 18, when I haven't got to do much of anything yet with it? Honestly not a fun idea. I'm 18 years old (I will be 19 years old in August) and I consider myself an adult. However the overly sexual nature of the furry fandom, if not made entirely illegal, should definately be restricted to individuals younger than 18.
HELL YES. this is what the Adults need for the cons. But We Should have Both types of cons. we Should have a more PG con for minors that's more fun and geared to Fam Friendly and has more fun things geared for that. and Adult cons can be for the Adults to enjoy and just have fun and relax for once. i don't vibe with people not around my age group and it feels F-ing weird to have just to hang around folks half my age or younger, not my crowd not my scene not my noise not my style not my monkey and not my Zoo, i want to Relax and let go I'm spending all the Damn money and i want to chill and party with folks and make friends.

So i do think there should be 18+ cons, because theres alot of NSFW material, especially in the dealers den, at regular all ages cons, and while I have no gripes with NSFW content being sold at cons, they should only be available at 18+ cons. looking one way and seeing a group of 15 year olds and looking the other way and seeing furry smut is not the best experience.
I think the major cons such as MFF, TFF, AC, etc etc should be for everyone, and of course there should be dedicated ones for people over 18+ and/or 21+. A lot of the fandom itself are children, and they want to meet other furries as well. So these cons are great places to meet people, i just think there should be some that aren’t for kids. Setting the norm of every con being 18+ will cause the fandom to decrease in people and start making it seem like kids aren’t welcome at all. Even though the original meaning of the furry fandom is finding an interest or connection to anthropomorphic animals, which is SFW *for the norm*. And like what MFF does is give designated badges to minors so sellers can be more aware.
As for cons being 18 or 21+, I think some cons like LVFC should remain as they are. I also think cons that are all-ages need strict rules to protect minors while 21+ need a different set of rules to keep it 21+

I think these 18/21 events should be mostly normal in number with the underage included events be smaller in number. Keep some of those odd ones in the 21 plus events so they don't mix with the minors at all. this is a bit harsh but looking at some of the people in this footage makes me sick and I wouldn't trust them around a child and I hope that isn't just me because I just don't like what I'm looking at sorry.
Adults are typically going to enjoy the adult stuff and others are going to enjoy family friendly cons. Both types can host all sorts of events & games & art that are fun. Remember kids & teens are a integral part of the welcoming community eventually growing up and carrying the torch for future generations. You can't just undo that esp when younger generations crave to be out there physically more than ever. There can totally be both kinds of cons, big & small.

I think cons where it’ll be mostly 18+ things should be 18+ but if it’s gonna be 18+ things mixed with alcohol then 21+ but if it’s just a normal con where there will be 18+ things sometimes and some places 18+ then let minors in not every con needs to be 21+ cause of the fact new furries aren’t gonna be able to get used to the con experience without bein there
1) saying cons should be for adults only is basically saying the issue of children being preyed upon is such a big issue that we would rather make the victims suffer by kicking them out rather than holding the people who are predatory accountable.
2) saying cons should be for adults only further perpetuates the stereotype that all furries do is fuck and take substances. although it is fine to do these things, this being the only celebrated personality alienates people who abstain from sex or substances, and completely negates the initial idea of this being a welcoming environment.
Although many 21+ cons may be cool, younger furries like myself need their own cons so that they can still participate in the community, although these cons would need to be slightly more curated, but for the most part from the quick looks from the start of the video, not much has to change. I wish we did also have 18- cons with heavier staff supervision so that us teens can connect with others without a parent hovering over our shoulders at all times, preventing us from meeting each other based on our parent's bias.

like some Anime cons That have adult sections and events at night. the day time has stuff for all ages. but some Cons being for adults only yes, like maybe the one in sin city. and for the cons that have adult events at night you would need to be carded. There are many Teens and preteens who are furries but Don't have a community to teach them how to behave. I understand not wanting to show young furry Yiff and mur shite so in cons for everyone those would have to be hidden or brought out during the Adult events.
