Wow, interesting project! And good discussion. I like that you'll have multiple energy resources (redundancy) and greater independence, albeit based on a high initial cost. Simplifying the engine is a big plus! Hope this draws more viewers.
Exactly. We didn't know what all would go into a project like this. Definitely a lot of research. We're up for the challenge though! 💪 Thanks for the comment
@@vica153 We see it more like trading a high-maintenance, noisy, expensive, heavy engine shoved in a tight space, for a lighter, quieter, more redundant motor with fewer parts that are easier to replace and work on. Maybe our perspectives are just a little different, though.
@MiExile We've already begun. We need to remove the diesel engine, get a few more solar panels, some wind turbines, and more batteries. We have haul out at the beginning of next year, and plans are to head to Puerto Rico by the end of April! 🥳

Not saying some content isn't relevant but OHMS Law is just the beginnings so, how will you troubleshoot a problem at sea? We wish we luck tho ;)
@@patch8462 Paul is a great critical thinker and does well under pressure. He once took apart a starter motor and rebuilt it with spare parts while we were underway. Episode 12, if you'd like to watch. I think he is more than capable of troubleshooting any issues we may have in the future. Thank you for your concern.
@@sailinghorus I think you misunderstand the overall disadvantages of an all electric drive. I don't see the reference to a simple engine starter? A starter motor or starter system underway is a small simple circuit if one has spare parts; not at all comparable to the complexity of a propulsion system under the pressures that may kick up. Unless of course you plan for just coastal sailing. wish you both the best.

Thanks. We're happy to have made the switch. 😊
Good for you guys! getting rid of the engine will certainly reduce boat wt.
We've shedded over 1200lb if you include the engine and the diesel tanks.
I currently live on my all electric sport fisher.
The research goes a long way but just doing it teaches you so much more.

Good job.
@@melbaburrow4710 Thanks! 😃
Hahaha yall are funny! Great content.
Nifty, as long as your ok with trading noisy, cheap, reliable, & simple for quiet, expensive, heavy, & complex.

Greasemonkey gone electric, hell yeah!
Fire that can't be put out with traditional fire extinguishers. Salt water and lithium great idea.
Ya, I would be concerned with lithuium ion batteries too. We got Lithium iron phosphate though. It's much safer!
This is exciting how long will it take for you to convert it over

Everybody says you need a reliable engine.
@@tonykennedy1615Or a reliable motor 😁
