Something about this boat just gives me good vibes. I bet the previous owner is watching your videos and just grinning ear to ear to see you bringing it back to life.
If we have learned nothing else, it is clear that no one is prohibited from sailing because they don't have money for a boat. There are plenty out there for the taking for anyone who wants one. Sailing is, like playing piano, a skill that few are able or willing to learn. As someone who loves conspiracy, I am convinced that half the people with boats in hurricane prone areas actually loosen the lines and update insurance policies when storms come a calling. Sam is a great source of inspiration for anyone considering live on sailboats. If you are someone envious of this lifestyle, just get out there and network and find the person with the dream of sailing that has lost interest. Plenty of them out there.
i got inspiried by videos like this and after a month of looking around, i was given a chrysler 22 keel boat. i have 300 bucks into buying a motor and thats it!
Sam pressure washing is the opposite of satisfying ASMR. It’s enough to trigger even the mildest OCD. Keep washing how you live…moment to moment and free of stress. Love it.
I'd recommend picking up a couple extra swim ladder rubber feet and stick them where you plan to put the bimini connector that way you avoid getting water inside and also prevent accidentally bumping into it and cutting yourself.
Sam I lost your channel and just last night I finally found it. I have so many adventures and crossings to watch. I love sailboats, and they're so beautiful. Especially when you score, a cozy boat to make your own. This is my 1st season with my new 2023 14ft solo skiff, which I can take a friend, with no issues. I've had a new12 ft Hobie PA 12, and my Hobie PA 14. But I wanted my Solo skiff with a 6hp outboard, and a bow mounted I-pilot spotlock trolling motor. I added all my batteries, lights, accessories, DIY's, and add-ons. I'm in Marathon FL. I fun fish the flats, mangroves, Backcountry, and I'll go 5 miles offshore. Or I'll just do recon trips. Me and my buddies also do four camp/ Fish trips a year, on our boats to different islands. Torqueedo is perfect, for your new boat. I had the 403 and 1103. Anyway, I go out three days a week. And it's pure therapy. Stay safe and enjoy your dreams. She's coming out beautiful! 🙏 ⛵ 🌊
This is hands down the most satisfying sailing vid I’ve watched in years. Well done Sam on bringing that boat back to life. Keep up the awesome work 👏🏼👏🏼
Your journey is good and a blessing to my day. Some people learn better with more pictures than words. A picture is worth a thousand words...blessing...m
If one wants to patch up things on an old boat quick, then it can be done easy. To do things in a proper way and look also good, it takes more time, effort and money. Sam don't have time for that and he don't care and it is also ok
It amazes me how many free things youtubers are given by their audiences. I guess when you're generous with your personality and information people really appreciate it.
What was the dallors cost to switch to your electric motor. What draw back does this conversion make and what plus are there? Thanks for your response and have wonderful adventures on the new to you boat.
great video. every boat owner empathizes with a list of work projects to improve their vessel. thank you for showing how an electric motor can be added - a retrofit project many of us will be embracing over the next few years. kudos!
Those pressurized stoves are brilliant. They will run off petrol (gasoline) too. Its the first thing I pack for my wild camping trips. Loving your videos Sam, it is making me want to get into doing a bit of sailing, now I live on the south coast of UK.
Just found this channel. Wanted to post a word of warning here; pressure washing the topsides is a great way to blow out the bedding compound under all your fittings and windows. So others looking to do so should be cautious unless they're already planning to rebed everything soon thereafter.
Love your videos man been actually dying to see this video. Used to be terrified of sailboats after my laser mast came down and tore through the fiberglass due to bad weather. Now I want to live on one for 20 years. Thanks for the great content man!
The boat is great ... the price you can not beat ... free ... you are doing what thousands of other people dream about doing ... living the adventure ... kudos ...
Sam! I appreciate your videos so much; thank you! For tightening bolts by yourself, you can vice grip one side, and then tighten the other side. To keep the vice grips from spinning, you can tie a little string to the bolt coming from the handle of the vice grips.
I don’t know why I can watch you’re videos so much. Especially since I don’t have a boat!…..YET. Love to see how you handle the challenges, keep them coming!
Thanks for sharing. Love the electric motor. Just a suggestion but you might want to ship and store your fenders while under way. I did not notice but if there was a way to adjust the downhaul for the boom you might be able to get the mainsail tighter. If at all possible, you may want to bring the tack of the jib closer to the deck if the halyard does not allow you to bring the head of the jib any higher. Wingfoiling and sailing in the same day. Priceless.
Sam, great stuff as usual. Since you have a prop and shaft in the water, maybe you could rig up a water generator from a salvaged wind generator or car alternator?!
You are always so entertaining and so talented at your craft. I love that u started as a Disney engineer. You remind me of my son. Also u r encouraging to my mother who has an ostomy. Wishing u well & safe adventures!
Hi Sam, Glad you like your alcohol stove - we love ours! Our trick to lighting it is to use a pipette to add some alcohol to the bowl under the ring, rather than pump alcohol up from the reservoir, then light it - that way you avoid any large yellow flames.
I swear, if you are ever misfortunate enough to lose an arm, you'll still be fine with sailing and fixing up your boat... you won't be able to film yourself doing it, but you'll still be pretty much fine. P.S. I could have watched you pressure wash your boat for an hour. So satisfying.
184th desktop shipmate LIKE posted at 2:57 - "Sam drills a hole in his boat..." makes it official. 14:06 the single-handed sailor who literally only uses one hand.
i love how ready you are to drill a hole or pull out the zip cut to make your boat functional for you. inspiring and some good ideas! also i died when you said not a million buck 5000 maby? 😄
I had two Torqeedo batteries that died like you said: They would go for a while then drop to nothing. Keep then out of hot cars (I think exposure to heat damaged them). But even with proper care, I have found that the batteries last around five years, and it doesn't depend on how much you use them. Other than the expense of batteries, I like my Torqeedo motor, for what I use it for.
Yes all the boats on shoreline are from Ian and few from Nicole. I live in Melbourne, and watch your videos. If you're not busy one day. Would like to meet you. Keep living your dream, thanks kim
I am so freaked out about sailing. Not sure what to do or how to approach it. But your channel puts me at ease. Thank you for your posts and taking the time to produce these videos.
Sam no doubt makes it look easy but don't be afraid. I only had one day of an ASA course and lived in the Caribbean and had my own 9m sailboat boat for a while. Was the first one I ever had and sailed and it really wasn't that complicated. But the other poster is right it's more about safety. Get to know how to handle situations and what to do.
I love watching Sam and I pray that all of my fellow viewers are inspired in some way to live more fully. Many are Biblically ignorant. We are not going to heaven because we are bad or good, because we all fall short. Instead, we are saved by faith like Noah. God in human form (Jesus) made it possible for us to fully live our lives by faith. What is it that you feel God pulling at you to do today that you are afraid to do? Like Sam, I urge you to GO for IT. Live by faith. Perfect love casts out ALL fear. Thank you Sam for living by faith and documenting it us for us all to see. Your light does indeed shine and inspire.
Sam, I been following you since you started work on your CD 28 in NC and onward. I own CD 30 Ketch ("Project") on the hard in New Bern, NC and live south in Melbourne, Fl. At 76 with my Labrador "Sully"you remain a "Tonic" in our lives as we await the Spring for sea trials. Looking forward to your newest adventure!!
Put your vice grips on the nuts inside the boat then use your socket to tighten the bolts. No second person needed. Probably want some sealant on those bolt holes.
Obi-Wan Ryobi is BACK! Cutting rails, drilling holes. Hide the children! What a hoot. Is the camper-maran up in Aurora? On our next visit to the dock in Oriental, may do a drive-by to the shop on our way to the Phosphate Fossil Museum. The legend lives!
It's not such a bad little boat. It just needs some love. i totally dig that you went with an electric motor. agree about removing the prop when you can do it easily, lot less drag.
Great new boat Sam. Cut the stitching that’s holding the bolt ropes and let them suck up into the tabling. They don’t have to go the whole way up. It’s not the cloth, the bolt ropes have shrunk over time. Good luck!
Nobody is less afraid to drill a hole in their boat than Sam
And hack away at the railing.
He's a mad man
Probably why he let all that fiberglass crud fall in the water .
Hes way too casual about it.
When it’s free why would you care?
You’re completely insane. Don’t ever change. Love your adventures.
Something about this boat just gives me good vibes. I bet the previous owner is watching your videos and just grinning ear to ear to see you bringing it back to life.
SPOT ON!
did the cutting tool jeopardize the integrity of the frame strength of the boat?
"I don't know, I'll figure it out." I love watching how you figure stuff out..no matter where you are or how gnarly the weather.
Half of it is navigation skills, the other half, intuition.

boat floats, wind pushes boat, don't hit anything! Have a back up plan! Boooom! you are sailing!
Soothing powerwash scene complete with music. Very satisfying. 😂👍🏻

I was thinking the same thing. Who needs sharp edges?
I appreciate the simplistic solutions it’s refreshing from other sailing TH-camrs that have every new bell and whistle for there boat
do you know the old seadog channel?
The only TH-cam creator I wished made longer videos!
There's nothing like just blasting the dirt away and seeing a beautiful finish underneath

Wooooo!!! It felt so satisfying watching that pressure washer do it’s thing.
Greatest power washing scene ever!
Sam is the master of one handed boat refitting!
Sam takes the term single handing literally!
Love electric motors. None of the noise, smell or expense. And better control.
This is hands down the most satisfying sailing vid I’ve watched in years. Well done Sam on bringing that boat back to life. Keep up the awesome work 👏🏼👏🏼
I dig the 1960s smooth jazz while you were power washing the boat. Rock on Daddy-O!

Its so cool watching you adjust the boat. You make it look so easy.
If one wants to patch up things on an old boat quick, then it can be done easy. To do things in a proper way and look also good, it takes more time, effort and money. Sam don't have time for that and he don't care and it is also ok
Adjust? More like destruct!!!!😂😂😂😂
What would a Sam Holmes video be without a drill? 🙂
A not Sam Holmes video.
@John Q. Bebtelovimab "Winnah-Winnah, Chicken-Dinnah!" LOL...
@@chriskelly6559 Right. Or, just some other sailing channel's un-holey, boring (or, non-boring) episode. Hee-Hee-Hee.
I own a drill, but not a boat... I feel my life is somewhat lacking...

There are lots of free sail boats. Labours of love people never get to that cost more to moor than they're worth.
Another great video with Sam drilling holes in a boat. Jealous. Have fun and stay safe.
Another great Sam Holmes Sailing update. Great acquisition Sam. Thanks for sharing!

You're making me want to learn how to sail Sam.
You can do it!
You won’t regret it.
@@samholmessailing What's your rate for private instruction?
Sam is the man. It's nice to take a break and see what your up too!
These are the best sailing videos in the world. THANK YOU
Even inside a hurricane, Sam will keep on smiling

Sam’s optimism is infectious. Love watching these vids!
I love that you just get out and GO! You remind me of my other nautical hero, Capt. Ron!
Hope you dodge the big problems and continue to thrive 🙏

Jazz music while pressure washing-I love it!
Sam Holmes is off the chain,,,,awesome
The power washing with smooth jazz is mesmerizing. thx
There’s something very satisfying about seeing an old tub like that cleaned up after a thorough pressure washing 👍🏻
Sam, you are patient and creative, get r done dude, kind of sailor. Thumbs up.
You have the most important skill. you turn lemons into lemonade. Hope you have a great new year.
Looks like such a fun time. Thanks for the video
I would trust this kid to take you anywhere on a sailboat. His videos are simple but great at same time.
Love your resourcefulness and positivity. Keep it up!

Man I love you new boat simplicity in it self adding this model to my with list ;)
Glad to see you making progress with your yacht project. Great video for to learn about sailboats.

That's a neat tip. So the flames from the little pool on top gasify the alcohol in the reservoir?
Mira looks excellent with a wash... Great job!
Watching you power wash your new boat was enjoyable. Cheers
You make it look so easy, Sam.
The music for cleaning the topside was perfect!
It will take a me a week to make sure I am drilling in the correct place. Not a problem when the boat is free. Its a really nice boat. I like it.
First thing Sam does when ever he gets a new boat is start drilling holes in it. Lol.
I swear, if you are ever misfortunate enough to lose an arm, you'll still be fine with sailing and fixing up your boat... you won't be able to film yourself doing it, but you'll still be pretty much fine.

Awesome man! You are fearless! You do things without remorse…lol … I always overthink everything…lol…
Instantly hacking and cutting!! Love it!
Sam, if the lines are old & stiff soak them in a bucket with soap & a little bleach. Also add some liquid fabric softener to make them limber. Dan S.
Try McLube on your sailtrack and you will easily be able to get the sail up tighter. It is great and I use it on eaverything that moves. Non-greasy
Im putting this music on every time i pressure wash something. it's sublime.
my guy its coming along good work
Brings memories of my time living aboard and getting paid to pressure wash a jaguar 21. It's amazing what high pressure water can do.
Sam, you're definitely the mad scientist of sailing. Keep up great content.
Wow, that cleaned up really nice.
I think so too!
Thanks so awesome! I’m keeping my eye out for one as well.
