Tried to buy GT3 but brushed off by dealer 6.5 years ago so bought Macca 570 Spider. Absolutely love the car for both bimble about driving but also hard core track work. Had new front springs last year from Thorney (but fitted by V-engineering). Service costs pretty reasonable and after 15,000 miles no real issues. For sure a few electrical gremlins but “alt, control, delete” fixes most things. Bodywork “rust” and cracked door hinges all done under warranty no issue at Ascot. She’s a keeper alongside Ferrari Cali T, GR Yaris, M240 cab and Rangie. All do different things superbly 🙃
650s for sure, if you haven't watched it go watch Harry Metcalfes video on his 2000 mile road trip with his MSO 650s, and then his 6 month update. Apparently V Engineering have their own Accumilators which have valves fitted so once they are fitted (£300 a corner) then they just re-gas them every 3 or 4 years when the pressure drops to 4 bar or below which is way cheaper than completely replacing the OEM parts everytime
I have no idea how much the maintenance or insurance is. But I also just noticed the used prices in the US myself and they seem like great deals. I noticed you can get a 570s with less than 10k miles for less than $150k USD, saw a few for about $130k even. That's cheaper than a brand new base 911 carrera (at least with the obligatory options added). Just seems like a killer deal right now regardless of the cost to maintain it. It can't be that much if you only drive it for a few hours on saturdays, can it? Very tempting.
My choice of the 3 featured cars in the video would be 12C as the original modern McLaren ‘genesis’ car. Amazing value for money and also a softer, possibly more elegant design than the later cars.
650s spider. I'm on my 2nd. Now with Thorney and V-Engineering on side they become practical and realistic too. Its mostly down to your personal taste. If money is no object a 675LT spider, but they're double the money. Full carbon body, double again. However, any McLaren is epic fun and made to be driven. Watch all Thorney, JayEmm and Harrys Garage driving reviews. Always insist on a PDI inspection by above independents. Enjoy!
Thank you, looking forward to driving a 650s - I had 2 675lt coupes and a spider before but they were dropping in value. I then went to 600lt Spider, which I found I was driving too fast on the road! Looking forward to 2025 and driving the different models. I am doing a video with V Engineering soon as the p1 is due a service
MP4-12C has the best sound and the connection to the P1. Its also the ultimate value bargain - just make sure the previous owner(s) specced it right & looked after it! I love mine
A post 2020 720s is possible the best value secondhand supercar of all time. Hypercar performance, Porsche levels reliability in later models and relatively low cost. I would have one in a heart beat if I had the money. Not in orange though. Suits darker colours. 😁
Somebody has the dress/posh shoes on 😉 I think you are right Richard, the 720S will more than likely have a good bit more money to drop, before levelling out. Out of those three, it would be the 650S, only thing being I'd be bringing along my Monopoly money to buy it, they seem like a greta buy if you can afford a bit less than £100k on such a car. As others have already said, Harry seems to be more than happy with his recent purchase of one. Looking forward to the video, if you decide to go for a McLaren 👍
@Challengetheroad Very good choice, wearing them is like walking on a cloud. I forget what he paid, but it might be a bit higher due to its spec, from memory it was fairly well optioned by McLaren from new. I'm open to correction on that though.
I have a orange spider with carbon packs 1 and 2 and the senna seats there is a deposit on it but could be back up for sale if balance not sorted soon the bright colours with good specs sell fast they only made 173 right hand drive world wide and with that exhaust a future classic Plus they are cheaper to service and cheaper to put the warranty on them which is a must I had no problem with mine that was a concern just a few things all done under warranty
Well my lady hates it that why I had to sell had it over 2 years but she wouldn’t get in it lol but for sure this car got some attention when out to much really I’m definitely going to miss it . I’d like a 765 LT one day
650s is the sweet spot in terms of value. Recently missed a 2014 spider in orange, 18000 miles , full carbon for £72k . Was mint full ppf and been under mcl warranty it's whole life. Unbeatable value-
12C is a fabulous car, owned mine for 3 years and 16k miles and was an amazing touring car. 650s better in terms of reliability but 12C classic looks. 675LT is pick of the bunch. After p11 cars I'm not interested. They had digital dashes are less analogue and not as reliable or pretty. Value wise can't beat a 650s. Running costs of my 675LT over 5 years and 15k miles have been minimal, last service way under £1k at V engineering
need a lot more independet garages to halt the prices dropping........watch a lot of stuff on the cars and are no much different to any other high end stuff......cant see where or how high prices for work is really needed..........540/570.....is on the money for me........when it comes to styling ......less is often more...............cheers........
Be careful of wrapped cars. Removing the wrap can remove paint. Who would pay for that?? How do you know if there’s been any corrosion as well? All hidden.
@@Challengetheroad would be great if you do. Recent trip of McLaren dealer -“isn’t unheard of Super series cars needing 10/15k work often”.. this naturally puts people off. I can’t see many Ferraris or Lambo of the same age needing 15k work.
Honestly compared to what you get in the 911 market for that price of the 650s it’s an unbelievable buy. Harry MetLife loved his and with specialists like v engineering providing better support than the rubbish McLaren main dealers it’s a good buy.
@ I’m sticking to my 14 year old Merc CL 500 with 30,000 on the clock and two owners including me 😂 I’ve lost £5k over the past two years in value. Keep the videos I always watch them and pass them for others. Thanks.
They all look fabulous. Where the Porsche has a higher purchase price is this because they have the reputation of just going, compared to the McLaren where reputation is you might not get much use out of it between it breaking?
Definitely not a 12c. The 650s is probably the most sensible choice out of these 3 models. 720's need to be 2019 or newer ideally for a little bit of peace of mind..The most overlooked for value is the 570GT. Vaguely practical and can be be had from about £70k and a true alternative to the 2nd gen Audi R8 Plus..
They’re a rather niche taste. I’m sure it’s brilliant but I’d decline it even as a gift. It’s a racing car. I doubt I’m capable of enjoying it properly.
The title says 'Mclaren Used Values' - yet you can hardly say you talk much about the prices of these. I was expecting some comparison of the price of Mclarens and how they've changed etc. Mainly you keep asking me what I think about stuff! Who cares what I think I'm watching this video to find out what YOU think! Ha. Somehow we struggle through the days huh?
@@Challengetheroad Anything under £70K. That's where I have to draw the line right now. Not much choice of MC's at that price for sure. The Lotus Emira looks nice though.
$90k lbs for a 650s? Just looked here in the US, and they are $150-160k USD. I think a 190k$ new Porsche will hold it ls value much better, if not gain value. The GT3 is absolutely a better car. Not even close.
There are some fundamental issues with mclarens other than their bad reputation on quality / reliability. First, there's the small % of pple who lust after a mclaren when it's first released, who paid list and were the first in line. These folks were terribly disappointed, who walked away from their cars losing 50-75% of what they paid in just a few years plus a bad dealership structure that tries to sell them new mclarens in no time and just saying what their customers bought are crap. Plus all the reliability issues. Then there's the majority of pple who didnt want a mclaren but ended up with one due to the circumstances. They either bought one because they couldnt afford their 1st choices of supercars: ferraris lambos or porsches, and pat themselves on the back thinking at least mclarens are faster than the rest, or they bought it because it's a lot of bang for your buck (so it makes sense in certain uses, but not out of passion). Neither are the right reason IMO for buying a supercar, which should speak to your heart first and foremost. A lot of mclaren owners own them with extended warranties of 5-7k a year, and in 5 years u will realize u are paying more than a porsche which u wanted in the first place that's now still worth more than the mclaren, minus the headaches that you have to deal with to minimize your ownership costs. And most mclaren owners would never experience the feeling of owning a car for 5-10 years and it ended up being worth more than what they paid for. Of those friends whom i know own their mclarens more than 5 years, usually tried to sell it at some point but couldnt get rid of it without a big loss, so they ended up keeping it anyways and it grew on them as time goes on, as the car gets more reliable with more use and most issues have been painstakingly repaired and restored. Those that managed to get rid of it in a year or two with big losses, loved the driving experience but hated the ownership experience of losing so much value. Over the years of my personal car shopping, mclaren is always a 3rd or 4th choice, and yet everytime I drive them I am amazed at how good they are, I just dont want to own one. I hope mclaren figures it out, and really improve the formula for the brand or the "lust" for it, as they are really great cars but way more effort to create that desire, other than power and speed alone
The 12C is still the most cohesive design. An absolute bargain for that money. I still probably would have a 570S as it’s more than quick enough and I like the passive suspension. The spiders are too wanky for me. A K20 Elise would be more fun than all of them though.
Love this type of video, thanks Richard
Thanks Matt, I wasn't going to post it but it's easy watching and enjoy sharing my day.
I picked up a white 12c coupe last month and couldn’t be happier.
Nights before I know I’ll be driving it the next day are pleasantly sleepless.
Bought a 570gt from Thorney last January..had to have a new battery but nothing else..done 2 trackdays & 4000miles..great driving cars.
I would like to do more more videos on used Mclarens including 5 Series cars. We have some CTR track days this year 👍
@oneeleven9832 out of curiosity how much was the battery and was it covered by any warranty?

I couldn't live with that matt paint, that would annoy me constantly. Just makes it look rough.
I thin kthey should take it off and the car would sell quicker!
