  • This was a request from ANDRES77 who wanted to know how to use the pads similar to a TR808 rhythm composer. Just a basic video for those interested in this type of looped composing.

@erictor You're very welcome. I really enjoy making the videos and sharing hints and tips that may not be in the user manuals (which can often cause headaches).
If you have any requests for the Fantom X, Korg M3 or use of MIDI, sampling etc etc, give me a shout.

You can do this but it isn't exactly related to the above video.
The feature you want is RPS (realtime phrase sequencing). You can assign a specified number of bars on a specific channel to be triggered by hitting a particular pad or piano key. It's an extremely useful tool with endless applications.
I'd quite like to do a tutorial on this for my own enjoyment, so will aim to get that done for you in the near future.
Also, look at my other video briefly showing off RPS: /watch?v=j0Rqae31D3w

@MARIGUANA32 hi, thanks for the comment. So are you wanting to use the pads to write an entire sequence? If you want to use various loops to create a song RPS would probably be the better way to go.

Great video!. Could you upload a video for recording a song with a prs patch, and then changing instruments, without changing the song being recorded...
    Thanks

Unfortunately Roland did not put much into the drum pads, they are not dynamic nor are touch sensitive as you would think would be the case with competitive drum pads. You also need to hit dead center where pads on other equipment can be triggered from the edges.

Thanks. I always found the pads on my X6 really unstable in terms of equal response and velocity when playing them.

Hi Gear Tutorials! Great video! I have this same model of keyboard, and I'm looking to do some Daft Punk covers soon. I want to use the pads to add drum set sounds to my covers, but I want to make it a live performance that I can record through my computer with MIDI and sync with video. Can you please do a tutorial on how you might go about doing this?
    Thanks!

@thegoodrevdr In short, I don't think there is a way to loop one track on the Fantom X. Although it is possible on units such as the Korg M3.
The way around it is from the sequencer screen, hit F7 (track edit) then copy, choose the track, source bar, and number of times to paste... Done

@GREGCAST70 I know! Think I'm due a week away to recharge my batteries! haha. I've got a busy weekend with gigs, but come Monday, I'll start planning your multisample/velocity switching vid and see what I can figure out.

thanks for that also can I assign phrases to the pads after I record so I can arrange the song using the pads to play it back in other words I use the piano keys to make my basslines my piano parts string guitar and anything else using the keyboard not the pads and later assign looped tracks to the pads so that I can arrange the song with the pads to make it sound like an actual doing instead of at repeating loop of the same thing and I won't have to use the mixer to mute certain parts

Thank you very much for the video!!...
It brings me new and very useful knowledge and I think it will complement with your other videos the main idea of what I'm trying to do with those dynamic pads...
I'm gonna try to do it on my Fantom X6 soon and I will let you know...
    Thank you again!!!

Very nice tutorial. You make things very clear; I really enjoyed it. I own a Fantom X and I love the insight from folks on TH-cam who take the time to help all of us get the most out of our instruments. Cheers!!
