Update...over 14,200 rds now. Everything working well, accurate. No change in condition. Migrating from fed automatch to CCI blazer. Cheaper than mini mag and recent brick shot 500 rds with zero failures, good accuracy and I think less smoke. Fed automatch recent boxes had several low powered rds...CCI on sale here is the same price as automatch.
i actually just switched to the auto match as my tx22 compact and mark iv both like it and its 21 at my walmart, 5 for cci std, my ar22 like the 36 grain but i also have a bentz chamber beyer barrel that i didnt consider accuracy costing some reliability but i noticed last 2 fed 36 grain champ boxes i bought had a lot of super underpowereds like pellet gun levels
Mine really likes CCI Blazer as well plus Norma Tac22, but it pretty much shoot anything but these two brands have been flawless for me. I will add that Aguila 40gr. Which I’ve just pick up shoot very well as well.
It’s a great gun, I also picked up the TX22 Compact and it’s been fantastic.
@@coal_tactical can't beat automatch for overall bargain. Pretty accurate at least enuff for me and cheep. Blazer tho is hard to get at prices like automatch.

These are just fun once they are working. Lots of people have barrel problems so I'm lucky in that regard and was able to sort the reliability issues. Others haven't been as fortunate. Let me know how yours is as you accumulate shots fired.
Thank you for replying! And, I agree...no one understands that concept better than I do. I've been a consumer for over 60 years. In this case I got a $550 lemon. I even sent it back to Taurus, and it is still not acceptable enough for me to even sell it and dump it off on someone else. My conscience won't allow it. In my over 50 years of careful buying and selling guns (including most .22 handgun models), this particular purchase was the only one where there was no satisfying solution...except to eat $550 and take the hit.
Work has gotten in the way of fun but I'm about to hit 15,000 rds....no change in condition but I'm watching the polymer lower where it's wearing, and the wobbly breech block closely. Inside of barrel doesn't show any abnormal wear. Holosun hasn't hiccupped, holds zero.
Thanks for all the information on the TX22 comp. Two of my three mags were getting consistent bent brass fail to feeds, the other mag ran 100% no issues. Taurus sent me a free mag that seems to be working great. I agree the gun is very fun when working right. Aguila super extra has been great for me
had the same thing on all of my mags unfortunately. Ordered some new ones (with different casing numbers) so hopefully it'll help. Ever figure out your issue?
Might be the Aguila, not sure. Those two mags are still running perfect. I need to send the bad two mags back still@@itsschiegg
@@itsschiegg 3 mags all FTF bent shells, just ordered TANDEMKROSS extended mags with stronger springs, makes me angry, to say the least, I sent it back to Taurus, and they say I'm shooting cheap ammo
Update April 16- Now at 15,887 documented rounds. Currently have 0.9 percent malfunction rate. Barrel and components appear all good. Still watching that mid interior section of the poly lower frame. Fed automatch and Blazer, mini mag have been good rounds. Fed automatch still is best bang for the cost, still has one or two low powered cartridges per box of 325 but I can live with that it's cheap and accurate. Winchester super X shoots fine and feels like it's faster, but it's smokey and less accurate.

Thank you so much for posting such a thorough video about this gun. I read and heard how reliable the TX22 is, so I bought the TX22 Competition SCR four weeks ago. I got it and fell in love with the feel of the gun (as opposed to the smaller grip on my Victory, but more expensive). I got it to the range last weekend and have never been so disappointed in a gun's out-of-the-box performance in my life, especially that of a .22lr. It misfired or hung up or ftf every 1st to 3rd shot. Knowing and expecting the worst from a new .22, I brought 6 different ammo types, and my friend had 2 other types in his bag, all to no avail. My friend suggested to take off the stock comp which did improve reliability, but still gets a consistent 2-5 failures per every single mag load..no matter the ammo type. I put a Cyelee Wolf0 rd on it, which weighs 1.4oz...and that can't be part of the problem; it's stationary. I just hate spending hundreds of dollars having to play the Goldilocks game. It would be cool to use the stock Tandemkross comp that it came with (which is the same one I put on my Victory a few years ago with NO problem or reliability issues), but I guess i really like this gun because of the feel and capacity, and would hate having to get rid of it, especially to some buyer that I'd feel guilty selling such an unreliable pistol to. I certainly don't want to GIVE it away...it was too expensive with everything involved. This video tells the story...thanks, again..
Check out the Facebook Taurus tx22 competition group. They have trials and tribulations and lots of tips. These guns have spotty quality control, but with the tips you might overcome issues you encounter. Once they work well they are fun.

Not saying this will help but mine is 100% with cci stinger! I shoot Steel Challenge so require 100%.
When I buy new guns I take em apart clean oil.
Snap cap for a week every night. Hardly ever had a problem. Sometimes, they need broke in, sometimes u get a lemon, and it happens with everything. U can buy a brand new car and engine blows in 2days. Doesn't mean the brand of car or gun is rubbish necessarily..... humans make mistakes machines make mistakes, or get out of wack in production. Can't catch everything all the time....

if the barrel is locked what difference does it make that the slide is gapped? Also you are shooting an optic so what difference does it make that you dont like the stock sights? I have to admit I admire your ability to remember how things were in the beginning on a particular gun and how they are now. I cant tell you anything from one gun to the next as to before and after.
All true....just all the things I noticed if it helps others with their preferences. I'm a pilot and engineer by degree so I do have OCD tendencies!
Well now this is a interesting video and there is very much to like about the Taurus TX 22 competition. I bought my Taurus as soon as I can get my hands on one and it has been a excellent performer in every way. I own many 22 semi-auto pistols and the Taurus TX 22 competition is definitely my number two in the lineup and only topped by my sig Sauer p322, but the sig Sauer p322 only slightly beats the Taurus TX22 competition.
I was trying to get a Sig since I'm partial to them but couldn't get one here. So I got the Taurus before our mag capacity ban because law. Approaching 20,000 rds now. Once I got the little annoying things sorted out it's been a load of fun.
The gap is not a qc issue. They all have it. I got fed up with the optic plate loosening, so I used the nuclear option: two part epoxy on the screws and plate. Drastic, but it stays tight.
Yeah I guess it's semantics. 100% poor design tolerance in production. Call it standard when my Ruger, Browning and Sig all are much more precisely made. But once the small things are sorted or overlooked it's fun to plow thru 1,000 rds of cheap .22 at the range! Mine shoots fine now and I'm at over 22,000 rds now.
Well now this is an interesting video and you have got to like that Taurus TX 22 competition. I have owned the TX22 competition since they first come out and it was very hard to find at first, but then I finally did find one. I have probably fired somewhere around 10,000 rounds through mine with no problems. As much as I like the Taurus tx22 competition, it is my second choice cuz my most favorite 22LR pistol is the sig Sauer p322. Even though the taurus tx22 competition feels good in my hands, these the sig Sauer p322 feels a little better. Also, there are some bulk 22 ammo that the Taurus tx22 doesn't really care for. Not very many. In fact, I think the Remington Golden boy bulk ammo is the only one that I have trouble with. Not all the time but just enough. That's a little irritating because I don't shoot anything but cheap Walmart ammo through mine and the Remington Golden boys are readily available. My sig Sauer p322 Will shoot them all day long with no problem. In fact, I haven't found any bulk ammo that it won't shoot.
Cool. P322 is a nice piece. All have tendencies or their own personalities. I have now a lot more rounds shot, and have settled on ccisv since it's more consistent and more accurate. Few cents more per rd.......
Excellent review. I’ve been looking for a 22LR pistol and it’s between the Competition SCR version and the Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite.
If you don't mind 10 Rd clips the Ruger is one of the industry benchmarks, without the poor quality control of Taurus. I have a old Ruger mkI that shoots better and is rock solid. Taurus is like a box of chocolates....never know what you'll get. People in the Taurus circles are still getting bad barrels from the factory. I was lucky and got a great barrel and was also able to sort out the other issues. Mow over 20k rds and am having fun but it was a headache getting it to where it is now.
Thank you for the info Professor Fly. You are correct, the price point is too high for a project gun (based on your detailed description). I tuned up a used Kel-Tec PMR-30 for less money and effort. I am looking for a good .22LR pistol for training and helping family members new to guns. The cheap side of me keeps looking at this gun, but my gut tells me to save your money and buy one of the guns you mentioned. I grew up shooting a Mark II, and my Dad, brother and I shot the crap out of it; we eventually replaced a bunch of major components (with original parts), buffed it out and re-blue it. The gun was not in his safe after he passed, so someone out there has a great little gun. Nothing you buy today will last as long as things of yesteryear, you learn the rules and play their game to win.
I also own a MkI from my dad. Wonderful to shoot, accurate. They don't make em like that anymore...... It would be interesting to compare the kel tec durability to this tx22. Once its tinkered on appropriately, its been running well. over 25,000 rds now. .22s should last a very long time as a low power rd....i would think....
I've seen many 22's with a gap between the slide and frame. It depends on how the slide rides on the frame. CZ has internal "rails?" so you can't see through it, but for instance the Glock 44 has the same gap. You can see parts moving in there. If I remember correctly the FN 502 has that too. But I guess, when you see it you can't unsee....I have the same OCD 😅
I'm an engineer too so double OCD....
I like my TX22 Comp, shoots great. Stay away from bulk ammo, because of the wax on the bullets and case they will not feed well in the plastic double stack magazine. I only buy 22lr in the 50 round boxes and that has eliminated 95% of magazine feed problems.
Agree those coatings make for more mag cleaning...
Could you possibly add a shim small washer in the trigger to stiff it up? Also thanks for the updates nice to know they make a better pew pew then they used to makes me consider this model
I hadn't thought of that. But at this point, i have over 25,000 rds through this, and I don't even notice the takeup. Its ugly...but once past that (its due to the internal trigger safety), the reset is where I hover anyways which puts me right back at the break, and that for followup shots is good enough for me.
Thanks for the detailed review and sharing your experiences with the TX22 competition.. We picked up one of the signature models a few months back. At first it had all the FTF and or bolt over brass bent bullets. etc. After a little tinkering. buffing, etc. etc.. and testing ammo. Its running at over 99% across 6 mags. There are days where I fire 400+ rounds without a single issue. I found she like to eat Aguila 40G round nose HV for whatever reason, thats what she like to eat.
Currently at over 9000 rounds. and love the gun. Not gona lie. the first thousand rounds were rough. But now that shes running right and I love this TX22!!

Yeah it can be hit or miss.....sometimes its just a long wear in period. Should not be like that out of the box, but there can be hope.....
Question for you? With the extended magazine I thought I heard you say there was no spring. How does that work? I really like your video on the TX22.
Extended mags come with longer springs so don't worry. The tandemkross wingman 5 Rd extender is just right for me without sticking out of the grip too far. Seemed to be cheapest on shop Taurus. I found 21 rds to also be just right. But some love the Galloway 25 Rd but to me it's much more expensive.

@@DELTA_77805glad it worked out for you. Each of these has different issues sometimes so keep looking for the little things centric to yours. I have over 24,000 rds thru mine now and it's not the perfect high end quality like volquartsen but it shoots reliablynow and is a heck of a lot of fun.
Taurus really could of nailed this with a tiny bit more attention esp when they're jumping into the mid $450s on a 22. I think it should have taller sights to co witness, is that front sight even changeable?
Yes the sights are easily replaced. I think they went too cheap the plastic rear sight is really junk. Doesn't hold elevation, a common issue. Tandemkross makes some good but pricey sights for this. Others are avail online and I recommend just about any over the stock ones. I never notice since I shoot red dots.

What did you think of the trigger? I just purchased the TX22 Comp. and the trigger pull is stiff and feels gritty.
Its ugly during takeup. But many like the victory trigger mod. I shoot entire clips at a time, so after the first takeup trigger pull i'm just back and forth over the break and reset. Those are fine for me. Take a gander at the TK victory trigger. Not cheap, but others seem to like it.
Question, how did you get your Holosun to mount? I had to Dremal down one of the adapters to make it work. I think the mold Holosun uses is off slightly. If you found an adapter can you post a link and the auto loader?
The adapters can be flipped upside down and spun 360° to fit what you need my eps fit perfectly
He is correct the adapters are 'labled' for orientation. On mine, it wasn't a perfect fit there was still a small gap but it did mount. You should not have to dremel anything. I know this is late but Taurus will send you a new one if it isn't working. But double check the orientation per the manual.
Iv been really debating one of these or like the buckmark black and gold, or a mark 4. It's a hard decision when I don't have the option to shoot them. Also anyone interested in a shield plus performance center 4" ported barrel with the red dot? Looking to connect with a buyer works out better for both involved, has about 400 rounds on it
Get a Ruger Mark IV; I’ve been running mine for years and it works great. All malfunctions are due to ammo; it eats nearly everything I feed it. The weight of the target model keeps recoil minimal, rather than paying extra for a tx22.
@@iwangdoodle they all seem nice to me. The mark iv and buckmark o want happen to be the higher end ones lol and the tx22 is little cheaper. I may end up with 2 by time it'd said and done. The buckmark black and gold is really slick looking but like $650 I think
I've also got a Ruger mkI original. Love it. If I were choosing between a buckmark and mkiv I'd pick mkIV. Well built, accurate. I'd replace the grip to something a bit larger but I am amazed at my mkI. Accurate as heck and zero issues. Solid build.
@@fly4fun463 I ended up getting a TX22 competition today, was a pretty good deal. The guns usually like $425 and it came with a bushnell 250 red dot and couple upgrades for $500. I want to get a new trigger for it and one of the charging loops that go on the back of the slide. I just really liked how that Buckmark vision looked pretty sick but that was around $650 with nothing
@@Yahweh-Chase-Bella it is a price tradeoff for sure. U might check out the tx22 competition Facebook. It's open and they share tips and info on holsters triggers etc. Similar to other forums. I've tried the keeptinkering trigger, others love the tk trigger.

How’d you fix the failure to feed issues?
Hi sorry so late to respond. I have a diff video posted that touches on the thigns I did to sort mine out. I have found over the last couple years on the forums that what I did i a collection of the various things others have done that seems to help, depending on the particular 'personality' of their particular one. Taurus is inconsistent so some fixes will work on some and some will not. Its trial and error amongst the fixes you will see posted....
Did Taurus fix the barrel problem?
The barrels are better but the forum I monitor shows a lot of replacements and some replacements are also bad...out of round, keyholing bullets, rifling not symmetric. But it isn't as spotty as before is my sense.

Chris the Ruger mk series is well made, and I'm partial to Ruger but more expensive. If I didn't care about mag capacity I would have gotten a Ruger, and if money was no object a SW model 41 or volquartzen custom. I went Taurus because of mag capacity, and I could not get the Sig p322 before the high capacity ban here, and the Taurus grip is more like my full size 9mm vs SIG p322. SIG p322 is a pretty small grip. But Sig is well made. Glock and Beretta make .22 rimfires that others like, the Beretta is a good buy if you shoot Beretta 9 mm....very close in dimensions so excellent for training. All can be fussy on ammo. But when I shoot my buddies model 41 and it goes bang it's dead nuts on.
@@fly4fun463 When my TX22 Comp SCR was back at Taurus my buddy gave me his super low round count P322 w/Holoson 507k x2 to use (and buy if I liked). I have small hands and the grip for me was too small. Very uncomfortable gun to hold & shoot. They also have their issues, especially light primer strikes. I had several using CCI Mini Mag. Many complaints on Sig forums about the P322. Needless to say I got my TX22 back, it's running fairly well now, although the purchase deal he made me for the P322 was great, the last thing I needed was another finicky .22lr pistol.

I think you should be singing praises about the Taurus TX22 Competition. Most everything you mention is relatively small in nature. How about the extensive fouling issues with the Sig P322, which is way worse than the failure to feed and eject issues the Sig was experiencing. You have over 18K rounds through your TX22. There aren’t many guns out there with those stats and small to no issues.
I’ve had the TX22 Competition since Christmas, but haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet. Have it all tricked out with Cyelee Wolf 0 micro red dot and OLight Baldr RL light and laser. Really looking forward to breaking it in. I originally purchased a Sig P322 from Cabella’s. However, I took it back the next day after watching videos of the issues people were having with barrel fouling, to the point it was dangerous to shoot, as a bullet wouldn’t go through the barrel. Told Cabella’s I wanted a different gun because they didn’t disclose known issues with the P322. They said their policy was no exchanges or refunds on firearms. I just stood my ground and wore them down.
FYI, the barrel on the TX22 Competition is a bull barrel, which is about twice as thick as the standard barrel and that on the P322. All the Competition barrels are excellent, due to their thickness and 16:1 twist.
@@martylucas8557 It really is about hit or miss quality control. I was lucky to sort out just those things...no slide cracks or crappy barrel rifling and keyhole trajectories like other buyers have had. But either way we shouldn't have to hunt and peck and fiddle around to get things working. Should work right out of the box like other brands.
OK, are you Nelson wearing black mask like the Lone Ranger! I know you are in some sort of Costume or maybe you are an employee for Taurus? It sure sounds like you are working for them! Well, if you are legit, you have me beat by several thousand rounds in my Two P17's. I have over 1000 rounds in each, with No Failures at all But Both my Guns cost me less than one TX-22! I was thinking at one time that I would buy another Taurus But after returning 3 of them in one year, I decided Never to Buy another one ever again!
Sorry for late response. Ha I had not thought of that. just the camera angle I was actually doing one of my first ever youtubes, and using my smartphone! No never worked for a gun manufacturer and they didn't give this to me for a review...not with my quality of video making. Hey round counts....I now have over 25,000 rounds through this thing. Now that its sorted out its a gas. But Taurus should never make anyone go through this to sort it out. .... Ruger Mk1 from my dad never had these sort of issues.
My gun of the year 2019 TX-22 only had about 400 rds through it when it started key holing, there was only a trace of lands & groves visable, nearly smooth bore. I only used CCI mini mag solid nose copper coated 1235 fps , it ran perfect, no other problems. I ordered a new barrel from Taurus, I haven't taken it back out yet , soon . I think the play in the slide is fairly normal, the fixed barrel blow back design is where the accuracy comes from. However without land's & grove and proper twist rate the bullet can not stabilize in flight , hence no accuracy and key holing acures . The barrel must not have been hardened after the groves were cut in , I'm guessing. You have an amazing rd CT on yours ,wow !
