Very good video for all us trying to learn something new. I am working on a early 1942 MB Slat grill Willys.

Good thing you can do it! It is always interesting to watch your metal manipulations. Thank you for the video!

That was good. Im just under where you are with welding. I’m gonna take your advice and give it a try. Looks like doable fun.

When I use flux core wire I take the gas shroud off the nozzle. Gives a much better view of the weld. Good example of using what you've got to get the job done.

Only simple thing I would do in addition, once you clamp the panel, get a planishing hammer and dolly, go around the joins, that will get them perfectly level, taking out any lumps or bumps.

For the filler any problems using the JB Weld products instead of plastic/Bondo ? Great inspirational video. I am facing a lot of patchwork on my Slatgrill, You are right about making the attempt to do it oneself. My welding friends tell me it builds a Zen-like bond when one sees the project proceed and reawakens a hidden spirit in the machine as one brings it back to "life". No, they do not offer help to work, but like you, inspire and the to mentor. Thanks again. JeePa (of G503)

I have used JB Weld on other items with great success. It spreads well, and more like steel. It sands up a little harder than plastic fillers. Thanks for your comment, and best wishhes on your project.

I think your welding went really well on that panel, you must have a very good MIG welder, I found that it is far easier to make the whole panel and fit each section in as original, this is because being flat, the slightest distortion shows up, and I was unwilling to use filler, which on flat panels tends to fall off, welding a new section in is very time consuming, so if you have a simple sheet metal folder, and some wood formers ,you can make any part of the body tub except the centre floor island, which is usually OK due to being covered in oil , it seems a big job, but taken one by one the panels are not difficult to make and plug weld in place. Team G503: Well ! I have to say that is really impressive performance for a really cheap welder, the only people that can use these cheap things are the experts, they are so much more difficult to use that a real one, and your welding looks very good on thin metal! You would not get that performance from a cheap welder in Europe.
