Im so excited, putting mine on today! Full setup will be this J-pipe, nameless midpipe, and cnt racing axelback uffler delete. oh and intake. Also got my brentuning burble add on to my stage 2+ ready to rock and roll with this new Jpipe.
please get a pro tune...STORY TIME....tldr: engine almost blew up, replaced under warranty... longer version: I have a 15' WRX and I ran an OTS stage 2 map when I did my J-pipe and about 2 months after flashing the OTS map i started hearing a ticking noise. Then went to get a pro tune but always got a lot of feedback knock and the tuner could not figure out what was causing it. Figured it was related to that ticking. Long story short, I put the car back to stock completely to bring it in to dealer to take a look at (i was at 51k miles so just before the power train warranty expires). It was a risk that the dealer comes back saying "oh we can tell the car had its ECU reset" so I drove it around for like 2 weeks turning the key on and off as many times as I could to register a bunch of key turns in the ECU, pushing the last reflash a bunch of key turns away (btw its my understanding that a battery disconnect shows up just the same on the ECU as a reflash). Must've worked bc the dealer said they couldn't see any evidence of a tune on the ECU :) but in the end, what happened to be the problem was within the oil pan. Somehow the metal baffle plate inside the pan sheared off from the 3 bolts holding it in place and went up into the block. The ticking was the #4 piston slapping against this piece of sheet metal on every downstroke. I was millimeters away from catastrophic engine failure. Regardless, because of the damage to the piston and cylinder walls, they replaced the entire short block under warranty. Now I dont know if this was just a "manufacturers defect" which the called it out to be by the dealer or if the OTS map caused something weird but I feel that the "One size fits all" type of map is not a good idea. A reputable tuner will be able to dial everything in to make sure that the engine is running at its best, but also its safest! Best of luck brother, sounds awesome!
Thanks for the information and insight! I've got a few more parts coming and then want to protune. Not driving the car much before then, so I'm hoping not to cause any damage.
Dude I see your car all the time. Wanted to stop you in Westerville by the giant eagle and ask what your setup was. I just searched catted j pipe WRX and first video. That's so weird and awesome! Should roll by my work sometime!
Did you figure out what to do about the heat shield? Did you just leave it off? I have this same j pipe. I love it. I am just paranoid about heat soak. And creating a heat shield for this has been a pain in the ass due to the cat. Any advice would be gret
I’m looking at getting this j pipe soon for my 17 wrx! Sounds amazing. Did you do the secondary restrictor pill delete? Also any issues with the tune? I’m stage 1+ big sf as well right now.
Will this throw a CEL if installed on a COBB OTS tune? Can a tuner remove the CEL with the COBB Accessport? I am not seing this listed as GESI, is that an issue? Sorry if these are noob questions.
I don't think it'll throw a code, tuners using cobb can no longer tune out the cel for emissions related codes, I installed and do not have a cel and its been a few weeks
Any chance for a sound clip with the CNT axle backs from you other video and the new j-pipe? I'm buying my j-pipe tomorrow and trying to find something on the quieter side.
Nothing so far. Just using the Cobb accessport OTS map for catted jpipe. Only thing I have is a weird rattling noise that I think is a heat shield. Need to get under the car and identify what’s up.
The stages are kind of just Cobb's verbiage. I have a jpipe and axleback deletes, then Y pipe is stock. The stage 2 cobb map is for a catted jpipe. The stage 2 plus map is if you have jpipe and intake, which is what I flashed.
What other mod have you done I mean what other pipes have you changed??? I have the r400 invidia Gemini catback but mine doesn’t poop!! Do you think if I changed the downpipe will it sound like yours?? Or do I need to do something else please help me thanks!
I have the ETS muffler deletes, so that is allowing for more of the pops you hear. R400 has mufflers, but the downpipe would definitely make yours louder, the pops would just be more subtle.
Any mid to top end torque gain? Just got my 2019, low range torque is awesome, then it sucks over 4k rpm... thinking about j pipe the car and hope this will fix it
Lup Fa I just put my mishi dp in with COBB stage 2 tune. The throw back in seat feeling isn’t as hard as stock tune but it pulls all the way to redline and daily drivability is a lot better with the throttle mapping (put your foot half down and get half throttle instead of full at 30% down)
@@KylesWheelHouse Dude I see your car all the time. Wanted to stop you in Westerville by the giant eagle and ask what your setup was. I just searched catted j pipe WRX and first video. That's so weird and awesome! Should roll by my work sometime!
Makes me wonder with all these complaints and mods you have to do to the car to get it where its not a little bitch is it really worth it? I purchased a 2019, 2 weeks ago and it seems that are a bunch of complaints or gripes about the car I wonder if I screwed up.
6:50 if you're just here for the sound review peeps. It'd be cool to watch it all though :)
Kyle Andrew @ 6:38 your facial expression says it all. Lol nice vid! Definitely subbed!
Haha thanks! Much appreciated.
Kyle Andrew thanks
So you can just do the stage 2 flash on the cobb accessport instead of having it tuned? or is it just a safe tune on the cobb accessport
What I find intriguing is the joy on people's faces when they drive their Subaru. Especially when it has to do with the sound.
...(the right) exhaust sound good...tire noise not good. Crappy muddy bass from infotainment not good.

It’s gonna sound amazing and be very loud!

Cool story, but you can’t tune out mechanical damage inside the engine.
cobb shelf tunes are pretty safe for little bolt ons
Exactly what I did too, drive around with my blown gearbox for a month to save up key turns lol got a new one
smittywoodshop you saved so many subie owners with this post lol
Just gotta say thanks you saved me ALOT of time brotha
What about the restrictor pill...
Sounds great!! You know it sounds good with that cheese from ear to ear.
10:23 best sound yet
Haha you know it!
Did you ever get check engine light? I have it on mine since I have a turbo back exhaust … maybe
Dude I see your car all the time. Wanted to stop you in Westerville by the giant eagle and ask what your setup was. I just searched catted j pipe WRX and first video. That's so weird and awesome! Should roll by my work sometime!
Brandon P you are all in Cbus?
Sounds good! Good old state Route 3! Right by my house
Yep! Good eye! And thanks.
Same pipe did not wanna sit in hanger had to pull and leave heat shield off redrill a new hole in hanger.
What did you do about the ground wire
Hi. Have only j pipe? With oem Exhaust? Ty
Came across to this vids and just want to ask if u tune it burble cuz of the pops or just cuz of the jpipe?
Did you figure out what to do about the heat shield? Did you just leave it off? I have this same j pipe. I love it. I am just paranoid about heat soak. And creating a heat shield for this has been a pain in the ass due to the cat. Any advice would be gret
it’s been 2 years. what’s the verdict on the downpipe??
With just the Turbo XS catted J pipe its not very loud just turbo whistle when it spools, finally adding an intake ill see what that does
Nice, enjoy!
Sounds amazing!
Thanks!
awesome video! looking at the TurboXS for my 21 wrx. How long waa the extension on your ratchet and what size are the bolts? Also how is the drone?
I’m looking at getting this j pipe soon for my 17 wrx! Sounds amazing. Did you do the secondary restrictor pill delete? Also any issues with the tune? I’m stage 1+ big sf as well right now.
Right. That's my question as well.

doing mine tomorrow! Cobb catted and resonated, to be exact
Nice! Have fun.
How are you liking the Cobb?
Very nice bro!! Looks great!
Thanks man!
Did you have to use an adapter for the stock midpipe? Also did you have to use a gasket for the front j-pipe to the down pipe?
do i need an adapter from downpipe to tomei catback or just use the gasket?
I'm not sure on the tomei
Did you reuse the factory heat shield? Apart from fighting with the nits (current state for me) video has been extremely helpful!
Factory heat shield didn’t fit after instal. Glad it’s helped so far!
Hey what did you do with the heat shield? Did you leave it off? Couldn’t get mine to fit
I just put my new J pipe on a couple weeks ago and yea you don't need a heat shield with the aftermarket ones.
Don't get me wrong. You do need a heat shield.... Unless your okay with a significant amount of heat soak in ur engine bay and high higher IATs
I have this j-pipe with invidia r400 and it’s great
Nice! I bet it sounds good.
Do you get a nice turbo whistle from the exhaust when you rev it ? On a scale of 1-10 how loud is it?
Maybe about 5 but I also have a blow off valve
Mine is prob 9/10 overall, turbo whistle is audible, but nothing crazy.
Any chance for a sound clip with the CNT axle backs from you other video and the new j-pipe? I'm buying my j-pipe tomorrow and trying to find something on the quieter side.
Been meaning to make one. I'll try to get it out next week, I have the ETS exhaust on mine though. Not on the quiet side AT ALL haha, but it's fun.
Can you add just the front pipe and be done?
Do you have an automatic or a manual?
How much power does it make
3 years later, how is the car running? Did u get a pro tune or still on the OTS map?
Still on OTS. Seems to be ok for now haha.
Hey man have you had any problems with the turbo xs j pipe throwing codes ???
Nothing so far. Just using the Cobb accessport OTS map for catted jpipe. Only thing I have is a weird rattling noise that I think is a heat shield. Need to get under the car and identify what’s up.
So you just need a jpipe to go for stage 2? Not full exhaust system? How about the ap stage 1 and stage 2 theyre different ots map right what you do?
The stages are kind of just Cobb's verbiage. I have a jpipe and axleback deletes, then Y pipe is stock. The stage 2 cobb map is for a catted jpipe. The stage 2 plus map is if you have jpipe and intake, which is what I flashed.
Did you just do the stage 2 with the access port when you installed the J pipe? And did you get check engine light on?
The OTS map is Stage 2+ with my setup because I have the intake as well. No check engine lights, the jpipe is catted.
@@KylesWheelHouse is an Cobb access port tune good for long term?
Better to have a pro tune long term, but I have not gone that route. Now things will be changing, with Cobb at least, so we’ll see what happens.
It sounds like that after just a jpipe and mid pipe? No cat back?
Might be running muffler deletes. But not sure
Did you re use the heat guard
What other mod have you done I mean what other pipes have you changed??? I have the r400 invidia Gemini catback but mine doesn’t poop!! Do you think if I changed the downpipe will it sound like yours?? Or do I need to do something else please help me thanks!

Is that a stock Exhaust

Is that a muffler delete or a catback exhaust if so what kind is it?
ETS muffler deletes and TurboXS catted Jpipe.
What exhaust set up do you have on the car?
Catted TutboXS jpipe, stock midpipe, ETS axleback muffler deletes.
Hey what stage OTS map were you running in this video, were those pops and crackles just from putting the downpipe on?
Ots stage 2+. Yep all from jpipe.
Wow you are really good at driving manual!
Thanks!

What’s your exhaust setup besides the j pipe ?
ETS muffler deletes as well.
I was just as happy when I did mine but why’d your car backfire so much ?
I'm not sure. I've kind of found the sweet spot for shifts and revving in neutral to get the pops....for fun. Try not to do it often haha.

You used OTS stage 2?
Yes
hey brother is this with stock catback?
I have ETS muffler deletes a well.
What kind of exhaust did you have at the time??
Still the same, ETS axleback and TurboXS catted jpipe.
Stock midpipe?
Yep
Kyle Andrew did you need an adapter for the stock mid pipe?
Carcaine is a hell of a drug
Bro i had no idea you can change the pedal sensitivity?!? I barely hit the throttle and I’m at like 2-2.5 k rpm
The tune helps a bit. Stock is definitely touchy.
How'd u do that?
@@Kanadian-Squirrel cobb accessport and the correct tune for the parts installed, gives you a linear throttle
Are you logging any data on your AP? Do you notice a big difference over stage 1+?
I'm not, but I need to start. There is a noticeable difference. I should talk about that in an upcoming vid.
You get the Like cause of the pups.
🐕👍
What did you do with the ground strap?
Made a harness out of wire and wrapped around the bolt that holds the O2 sensor plug.
@@KylesWheelHouse how did you reinstall the heat shield bracket that goes between the jpipe and turbo stud nut?
Whos tune did you use?
Just on cobb's ots tune right now
Sounds super drony
Certain rpms for sure. I’m used to it now.
Penitrating oil 🤦🏾♂️🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂
Bye bye any chance of future warranty lol 👍🏾
It's been long gone haha
what did you do with the ground strap going to the exhaust?
What did you do about the ground wire?
same question here
What did you do about the ground wire?
Honestly can’t remember at this point, it’s been so long. Wherever online instructions told me to put it, I put it haha.
