Honestly, while color pairs would be easier; I could see making the teams tri-colored. I mean some of these artworks look to have a third primary color anyway, and some of the teams feels like they could fit a third color where we’re expecting two (ex; the first team with the elves, Vedalken, Dwarves, a blue & green artwork, but a formally mono-Red leader.) Maybe I’m wearing a tinfoil hat in this one, and maybe color pairs are just way more likely; but if they do go for 3 colours, I wouldn’t be surprised.
I think we're actually getting shards and wedges Aether Rangers = Temur Champions of Amonkhet = Esper Cloudspire Racing Team = Jeskai The Guidelight Voyagers = Naya The Speed Demons = Abzan The Goblin Rocketeers = Mardu The Alacrian Quickbeasts = Bant The Speedbrood = Sultai The Keelhaulers = Grixis The Endriders = Jund Some of these I will admit I have more confidence in their placement than others but I feel certain that we shouldn't actually be looking at 2 color combos.
@Personguy0 And yet we have been shown two Commander precons for the set that focus on 3 color combos. Two Commander precons that line up quite nicely with the first two teams on the list. And just looking at some of these other groups and their descriptions I definitely get the feeling like a third color could be EASILY slotted into their identity.
I think March of the Machines was a test run of battles so they weren’t making more sets with it until they knew how that fared. Since they build sets three years out, that may mean we won’t see more battles until early to mid 2026
"We removed listed MSRP from all of our products to encourage price gouging, but silver lining, we paid a consultant and focus grouped for months to help us not offend anyone!"
I mean, if the old cards remain Kaladesh, and there's an in universe explanation for the change, I don't see the issue. It's like calling Mirrodin as New Phyrexia
Whatever works for people honestly. At least they didn't go the revisionist route of "It was always Avishkar. Kaladesh? Oh that was a name some random guy in accounting came up with, we fired that racist prick." They saw an honest mistake and corrected it both irl & in the Canon without retconning. Doesn't change the fact that there are 100's of other more important problems rn, but hey that's the biz.
They can't go back and remove the name from products. This is like the tribal change all over again where nobody once cared and now that they announced the change suddenly people will act like they always felt it was offensive.
@saw31489 Normally I'd agree, but if it is a slur in the language of the actual irl culture the plane is based on, it is at least understandable. Still far from the worst thing they've done tho, and far from the first issue they should be addressing rn.
What I’m curious about it how they’ll make this whole set around vehicles, yet make the different color combos do different things. Will it work well and we’ll have variance in vehicles or will it just all be samey? Except Selesnya I suppose, an animal just isn’t a vehicle, so that color will probably focus on Mounts and the Saddle mechanic.
More mindless errata to remedy a problem that doesn't exist so the consultants can still have a job. They could have paid me the money and I'd have told them that no one has complained yet and that if people do, no one will give a fuck.
i am excited for mad max shenanigans and golagri bugriders. Hope i can make a distinct deck that's not to similar to my Kotori however... Or at the least implement some good stuff
Im black, and i find the reason behind the name change dumb. They validated a minority with a non-existent problem and changed something that if you polled a majority of players, didnt even know that negative connotation or were unbothered. But yea, the themes ok ig. It gives the same enegery as casual anime filler arc. Wish we got more duskmourn or outlaws of thunder junction.
People in India that are of the same race yet happen to be darker are attacked with bleach and called Kala by tens of thousands each year. It would be like if one of the worlds most popular games came from another language country and accidentally included the n-word when naming a fantasy world. It would be upsetting to Americans. Indias population is like 5 times ours
Isnt it confirmed that the two precons are three colors, why would they not have some synergy between the standard set and the commander decks for the set
I believe the two precons are 2 of the three planes that are a part of the race, and not just the teams. Said planes could have significance in the story as obstacles in the race. Only going off colours, the precons being 3 colours and teams 2 would mean you could put 3 teams cleanly into the precons, instead of limited to the one team. Living Energy could have Aether Rangers, Goblin Rockiteers and the Keelhaulers. And Eternal Might could have the Champions of Amonkhet, the Guidelight Voyagers and the Speed Demons. A good result would be if the precons could play differently if changed with one of those teams in mind.
Next step: They change the name of the continent of Otaria to something else, because they think a 20 something years old name of in a forgotten (and forsaken by them) storyline, because it is offensive in a cettain language. If they do so they'd have to chance the name of a really prominent planeswalker, because it might have somewhat explicit conotations, on that same language... Urza forbids they read this and decide to make it.
If I was okay with any set having a fast limited environment, it would be the racing set. They could have ONE format speed levels and I would be fine with it, Actually if the set was slow, I think people would hate it.
I'm sick of companies walking on eggshells to avoid potentially offending people. Especially in this case, the maybe .1% of people that would, not only know about this, and be offended by it. I don't remember hearing a SINGLE person say anything about this when it first came out or since. Ridiculous.
I sometimes speed up some videos but this is the only channel for which I have to slow down a video to understand what they're saying. Mitch is incapable of speaking slowly, it seems.
new phyrexia was changed from mirrodin and before that it was called Argentum. And the original phyrexia had another name too. Plane names have changed before it's nothing new people just want to be outraged at everything these days.
Will stick to Kaladesh. It reminds me of..like actual real world countries, (i.e Bangladesh) and it reminds me of the Protoss from Starcraft (The Kala). It's far more cooler.
On the matter of the plane name change, I am okay with it but they should have done a better job of vetting it before naming the plane in the first place if they were going to borrow from real world cultures and words.
New kaladesh lore is literally pandering the globalist agenda. No localities, just one big utopian government ruling the entire plane that was "peacefully" surrendered.
Incel nonsense? For not liking a theme? Holy fuck my dude, you need to take a break from the internet. Would objecting to spider-man be incel behaviour too?
Most MtG TH-camrs have fallen right in line with lapping up this woke, nonsensical change. Remember, WotC hired an outside consultant agency(Sweet Baby Inc flavor) to come in and help them avoid hypothetical offense. Kaladesh is still Kaladesh, tribal is still tribal. We all know the company is poisoned, all that matters is if the cards in this particular set are fun, broken, or boring. Then back onto the carousel till the next monthly set release.
Omg shutup with this bs. Plenty of "Woke" games and series do very well look at BG3 so shut it. With your rightwing grifter complaining about everything.
Checking with the real life group that serves as direct source material for a piece of fiction and only changing the name to something that is still on brand but can’t be misconstrued with a prejudiced term is not woke bs. Wizards and hasbro is doing so much other bs rn this is the least of our concerns
There are 10 three-color combos as well. Maybe this is a tri-color set because the commander decks are three colors each
I'm calling it. Ten factions. We're getting wedges and shards in the same set.
Possible but it is more likely it is just the Ravinica color pairs
I wish, but it's just gonna be the 2-color combinations
Honestly, while color pairs would be easier; I could see making the teams tri-colored. Champions of Amonkhet = Esper
Cloudspire Racing Team = Jeskai
The Guidelight Voyagers = Naya
The Speed Demons = Abzan
The Goblin Rocketeers = Mardu
The Alacrian Quickbeasts = Bant
The Speedbrood = Sultai
The Keelhaulers = Grixis
The Endriders = Jund

I hope this set has racing themed battles.
It would be cool to have like the name of the racetrack as a battle so we can have art of how the race track look like.
@LycanDreams9159 I'm kind of at a loss on them not using the mechanic more. Thunder Junction seemed like a good set to have duel themed battles.
I think March of the Machines was a test run of battles so they weren’t making more sets with it until they knew how that fared. Since they build sets three years out, that may mean we won’t see more battles until early to mid 2026
YES SUCH A GOLD IDEA
Either deathrace or yugioh 5d style battles lol
"We removed listed MSRP from all of our products to encourage price gouging, but silver lining, we paid a consultant and focus grouped for months to help us not offend anyone!"
Accurate
getting the priorities straight
Literally had it for what 3 sets?
And the new name is do you wear male genitalia in Albanian
I mean fuck WotC but I'd also pick literally anything else for this example, given that they've run that policy back.

@@Personguy0 Yes, that's known as an in-universe change, when something happens in the universe of the story to precipitate the change.
@@saw31489 that's false

I really hope it's shards and wedges, we just got 10 2-color factions in bloomburrow and we already have like 4.5 ravnica sets
For a moment I thought that they put in canon that gruul goblin faction from Unstable, but those were Goblin Explosioneers not Rocketeers
They self- report their own racism...
At least they didn't try to act like it never happened at all, but there's many more important issues they should be addressing.

guess we might never see Aetherborn again

3 color teams were also goin back to tarkir
I beleve kaladesh was the first 3 color set (if my memory holds right, I may be wrong) but it makes sence that this set is going to be the same
The Alara block was the first 3 color sets its where the names Esper, Naya, Jund, Bant, and Grixis come from.
@alucard8433 ahh ok I dident know that thanks
There is the possibility that the "Goblin Rocketeers" is the same faction as from Unstable(?), and if that's the case their probably the Gruul team.

Aether rangers sounds like the temur precon so it's probably a three color faction

i think it will be 2 color hybrid with a third color added, so izzet hybrid and white, or simic hybrid with red.
