This show was clearly just because he had a really interesting life story that would make lots of money as a TV show, and he doesn't appear to actually be very good as a comedian. He was making this show, trauma be damned, for the money.

I have tears in my eyes. We know how much conversation there’s to be had around SA as women, but it’s so very rarely talked about SA happening to men and my heart breaks & is also so immensely proud of Richard for being a voice for men having experienced this in his show. I had no idea him in the show was the creator let alone also the one that experienced it. I can’t imagine how difficult it must have been, possibly triggering. He’s done something incredible, giving a voice to these men who experienced SA. Showing the stigma also around the “why did you wait so long to report it”. All the respect to him. ❤️‍🔥

It is a good series but why won't he name his abuser, made it easy enough to find her so why not him, he could have probably abused countless others in the time since it happened to him, possibly even to younger boys.
I get it's a dramatisation of true events but if the abuse was as bad as potrayed or worse surely you wouldn't want the same to happen to to others.
I have my own experience of abuse so I'm not just surmising here. Richard Osman says that everybody within the comedy circle knows who he is but Gadd has the personal experience & knows it to be true. You can feel his conflict as to what's happening to him, the callous colleagues he works with and all the others who create doubt in his mind that what's happening is wrong, simply because he's a man. The sexual assault scene was brilliantly done. The fact that he was touched unwillingly but had a fairly normal male reaction and the hate he felt for himself for that was heartbreaking. Richard Gadd was getting on my nerves too in the film tbh. A lot of his trials could've been avoided by him standing up for himself WHICH is precisely why it is so important to instill self confidence in your children. He seemed to be a broken man before the abuse started and I'm glad he's getting the help he needs now. And I loved how he was able to feel the relief of finally being honest about what was going on with him... part of the reason Martha was able harass him, by threatening to tell his secrets.
As for "Martha" there is little rehabilitation for a vindictive psycho or sociopath.
Even if she did not go to jail (which seems to be the point she harps on) she is overall that person and proved it on her little hobo tour of threats and goal post moving.

But the more nuanced point that I think a lot of people missed is that Gad blames himself too, he claims he had a lot of problems too and there were things he should have done to stop it /not show interest but he didn’t cause he was insecure and had his own mental health struggles. There is no 100% blame as he knows he wasn’t totally innocent in what went down either.. I don’t think people understand that. The show is meant to show the complexity of it cause it’s shown that the women is very mentally unwell and delusional.

Well, what *can* one really add to the conversation after pretty much everything that *can* be said about this superb drama series has been stated clearly and fully already?
First of all, I had not expected a true story, let alone all the myriad twists and turns the story ultimately took. But in short, WOW! Talk about pushing ALL the emotional buttons. As dark as the story gets, I had not anticipated *at all* just where the story was going to lead.
Superb casting all round, and superbly acted. Finally, kudos to Richard Gadd - I dare say it was a catharsis of sorts, mining and reliving painful emotional trauma first-hand, let alone spinning it out into what has undoubtedly already established itself as something of a high-water mark in dramatic creativity. Hats off to ya, squire!

He found himself drawn to Martha because she made him feel good for examples she laughed at his rubbish jokes when no one else would! she was there for him all the time Martha made sure she mentioned things they had in common! This makes him drawn to Martha it makes him feel special he then of course craves that feeling no? He finds comfort in Martha so he entertains the situation he know he’s getting into! Also his sexuality not knowing if he was nor straight he comes across as a confused man not knowing what he wants? I do feel he gave mix signals to all 3 of his characters tori martha and Damian. He claims Damian abused him so why keeping going back? Yes of course what he did was awful but he entertained it and allowed it to happen

He never claims to be innocent in the show. In fact the show is exactly about the gray areas between victim and abuser. No black and white. No good vs evil.

If you have to question why someone goes back to an abuser, I can only assume you’re either very young/inexperienced or have the privilege of never having to find out. All types of abuse are capable of changing the way you think. Abusers have a way of making you feel seen, feel special, and to someone in a vulnerable position Gadd experiences this when his whole life seems to be falling apart and he feels entirely useless to the world, broke, unloved, like a failure, until that man comes along. The amount of people preyed upon in this way who succumb to addiction initiated by someone seeking to use and abuse us is astounding and it can be hard to talk about when comments like yours assume we’re lying or that we must be enjoying the abuse somehow. Until it’s happened to you (I hope it never does) most people assume they’re not at risk of addiction, and don’t quite understand the potential for damage from accepting drugs like this even once or twice - you can become an addict to something in that short amount of time, especially those of us with a history of depression or addiction in our family. This new relationship where we’re fed drugs by someone seeking to disarm us creates a physiological and psychological need to return to your supply. Our logical mind knows it’s not smart, but in the throes of addiction, depression, vulnerability, loneliness, adult responsibility, and with the risk of tormenting, sometimes deadly, drug withdrawal, our logical mind does not have the wheel. All of us make decisions regularly that aren’t in our best interest, for example, posting this comment here knowing it would likely be painful for those of us with similar experiences to Gadd’s, but we do these things anyway. Rational minds don’t always prevail, particularly with addiction involved. I deduce from your comment that you’ve never been exposed to the particular drugs referenced in this part of the story, and again, I truly hope you never find out. The scene with Gadd waking up mid-SA is so disturbingly common and relatable to so many adults.
Finally, him not knowing his sexuality is not uncommon but even still, even if he was giving “mixed signals”, (Gadd acknowledges this in the show, he says he realized that him returning or behaving that way with those people was not a smart choice) the minute someone tells you “no” or shows even the slightest indication that he or she is uncomfortable with what is happening, back off. If you’re not a predator and don’t have foul intentions, slowing down will NOT upset you. Even if you do think someone feels the same as you, none of this is okay.
Hypothetically speaking: *even if Gadd was genuinely interested and flirting with Martha, even if he at some points let her believe they were dating or even if they had different ideas of a relationship; even if Gadd was interested in that man… under no circumstance is it EVER okay to invade someone’s privacy and space to the extent Martha did, to publicly humiliate, to stalk, to make unwanted advances, to repeatedly contact someone after you’ve been asked not to, or in the man’s case, to manipulate the power dynamic at hand by promising work that never comes, to persuade someone that you are providing a safe space for exploring and take advantage of a person who isn’t capable of giving consent, to recognize the person you’ve touched is uncomfortable/in fear and continue those advances. Even if you believe someone reciprocates how you feel, under NO circumstance is the misbehavior displayed by Martha and that man okay. Never. Not with a spouse, not with a friend, not with a colleague - absolutely NEVER is the harassment displayed in this story acceptable or healthy, no matter how “misled” you feel or if you believe “mixed signals” are at play.*
If you feel someone is sending you mixed signals, your response should NEVER be to pursue said person MORE after being asked to back off, or to double down on abusive and fear-inducing tactics. If you’re unsure of where you stand with a love interest in your life, you cannot go wrong by just backing off and slowing down. You can, however, destroy a person by attempting to persuade, harass and abuse your way into a relationship with that person. Nothing about behaving how Martha or the man did in the name of “mixed signals” should even be up for debate.

@@ncorp2668 idc about the proof , but it seems that she is very capable of doing those things. She was accused of stalking in the past. And her personality in the interview is also very similar to that of the show. According to her she only met richard 2 or 3 times, and to portray someone's personality with this accuracy by only meeting 2 or 3 times seems suspicious.
