  • I review, breakdown and explain Baby Reindeer Netflix. I discuss the TV series based on real events which impacted Richard Gadd. I react to why it was haunting, heartbreaking but also what made it the perfect TV show. I compare the show to the true story and characters such as Martha, Donny and Darien O'Connor.

    I’ve lived the nightmare happening in episode 4. It was extremely triggering to watch but absolutely worth it. His speech at the end, when he talks about his shame and blaming himself and how he shouldn’t have gone back is just so spot on. But shame dies in the light, and the more we talk and share our stories the more we heal. This show has been so important to me and has helped me forgive myself a bit. I hope that it does the same for Richard and every other survivor watching.

    Something I don’t see anyone talking about at all is that some of the camera shots in the episodes following an attack from Martha have you looking behind characters into hallways, windows, or doorways and you just kind of expect her to be there, stalking Donny. And that is super terrifying. 10/10 series.

    No one can understand unless they have been through it. It's like mental illness or any condition, everyone feels differently. As well as feeling empathy and compassion for other people, no one is perfect and I feel absolute understanding for how he feels and even some compassion for her. This is unfiltered, unvarnished imperfect humans as we really are. I applaud and appreciate the bravery of this man. The story is compelling, well written, brilliantly acted, and directed perfectly. Watch this on your own or with a friend, you will need a box of tissues. This is exceptional and you will want to binge watch it.

    I think this show is so important especially to show how common Men get abused and have a hard time speaking about it and why. Speaking up about abuse should be made common practice and not ridiculed. Like no one is really prepared for that first time and then it’s like why didn’t you do something about it? “I don’t know” is pretty much the perfect answer and that should be okay.

    Netflix will oftentimes drop something that will blew our minds and we will find ourselves invested , and before we know it, we are all soooo hooked and it’s affecting us deeply! Baby Reindeer is such a beautiful powerful and OUTSTANDING tv series with performances that can very well win in BAFTA, SAG, Golden Globes and the EMMYS. Damn, episode 4 left me speechless and come episode 6 , gosh, it wowed me.. that monologue indeed… i was weeping… I hope he will be given a best actor award come awards season for his powerful heartbreaking performance. BRAVO!
    Jessica who played Martha was just so terrifying and reminded me of how I felt when I watched Kathy Bates in Misery. Such an excellent performance as Martha!

    I felt deeply uncomfortable throughout the series, but utterly captivated. The brutal honesty of many hard-to-watch scenes exposed those parts of myself which could deeply relate. In talking through his journey it was like I was being allowed to acknowledge mine but made more special by the fact that it gave pause for me to realise how terribly neglected a man's perspective is on that side of relationships. His self reflection a reminder of the impact our experiences can have on self confidence and self belief, leading to a perpetuation of bad decisions.
    I love-hated it! What a ride of emotions and frustration and regret, but no regret that I saw this masterpiece. I had to rinse my mind out with mindless entertainment afterwards to escape the despair it left me in. Highly recommend! 😂

It touched the part of my heart which i had buried for so long. I didn't know who Gadd was... Watched the whole thing then googled him and was STUNNED to find out he was playing "himself"... Really really touching and impressive. It's a shame people went searching for the real Martha and allegedly found her, but if that lady is really her, Gadd didn't do enough to protect her identity.. He should have changed more details if he truly did not want to hurt her or for people to find her

    • @DanieB322

      Lmao that is one hell of an accusation. The producers as well as himself already said they did everything to hide her true identity. The internet is wild these days so of course it’s possible for them to find her. It’s not on him or his team. They never mentioned her twice and they tried to put a galaxy between the real person and the character on the show for people not to recognise her. Who do you think you are judging like that and putting it all on him ? He didn’t even have to hide her, but he did cause the man’s a saint.

      I can’t say they did what they could as I wasn’t there, but I do think people would have found her either way. I definitely wouldn’t blame him completely since he’s managed to do the show just fine as a play for years without anyone pointing her out before.

    I haven’t heard of this show until 4_minutes ago…
    But as I was watching this, there occurred to me a delightfully evil scheme to gaslight some performer that you don’t like ! & you’re willing to spend a few thousand dollars destroying them !
    You use some talent agency network to find a series of amateur actors that look “about” The same as one another. You use each of them only once, & tell them as little of their job as possible, so that if any one or more of them is ‘picked up’ they will reveal very little about your scheme.
    The plot is; to dress up each actor in The same very distinctive ( yet ‘ordinary looking’ ) costume & send them to just one of your target performer’s performances, & to be Very Enthusiastic as an audience member !
    The perform will eventually believe that they’re being stalked by The same person, & they’re following them around The country, but every attempt to stop or dissuade them, has no effect on The plot !
    How would it end ?

    The show had great moments, but overall it ended disappointingly because of a lack of clear execution on its themes. I think it tries so hard to go in so many directions that it ultimately seems pointless at the end. Especially when he goes back to his groomer and continues his relationship with him. Weak ending.

    • @dabordietrying
      @dabordietrying หลายเดือนก่อน

      not a weak ending at all if you've ever been through something like this yourself. you would know just how hard it is, and how the cycle of abuse works.

    • @sssf55
      @sssf55 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dabordietryingDon't get me wrong, I think this is an accurate portrayal of the cycle of abuse. However, the show shouldn't end like this because it's a weak ending. It's basically seeing our main character succumb to his abuser even after everything he has gone through. All the growth that Donny has made up till this point just for him to bring himself back to 0 is just a weak way to end the story.

    • @dabordietrying
      @dabordietrying หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sssf55 okay but what if that's how it actually happened? should he have just lied so that the show had a good ending?

    • @sssf55
      @sssf55 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dabordietrying He should tell the story as is, but not end it on that note. If the story truly had the dark ending that it did, then perhaps it should go on a few extra minutes showing Donny go to therapy or try to fix his situation. He doesn't need to succeed but it should show that he's trying to move in a productive/positive direction. This ending signifies the triumph of the abuser with no consequences for his actions.

    My only real critique of the show is Richard should not have played itself. He didn’t look like a person in his late 20s so yes, the age gap was somewhat visible, but they should’ve gotten a person in their 20s to play his self.
