- "I can see her lying back in her cocktail dress at a bar where you do what you don't confess…” Ok so we’re not talking about that “Sundown” BUT we are talking about the Sundowner Cocktail today! There is no definitive recipe for a Sundowner cocktail. Actually, a sundowner is a ritual - a drinking tradition that originated in the 1800s, in South Africa during British colonial rule, which marks the transition from day to evening. This Sundowner we are making today is one that won an international cocktail contest and is the more popular version of what is considered a Sundowner Cocktail. Back in the 70s it was once an extremely popular drink. Not is much today. SO let’s make one and maybe we can bring it back so that it doesn’t get completely forgotten… Cheers!
Oh and it should go without saying. PLEASE DO NOT STARE DIRECTLY INTO THE SUN!

This brings back memories, as I spent some time in Africa several years ago. Many enjoyable evenings sipping sundowners while watching hippo’s soak in the river below our outdoor bar, and small monkeys swinging from tree to tree at the edge of the property.
That sounds awesome!
@@BarTalkCocktails it truly was awesome. I like to make drinks at home, that I have enjoyed while traveling- it takes me back to that location and allows me to re-live those fun memories. Thank you for sharing your videos, they are enjoyable 😊

Excited to try a new Cognac cocktail! By the way, I'm planning a vacation to Toronto in July. And recommendations on some good spots to check out??
I’m actually never ever out that way. I live an hour and a half away from Toronto. I don’t know what’s hip anymore lol 😂
@@BarTalkCocktails Bummer! Well, I'll have one for you anyway. Cheers, Bruce! Keep up the good work!
Too lemony? Add simple!
Bruce! This one looks and sounds good; but, alas, no Galliano. My research indicates folks like to sub Sambuca or Herbsaint for the anise notes, and others suggest Licor 43, which leans more to the vanilla. I have all of these. May I ask, since you've made this thing, and even if my version then might not be 100% "proper," what do you think? Perhaps, more vanilla will help tone down slightly the lemonosity? Oh, and great OF glass by the way. I think I'd prepare it up, though. Cheers! a
Licor 43 would be a good choice for substituting the Galliano. Perhaps a little too vanilla driven, but would certainly work in the Sundowner. Actually, you'll have to make a few versions using all of your available substitutes and find out which one suits your palate best. That glass came from a second-hand store. I bought it for $2.00. You never know what you'll find at second-hand stores. Cheers!
@@BarTalkCocktails Thanks for the response. I also haunt thrift, etc. shops for my cocktail glasses. I found some great ones that way! Cheers!
I thought this might have something to do with sundowners syndrome 😮
whoa whoa whoa you HATE turtles!?!! been a fan of your vids for years and love watching but you cant just hit us with that and then not tell the story of what happened between you and a turtle!!!
The Lyrics are Satin Dress and it is in REALLY BAD TASTE to misqoute Gordon Lightfoot SO SOON AFTER HIS PASSING RIP MR. LIGHTFOOT
